Thankyou, Thankyou, And Thankyou , I’m so glad to have come across these, I’m 50 and loving it as it brings back so many memories…….
The unbroadcast ad break bits are facinating. The broadcast bits seem so relaxed and free-flowing that it's nice to see the true chaos of broadcasting live.
Oh how wonderful! Strange thing I have No memory of it other than this is where I found Sandi Toksvig and loved her ever since. There's not much of anything going on, and some adult references like Mrs Dales Diary and no sax in the living room yet I adored this as a kid. Loved seeing the behind the scenes of the ad breaks. This is really wonderful to see again ❤
I watched this in my twenties I loved children's Saturday shows.😀
The majority of the audience on Saturday morning were young adults. It's one reason that the guest lists on these shows often put primetime shows to shame.
I kinda felt it was weird for me (I’m 25) to watch and like this show. Glad to know I’m not the only one. I’ve found this tv series while watching vintage tv shows intro and I love it!
I love all the intermissions, (advert breaks) it’s like watching bits that we would never got to see 😍
This brings back some memories - I was in the Sidney section playing the game. Haven't seen this since it was screened.
My mother had a couple of friends who worked for TVS, and they gave us a tour (I was only 4 or 5), and we got a no73 badge each!
We lived in Maidstone, so I watch TVS things from the 80s. I loved C.A.T.S. Eyes with the wonderful late Jill Gascoigne.
Thanks for all the uploads- I've subscribed!
I first saw it episode one, yes it was decent im50 now thanks for this.
I've dreamt about this for years and now it's finally happening! Entire episodes available to watch. Thank you so much MiM. Before this channel started, only two full episodes were online. Interesting to see that John Hamon had already perfected the 73 logo even though it wasn't yet on the door.
Me too, dreamt about seeing this again!
Until her dying day, my Auntie Sheila insisted Sandi Toksvig’s real name was Ethel Davis.
Omg 😅😂.
Lol! As a kid I thought that was her real name too.....first time I saw Sandi on another show I was perturbed and confused when somebody introduced her by her real name!!
As an American, I've never heard of this show before but I love it! Thanks for posting! Even better than Captain Kangaroo, which is what I was probably watching in the eighties. I think Sandi is very good in this. ❤
Love Sandi’s story on Paul o’ Grady’s show about her sending a photo booth pic in to apply for the role rather than a glossy 10 x 8 and that’s apparently how she landed it cos she said it made them all laugh so much! 😂
Absolutely loved this - thank you so much for uploading. I was always a big fan of Saturday morning shows, and No 73 (and its even rarer reboot 7T3) is one of the earliest I remember. Please do keep up the great work!
I remember not playing outside and this was on TV there was no Superstore on the beeb - i couldn't get into it fully - nice nostalgia trip
Seems a bit shocking when iggy was on😅 but even more they can talk about mental health in an open way, but times were different then.
Paul young on the cusp of super stardom there
No. 73 wasn't the same after Sandi left at the end of series 6. I never watched series 7&8 because Sandi wasn't in it. It went right down hill
It was decent but took a few episodes to get better.
Wow - where it all began. I never saw this as I lived in the Thames/LWT region at the time, so it was a couple of years before I saw Number 73 for the first time. I think they tried a bit too hard here to make Ethel "old" and it didn't work! Clearly the show took a while to get into its stride.
When the show became networked they dropped the whole "Ethel is old" thing.
@@antster1983 That seemed to have largely disappeared by the time the second series came along. It was clearly a lot easier for Sandi to be rather more herself.
Obviously there’s Wikipedia but a Number 73 reunion would be fab, either as an event or a Zoom interview. Obviously we know about Sandi, Neil and Andrea’s success, it would be interesting to hear what’s become of the other cast members. Is Jeannie still with us? I saw Nick posted on one of the previously uploaded vids about what he was doing now. It would be nice to see the likes of Nadia and Jules again too.
Jeannie and Richard are still with us, and still acting.
@@antster1983 Good to hear, they were lots of fun as Hazel & Martin. Sunnytoes holiday camp lol.
This was one of the Saturday morning shows from ITV that replaces Tiswas from Central Television while that was still going in most regions at the time for its last legs.
Some viewers who got TVS who were still fans of Tiswas when this was on just right after Southern (its predecessor) closes down just weren't ready for the move quite yet...
Loved this show uploaded more
Sandi was only mentioned as "Ethel Davis" in the end credits, her real name wasn't even displayed.....I thought this wasn't allowed in the world of telly....!!
I used to love this as a nipper
If this was going out live and seemingly largely improvised that was a lot of pressure on Sandi as Ethel to keep it all flowing, some of her cringey gags fell flat. Very innovative series but I never quite got why some of them played characters while others appeared as themselves.
Well this is the very first edition of a TV show in a format that had never been tried on television before. And at this point TVS had only been on air for a day, the level of ambition shown by them to make this their first big production was off the scale really. Although later characters appeared as "themselves" it was still a televised extension of their personality and it probably made it easier to go by their real names as it reduced the instances where other cast members or guests might slip up during transmission.
@@pipoo1 I remember Harry got called Nick a few times in one edition, Nick even said something like what’s all this Nick business, it’s Harry alright lol. Also remember Neil saying on another programme, think it was First Post with Sue Robbie, which was like a kids Points of view, that as the series progressed there was some debate as to whether they should reveal that morning’s line up at the top of the show. The comments on the edition featuring Ethel’s wedding about Neil opening the show with a hangover and saying about the stag do made me lol, plus another where he said the gang didn’t get to bed til 4.30am, but they did empty enough bottles for the Brighton Bottle Orchestra lol. I guess it was the same as when the soaps do live eps now, everything timed to perfection, jumping in with something quick if anyone dried up etc. Interesting to see what went on during the ad breaks too. Loving all these 😊
Im 100 percent certain that this house was Frank Spencers house!! Hahahaha!
Great nostalgia trip!
I'm getting a strong whiff of Mrs. Brown's Boys from this!
I was super young when this was aired (about 4) but me and my sister sent a letter in and got the 7T3 badge
- it’s funny, but I don’t remember Sandy Toksvig ever being in this.
which episode has Strawberry Switchblade as guests?
I watched this when I was a kid I realised how bad it was now😂
Do you have the episode of number 73 when a band called drum theatre appeared on it ?
It has been posted but I can't remember which episode it is.
Did I dream it, or was there also an even earlier pilot that didn't even look as polished as this? I'm sure I saw one once on YT and it had more outdoor bits.
Dillion from casually 😅😅
You wouldn't get away with making a joke of schizofrenia these days but oh my hilarious. My TV LWT region didn't get No73 until the summer of 1985 if my memory serves me right?
*schizophrenia
Would’ve been summer 1983 (start of the 3rd series) as the show was fully networked across ITV from that point. It then gradually shifted from the summer to winter schedule by 1985, going directly head to head with Saturday SuperStore on BBC1. This paved the way for Get Fresh in summer 1986 and the classic ITV Saturday morning era, with TVS producing the winter show, and the regions sharing the summers, with The Chart Show each week at 11:30.
So Children's TV in the 80s consisted of a live stream from a mental institution?
In No73s case, yes.
Sandi didn't really make a convincing young person.
She was 23 at the time but had the hairstyle of someone twice that age.
I always assumed she was playing older. She was the homeowner and the mother figure.
She wasn't. She was playing someone much older than herself 😊
