I was a child back then, I remember my dad was always working, Lord be good to him, it's only now I realise the sacrifice he made just to keep us clothed warm and fed
That's the ireland I grew up in..when we had nothing but ourselves...and we were a proud and happy people..we must never forget our history and culture..
Where people had respect for each other. I'm 51 now and when we where in our teens and have a smoke down a lane and a guard was coming we would run . Not today no respect
@cushyglen4264 no your wrong there if we don't so respect we won't get it in return. All of the should have body cams as part of there uniform
Culture like football. 😂😂😂

Part of "The Barrytown Trilogy.". Good stuff and well done.
Irish films are a unique artform unto themselves, gutteral and funny at the same time, Thank you.
It's Miles O'Brian taking a break from the transporter room. Fair play to him
Great Irish trilogy of books & 2 cult/great movies from the early 90s (Never saw The Snapper). The actual "van" made a cameo in "The Commitments" as the Chip van the band takes on their 1st road gig. Wish they didn't have to cut sound or length to get around YT's algorithm.
Being Irish born and growing up in England, i easily recognized the the humor in this movie. Ireland belongs to the Irish, i know that first hand having longed for Ireland as a child. Éirinn go Brách 🇮🇪
Shut up
17 year old here! Fuckin' great film!
The town I loved so well…
Colm Meany a favorite actor.

The woman who played AnnMarie in this used to come and play music when I was an inmate in DCMH. We would have a sing song session every morning at 10am called calypso where musicians, some of them famous actors/actresses would come and sing and play music to us. She looks very young in this. She has red hair now and is still fairly good looking. She plays in the Veronica Guerin film with Kate Blanchett.
When dublin was our DUBLIN.
Easter egg, back of the van, mind that SNAPPR😅

To all the people saying this is not an English film, it’s Irish. We know! This channel states in the title, all the films are in the language of English! Whether the film is American, Irish, English or Australian. Get over yourselves, and look at all the films on this channel with the same title.
It's British made , with funding from board of Ireland.
garbage@@ÆCME
It doesnt. It states its an english movie. Not an english language movie. Should correct and reupload it.
I remember that period in irish history, no jobs so i left for the UK, often wish i hadn't done it.
Well go back there then!
UK feels the same! Bugger off back then!

Normal Ireland’s dead and gone,
It’s with O’Leary in the grave.
Amazing theme music from Clapton
It's one of them films that you dont want to finish
I always think about what did Bimbo's wife think about the end, I doubt that hugs were involved
Filmed in Kilbarrack as was The Snapper. Such great memories.
My god does anyone even get a wage packet anymore? I miss that.
Im working the sites in Canada atm and I get paid with a cheque every fortnite. I would have thought that was a total thing of the past.

Where is the beginning?
Where is the end?
A simpler time
I *always* crave self-cooked fish and chips when I read this book and watch this movie. I want to make sausages in batter and batter burgers (cooked). Props to Roddy Doyle for the recipe for batter.
Chief O`Brien : Ahh, me bollix. 😄
I read this book it was alright
Are ya alright Sharon?
1.002 mins look, whats on the folded paper lol
Good movie but I don't like the Jack Russell scene.
The movie could do without that! Nothing funny about it.
It was a bleeding accident
Agree. Not necessary, and the girl laughing is psychopathic. Weird.

DDR Dingle-Berries did it again!
This time SOUND was CHOPPED-OUT & END-CREDITS were CUT-OUT.
DDR's not interested in fixing what is a Gr8t movie (look how long it's been here & it's still not repaired).
'The Van' (1996) Version
Fantastic theme and good acting (personally I'd have disowned Bimbo for the rest of my life... with a numb-nuts no-thinking idiot like that who needs enemies).
I'm not here because it's an Irish or UK film, I'm here for the story it tells.
I'm here also for Colm Meaney (Snapper, Green Lobsters, A Belfast Story, The Yank, Hot Potato etc. etc) a very talented actor, ♡ the dude! ;-)

Bad start for this channel , by saying ‘English Movie ‘ . Talk about it doing your homework?
The movie is in English
English speaking
they stumble upon a series of cryptic clues hidden within the van. As they unravel the mystery behind these enigmatic signs, they find themselves entangled in a web of secrets that lead to a startling revelation. Where was all that? What a boring movie - nothing funny, total waste of time.
No curry chips? Why Not? - Because we're not chinese XD XD XD
Not English, 💚🤍🧡 humour ❤
A forgotten Gem of a movie ! Love it, thanks for posting !
Forgotten byy who?

Fun, fun, fun. A very funny film about friendship. Highly recommended.
Reminds me of simpler times in Dublin . when we had nothing and survived . no fones ,no internet, just got by day to day....!
whats a Fone ?

We had many problems then also but we still got by with support from each other and community. We didn't need anything but each other.. Now today we don't have nothing we have a million more problems and Tra8ors deserve the lot

Grew up in kilbarrack in the 70s..round the corner from the train station !!! Good memories !!
I LOVED reading this book shortly after it was published. Now I shall see if the movie interprets Doyle's fiction with the same empathetic humor as the novel.
I'd forgotten Mrs Brown appears in this film...
The irish on here kicking off thst its irish, Bless you all 😂 English Speaking ffs
Lad the English don't like you either and I wouldn't blame them.
So American movies are English too? Get over yourself man.
Watched this when it came out,And The Snapper. Absolutely fantastic, Real life
They mean English as in the language thats spoken in the movie so that other nationalities that speak other languages, i.e. French people who speak French, Spanish people who speak Spanish and so on and so forth can switch on the subtitles so they too can enjoy the absolute splender of Irish humour at its Finest, Delivered to us ALL by the Sublime, Genius and Talent of. Colm Meaney and not that Aul Chestnut youre stuck on. We'll never forget But also Don't forget to move on with your Bright Life.🇮🇪😏♥️💯 Oh and a Happy Christmas to You and Yours 🇮🇪❤️🇮🇪💯❤️
Good film but theres no sound at 1:02:00 for a couple of minutes.
To avoid being taken down...
After reading the title, I just came to the comments to count my irate Paddy Pals screaming in anger:
"IRISH. It's an IRISH movie, ya daaaaaaft EEEEjit!"
I’m not one to go telling tales to the social security people, but that fellow with the curly hair is definitely working. I know he works as chief engineer on a Federation Star Ship …. now claiming unemployment benefits in Ireland. Cheeky sod !

I'm Dutch so I don't follow every word, but this is a fantastic movie! Love it.
Roddy Doyle's Barrytown Trilogy is a collection of books I will never get bored of... Most people know The Commitments, but The Van and The Snapper get overlooked!
know wat u mean, read the trilogy too, great book....though this seem a bit different from book...will see to the end
The snapper is amazing
Sadly not a patch on The Snapper or the Commitments.
It was the last time Stephen frears made a film in Ireland and it was the last time roddy doyle made a film with him.
And this movie marks the only time brendan o carroll plays a villain. He is very good in this movie
Very dark performance
I don't agree! Brilliant movie
It was decent enough.
I miss the real fresh cod and chips from the Italian chipper down the road from my house , salt and vinegar wrapped in paper .Have not been back in ages
That was one hell of an away mission.
The funniest movie ever I never stop laughing at this after the guy comes back screaming about a nappy covered in batter 😅😅😅😅
It's an Irish movie...my missus grew up where it was filmed

Cracks me up that any time I watch this movie, it will have me watched "Con Air". Amazing acting. Love this movie. Eventho never been to Ireland, love you guys, love your passion and love all you have given to this world 🍀❤️
When i get to Ireland on vacations i will adopt the name Jerry McCarthy..so i blend in quickly..😂
Well, beat you to it. I went to Ireland about 2 months ago, adopted the name and everytime when asked about my name and I said, "Jerry McCarthy," they would look at me weird and then burst out laughing. You see, I'm Yemeni, arab. It worked to break the ice. Made a ton of friends cause the first guys would take me to one place to another to meet their friends and family just for the laugh, "go on then, tell em your name," and I'd say "Jerry McCathy" and they all burst out laughing. Had an awesome time. Irish, they know how to have fun and they so love their music and drinks but they'd crack up laughing again when asked, "so what you want to drink," and I'd respond "tea mate, tea." I don't drink alcohol. It was the highlight of their day and mine too. Good memories.
Not anymore try Mohamad

This is so much more funny than Mr Brown's boys!
Love this movie.
