Adapt and Survive - Victor Martinez prepares for the 2011 Mr. Olympia

  • As we all know, we have good days...and we have bad days. My first chance to tape Victor Martinez with his long time friend and trainer Victor Munoz was not a good day for Martinez.
    Two weeks from the biggest competition in bodybuilding I found Victor looking great, but suffering from the relentless training schedule and struggling through his workout.
    How does a world class athlete and his trainer cope with an "off" day when there is no choice but to soldier onward? In this short video Victor Munoz and Victor Martinez demonstrate how to adapt and survive when the Olympia is at stake!

    I agree gatomjp, and as far as humble football king goes, if you have ever been in the presence of a competitive body builder then you will understand the hard work people talk about. to get to the shape victor is at in the video the intensity of his training would break someone who is not using steriods. they really do train harder then anyone i have ever seen. accept the fact that its in the sport, get over it and admire them for their dedication and training prowess.

    SIMPLY AWESOME !! I ALWAYS LOVED VICTOR FOR HIS PHYSIQUE . HERE , SEEING HIM , LIKE THIS , DISAPPOINTED , AND STILL LOOKING AMAZING DURING TRAINING...YOU KNOW , THEY SAY THAT EVERY SPORT IS ALRIGHT WHEN IT'S BEEN DONE WITH/OUT OF LOVE ; BUT WHEN IT BECOMES AN OBSESSION (STEROIDS), THEN QUESTIONS MUST BE RISEN : WHY GO TO SUCH LENGTHS ? TO SUCH EXTREMES ?....THAT'S WHY !! NO MATTER WHAT ANYBODY SAYS , THEY (PROFESSIONAL BODYBUILDERS) LOOK AMAZING . I AM ALSO A NINE YEAR OBSESSED BODYBUILDER :):)

    @DanLetts97 they are doing partial reps - great way to kill the muscle - it works on the 80/20 rule that 80% of the muscle is worked out from 20% of the movement, full ROM is a good way to learn in the beginning but you can adapt your training style as you get more adept

    Thanks, I think this might work in fact. I already tend to be faster on positives and slower with negatives, but maybe not consequently enough. Another thing... I take 2-3 minutes out between each set. Maybe that's too long as well, dunno...

  • @CoachCala
    @CoachCala 12 років тому

    When i said "Coach" im referring, also, to a guy working on your concentration and motivation...
    When im training i think i put some good effort in to it...but..unconsciusly..and specially when im tired...is normal to "Steal" a couple of seconds between sets.."steal" 1 or 2 reps..or make it a little slower...in those cases i think is useful to have a guy screamig at you and ask you for concentration.
    Just my opinion...

    Just by taking juice doesn't mean you could look like this. Hard training, the right diet, enough rest/sleep (i.e. not out partying/drinking in the weekends and having a good time), sacrifice and most of all great genetics contribute to a great physique. If it was so easy, every second person would have a physique like this.

    Usually, having 'a bad day' is your body's way of telling you that you need some recuperation time. Things not aligned don't get any better by 'soldiering on'. Will power might be good for other athletic performances, but muscle grows when it is resting...

    @ForcedAbTrainer I'm well aware that being in a calorie deficit on top of training will lead to catabolism. You know why? Because I have competed before. But the options when preparing for a show are limited, despite what you may think. And plus these pros take a lot of drugs that suppress cortisol, so their catabolic phases are very short and it leads to very little muscle wasting, so they can get away with extreme cardio, dieting, and training. And they are no longer trying to grow muscle
