- This is a quick little showcase of my new dropship.

i tested this ship in multiplayer in one of our creative RP scenarios and it was awesome. we were using the jumpdrive critcal explosion for more explosions and we were having a war between 2 factions (the third one to be exact). and we were flying above an enemy outpost to scout them when they launched a salvo of missiles at us (fun fact, i build the missiles, and obviously one of my friends gave it to them...). so i shouted "all hands to the assault pods NOW", and we all rushed out to the launching bay (exept the pilot who still thought he could outrun the missiles), we started launching down as one of the missiles hit the jumdrive, causing the ship to disintegrate. we fell directly on top of the enemy base, between all the flaming debris. out of all the cargo pods only 2 toutched down safely, the others crashed full speed for unkown reasons, and we managed to capture the base by killing all defence forces, and destroying the comm relay. and afterwards, that same pilot we thought dead in the explosion landed the front of the ship on the control tower, barely having enough trust to lift it. droping ODST style into battle was something i always wanted to realise in SC. and with your ship i did it with a background of nuclear explosions. and it was AWESOME.
what i woud like to see with this tech is an "ODST drop pod module" from you. something like the vertical launch missile module you did a while back, that allow us to add a drop bay to less specialized ships.

How do you collect them once used in a scout mission or exploring a planet. Do they fly bakc to the drop ship or you do you build another ship/rover?

now i don't play space engineers but this is a pretty good concept perhaps for storming a base on a planet or maybe a stealth sabotage mission to destroy some vital systems before striking to get an advantage

I'd really like to see this with a manned rapid deployment demonstration, from flying in from orbit to the pods coming down to the ground. I'd also be impressed if the pods were completely interchangeable for where they're docked, and if you could create a turret pod that drops inverted and rotates over on the way down to possibly provide a bit of cover for the landing party.
Either way though, this is awesome to see.

The point of ODST drop pods is fast insertion. Parachutes would slow them down and it’d make the pods more vulnerable.

ok thanks it just looked like a normal small block that had a trigger on it. and i thought you couldn't get button panels for small Ships
Could you potentially retrofit the pods to become bombs using warheads?
Yes. I have a similar design of sticky bomb, by the way. It's quite low-yield, but if you fit the nuke mod and replace warheads, such compact kaboom can be helpful with demolition instead of just breaching hangars.

I could see this being used in the scenario. instead of the ship landing to let you off, you get dropped in a pod with a couple cargo containers nearby
you should add in a button to auto drop the cargo pods, so in an emergency situation you don't have to risk wasting that time pressing multiple buttons

My Favorit Dropship period to use for ingame events it can take a beating if you can avoid the cockpit blowout i one time turned this into a bomber and it fucking leveled the entire enemy bunker we made

Hello im using this on xbox i press the button for the drop pods (cargo) while the doors are open and it wont go, and when i enter the drop pod and pred up on d pad it wont drop me any tips?
How do you build one of these? I've got a war going on IN SE and I need a quick response force.
As in from a blueprint in survival? It is a bit difficult because of all the subgrids. You'd need to blueprint each subgrid and manually build them in place.
If you meant the drop pods themselves, the script page covers all the requirements it needs to create a drop pod :)

Hmm, I appreciate the reply. I typically look at concept art and have a bad habbit of starting with the shell and then the thrusters and the outside. But then my innards look like shit. I made a ship called "Atlas" that was actually really similar to the Hunchback (love this ship by the way). But it's biggest downfall was my shit interior design and my landing gear being stored away under armour by pistons (The tilting glitch)

Hey finally got around to logging in here on youtube to drop a comment- Yeh iI am the same Dunewolf from Steam heh.
I just spent a good portion of the day testing a minigun and missile pod design (along with some other designs based on your drop pod script)
The platform build worked, however ship I built to test it failed miserably lol - the platform landed fine - just the test ship I built wasnt designed well for atmospheric testing.. but thats why it was a test. I also redid a different ship to test the gun pods - that worked fine enough that I made a video of the minigun drop pod testing. its uploaded on my channel.
I am currently working on a large ship build - that will fit the hanger I built that holds 10 minigun pods, and 8 missile pods in its bay area.. once I can figure out a decent ship build around that - Ill make another video of all 18 pods dropping out.
though that build will take awhile - lots of testing - rebuilding/redesigning /etc.. however the hanger section is mostly done (needs some buttons/lights - then cleaning up the bits/bobs to make it look nice)
I have 2 people wanting me to rebuild a couple of their ships, with the missile and minigun pods - as well as possible 4 man platform version.

I have a rescue unit if huncback is heavily damaged .....
Flying Nuclear Warhead to the rescue ! ( Blow the huncback with big hell explosion ) .
Able to fly on atmosfere , space .
Able to land on land ( Suicide only ).
BOMB HUNCBACK ! ( FNW is only created 2 )
If I make more then 2 it will be trouble to controlled .

Thanks! MATLAB and C# are the primary languages that I code in, but I can understand Java and most C languages. Also, like 5 years ago, I did some Lua coding for Gmod :)

In space engineers, there is a programmable block that allows you to write scripts in game. The scripting is done in C# and it allows you to do almost anything you can do as a player with a program :)

How did you do that?
Like.. what does the code search for? And how does it like.. know how much thrust to give, etc?! Damn!
It calculates the total mass of the ship and the total thrust that the ship can use to brake, then we use physics!
F = ma solved for a -> a = F/m
Vf^2 = Vi^2 + 2ad -> solve for d and plug in initial and final conditions -> V^2/(2a) = d = distance needed to brake
Yes, it is cool and all..... but where is the remote control block? (hijacking one)
Already taken care of all core systems, and the 4 programmable blocks..
(Sigh) Nevermind.... just found the stupid thing. Of course, if you can't find the thing, and you know its in the forward part of the ship, just bisect it (use this method on Nomad class vessels because I cannot find the remote yet).
btw as of 9/1/2021, if you capture this ship on a dedicated server you will get constant rubberbanding until the grid is removed. edit: er at least on the server we use. (3950x, 48 gigs of ram)
That NPC mod that includes this ship includes a pretty heavily modified version. I didn't make it, so I can't speak for it's stability.

build new pods, projectors are a good improvement for that

I have had this ship spawn with the random encounters mod, I shot it down with a cruise missile. I didn't know why it had drop pods.
Did you change the battery in your fire alarm yet? If so, it probably needs doing again 😂

Enable Scripts in Advanced options, I had the same issue.
This with the upcoming bomb sight script ;)

This relies on scripts. Xbox only has scripts enabled on dedicated servers

When I had the time to make something like this, the game didn't exist. Now I'm married with kids......life is cruel.
Me and a friend made something like these except they're made to slam into the ground without being completely destroyed at 100mps
We also wanted them to be completely unsafe so we used hydrogen so it could could explode or run out of fuel at anytime. Anything that is underneath them is also obliterated.
