    Just got a 2023 premium AWD ER Mach E last week. Drives great so far. Haven't taken it on any longer trips outside of town but always good to see the charging worked without any trouble

    You always want to use %. I calculated in my Car (Tesla Model 3 LR) how many miles I can drive for each % point conservatively. I have one number I use on roadtrips and one number I use in town. It works perfect and you won’t have any issues. My rule of thumb is… Range at 100% minus 100 miles and you’ll get a safe number with about 20-30 miles reserves. That will take into account Hills, Wind, Weight etc.

      Ok thanks for the info. Surprised Tesla can’t get range correct either.

      @@CarGuy11 , Tesla is notorious for over estimating range. You usually only get about 75% of your total range. The Audi and Porsche EV’s are much more accurate and sometimes even in the opposite direction!

      Right but I meant on the GOM on dash.

      I use 2 miles for every 1%, so I assume the maximum highway range is just 200 miles at 100% . It never fails me.

    The guessometer is not your range, even though it says range. It is a guess based on your previous driving history in the weather conditions You drove in at that time. It will not predict your range on your next drive unless it is exactly the same as the previous one. Resetting your previous driving history just set it back to the estimated range on EPA testing. To predict range use the battery percentage and the miles per kilowatt hour you were getting on your current trip just like you do on a gas car. Also, most people with gas cars don’t pay any attention to their estimated mileage gauge.

      Yeah that’s what I ended up doing but still should be more accurate on a 300 mile trip where the efficiency stayed basically the same.

    Range prediction is based on prior driving. Our Mach E has been consistent because we do the same type of driving all the time.

    • @CarGuy11
      @CarGuy11  Рік тому

      Yeah but I drove 300 miles with consistent efficiency and was still off.

    • @loriallen67
      @loriallen67 Рік тому

      @@CarGuy11 because it’s based on prior driving. You haven’t been doing 300 mile trips. Ours is consistent because our routes don’t change much in daily driving. If we took off on a road trip, it wouldn’t predict the range as accurately as it does for in town driving because we don’t road trip.

      You also reset it then carried on doing 75mph so it will be off, if you keep it on and not reset it it will become more accurate

    Great video Marco. I'd just like to point out that my gas cars miles to empty is also wildly inaccurate over the course of a trip. I feel like these estimates are simply never correct.

    • @CarGuy11
      @CarGuy11  Рік тому

      Thanks but I feel the calculation is even easier in an EV as basically my efficiency stayed at 2.8 mi/kWh the whole trip. Why couldn’t it do the calculation based on that like how I calculated it manually?

    Still not sold on ev, my hybrid I never have to worry about and a fill up gives me 600+ miles range

      Yes I learned that on this trip but figured it was worth a shot since it wasn’t accurate before either.

      @@CarGuy11 as others have said it is based on past driving history so unless you drive 300 freeway miles every day a trip like this won’t be accurate. Best thing is to do the math like you did.
      Also I know you were nervous about public charging but you wasted a TON of time charging up to 95%. You arrived with 28% left. The fastest way to road trip an EV is to only charge as much as you need to get to the next stop. More stops with faster charging is a lot quicker than deep charging at slow speeds.
