  • Hey Mach E Fans, Tom from The Universe Here!
    This video is a long-term review of my daily driver, a Ford Mustang Mach-E Select with 25,000 miles on it after a year and a half. It's my first electric vehicle (EV), and let me tell you, it's been a game-changer.
    The Good Stuff:
    Smooth, silent ride: This car feels like a dream, a perfect escape from the daily hustle.
    Powerful acceleration: Forget the V8 rumble - electric cars have silent pull, kind of like an airplane taking off!
    One-pedal driving: This feature uses regenerative braking to slow down the car - super cool and feels futuristic.
    Winter champ: The Mach-E handled snowy, icy roads like a champ!
    Spacious cargo area: Groceries, road trip gear, you name it - this car can handle it.
    Low maintenance: Say goodbye to constant brake pad replacements!
    Not-So-Perfect Stuff:
    Tight for 5 passengers: The back seat is a bit snug, especially for adults.
    Cold weather zaps range: Up to 40% range loss without pre-conditioning the car.
    Road trips: Smaller battery and limited range might not be ideal for everyone.
    Upside down financially: The purchase price stings a bit right now.
    The Verdict?
    This electric stallion is perfect for daily drivers who value comfort and quiet rides. However, if you need lots of passenger space or conquer road trips frequently, you might want to keep looking.
    Ultimately, the Mach-E Select is a great choice for those who want to experience electric car life and enjoy cruising around town. Just be sure to factor in the range limitations and charging times for longer ventures.
    Bonus Stuff:
    This video covers some common concerns about EVs, like car washes and winter performance.
    I also talk about some maintenance experiences and cool features like BlueCruise.
    Let me know in the comments below if you have any questions!

    Absolutely agree with your review. I had a ‘22 Premium that my wife totalled at Christmas. Ended up replacing it with a ‘23 GT for less than I paid for the ‘22 thanks to the price cuts.
    It’s a great car, fun to drive, and with good winter tires, it is absolutely awesome in the snow. (And I’m talking full-on Canadian winter!)
    The thing I would say about the Mach-E is that it’s a bit of a jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none. It does everything well, but isn’t necessarily exceptional at anything. There are other EVs that are more efficient, or have better software, or better range, or faster charging, or better handling, etc. Depending on your priorities, that might appeal to you more. But if you want a solid, well built car that is fun to drive and ALSO happens to be an EV? The Mach-E is a great choice.
    They’re also continuing to improve it. The 2023.5 and 2024 models have a more efficient cooling system. ‘24s will get new motors, faster charging and slightly better range.

      It's unfortunate about your '22 Premium, but it's great to hear you found a replacement with the '23 GT, especially with the price cuts. And kudos for braving Canadian winters with it - sounds like it handles the snow like a champ! Your perspective on the Mach-E as a versatile but not necessarily exceptional EV is interesting. It's true; there are always trade-offs, but the Mach-E shines as a solid, fun-to-drive choice. Exciting to hear about the ongoing improvements too!

    Great review, I would echo your review. I have a 2022 Premium Standard range rear wheel Mach-E and just hit 50K. Came from an F150 and the gas saving is amazing! Love driving it a lot of fun and really don't miss driving my F150 anywhere as much as I thought I would. Here in FL I don't have to worry about the winter which helps but I do road trip it about once a month about 350-500 miles and thankfully mostly positive public charging experiences. I do wish it charged a little quicker, 10-80% in 20-25mins would be nice. Thanks for the Video!

    Nice overview. I have a 2021 First Edition and its probably my favorite car I've ever owned. After 3 years of ownership my only complaint is that you cant see artist and title of whats playing on the radio (radio or SiriusXM) if youre not actively on the radio screen...no option to have it show anywhere else on the main screen or the smaller gauge cluster. And since i always drive with Google Maps up via Android Auto, every time a song comes on and I want to know who sings it I have to switch the entire screen to the radio function, wait 3 seconds for that to load just to see the artist, then tap back into Android Auto. Very annoying as this happens multiple times/day, but definitely a first world problem. I just wish they didnt make those info/shortcut tiles at the bottom of the screen so small that they cant accommodate both artist and title 🤷‍♂️. Otherwise its got every feature and functionality that I want in an EV, to the point that I've had several opportunities to get a competing EV and declined because they were missing at least one or more feature the Mach-E has.

      Great point on the UI for Sync/car play features. The video doesn't really on that whole system is just "meh". It works, and does what it needs to do, but it's not impressive.

      It came with the Michelin Primacy A/S' (all season). Still on the original tires, but they are definitely on borrowed time.

    We got a GT recently. You touched on the key points here (at least for me when I considered one). 1) The range that Ford estimates is conservative. FWIW, compared to Tesla’s models, they tell the truth. Model Ys, even the LR ones are averaging 280mi range wise. CR ran a test with Mach E GT, Model Y Performance, and a KIA. In all cases, the KIA and Ford came in right where expected. Even in cold weather, in spite of the heat pump, the Tesla was only slightly better than the 2 (~15mi). For my GT, in warm weather, my range estimate goes up to 290 (vs. 275 stated). 2) The weather has a big effect. As stated, you can lose up to 40% of range if the temps drop below 40, but this is true for almost all EVs. 3) Additional tip: you can put the car into temporary neutral by pressing and holding “L” (after you exit the vehicle).

    • @evuniverseCOM

      Thank you! How are you liking the GT?

    • @m3drivr
      @m3drivr Місяць тому

      @@evuniverseCOM We’re really enjoying it. The tech, performance, build quality is quite good, though the ride is a little on the stiffer side, especially on poor roads. Yes, I think Ford could improve on the software, but the general needs of the user are met. I am glad that we got the GT. While the AWD Premium is pretty good already, the additional performance and slightly more upscale interior make it just a little more special. As a car nerd, one thing I didn’t like was the lack of rubber with the non GT variants, hence I leaned towards it. One note,I didn’t consider the GT PE because 1) the wheels, though nice, will be a repeated pain to clean and 2) the tires on it are summer tires, which means if you will have to get new rubber if you live/travel to snowy climates.

    I drive an MME in Whitehorse, Yukon and I’ll completely agree with your point on how well it drives in winter. Regen braking works better than any ABS ever made.

    • @evuniverseCOM
      @evuniverseCOM  Місяць тому +1

      That's awesome to hear! The Mustang Mach-E's performance in winter conditions, especially with regen braking, sounds truly impressive. It's great to see how electric vehicles like the MME excel in cold climates.

      @MrGamman3yt 21 день тому

      Plz talk about how much range in the cold.

    • @Thunderbuck
      @Thunderbuck 20 днів тому

      @@MrGamman3yt Sure. In the very coldest days of winter (we can see below -40) it cuts my indicated range by as much as half. And I’ll also admit that charging also slows down in the cold and I have to pay more attention to what charge I’m maintaining. But even at the very worst, at -40 at a full charge I’ve got about 150km range (vs over 400km in warmer weather).
      I don’t own my home and can only charge with the portable 120V on my block heater plug, but my employer has just moved to a building with L2 chargers and I expect these will easily keep my car “full” in the winter.

    Odd comment about charging to 90% in the Select & which is an LFP battery (the only one to have, really). Having owned both NMC & now LFP battery chemistries in EVs, I’d never go back to NMC. ANY EVs with LFP battery chemistry can be charged whenever & how ever you like including to 100%. Beyond that 100% charge there is also a trickle charge battery balancing phase which generally checks out the battery health & adjusts cells as necessary. Down side on the bigger NMC batteries in many Western-built EVs is the general ginning about - only change to 80-90% on a regular basis (makes the range rating somewhat ingenuous) and along charge to 100% + balance every six weeks or so. Much prefer LFP.

    Does this vehicle come in a hybrid model? I'm asking because there are hardly any EV charging stations in my area.

    • @evuniverseCOM
      @evuniverseCOM  19 днів тому

      No, the Mustang Mach-E is a battery only vehicle. However, depending on how much you drive, you wouldn't necessarily need public charging stations. For most EV owners, a home charger is more than enough for daily driving, and never use the public chargers in their area. Where a lack of public charging becomes problematic is if you're trying to do roadtrips to/through areas that lack the infrastructure.

    13:20 I'm a little confused. you say that its cost about $60 a month to charge the car with all the driving you do and you also say it increased your electric bill. Are these two things separate? does your electric bill not just increase by about $60 a month? or does your bill increase separate from the money your paying to charge the car?

    • @evuniverseCOM
      @evuniverseCOM  19 днів тому

      the $60 a month is the increase in the electric bill.

      One of the big reasons to get EV over hybrid no maintenance on EV

    • @m3drivr
      @m3drivr Місяць тому

      @@Sluggo67 agreed. Hybrids are a stop gap. A mechanic I respected was working on a hybrid Highlander and was complaining about the integration. I debated one too, but if you consider the efficiency, for big SUVs, the gain is marginal. Hybrids make more sense for small crossovers but you still have maintenance.
