I have been having so much self doubt leading up to the UCAT exam in July. I’m stressing out but really just trying to take it one day at a time. It always helps to know that others out there that can understand.

Congratulations on your match! I chose to pursue another career after getting accepted to medical school this fall. I would say that western medicine does save lives, but I am not so convinced that the pillar of western medicine is to promote health. Sustaining life is something that our medical system does well, but a lot of illnesses that we treat with medication or surgery are highly preventable. Managing diabetes or hypertension with medication should be the last resort in my opinion (teach a person to fish they eat for a lifetime, feed a person they eat for a day). To me, a lot of medicine is just feeding people, and not truly teaching them health. There are certain fields where this is less prevalent, but the majority of what I saw in clinics was slightly depressing. Any thoughts on this from the other side of medical school?

"Helping people" should not be your primary motivation (or at least you shouldnt say so in an interview) for medicine. If you want to help people you could also work as a nurse or as a social worker. The main reason for wanting to go to med school "should" be the interest in the field itself, otherwise you might find yourself disappointed at some point, if helping people doesnt go as you would want it to be.
At least this is what i learned and was taught :/

how did u start, did u have to take pre requisites first and how does it work like u had 4 years of med school after u take basic college classes, also did u work during this process bc i’m worried if i were to take this path i wouldn’t be able to pay rent and afford basic living
