It's so great hearing the perspective of a non-traditional student. I don't think it's talked about enough -- though it's so important to know that there are many pathways to get into medicine!
I love your content and do aspire to be a medical professional (ER physician). Please do more interviews and maybe one doing an ER interview experience! Thank you for your your content and commitment towards your UA-cam too! Xoxo
This was really helpful! I always wanted to do medicine but unfortunately was not in the best environment as a spring chicken. Long story short-I went to college and did what my advisors told me to do. I became a lawyer in my very early twenties and knew I didn’t want to do it. I was lucky enough to have no debt because I was a scholarship kid but now in my mid twenties I’m determined to do my own thing and live my life. I’m so lost as to whether I should do a whole new degree or post bac program.
Hey Jamie! Thanks for putting this interview up! I am currently a non traditional applicant and went through a post bacc program as well. I definitely concur with pretty much everything Dania said. It is a MUST that people interested in post bacc programs look at the success rate of the programs and the reviews before applying. Some schools may not always give you the support that they claim to so its better to know that before entering. I think another thing to add is to try to find a post bacc that grants you a Masters degree. I think on top of boosting your science GPA and getting the letter of recommendation, it would be nice to get a degree after putting in all your hard work. Not too many people can say they got a bachelors, masters and medicine degree, which I think is pretty cool! Good luck to the both of you! Can't wait to see where your guys match! ^.^
I went to one of the masters programs at a university in Philly. The program helped me get a deeper understanding of the sciences and it provided a lot of med school prep. I do think that you had to come in with a good grasp on some MCAT subject topics but overall, the programs offered a lot of opportunity to take med school like courses.
Thank you for making this video! I studied English as an undergrad and worked in marketing for a while. I realized after working in marketing for some time that marketing wasn't the field for me. I considered other fields, but nothing truly appealed to me or made me excited. However, I was always drawn to medicine, but I feared taking the required courses. I'm coming over my fear, and I'm taking the courses to get into med school. It's good to hear other non-traditional applicants. It makes me feel less alone!
Thanks hon! Interesting journey for them :) I like to hear about medical school students striving. I do not plan to go to med school, but I like hearing about the success of others. I have included my academic and career journey here.
Thanks for featuring your friend in one of your vlogs. This has really helped me on my discernment process. I'm curently studying Psychology too but just recently decided to pursue Medicine. So, this is somewhat reassuring for me. Thank you so much to both of you! And I hope that you both will do well as doctors in the future! 🙌
Love the interview style with two ladies chillin under comfy covers haha! God bless you both, hope your interviews go stellarly! If that's not a word it should be!
Hi Jamie! Thank you for interviewing a non-traditional applicant. It's comforting to know that the name of the school isn't everything when medical schools are considering applicants. That being said, do you have any med school friends who started off at community college? Although I attend a large university now, I took a few core science courses at a community college and often worry that medical schools will look down on me for that choice. Any insights you or your friends have about that topic would be much appreciated:) Thanks again for this video!
Hey, try not to worry too much about where you attended community college compared to a traditional 4-yr undergrad education. I’m a non-traditional student myself (38 yrs old) and at the end of my first semester in medical school. I started out at a community college to get an associate degree in a field I could use for work. I later went back to the same school for more core courses and then transferred to a local 4-yr school. Last year I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in biology and went on to apply to medical school. I started this year so you can definitely do it! The thing schools are most concerned about are your grades and GPA at whichever schools you’ve attended. Graduate and medical schools really do look for a variety of *qualified* students, including non-traditional people like me. Keep doing your best to reach your goals!
Kate T Is this question for me? If so, I’m not the oldest in my class. There are one or two others who have me beat by 2-3 yrs. The current M2s have told me there’s a student who is almost 50 in their class! Mad kudos to that person for managing this journey at their age 👍🏼. One of the M3s was a high school classmate of mine who is my same age. Honestly, age shouldn’t keep someone from a goal if it’s something for which you are passionate.
Omg! Love Your videos ! This video definitely helped me come to the conclusion that I want to go into medical school! I majored in social work and then went on to get my masters in social work as well. While there I ended up doing research and getting accepted for a publication. I use to always get down on myself because I did not initially major in pre-med or biology or chemistry as a undergrad.
Hello! I love your channel! You are an inspiration! Can you please interview another non traditional student possibly one who did not do a postbac? Thank you!
Thank you for this interview! I'm going to be a non-traditional student and will be doing a post bacc the year after next. I still haven't come acros anyone with a non-health/mental health major. I was originally a psych major but switched to Asian studies and I cannot find anyone with a similar major or liberal arts degree like English or cultural studies with no concentrations or minors.
I'll be a non traditional student for physician assistant school. But thankfully I found a school that has a post bacc AND an excellent PA program. They are so friendly and I can tell they really care about their students.
It nice to hear multiple perspectives. I dont ever see videos on staying safe as a medical student. I have had some rough experiences that made me question if it's still worth it. Do you have any experiences that you can share?
What to look for!! 1. Go somewhere where you can get good grades. 2. go to a place where a letter of recommendation is guaranteed. 3. Cost bc med school is $$$$.
Hi Ive been running all over your vlogs and im IN LOOOOVE with you guurl 😁 please tell us how you do To have a face fo clean so beatiful liké that? Do you have tips for skin care ? Youre amazing Jamie :*
Hey, I would like more about Danias decision regarding clinical psychology vs going to medical school for psychiatry and why she eventually decided against it. Is it possible to contact her, e.g. via e-mail?
Thanks for this one! I'm a non-Trad and this helped. I've never heard of a post Bacc before - wonder if that's because I'm in Canada? Something to research.
I love the last part of this video. I did the same, asked everyone I could find online and researched which University had the highest graduation/success rate... So happy I went with Queen's...
it stands for "post-baccalaureate" student. once you graduate from college, you're considered a "baccalaureate," aka you have your bachelor's degree. but, if you feel that you need additional coursework either to boost your GPA or to take classes you've never taken before, you can apply to a post-bac program to do so. it's kinda confusing because post-bac students are usually treated as graduate students, but since most post-bac programs don't give you an official degree at the end, you're in this grey area between an undergraduate student and a graduate/medical student. also, not all post-bac programs are aimed at medicine or even health professions at large. they can be in engineering, etc. hope that helps!
Hey Jamie, what if you are in between the two paths? I have taking some but not all of the pre-med requisites. So I am confused on if there is a program for me.
Hi, so I have a little concern about post bacc. I wanted to do a post bacc but I am not sure which one to do since I have all my prereqs except Ochem 2. which post bacc do you think is the best idea, please ? Thanks
I'm currently confused by the time post bacc & med school application timelines.. If anyone could clarify things for me it would help a lot. So if I want to do an academic enhancer post bacc program for a year after undergrad and then hopefully go to med school, would I be applying to post bacc and med school basically at the same time?
It's so great hearing the perspective of a non-traditional student. I don't think it's talked about enough -- though it's so important to know that there are many pathways to get into medicine!
It'sPriv que ??
I needed to hear this interview. I'm a graduate psych major and want psychiatry/neuro. so this was great to hear
also a psych graduate and currently in a post bacc (: loved hearing this!
I LOVED this! I'm a career changer post-bac finishing up my program in the spring! it's was nice to learn about another post-bac's success!
the routes of medicine in america are so different from the ones we have in the UK :O so insightful!

You should do a longer interview of this! :) like what do you mean by “go where you can get good grades”

Te casarías.conmigo? Necesito los papeles.
What's it like starting medical school at a mature age? Are you the oldest in your class?

It nice to hear multiple perspectives. I dont ever see videos on staying safe as a medical student. I have had some rough experiences that made me question if it's still worth it. Do you have any experiences that you can share?

What to look for!!

What was the lipstick/color you were wearing when talking about the strive shirts??? that was such a Look™

What does it mean to choose a program where you will get good grades? How can you guarantee an outcome beforehand? I would love to hear your view 🙂
Very helpful interview
Hey, I would like more about Danias decision regarding clinical psychology vs going to medical school for psychiatry and why she eventually decided against it. Is it possible to contact her, e.g. via e-mail?
Can international graduates apply for post bacc in the us?
Thanks for this one! I'm a non-Trad and this helped. I've never heard of a post Bacc before - wonder if that's because I'm in Canada? Something to research.
Thanks for sharing this video, Such great advice by her. Wich Post Bacc Program did she go to?
I love the last part of this video. I did the same, asked everyone I could find online and researched which University had the highest graduation/success rate... So happy I went with Queen's...
what does post bacc even mean? sorry, im not american so i dont know some of the jargon you guys use

Hi, quick question. I really want to become a doctor, but I am worried about the cost, any suggestions?
yeaaa candy learned the paw trick
Holaaaaa☺☺☺ Me encantan tus vídeos , Saludos desde México ☺😊😊😊😊
Great video! Very informative but I'm also wondering where did Dania complete her post bacc education? and is she still pursuing psychiatry?
If you have older credits, say 8 years old. Would it still be better to take a post-Bad? Or taking the classes over?
Can India place orders for merchandises..?
#lovelove 😘
yeah please tell

Where did she do her post bacc?
Are you able to get a v neck shirt?
What are the forums that Dania mentioned in this video?
WHat post bacc school did Dania go to?
What does it mean non traditionnel student? And BACC post? i like Ur friend
*What post bacc program did she go to?*
What specialty did she go into?
How much physics do you need in medical school and how good do you have to be at physics lol I find it so hard and I don't like it
What school did your friend Diana attend for her post-bacc program?
they're not going to tell you. For some reason people are afraid to admit which school they go to
This was so interesting! I am a psych major as well but I am pursuing a PhD in clinical psych as opposed to psychiatry, so I’m in a similar boat ☺️
omg i love the cat
What if I went into nursing to help bring up gpa? (And gain experience) Or would those classes not be looked at as a part of my science gpa?
can a person study two professions at the same time like a dentist and a brain doctor?
almasa Shine that would be extremely time consuming but it's not impossible
almasa Shine no.
U look like u lost some weight!
