I’ve just got some figures from Gridserve after talking to them this morning, for a 2 year lease from March next year. Got to decide whether to have Techno in the colour I want, or Alpine esprit in a standard colour. Both the same price (well actually Alpine is £2.50 more per month) Really can’t decide which way to go.
For £2.50 I’d maybe go Alpine but not sure because of reduced range. I saw yesterday you could get Techno long range for £400 a month, 3 down (£1200) 10,000 a year miles yesterday- great deal it’s dropped £30 a month. Make sure you are shopping around.
@ Gridserve are offering me £304.50 and £307 over with 12 months upfront and 5k a year. Because I’m retired I only average 4k anyway. Also using a bit of man maths, selling my current Zoe will cover that upfront plus about a year of payments. (At least that’s how I’m going to justify it to the missus) After 2yrs if I still like it, I’ll probably look out for a used one, I suspect there’ll be plenty of ex lease ones on the market at that point, as l think it’ll be hugely popular because of its range.
Thank you for this video, We pick our Alpine up next week. Excited and nervous at the same time. But the range video really helped. My only concern is charging . HOME charges to be installed ASAP. Keep on doing the videos Really helpful.
Thanks for the video, new to your channel. I have the Polestar 2 with Google maps and I find it very pessimistic but I'd rather that than too optimistic. Can be out by as much as 20% on a long journey.
Just subscribed. Really interested in this car I have the Nissan Ariya at the moment but will be changing to either this or a Tesla Y. Great video, looking forward to your full review matey 👍
I think it's Great family car, very spacious, excellent range, good looks, what's not to like? As you said the recharge speed was suprisingly poor, I wonder if this was down to the Tesla charger?
Think the charging curve is poor. I’m hoping they can improve in software maybe. One thing I noticed- it’s totally silent when fast charging whereas Teslas have high speed fans cooling the system. One of the few downsides to the car, otherwise I think it’s superb. I will be doing a full review and Tesla comparison. Will be totally honest but I need a few more weeks with the car yet.
Great video, but I'm a bit confused. You are doing your kW conversion based on a 87KW battery, but the Scenic E-Tech Techno version is a 60KW battery with a 260m range?. The Alpine and Iconic have an 87KW battery with a 379m range. My Scenic Alpine in Matt Shadow Grey has just arrived in the UK, and I'm awaiting delivery in the next 10 days. I ordered it with the boot floor and a 3 point plug EV hone charger!. Can you believe that a £45,000 car does not come with electric seats?.
@@baddrivinginglasgow2637 no Techno is just a trim level. This is the long range car. In fact, apart from bigger wheels and some trim difference (blue carpets, seat material, dashboard material, door insert) the Techno and Alpine are exactly the same car in every way. There will be hardly any short range versions (60KW) of this car sold, nearly all will be the long range. Thanks for watching.
I think it was about 47 pence per kWh at both as I went off peak. Watch out though I hear Tesla have really bunged up fees at some locations to 80+ pence for non Tesla.
Thanks for doing this informative range video, I am considering this car and the Megane E Tech, which I know has a much shorter range but is very similar in many ways, tech, motor etc, the extra range of the Scenic is appealing for occasional long trips, but is not a top priority, have you done a test drive in the Megane, if so how did it compare,? I'm looking forward to your full review of the car.
Haven’t done the Megane, nice car, similar tech. For me the selling point of this car is the huge battery, 87 kWh is by far the best bang for the buck. I never had any interest in a French car, I’m still surprised at what a great car Renault have made here. Scenic easily. Aside from the nicer interior, tech and the fact it’s battery, the ride is so much better. Sportage very bouncy, Scenic chassis seems just right.
So you have to drive at 60 to get a decent range? A 280 mile journey at 70 takes 4 hours, at 60 4hr40 plus you have to hang around for an hour waiting to charge? A 4 hour journey in a fossil burner suddenly adds almost 50% to the journey time. Seems like we're going back to horse and carriage times for travelling across the UK. It's not progress. That said, I have to replace my company car in 4 months time and the Scenic is at the top of my list. This was just the review I was looking for, after watching about 20 videos on the Scenic. Thanks.
@@WillScott73 Hi, yes I didn’t have to charge en route it was because I was stopping anyway. I didn’t charge coming back (well just whilst I had breakfast that morning topping up the battery). This is an unusual route in that there’s virtually no routes where you could travel this distance in a day without encountering lots of slow traffic. In fact it will be rare for anyone to do that distance and average 60mph even if they go 80 when they can I suspect. I’m doing another test tomorrow, down to Milton Keynes and back. In my Tesla I might ‘just’ have made it in perfect conditions but usually had to charge briefly. This will be more typical of driving in the U.K.- traffic cameras average speed on the M1, jams etc. I am going to set it to 65 and see how we go. Should do it, 280 miles there and back. Stay tuned. Also you would never normally charge to 100%. You normally would charge to 80% max, and that last 20% takes a long time. So you would not normally stop so long to charge. In normal circumstances I’d likely have charged only for the time needed to eat my lunch, then set off again. You also save a lot of time generally with an EV never going to a petrol station at home. The ‘I’ll have to go out and get some petrol’ runs are not missed. I’ve had an EV for 6 years and much prefer it, as most (87%) would not go back to ICE.
I doubt it’s the camera itself (as in lens resolution) because even a £10 webcam has a better resolution. Suspect it may be the way the bitrate is dealt with in the computers etc, but who knows. It is odd.
@@gerry5134 If it is the camera itself someone may bring out an upgrade as it looks easy to unscrew and get access to under the boot lip just screwed in.
@@harry7384 yes the steering wheel I noticed it was capacitive, was going to mention that in my upcoming review. Much better than having to tug it constantly.
I don’t think it’s fair to say Tesla needs to change the chargers to suit other car models. Maybe other manufacturers should put the charge port in the right place. I know you’re trying to convince yourself that the Renault can compete with the efficiency of a Tesla driving at proper motorway speeds but it can’t.
Not really cars have the ports all over, and Tesla has opened up chargers to these cars, but have bump stops way off the chargers, and very short leads (which as a 6 year Tesla owner, new S and new 3 were often verging on too short even for Tesla). I’m not trying to convince myself of anything, I’m doing tests like I did in my 3. The car won’t be as efficient as a 3, for obvious reasons, there’s not that much difference with a Y I don’t think. The huge battery is fantastic though because it’s the same to buy as a Model 3 RWD and I can get about 50 -75 more miles in the same conditions in a bigger more practical car. That really matters to me because I am not stopping to charge nearly as much, less range anxiety and much cheaper. Charging on the go is expensive, even on Tesla chargers. Tesla’s are excellent cars no doubt, I’m not knocking them, I am a big fan and advocate. However, the lineup is aging and the value isn’t fantastic. Thanks for watching, full review coming soon where I’ll go into some detail about how it compares in my view to Tesla. I am genuinely very impressed with the Scenic but there are areas of improvement that could be easily made. I used to be quite blinkered, Tesla was the only decent EV.
