This is from Disney's The Hunchback Of Notre Dame. It was in the movie, that Geoff is channeling Minister Frollo. J. None was a member till 2021 when he joined the Navy to sing for five years. He recently was promoted and has been stationed in Washington DC, so he is much closer to the guys. We should be seeing more of him. Before he had been flying home to Florida on his leaves to do videos and shorts from Seattle, Washington. This is one of those videos where he flew in that morning and flew back that afternoon.

Claude Frollo wasn’t a minister, he was a judge.

@@tararocksong5085 Both. In Disney's 1996 animated film, Claude Frollo (voiced by Tony Jay) is Paris' judge/Minister of Justice and the villain as in the novel, the Archdeacon of Notre Dame is a separate character entirely (and voiced by David Ogden Stiers), and the character of Jehan is omitted..

@@adambaker4590, ok that’s true. But still Frollo was a sinister man who blames anyone except himself for his misdeeds.

@tararocksong5085 He was indeed a sinister minister. But yeah, never said he was a good person morally; just his title as "Minister Frollo" isn't inaccurate.

It IS from Disney's cartoon "Hunchback of Notre Dame", and it's one of the darkest villain song from Disney. Well, Frollo is likely to be THE worst Disney villain EVER. And they kinda tried to "save" as much humanity in him as possible! 😅
What surprises me is that Disney in those years had such a dark, evil villain in a children movie. 🙂
They gave a superb rendition of this song. 🙂
As you don't seem to have yet, let me suggest you to react to Geoff Castellucci's (the bass here) latest release for Halloween, "Jack's Lament" from "Nightmare before Christmas". Believe me, you'd be in for a treat! 🙂
    See you next time!

While "Hunchback..." is one of darker Disney animation features - it is actually much lighter than the classic French novel by Victor Hugo it was based on.

@@tatewakinew Absolutely agreed. But the French novel by Victor Hugo wasn't meant to be a children's tale... 🙂

I missed watching the Hunchback as it fell between my childhood and my son’s. When they covered this song as one of the villains in their ACA Top10s I went to watch the movie. I was horrified at this evil twisted so-called pious monster. It was very difficult for me to believe that Disney actually did that movie.
Geoff has resisted doing this because he is such an evil character but Layne wrote this amazing arrangement so he finally gave in. Geoff’s version of Frollo does show just a little bit of humanity in the beginning when he actually looks tormented rather than simply insane. They saved this song for me and now I can listen to it and appreciate the powerful beauty in it.
When you re-listen, watch his posturing change as this song continues. Also the BGV’s‘s are almost overshadowed because of the powerful delivery. But there’s a lot going on in the backgrounds. In the beginning, there are those Dum Dum Dum sounds that remind me of church bells tolling, reminding us that this is Notre Dame. When J is singing his small solo, Geoff is doing these bubbly little arpeggios in the background. And when Geoff is interrogating the Guard, the BGV’s’s are “gyp-sy es-caped”. It is all those little tiny details that make me return back to their releases over and over again. I’ve listened to this at least once or twice daily since they released it and it never fails to give me the chills.

It's Frollo' song from The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The bass is Geoff Castellcci who does low bass covers on his own channel. It is the darkest song Disney ever did. J.None used to be a full member of VoicePlay but left in 2021 to sing with the US Navy Music section, by invitation. He now appears as a guest when on leave from his duties.

It is definitely the same song from the 90s movie! it is considered one of the darkest Disney songs ever and also Frollo is one of the most sinister villains and this song really shows why! He blames everyone but himself for his lust!

I really enjoyed your reaction- thanks! Yes, shocking that this dark piece was actually from a Disney movie (Geoff was reluctant to do it at first). J None was a member of Voice Play before he left to join the Navy. He is still very close with them and comes back frequently as a featured guest when he is on military leave. He has not been permanently replaced so other featured artists have been filling in (we hope but don't know if J None is coming back after his tour of duty is over). Voice Play are seasoned professionals, past performers for Universal and/or Disney theme parks since they graduated high school. They do not have a contract or record label by choice so they have complete control of their creative expression but because they stay independent, they don't have all the Grammy awards and star on Hollywood Walk Of Fame the way Pentatonix has. Geoff's talent and range are incredible and his recent Halloween release on his solo channel ("Jack's Lament") is blowing everybody away on the internet right now. Other Halloween themed must see for Voice Play are: "Superstition", "Grim Grinning Ghosts", "Ding Dong/Hide and Seek", "In The Hall Of The Mountain King" and "Once Upon A Dream". For Solo Geoff, must see covers are "Jack's Lament", "Headless Horseman", "Monster Mash", and "Ghost Riders In The Sky". Geoff and Voice Play are considered the theater kids of acapella music and the kings of Halloween.

The difference with Voiceplay is their joy and dedication in their music and collaboration. No matter what the subject. They have full control, they are not beholden to anyone but their patreons. So they can do what is fun, what is heartbreaking, and what might be dangerous for another group to try. (Hall Of The Mountain King? Good Grief!)

Good to see you here! Everything they do is spectacular - they do a lot of Halloween stuff, but I'm guessing you will be knocked out by their take on Grieg's Hall of the Mountain King. It's dressed for Halloween and gorgeously cinematic, but the vocals take star billing, as always. Also listen to their covers of Creep and Dream On. Incredible.

His wife said it gave him an excuse to go get more pumpkins! Lol!😂

This is from Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame. This is sung by the villain Frollo.
    Left to right....
Layne Stein - beatboxer, baritone, arrangements.
J None - baritone, former member.
Geoff (Jeff ) Castellucci - bass, arrangements.
Eli (like jelly) Jacobson - tenor, rock tenor, lighting.
Cesar De La Rosa - baritone, tenor.
J None left Voiceplay in 2021 to sing with the US Navy choir. He has 3 years to go. He returns every chance he gets to sing with them.
Cesar joined in 2021 to replace J None but all hints are that he's going to rejoin when gets done.
Voiceplay at present only has 4 members so they collaborate with various artists for the 5th depending on the song.
Geoff Castellucci has his own channel where he sings solo with instruments. He clones himself 3-4 times for harmonies. Usually they're in the videos with him but a few times they were background harmonies.

...and the walk-on part of the 'Guard' was Tony Wakim, ex-VP baritone, now co-owner of Pattycake Studios together with Layne, hence why VP film most of their videos there - so there were 4 VP baritones together on set (even if Eli did the voice of the guard's part!) By the way, Pattycake have their own channel too - their 'Villain's Lair' series is exceptional..!

Voice Play did get together in high school so it's close to being college. We can tell when you like something because you start pursing your lips slightly almost a smile. There are some pretty bad Disney villains if you really think about what they do like trying to throw a kid into the Australian outback to get rid of him. (Rescuers Down Under) The music can be dark for them.

"That's a KIDS movie!" Yep. Disney's (arguably) darkest work and most evil villain. Oh, and here's a little reactor tip. When you pause it, before you start it again, rewind it 10-15 seconds, because VP vids require utmost attention, and it's really easy to miss a tidbit if you even glance away from the screen.

This was from the original Hunchback of Notre Dame that was a silent film in B&W. Disney left out the fire part & had minister Frollo hang Esmeralda the same way Frollo hung her lover before her. In the original Frollo did burn down all of Paris to find her. Disney left that part out..

It is indeed a Disney tune from an animated feature, but notable in that it's the first and only time that they've managed to put a straight-up _lustful_ villain on the screen. And wow, what a despicable, loathesome creature he is. VoicePlay was almost too kind to him here. XD

Beyond beautifully sung 🙏 interesting to say the least, powerful song, it is dark for sure, lust is a powerful emotion; that can turn you to the dark side of the force, strong passion can look like lust; but lust and super strong passion are to different entities, strong passion joined with true love is a beautiful thing; with these two emotions making a super duo, usually endures in quiet silence; and only wants a beautiful outcome; weather passionate true love wins or not, lust is pure selfish desire, the out come is always the same, if i can't have it all to myself, no one will have it, interesting indeed ❤️‍🔥

The Hunchback of Notre Dame by Victor Hugo, 1831...so dark even Disney couldn't disney-fy it by much? I never saw this movie version, but I assume, like The Little Mermaid, Esmeralda isn't allowed to die in the end. And probably not Quasimodo, either. Anyway, this arrangement is really good. Good for VoicePlay for doing it.

some background. Minster Frollo is the leader of that particular area of paris and he is a very very very devout catholic(translation, a radical that will happily burn witches and watch it as he sips his tea). well he runs into the gypsy and is basically, lets play it nice and say "smitten"(really he is just lustful as hell). and this song is about that. i will the original song down below. its definitely one of disneys top songs.
