Hey there - thanks for the review! Just wanted to address a few questions we saw popping up in the comments. To confirm, MAP price that you'll find the AMG UH-1 Gen II at dealers is $499. We list MSRP on our website ($799) which can cause confusion. In regards to battery life, you'll get 1,500 hours on brightness setting 8. The "comet" effect you're referring to is the refresh rate of the laser, but you'll likely only see this when moving the optic extremely fast (in a way that isn't representative of most shooting scenarios) laterally or vertically. Hopefully that clears up any confusion, but obviously let us know if you have any other questions.
This right here is one of the reasons I love Vortex as a company! They are out here responding to comments and answering questions even on review that wasn’t great. You guys are awesome!
I was about to make this comment as well. I have a knock off version of this sight for my airsoft 416, Its beautifully replicated actually, and it seems big.. BUT when manipulating the rifle it goes unnoticed.
After filtering out all the subjective issues... there was little, if any, real objective issues. Essentially a "I don't like it but I like it" review. As for battery life. . . I always have to chuckle when people complain about replacing a $2 battery after 1,500 hours (62.5 - 24 hour days... I mean really?). Turn it off - save the poor $2 battery. If they cost $20 apiece, I could see the complaint. As of today, Amazon has 16 Lithium, CR123A, with a 10 year shelf life (2.75 YEARS of 24/7 operation) for under $20 (works out to be 60¢ per month or 2¢ per day. Again... a non-issue. Warrantee: Priceless.
Not to mention this isn’t a read dot it projects differently then a red dot and takes more energy to project with this hints use more battery same with eothech etc.
@@TheUnholyLordClownz nah, it’s a known issue by Vortex. They acknowledged to me there was a batch that had extreme drain issues, mine was one of them and was replaced. My old one would drain a new battery in less than 5 days. New one is still going strong, I’ve got a Gen 1 that went over a year in the same battery, and none of my 4 Eotechs experience this issue..
@@alexmacksey9257 ooooh, THAT kinda drain. My bad, I've talked to people before about them being upset their eotechs were left in a safe and the batteries were dead the following year they take it out again so I assumed that's what you were talking about.
I agree, I just ordered both within 2mo and my eotech xps3 was $600+ with discount code on optics planet and the vortex I got for $450 with coupon on optics planet.
You aren't wrong with most of your criticisms, but I still like it. I generally agree with Garand Thumb on the auto-shutoff which ticks off a lot of people, I don't run it for 14+ hours straight but if I did, time of day and lighting changes in way less time than that so you're going to touch it during that period and reset the timer. Only thing I disagree is snagging. I had a 3-0 and the bulbous cylinder sticking out at the bottom front has a little gap under it and it was a snag magnet. Haven't had a UH-1 for long, but no such issue. And if you don't like the battery life compared to an Aimpoint, that's not the UH-1's or even EOTech's fault really, it's a compromise when you pick a holographic in general.
I've had zero issues with my Vortex Huey gen 2. I also have a Eotech XPS-0. I actually prefer the Huey over my Eotech. They both take up the same rail space. You could flip a coin over either one of these, you'll be fine. You definitely can not compare a Holographic optic with a Red dot optic. Anyone that says you can have not used both for any length of time, whether combat, competition or range nut.
It has an automatic 14 hour shutoff, street price is $500, and 1500 hundred hour battery life. Kinda crappy review when you only use it for a few weeks, fail to know what you’re talking about as far as details about the optic, and use your ignorance as negatives. Your only valid points were the refresh rate, which isn’t objective, and the “tube” effect which is very subjective.
“More expensive than an eotech” lol wut Vortex’s strategy is literally to compete on price. “Takes up too much space” same rail space as an EXPS This vid is proof that these “me too” hypebeast guntubers truly have no good information to add.
Other than working behind a MAWL, as far as holographic sights 8 out of 9 here have moved to the new Vortex’s. We have all been soldiers or contract professionals for 15+ years and have a combined couple hundred years of experience on Eo’s and Aimpoints. For red dots we all love the Aimpoints. For holo’s we use Trijicons, Vortex or Eo’s. Mostly Vortex on the rifles, and Trij on smaller weapons. We own or get evals on all manner of thermal, holo, PVS and everything else. At some point it comes down to personal preference or how you work. But the Eo’s and Vortex are now (with the G2 Vortex and V3 Eo’s) both top of the heap. BTW, for safety preparedness we change batteries once a year of a lot of use. The batteries still test as nearly full. i have only seen the comet effect slightly on full auto, or on a hard sweep, but nothing that can affect any shot that any of us have ever seen. One thing that I do not agree with is that the larger less obstructed field of view. The Eo’s physically obstruct almost 2 times as much of your sight picture. What you say must be a psychological bias, as that’s just a physical reality that you can measure. Lastly virtually nobody pays $799 for the Vortex- it is $499 almost everywhere. In fact, we have gotten a few at $445.
Here's a recipe for a vortex mini Huey UH-M that solves those issues 1) push the housing back to the midway point of the optic 2) reduce the upper housing and window size by 5-7% 3) increase the fram rate by 15fps 4) add auto shut off with accelerometer (something eotech can't seem to figure out) End result, less weight and bulk with comfortable window size, no more streaking/flashing reticle, increased battery life. Market it as the mini huey for $100 less. Steal the market 🤙
I really like my UH-1 g2. I haven’t experienced any issues with the refresh rate. Ultimately, I think the new “Huey” is a great deal and I have found Vortex’s customer support to be absolutely the best.
Auto-shut-off accelerometers are more for range red dots than hard-use. They are a point of failure. There are a number of design elements that suggest vortex is marketing this for more abusive use cases in the gen2. And eotech is pretty obviously designing for mil contracts, so no accelerometers there.
I think the problem with “shake-awake” in these holographic optics is that the batteries would be dying while not use if the optic is on a weapon in a vehicle or if it’s being carried in a bag on a regular basis.
Cheap $200 holosuns have em. But the OGs wont jump on board- W A C K. Granted, my holosun has like a 7/10 sucess rate on picking up the rifle. 3/10 times I gotta , exaggerate the shake to get it to turn on. Even still tho, 7/10 times without hitting a button, like the Eotech, would still be nice
I have 3 holosuns and a sig Romeo 5 with the shake awake, and I’ve never had to shake or exaggerate them to get them on. I have tried my best to pick them up softly to see if I can get them to not turn on and I can’t. The tech is there, it needs to be used.
As several others have mentioned, the UH1 Gen3 retails for $500 everywhere, and if you look around a little bit, it can be had for even less. A comparable EOTech (EXPS 3-0) will run you close to $700. At almost $200 less than the EXPS 3-0, the UH1 Gen2 is a solid contender.
The only problem I have with UH-1 is the button placement, with the 3x magnifier installed one or the other button is difficult to reach. Outside of that, no issues. Durably is something that will answered in time.
Yeah. We saw the gen 1 drop pretty low in price too. If we see the gen 2 do that too we could see it become a very appealing optic for a lot of people. Especially since the eotechs are price protected due to contracts.
Yeah/nah, bro. Bought them all and love this one. Disagree with your review which I found truly subjective and/or borderline on some points - but appreciated the peaceful style. Thanks,
Thank you for the honest review, I know it’s not fun but we appreciate it. Vortex makes great stuff and seem like great people. But I agree on the gen 2
am glad you reviewed this, its not for everyone and you are not important enough in the vlogger community to warrant a response to your negative review....enjoy your life
I got rid of all of my EOTechs when the class action suit came about. I’m sure I sold hundred of them and loved every minute spent shooting with them. I truly believed the feature set to be superior than other red dots based on MY needs/opinion/likes. Whether it’s fair or not I just didn’t care for the misinformation/exaggeration/lack of integrity that they (the company) spread for years. So I “voted with my $$$. Not to say I’ll never buy an EOTech again, but I do have a G2 UH1 on order and I’m looking forward to giving it a try. I liken it to an experience I had with HK @ SHOT. I had a high level LE rep in HK tell me that “We don’t sell factory parts because there’s no need to... because HKs don’t break”. As I explained to him that we had two customers trying to acquire simple small replacement parts, he dismissed me (and multiple of my staff). So... I find it difficult to believe in them as a company because I believe a company culture like that is dishonest and arrogant. Sorry for the long tangent. What I meant to say is “great review/content” although I don’t agree with all the points at this time. Perhaps after I get my hands on one I will see what you’ve brought up in this review. Keep up the great work.
Thanks! I think the experience your describing is exactly what will drive people who are on the fence toward vortex. As a brand I really like them and their warranty. Interested to hear your feedback once you get yours.
I have actually went to the Vortex now over the Eotechs. The pricing has been, in my experience, much less than the Eotechs. Approximately $200 cheaper, so in swapping to the Vortex I have been able to get Vortex’s 3X Magnifier for much cheaper as a set. Unlike the Vortex combo that goes for approximately $1200.00. The warranty really makes the Vortex a solid decision over the Eotechs. I would recommend to anyone that wants to save considerable money for a Holographic sighting system that is as good as the industry norm. Then give the Vortex Combo a try and I think you will be surprised at how well they perform. I have several Eotechs that I have had for years, so I am not slamming them I am just providing info on a new sighting system that can go head to head and hold its own with a killer warranty. My .02 worth anyway.
I really like the Gen 2 Huey. Now if battery life is your thing most high end red dots now run for 50,000 hours (or 5 years) then a holographic sight cannot compete. But the dot on a holographic sight is superior! A 2 MOA red dot magnified by a 3x magnifier creates a 6 MOA dot. Conversely a 1 MOA dot on a holographic sight magnified by a 3x magnifier is still 1 MOA on the target. SWEETNESS! And the Vortex Huey is the holographic I chose due to the Vortex No Questions Asked Replacement Policy!
I was actually able to buy the uh-1 5 days before it's release for $500 because my store received an early shipment. I can say that I love this optic so far. I have put 500 rounds (not much) through it and have no issue. At first I thought it looked grainy, but once you start shooting you don't notice it. Style wise, I also love it. I know some people may think its big and bulky, but personally, that is my style. I cannot compare it to aimpoint, etotech or any of the others because this is my first red dot, but overall I am glad I bought it.
I got the gen 2 for $500 so don't know how you are thinking it's more expensive so $200 cheaper than the eotech with a no questions asked lifetime warranty very happy with my purchase eotech is overrated big time
@Rocco Cardarelli oh sorry 650 plus point is eotech is more expensive and is known to have problems with bad customer service like i said they are overrated with so many options out now i will never buy another one on
@Rocco Cardarelli yes had 1 just die one reticle flickering never happy with them maybe i have no luck but after looking into the class action lawsuit they have against them im done with them best of luck with yours just not for me anymore
Rocco Cardarelli lol coming from the guy raving about EoTechs which have been garbage overpriced things forever. I’ll keep my made in America lifetime no hassle warranty with one of the best looking reticles on the market. Only person sounds like they work for someone is you and this reviewer for EoTech.
You have no credibility. Video posted on 8/1/2020 but bunch of retailers already selling AMG Gen 2 for $499 yet you say price is $799. A quick Google search would've told you that. Comparing battery life between red dot and holographic sights? That is amateur. Two different technologies. You may want to take this video down because it definitely hurts your credibility and I would not trust any other of your reviews or opinions based on this video. Just saying.
Had 2 Eotech and a bushnell holo aight supposedly made by Eotech , all 3 had delamination, issues, sent the 2 Eotech back fore repair, awesome service, but do I want to keep sending them back every 3 years ? I live in Minnesota with lots of extreme weather, temperatures goes up and downs from outdoors to indoors. Hope the uh1 don’t have that same problem. Thanks for the video
Thanks for posting a legitimate review with your experiences. None of these were deal breakers for me purchasing this optic but I'm glad to know beforehand. I often see/read amazing reviews of optics and am let down when they arrive. I subscribed and hope to see more of these candid reviews in the future!
I am completely shocked. I love my Gen 2 and even my Gen 1 Huey. I actually rate them along with my Eotechs. No kidding, the optics perform flawlessly. Its a fantastic optic.
I just got the uh1 gen 2 and it’s just excellent. At the range and aiming at home I honestly have not even noticed it. It’s also not even like you’re spending your days looking at life through a gun sight, it’s simply to get on target fast, aim, and shoot. Even if I got an EOTech I would not care what they did. None the less I still don’t even notice it. As far as NV that’s an obvious weak point. For non military use and unless you’re hunting at night where you are using night vision, it’s otherwise a non issue. There’s a video of a kid in moms basement testing night vision showing how bad it is. It’s completely unrealistic. If someone breaks in your house you have seconds. It’s not some scene out of zero dark thirty. Anyway I’m 2022 the UH1 is 599 and you can get a non night vision EO for 470. Night vision or the c123 battery price them right back up to $600+. The UH1 with better battery life and a lifetime warranty is the deal for me. No need for night vision. I like the reticle better but that doesn’t matter. And don’t even notice or care about the tint. It makes shooting amazing, like being at the range straight out of battlefield. I have it on an M4-22. Super fun shooting. All in all whatever holographic fits your needs and budget just go with it. Skip the UH1 on night vision only that’s it.
Great video and glad I watched it. Been looking at getting one to see if I can trash one with my level of normal use. I love Eotech but have seen multiple failures (hundreds) with older generations as well as two I've owned of new generation Eotech's. I think my old 552.D1 models (single dot) were the best. Never an issue with the older ones for some reason. We changed department wide to Aimpoint years ago due to the numerous issues we suffered using Eotech. Not all were their fault, some folks treat their optics like a beer can zip tied to the receiver. We had around 140 on Patrol Rifles and 25+ on the Swat Rifles. They just didn't hold up over time. Now I agree 100% with you that the individual has to weigh the reasoning themselves if it's a viable optic. Longevity, reliability, durability, zero retention, etc depend on the individuals observations and assessment. Also their use might not be a harsh as others and could always be much worse. It however must be realistic as well. I beat the hell out of my Eotech's for years but I also maintained them and treated them like an optic my life depended on. Nothing will last you forever without maintenance, nothing. I'm definitely an Aimpoint guy, used them for 30 years and have 20-30 of them. I still trust Eotech and love their products. Hopefully I'll get a Gen 2 Huey in the future and give it a run. Definitely used to looking through a toilet paper tube. The Huey window looks bigger than the Charmin tubes strapped atop mine. I love the micros and M5's but the mainstay of mine are PRO/ACO. That design hasn't failed me since the original. Love holo sights and the Huey is about the best competition I have seen against the Eotech. Hopefully in the future, they might make a green one for "Those Guys", no offense, and maybe a single red dot in the future for "This Guy". Looks to be worth trying for sure.
lol The hood on eotech makes it look much more bulky sitting in front of you the whole time you're talking when you're saying it's not. I think my UH-1 Gen 2 is pretty amazing.
For the price I will stick with EO. But if the price dropped down to the $400 range like the Gen 1 did, I will be all over it. BTW I change my EO battery pretty much around every 10 months which is great considering I change my RMR and Aimpoint every 12month. YMMV
MY PROS FOR VORTEX I don't understand why you keep comparing it to LED RDSs. That is apples & oranges. The only other holographic RDS and the only other comparable optic is Eotech. I own both, a Eotech 552 & a AMG UH-1 GEN 2. VORTEX PROS: #1 The Eotech with its shell/double wall is twice as thick and it is slightly more obstructive than the "tunnel" effect of the Vortex IMO. #2 The Vortex has a much finer center dot over the Eotech. #3. The Vortex has 3 more levels of brightness. It is just ridiculously bright. I haven't had an issue seeing my Eotech reticle. However, I live in the desert and in sandy areas in the noon day sun, this feature still my yet prove useful. It would also be great in situations by bodies of water at certain times of day. #4. The Vortex EBR-CQB reticle is much better that Eotech's circle plex reticle. It is outstanding for applications where this type of reticle is desired. With that being said, I really do like Eotech's #3 BDC reticle & their #4 300blk BDC reticle and if you want holdovers, these 2 are without a doubt better options over the Vortex's triangle at the bottom of their EBR-CQB circle. #5. The Vortex has 1/3rd more battery life (this info may not have been available when this video was made). MY BOTTOM LINE: Eotechs & Vortex AMGs are the only holographic RDS offerings available. The Vortex Razors and all of the Eotechs are excellent choices. I have never had any issues with either. I personally don't think you could go wrong with any of these holographic sights. I also think the Razor looks a lot better anesthetically (looks doesn't swat my opinion, performance does but it is still nice to like how your rifle looks. If you are interested in a holographic sight, I say, get whichever one speaks to you....
Both old and new. But they said they EOTech was good about getting them fixed/replaced. They just didn’t like that they were getting a variety a problems without warning and could t risk the liability. However I’ve had the opposite experience, zero problems with mine.
I just ordered an Eotech XPS2-0 Green; it was on the expensive side of the numbers, but for me it’s the best out there. Once you give a try to a Green sight Optic, there’s no turning back! I’ll complete the combo with an Eotech G33 3x magnifier.
It seems that most of these complaints would generally apply to any holographic sight. Dedicated Aimpoint /red dot users are likely to find any holographic sight to be a different shooting experience. You might like it, you might not. At the end of the day, the Vortex is designed to compete with the Eotech, and it seems to me that the review should have focused on that comparison. Comparing it your more general experience of/preference for shooting red dot optics doesn't really speak to the actual strengths and weaknesses of the optic.
Agreed, and most of the review/comparison was in regards to how it measures up to the eotech. My mentions of other optics were only meant to show where the Vortex fits in the larger scope of all red dots on the market.
I wish you would have left the red dot comparison out of the video. Sounds like you're pretty biased and prefer red dots to holographic sights, which is fine, but for this "review" should have stuck to comparing the gen 2 to the gen 1 or eotech. But it sounds like the gen2 is an upgrade to both the gen1 or eotech and you can find the gen2 for around $500 easy. Obviously if you want long battery life and a lighter sight stick to red dots. Just sounded like the only reason you didn't like it was because it wasn't your typical red dot.
Just showing where it fits in the bigger scope of red dots as a whole. Many people watching this may not be specifically looking for a holographic sight so I felt it was necessary to mention that. Most of the review was focused on its improvements over the gen 1 and how it compares to the holographic benchmark eotech. While it does make improvements I still don’t think it has done anything that would cause people to leave their eotechs for it. As noted in the video my primary optic was an eotech so to say my preference is a red dot is incorrect. Yes they can be had cheaper at street price, the prices listed were listed retail prices direct from manufacturers.
I have one question. Do you even shoot? Half the shit that you make a big deal about isn't an issue at all. The Eotech is taller and wider by just a hair. Just as the UH1 is a hair longer. I love how you compare battery life of both units to a Red dot. You should get your facts and your shit straight and use both of them during the days and night and actually SHOOT. I have used eotech and loved it but I purchased the Vortex because its cheaper and its has a great warranty along with toolless battery compartment. Also, I dont know what your smoking but the Eotech has more Ghosting then the Vortex when sweeping from target to target. Also, for a unit at this price point that is nigh vision capable is a big plus. My personal opinion is this. You cant go wrong with either one. I love the Vortex warranty thats what sold me.
Eotech looks better aesthetically but honestly the gen2 UH1 has a better reticle and it’s reticle looks better in real life. I never got the “tube” effect from the hood and the fov seems better with a slighter larger glass. Optics are definitely one thing where everyone’s mileage varies. I would have like it more aesthetically if the hood was shorter like the eotech but from limited experience with the uh1 I never had any “tube effect” issues.
When you say those swat guys had eotechs "go dead" on them do you mean the battery died or the optic actually failed/broke? If it was the battery that just seems irresponsible on their part.... by design holographic sights will always have shorter battery life than normal red dots. If you choose to put one on a duty weapon and then fail stay on top of it knowing that battery life is limited on holo optics then thats not Eotechs fault.
I disagree with a lot of what was said here, though that shouldn't be a surprise since you're reading something on the internet. That being said I think some points that were made are bad points to make. For starters I think you made it sound like the vortex is just overly huge/bulky when it really isn't when compared to the eotech you have in the video. The dimensions are very similar, and as you pointed out the footprint nearly identical (if they actually aren't). When we are talking about having room for mounting optics we are really discussing the footprint of the optic, and since these are so similar I think it's unfair to claim the vortex is somehow larger. I also don't think it's really fair to compare whatever MSRP is listed on the optics. You said yourself that you can get the optics cheaper for the "street price." I bought my vortex brand new from optics planet for $500, which is comparable to the eotech around $550 currently at optics planet as well. So you aren't really spending more on the vortex realistically. You also spoke about battery life. You didn't compare the eotech to any LPVO/micro dots but you did compare the vortex to them which is inherently unfair to do since both of the optics you have in this review are holographic sights that use more battery power than any LPVO/micro dot. Yeah, we would all love to see holographic sights have extended battery life but it's just not how these holographics are designed. That has to be accepted as it is currently. Of these points I am not saying the vortex is better than the eotech. I'm only saying I disagree with the honesty of this review.
I've used the eotech at match before on a rifle I didnt own and I sighted in a vortex huey. I like the huey more but the eotech did not perform bad at all, I just dont really trust the company all that much
So, would a HOLOSUN 512C reflex sight be a better choice? Seems the complexity (laser, mirrors, etc.) of a holographic sight makes it more fragile in rough use compared to the simplicity of a LED reflex sight. With my HOOLOSUN 509T enclosed circle dot sight I'm really liking that "circle of death" circle reticle.
It’s not a red dot, it’s a holographic sight. That’s an important difference. They function differently. The triangle is not a ‘holdover’, it’s an alternate aiming point for cqb, you know what cqb is right??? Lol. You are not qualified to be judging combat optics. Compare it’s size to competitive holographics, the eotech is only a few mm’s shorter, width of the eotech is wider and footprint on the weapon are identical in terms of rail space taken up.
Eotech quality control sucks! Received a new exps3 3 weeks ago and it had glue inside the rear glass, right in the middle of the glass!. Returned it and ordered another one, second one was better but was scratched and marks of being used out of the box. Returned it as well. Ordered a last one and it worked OK for 3 days and just yesterday it started having issues where I have to push the buttons multiple times to make it turn on. Already requested a return and full refund. No more eotech for me.
Hey, nice review. I prefer this Gen ii to my Exps 3. But thats why we have options. :) to fit everybody's preferences. I don't notice tubing effect? Just me though.
Interesting... for everyone take it for what’s its worth but I own both as well. I like the vortex better and I have the gen 1 with non of the upgrades. Is it worth the higher price? Lmao how can you say it’s not worth the higher price when it literally cost about $125 less? You cant say the vortex is $800 when the street price is $500 and EOTech is about $600+. You’re comparing MSRP when just about nobody is going to buy it at that price. Then you go on to say it’s bigger only to compare it side by side and it’s foot print is literally about the same. Huh??? Then you talk about a tubing effect??? If you have a tubing effect from the vortex then you have issues shouldering a rifle because it ain’t much different in the grand scheme of things vs the EOTech. Overall I liked your video but at the same time I’m baffled that everything you talk about is just idk seems really off. I’ve got no idea how you came to compare these the way you did lol. Buy a vortex and EOTech and find out for yourself. I’d take the vortex for $100 less any day. Some models of EOTech are even more than $100 more. Plus EOTech can’t compare with their warranty plus they cost more... I’m confused at this point why anyone would suggest an EOTech at this point. The vortex is just a better optic, better warranty, no drifting in the heat, and it cost less. Idk I’m not getting where you come from in your review. I just want people to give the vortex a shot if you can. I found it worth it and will be selling my EOTechs to replace with all gen 2’s.
Not throwing it under the bus, as I stated in the video it is a good optic, but there just isn’t anything about it, for me, that would lead me to ditch any of my current optics for it.
I prefer the T2 on my main rifle, and I run rmrs on my hand guns, I had an eotech and sold it, but get what you like and what works for you, cant fault you for being honest.
I would like a video comparing red dot vs. holographic. I want something for CQB. I read holographic provides the faster site acquistion and a versatile recticle for both CQB and intermediate. Holographics also allow you to keep both eyes open and on target. I also want the best field of view for situational awareness, not tunnel vision.
If you can, try some out. Personally, I think the full size aimpoints like M2/M4 are preferable. Had them in the army. Not a big fan of the micro red dots personally, takes a smidgeon longer to find the dot. Something to consider is paralax in optics.
I am not sure where you are getting your pricing from but that Vortex I see everywhere for far cheaper than the Eotech. You can't go with manufacturer msrp because they don't sell for that. Taking into account the almost $200 cheaper Vortex, it erases most if not all of the downfalls of that sight. You can get the Razor for $499 all over the place from reputable retailers where as the Eotech is $649 plus in most places. That killed your video for me sorry.
@@XiaoPP1 so you like the UH1? I’m thinking if we get a 2G stimulus check then I’ll get an AR with this. It’s a little cheaper than an EOTech with a better warranty. Merry Christmas
I guess all holographic sights have some issues. Eotechs are sooo weird how so many cops and guys will rave about them but I've seen one crap out at my range with just normal shooting. And my other buddy had one during that whole scandal, and he got his refund from them at least, but they had to be sued to offer a refund for their lemon products.
Fishskyn I chose the 512C for price I got mine for $300 and because I do have astigmatism. I looked through a Holosun 510C at my local turners outdoorsman and it was supper crisp and clear. I still haven’t gotten a chance to look through an eotech or huey yet but I would like to to see how my astigmatism effects the sight.
Sig Romeo 8T is a better choice IMO if you're not going Aimpoint or EOTech or just looking to try something new. The 8T from Sig is legit. Really hard to find tho lol gl.
you're comparing a holographic sight, to a red dot sight.. they are two completely different operating methods. could be wrong here, but it came off that you have absolutely zero idea how the two different methods work.LED and laser diodes are two completely different aspects and require much different power to run them.
First time gun buyer who got an ar15 and this site the other day from sportmans. I paid full msrp only to find them 300 less online after the fact. Great site but kinda salty at myself for watching that much extra cash.
Vortex for $799? The most I ever seen them for was $599 and now you can get them all day for $499 vs eotech xps3 for $650 plus which I think is its closest competitor. This guy actually contradicts him self multiple times. I think I'll take advice from military guys with actual combat experience vs a school teacher.
Any plans of coming out with a green reticle version in the near future?
❤
@@jimmybrodriguez - we appreciate the kind words!
Don’t see any posts from eotech lol oh ya you never will.
How does this “takes a lot space from the gun” when this literally takes the same space as an Eotech EXPS3?
I was about to make this comment as well. I have a knock off version of this sight for my airsoft 416, Its beautifully replicated actually, and it seems big.. BUT when manipulating the rifle it goes unnoticed.
I have both. The Vortex is just simply more enjoyable to shoot in my humble opinion.
My gen 2 has phantom battery drain, has gone through a ton of lithium cr123s in one year with very little use. Sending into warranty
@@alexmacksey9257 all holos have parasitic battery drain. The diod in them draws power continously. Eotech will do it too.
You can't compare battery life on a holographic to a red dot. Completely different setups.
How do you think it more $$ than a comparable eotech ??? Just Oder one and it was 499.99 the eotech was $680
Prices given were retail of both which why I mentioned you can find both at street value for much cheaper
@@jimmybrodriguez I agree, I found my EoTech EXPS 3-0 at a store for 480 (which I did buy). Btw, I like your channel and content!
@@Mmmmbbbbaaaaakkkuuu I went back to my XPS 2-2 and I used the Vortex for 30 days to test it and I just just could not get used to the Vortex...
It’s a GREAT optic!!! Tough, reliable, intuitive. Have used mine for over five years without issues.
“Takes up too much space” same rail space as an EXPS
This vid is proof that these “me too” hypebeast guntubers truly have no good information to add.
Here's a recipe for a vortex mini Huey UH-M that solves those issues
1) push the housing back to the midway point of the optic
2) reduce the upper housing and window size by 5-7%
3) increase the fram rate by 15fps
4) add auto shut off with accelerometer (something eotech can't seem to figure out)
End result, less weight and bulk with comfortable window size, no more streaking/flashing reticle, increased battery life. Market it as the mini huey for $100 less. Steal the market 🤙
I agree with this 1000%
I really like my UH-1 g2.
You can always disable it lol
Shake awake is such an obvious need for optics. The technology is here, it should be on everything, scopes, holographics, RDS, everything
I believe there is still a patent on that technology, which is why more companies aren’t implementing it
Mrupp that would make sense...
Mrupp - well sig and holosun both have shake awake tech.
Street price you can usually find the uh-1 for $80-$100 cheaper than nv eotechs.
Yeah. We saw the gen 1 drop pretty low in price too. If we see the gen 2 do that too we could see it become a very appealing optic for a lot of people. Especially since the eotechs are price protected due to contracts.
Jim's Goon Life the price has always been $500 street price...
Yeah/nah, bro. Bought them all and love this one. Disagree with your review which I found truly subjective and/or borderline on some points - but appreciated the peaceful style. Thanks,
I'm with T. Bone the street price is $499. Try finding a brand new Eotech for for that price.
TheLogitech91 I bought my EXPS 2-0 for 539 at my gunstore, brand new
STEPHEN ROCHA XPS-2 isn’t night vision capable.
BradyBird38 I know, being a stickler but he just said “a” Eotech. NV to NV model this is cheaper for sure haha
STEPHEN ROCHA oh for sure, have ya watched garand thumbs video on this optic? He gets more in depth on the technology
BradyBird38 not yet, started a new job and have to watch my UA-cam off the clock now haha, I’ll check it out though!
You do realize it’s the exact same length as an xps2 right? It’s also a bit thinner overall.
I really like the Gen 2 Huey. Now if battery life is your thing most high end red dots now run for 50,000 hours (or 5 years) then a holographic sight cannot compete. But the dot on a holographic sight is superior! A
2 MOA red dot magnified by a 3x magnifier creates a 6 MOA dot.
You got me with that intro. Subbed
I agree, this is my favorite optic especially with the new vortex mini magnifier in front of it.
Rocco Cardarelli also the package is better, it’s lighter and has a way better fov than EOTech.
I have bad vision. Which would you recommend.
They’ve fixed the thermal drift issue
Thanks for posting a legitimate review with your experiences. None of these were deal breakers for me purchasing this optic but I'm glad to know beforehand. I often see/read amazing reviews of optics and am let down when they arrive. I subscribed and hope to see more of these candid reviews in the future!
I am completely shocked. I love my Gen 2 and even my Gen 1 Huey. I actually rate them along with my Eotechs. No kidding, the optics perform flawlessly. Its a fantastic optic.
have you compared the warranties between them? take a quick look, Vortex all day over Eotech.
is it ok to use a Laser with a Holographic sight? ...Or would they totally just be pointless together?
Just wanted to ask if those SWAT team members weren't running eotechs what were they running?
I know this is an old video but the Gen 2 has an auto shutoff after so many hours. I believe it is in the booklet.
For the price I will stick with EO. But if the price dropped down to the $400 range like the Gen 1 did, I will be all over it. BTW I change my EO battery pretty much around every 10 months which is great considering I change my RMR and Aimpoint every 12month. YMMV
Yeah, if the street price comes down on the Gen 2 it could become a very appealing optic for a lot of people
Did the price on the eotech go up over 2020? I got my tan exps 3-0 for 528 dollars in late 2019 and now they are 700??
Got to shoot mine finally today. This thing was amazing clear and on point.
The EoTech is $150 more than the UH-1 and always has been. "Worth the extra money" ROFL
MY PROS FOR VORTEX
I don't understand why you keep comparing it to LED RDSs. That is apples & oranges. The only other holographic RDS and the only other comparable optic is Eotech.
I own both, a Eotech 552 & a AMG UH-1 GEN 2.
VORTEX PROS:
#1 The Eotech with its shell/double wall is twice as thick and it is slightly more obstructive than the "tunnel" effect of the Vortex IMO.
MY BOTTOM LINE:
Eotechs & Vortex AMGs are the only holographic RDS offerings available.
How does this compare to an eotech while not caring about battery life.
Well it answered my question
Out of curiosity, in regards to the Eotech’s SWAT stop using, which gen were they?? Good Video!! Love My Eotech!!
Both old and new. But they said they EOTech was good about getting them fixed/replaced. They just didn’t like that they were getting a variety a problems without warning and could t risk the liability. However I’ve had the opposite experience, zero problems with mine.
Jim's Goon Life Gotchu - mine has been rock solid!!
I've had nothing but issues out of my gen1. I need to get around to getting it replaced.
How’s the blue tint compared to the gen 1? The eotech has crystal clear glass and the uh1 just felt super blue in comparison
Gen 2 is better than gen one, but still has a slight tint, definitely more than my Eotech.
Blue tint helps reflect that red light back at you, helps with battery life
I have one question.
You are comparing petty stuff. Makes me wonder if you do the same with that hairdo in the mirror when combing it🤣
I just buy one and here in France the price is really differenciating, the vortex is around 700Eur when the cheapest XPS is 1200Eur
Good review. I love both of my uh-1’s. Gen 1 & 2. Run great. Don’t have an eotech to compare to
When you say those swat guys had eotechs "go dead" on them do you mean the battery died or the optic actually failed/broke? If it was the battery that just seems irresponsible on their part.... by design holographic sights will always have shorter battery life than normal red dots. If you choose to put one on a duty weapon and then fail stay on top of it knowing that battery life is limited on holo optics then thats not Eotechs fault.
Does the reticle on the vortex look "fuzzy" like the eotech?
Great video, still torn,,, eotech, MRO or this huey for new (first) ar pistol build...maybe something else to consider?
I’ve owned eotech in the past, but I’ve switched all three of my AR’s to MRO HD (2) and the HUEY (1). I wouldn’t buy anything other than those two.
Any experience with the leupold lco? Seems like a better version of this vortex. Has shake awake
About time. I feel like for the longest only Holosun and Sig were using the shake-awake stuff. It really should be in every optic.
In my mind from what I’ve read on the Huey Gen2 this optic is meant to be beaten up and is an mid to far range holo sight that has cqb capacities.
Thank’s for the honest review man! I can see the work you put into it. A lot of well thought out issues you found. Great video as always!
Thanks. I know not everyone is going to be happy with what I said
Im pretty sure most places people are buying optics its just straight up cheaper than a 3-0. It's like as expensive as a 2-0
It’s not a red dot, it’s a holographic sight.
Once purchased you will always have a working Vortex optic for the rest of your life. Period*
I'm running Eotech now, and have for years..Was contemplating switching, thinking this was a big upgrade.. Hmmmm...
Big upgrade would not be how I would describe it
Judging from the review you would've been half right, it is in fact BIG.
These things are selling for nowhere near the MSRP more like $500
Mine is for sale right now. Should've bought the Eotech.
Curious as to why you said this.
I would have to agree! Vortex is a great company and is in my backyard. Vortex cares about their customers and that’s what matters most.
So if the battery lives are 1000 vs 1500 hours thats a 50% increase...
Would expect that to be a nice improvement?
Yes, it would be a substantial improvement but it is still not confirmed by Vortex yet so it’s hard to say definitely that it is.
@@jimmybrodriguez I wouldn't throw it under the bus then just yet.
Not throwing it under the bus, as I stated in the video it is a good optic, but there just isn’t anything about it, for me, that would lead me to ditch any of my current optics for it.
"Drop it off the parking garage like the SRO"
Too soon. F
If you’re looking for a bad time let me take your expensive stuff to the top of this parking garage
I prefer the T2 on my main rifle, and I run rmrs on my hand guns, I had an eotech and sold it, but get what you like and what works for you, cant fault you for being honest.
Yes! It’s ultimately about what works best for you.
Solid! Curious, what camera, lens and lighting do you use?
Fount it at $399. Snag one, or pass?
I love mine period
Ummm 🤔 Holosun calls that “Shake awake.”
You know he didn't want to choice the 2. Hard to justify the price for most folks
What is a tubing effect?
Think he means like tunnel vision. Like you're looking through a tube/straw.
Own the Gen 2....never realized the tubing effect. Think more of mind over matter by this guy.
@@XiaoPP1 so you like the UH1? I’m thinking if we get a 2G stimulus check then I’ll get an AR with this. It’s a little cheaper than an EOTech with a better warranty. Merry Christmas
Guaranteed you aren't talking to anyone in your intro.
I like that body type optic I prefer the holosun 512c
Similar! I was debating between this and the holosun 512C and I went with the 512C.
Jeremiah D do you mind sharing why? I’m deciding which one to go with
Fishskyn I chose the 512C for price I got mine for $300 and because I do have astigmatism. I looked through a Holosun 510C at my local turners outdoorsman and it was supper crisp and clear. I still haven’t gotten a chance to look through an eotech or huey yet but I would like to to see how my astigmatism effects the sight.
They cost 500 haven’t seen one for sale that was more than 500
Street price is cheaper than retail/listed price
Jim's Goon Life right..... so why would use that against vortex if no one is gonna pay that... lmao seems so backwards.
Excited for the patches! Appreciate the honesty of the review, you gonna swap back to the eotech now or swap to a good red dot?
Just found your channel and subscribed
Sig Romeo 8T is a better choice IMO if you're not going Aimpoint or EOTech or just looking to try something new. The 8T from Sig is legit. Really hard to find tho lol gl.
You were made for this. Amazing video, as always!
Vortex should have a long term shutoff function..
This GOON likes EVERYTHING about Vortex and then gives you the BUT. He enjoys playing devils advocate, more than giving you a realistic critique.
You were way off on pricing men , I got mine for 400.00 new
Prices listed were retail. That’s why I mentioned street pricing being different depending where you look.
HUGO ALVAREZ where did you find a UH-1 Gen 2 for $400?
TSAFE Defender Outdoor out of Texas .
@@BossHugo84 Thanks!
How did you pay 799 for the uh 1 when its 499 on optics planet.
you're comparing a holographic sight, to a red dot sight.. they are two completely different operating methods. could be wrong here, but it came off that you have absolutely zero idea how the two different methods work.LED and laser diodes are two completely different aspects
and require much different power to run them.
Don’t be a jerk. It’s his opinion.
@@guyspadorcio384 lmfao, how am I being a jerk, by calling out the obvious?
