First time purchase of a crossbow. I always read the directions and search for videos. I installed the cable slide upside down, I caught as I was tightening the screws. I appreciated the video but it didn't cover the slide installation at all.
Yes, I have had some of the same problems. Sometimes the directions are so unclear I hate to declare what I do as being the correct way, but I did do a second vid on this xbow and I felt more comfortable offering up my opinion on the slide installation in this one. LINK - ua-cam.com/video/2Epmr_9ddcM/v-deo.html I say opinion because I still feel the directions leave a lot for the user to figure out on their own. Sorry the first vid wasn't more helpful, KPO.
Just bought this bow. I went in and to get the 405 boss but today they were out so I just bought the lethal 405. I love it...except one thing, the stock. I liked the adjustable stock on the boss, but my God I hate this lethal stock. Other than that I think it’s perfect. Might see if I can return and buy the boss though for this reason.
I agree, I could see where someone might get their fingers in the way shooting it. If you think about shooting a gun and how you hold it. Sure it’s common sense but if you’ve got a nice buck in front of you you’re adrenaline is flowing. I’ve never shot one but I could see it happening.
Good review! The sound/vibration dampeners should help with the noise you were picking up in the video when you shot it each time. Cat whiskers maybe, then you worry about speed dropping very slightly. Shoot straight and stay safe! Good luck out there!
Well, it's 219.99 now on Bass Pro, not bad price; but would've been great if it was 199.99. Thank you for uploading this video, it is very appreciated.
You can uncooke that crossbow with your pull string it is very simple. People think you got to shoot them but that’s a bunch of hog wash. Don’t be afraid there’s is nothing to fear. You take your pull string put it on the bow string just like you would if your going to cock it . Except you run the string all the way to one side. pull Handel both 🪝 on both sides of the bow you hold one side up I use my right side then take your left hand put the bow safety on fire holding up the string firmly squeeze the trigger it will release the string and you can slowly uncoke your crossbow it’s very simple to do. But just like driving a car you must pay attention to what your doing. Ten points can be done this away too. Ravens wicked ridge too it’s all in the pull string and applying the right method.
Nice video! I’m not a compound crossbow user anymore. I have switched over to recurve like Excalibur and I like it much more. I don’t need to wax the string or rail every 5 shots, I don’t have to worry about the crossbow getting out of sync, i dont need to discharge a bolt at the end of a hunt without harvesting anything, I don’t need to worry about the string/cables fraying, I don’t have to worry about string creep. Most lower cost crossbow’s, especially ones with cams and wheels are only good to be used for maybe one season. I paid $749.99 for my MAG 340 as a backup bow and I can manage everything with the bow. I can change the strings, limbs, and adjust the string due to string creep. It always holds true and I never have to visit the bow shop. I also have an Excalibur Bulldog 440 that came with a silent crank and that bow chronos at 450FPS with the silencing gear on it. If you were to go hunting with this crossbow and the strings snap then your hunt is over. You get what you pay for. I would never ever buy a compound bow anymore but good video!
Yes I almost bought an Excalibur 7 years ago but wound up going with a Parker. I've been happy with it so far. But I understand the simplicity of the Excaliburs is attractive. KPO
i was playing with a friends pistol crossbow. a cheap low powered one. and i stuck my thumb up , it felt like it tore my thumb off. very painful. didn't do any damage. but i'd say that 210 lb bow would slice off any digit that got in the way
I purchased one yesterday and we've been having fun assembling it today. The instructions about rail lube I'm kind of unclear about how much lube to put in the cable slide. That seems to me where the string is crossing itself below the rail. I can only get a little lube on either of the outsides but nothing toward the center. Is that okay?
Have you had any problems with the lighter bolts it comes with? With 210lbs i was told i shouldn't shoot anything under 500 grains and they come with 370 grain bolts (including the weight of the tip)

@@KnettersPracticalOutdoors Something for you to think about. I was lined up with a great shot on a nice big doe but when I pulled the trigger my Barnett 400 exploded. I was so pissed I threw it out of the tree I was in. Barnett honored the warranty and sent me a new set of arms a with string. I was advised at that time not to leave it cocked longer then four hours max. Have a good day sir!
So far so good but we've only shot it 30-40 times. Check out this video also ua-cam.com/video/2Epmr_9ddcM/v-deo.html. My family bought 2 more and I learned a little more about set up, KPO.
So far so good. I've heard that with some of these fast xbows it's a good idea to go with a heavier arrow. The speeds are so fast and the arrows so light that it's on the hairy edge of a dry fire. And some speculate that's the reason for cracked limbs. And it is several manufacturers not just KI.
Any advice on why when I try to cock the bow the latch that is supposed to hold the string back isn’t doing what it’s supposed to do.. as in when I pull it back I’m using a little jump to give me more power it’s not trying to set
The trigger/latch mechanism could be broken. I'm not sure about the little jump part. If you are using a cocking rope, you should be able to smoothly pull the cocking rope back until the string latches. Otherwise you may need a crank mechanism to cock the bow. KPO
Maybe shorten that rope up about an inch or two it'll be a lot easier to draw back. And try drawing it back with the hooks facing up instead of down the reason for that is with the hooks facing down there's a tendency for them to jump up onto the rail.
Nice video! I would like to watch your next video entitled 70-degree deer season or something like that, but it won't let me play it, it says something about it being private.
I heard that the foot step on this crossbow broke during cocking on at least one occasion, causing the crossbow fly back and hitting the guy in the chest. What do you think about this part of crossbow?
can someone help me out, i bought this for my kid, and where you put the bolt there isnt that curved piece that holds the bolt in the channel, there is a small brush section, looks like a tooth brush, every photo ive seen, and video ive watched, the crossbow has that curved part, but not mine, was this something they changed at some point?
@@KnettersPracticalOutdoors Thanks for the response, after doing a little more digging I found that a lot of out of other crossbow companies are selling those calling those as an aftermarket add on, comma I'm just not a huge fan because the brush sits so far back on the bolt that the end of the bolt is able to move a little bit
i got one last year and i went with a heavier bolt/arrow-i read that the factory arrows are light to get speed but not so good on kinetic energy so i got mossy oak 20in 325gr and they seem to work better for me than the killer instinct hyperlite 270grain-goin w thunderhead 125gr over the 100gr for more punch-i tried 22in bolts but they didnt fly too good for me-
How I got one for free: ordered it for $294 + tax on eBay with CCD (seller wasn't Killer Instinct) but they never gave me any kind of receipt so I could register it. After contacting seller numerous times about this and then demanding refund seller never did directly communicate with me so I appealed to eBay; eBay gave seller 5 days to give me receipt or arrange for return and full refund or I get full refund and get to keep bow which is what happened when they again didn't respond. Unfortunately, on the same day the refund showed up on my banking app the cable in one of the cams started fraying (only had it about 2 weeks), so I went to Bass Pro Shop and bought a Barnett XP 380 with CCD in store for $349 + tax. I did get an extended warranty on the 405 so I'll probably fix the cable and get rid of it, I hate the trigger.
Junk my limbs cracked within 25 shots and Killer Instinct refuse to fix my limbs I had to argue with them for almost an hour on the phone They finally sent me a new front piece sold it went to X caliber been completely happy
I hate to hear that Matthew. So far we haven't had any problems with ours. I've seen mixed experiences with KI's customer service in videos and chat rooms. Some where totally happy and some were not. I'm sure that X caliber will last you a long time. KPO
I have 2 Excalibur's one of the Matrix Grizzly 305 with 6000 shots through her still going strong also have a MAG 340 Excalibur very happy customer service is amazing!!!
Is it loaded? Some won't come off safety unless loaded. Otherwise try recocking from the point it's at. Maybe it didn't engage totally. But be careful with whatever you try and don't let it dry fire. KPO.
I used the bolts that came with it. They say that some xbows with lighter bolts are at a near dry fire condition. So some say it's a good idea to use a little heavier bolts.
@@KnettersPracticalOutdoors Too funny, I hadn’t seen that one but I do pity anyone that makes that mistake. Hope you enjoyed deer season, I saw your bride killed one, good for her. How are those killer instinct xbows holding up? I ordered one last week and then started watching other videos on them, lots of broken limbs after about 40 shots it seems, any suggestions you may offer to help mine not become one of the statistics?

I’ve had mine for 3 years. Shot it a couple hundred times and killed 10 deer with it. The thing is awesome and super accurate . I did read about limbs breaking early on so I started shooting heavier bolts.
Xbow safety... I got a picture on a trail camera of a guy walking along with one.... Cocked and his hand was holding it right across the rail.. On the top of the rail.. Arrow loaded as well...
Any chance i can get me a DIY target for this one? I barely find information regarding targets that'll do for crossbows, i might have been looking in the wrong places but i didn't find any information as to whether or not clothes, plastic or whatever stuffed in a bag are enough Problem is: i kinda doubt it, but i really don't want to spend like 70 bucks or more on something i might be able to build myself for a lot less 😩 I just started with the bow, 2 days ago in fact, and due to lack of target i couldn't use the crossbow, i have to stick with the bow for now
I stack 2 foam ones in front of my block target to help stop penetrating all the way thru, bolts go so far in it ruined fletching on 2 bolts bale of hay wrks too
Thank you so much for this and your other video on the 405. My kids just bought me one a few weeks ago from basspro. I have no experience with crossbows, so your videos are very helpful. What do you think about the videos out there on decocking using the cocking rope? I've been trying to find the silent crank but can't find it anywhere!
I've never decocked a xbow. I've always shot them to unload. I need to buy a crank also. We got 405s for my wife and daughter too (LINK ua-cam.com/video/2Epmr_9ddcM/v-deo.html ) and they can't cock them with the rope. When I get the crank I'll do a video on it. Also check out my full xbow playlist if interested LINK ua-cam.com/play/PLksX0m4wrQHwtboy75o64oBtUhOOtChud.html Thanks for watching, KPO.
How I decock is : click safety off, remove bolt, apply cocking rope and hold securely (exactly how you normally cock to load) while your partner pulls the trigger.... release the pressure slowly and steadily. I have attempted to decock using the crank and the crank string broke, causing almost a dry fire and me almost poopin pants lol... never attempted that again. Great video, thanks!!
I just bought mine, and for some reason I cannot pull the string back to cock it more than maybe 6 inches? Its really hard, am I doing something wrong? Or what the heck, I'm really frustrated ... does anyone else have this problem? Is there a way to loosen it up maybe?
I've never hunted for those, but the speed is right up there with some of the faster crossbows. Of course skill level is a factor with any archery hunting. KPO
Since this video I have assembled 2 more. None of the ones I bought have a red cable slide. I did a second video that explains the cable slide install better. The directions are terrible, but I think I got it right. Here's a link if interested - ua-cam.com/video/2Epmr_9ddcM/v-deo.html Thanks, KPO.

Here is a link to that vid - ua-cam.com/video/2Epmr_9ddcM/v-deo.html It's just my interpretation of those crappy directions. I hope it helps. KPO
Rail lube and string wax are NOT the same. Rail lube is much thinner and basically turns into an oil when you rub it on the rail or flight deck. String wax is much thicker and stickier for use on strings only. I've been selling bows and crossbows at Bass Pro Shops for over 12yrs....just say'in
You know I agree. That was how I was shown by a dealer when I bought my first crossbow. But the "stick" they give you in the package is referred to as "rail lube" and they say to apply it to the string and rail. Maybe it's just a cheaper way to have one product do both, but I agree with you. Prior to buying this package I always used the light oil on the rail and wax on the strings. KPO
@@KnettersPracticalOutdoors Hello from Scotland, regarding lubricant, been using crossbows for a long time and I always use baby oil, works perfect, keeps strings and rails from drying out and cheap as chips. All the best.
Yea I thought so...I've noticed this lately they tend to say its the same. I have both for my adder and a custom pistol I have that has 140ib limb and other souped up goodies. But its obvious how different they are. One is "tacky" the other "slippery".

@@KnettersPracticalOutdoors good question. I don't know. the free healthcare gives you peace of mind, but it's not high quality and it's not really free.
Maybe you should make the video more realistic and show how difficult it is putting it together and most of all how hard it is to cock! This crossbow is not for anyone that does not have very strong and I mean very strong upper arm and body strength! you wont cock it more than a few times in a row!
Yes, here you go. Here is a link to a video that shows how some shooters will need the cocking crank. In the video that your comment is in, my son didn't need it so I didn't mention it.
Thanks for adding in, KPO.
I agree, I could see where someone might get their fingers in the way shooting it. If you think about shooting a gun and how you hold it. Sure it’s common sense but if you’ve got a nice buck in front of you you’re adrenaline is flowing. I’ve never shot one but I could see it happening.
It happens, KPO.
It’s on sale at cabalas now. Originally like 350 on sale for 199. Just checking some videos to see if it’s worth buying
And that one comes with the crank!
Good review! The sound/vibration dampeners should help with the noise you were picking up in the video when you shot it each time. Cat whiskers maybe, then you worry about speed dropping very slightly. Shoot straight and stay safe! Good luck out there!
Thanks, KPO.
Well, it's 219.99 now on Bass Pro, not bad price; but would've been great if it was 199.99.
Thank you for uploading this video, it is very appreciated.
No problem! Also check this out if you have this xbow ua-cam.com/video/jOhomUDhpzQ/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/2Epmr_9ddcM/v-deo.html
Thanks for adding in, KPO.
Shot mine about 10 time and killer instinct had to send me a new scoop because the red and blue wouldn’t light up anymore, no other problems out of it
At least they were good for it, KPO.
Can hear the 906 in dere hey buddy
Missed one at 60 yards with the compound today now I'm on UA-cam looking at crossbows lol
You have a good ear Cheyenne! (central U.P.) Sorry about that miss. It happens sometimes. Let me know how it goes if you get a crossbow, KPO.
KPO
i was playing with a friends pistol crossbow. a cheap low powered one. and i stuck my thumb up , it felt like it tore my thumb off. very painful. didn't do any damage. but i'd say that 210 lb bow would slice off any digit that got in the way
Ouch, you were lucky
I purchased one yesterday and we've been having fun assembling it today. The instructions about rail lube I'm kind of unclear about how much lube to put in the cable slide. That seems to me where the string is crossing itself below the rail. I can only get a little lube on either of the outsides but nothing toward the center. Is that okay?
Definitely get lube in there even if you need to use some kind of applicator.
Have you had any problems with the lighter bolts it comes with? With 210lbs i was told i shouldn't shoot anything under 500 grains and they come with 370 grain bolts (including the weight of the tip)
I'm hearing the heavier bolts are easier on the limbs. I haven't had problems yet.
Just discovered this channel! Love it!
Welcome to the channel my friend! Looking forward to hearing more from you. Thanks for watching, KPO.
@@KnettersPracticalOutdoors hope you and your family are surviving the crazy times😂

CenterPoint Sniper XT390 Crossbow Package
Killer Instinct Lethal 405 Crossbow Package
MTECH USA DX-70
I bought one love it.Sweet cross bow
Awesome!
With this crossbow is there a time limit on how long you can leave it cocked? With my Barnett 400 I can only leave it cocked 4 hours max. Thank you!
I'm not too hardcore with the time I sit out hunting, 3-4 hours. So I guess I never really thought about having it cocked longer than that. KPO
@@KnettersPracticalOutdoors
Something for you to think about.
I just bought one online and I was wondering if it was still running well for you?
So far so good but we've only shot it 30-40 times. Check out this video also ua-cam.com/video/2Epmr_9ddcM/v-deo.html. My family bought 2 more and I learned a little more about set up, KPO.
How well is this holding up? I’ve read about some issues with the limb cracking.
KPO
Is safety off when you cock it? if not it's supposed to b
Maybe shorten that rope up about an inch or two it'll be a lot easier to draw back. And try drawing it back with the hooks facing up instead of down the reason for that is with the hooks facing down there's a tendency for them to jump up onto the rail.
Noted, thanks.
Nice video!
I would like to watch your next video entitled 70-degree deer season or something like that, but it won't let me play it, it says something about it being private.
I think it is fixed now, KPO.
I heard that the foot step on this crossbow broke during cocking on at least one occasion, causing the crossbow fly back and hitting the guy in the chest. What do you think about this part of crossbow?
It seems solid. Needs to be tightened down correctly for sure.
can someone help me out, i bought this for my kid, and where you put the bolt there isnt that curved piece that holds the bolt in the channel, there is a small brush section, looks like a tooth brush, every photo ive seen, and video ive watched, the crossbow has that curved part, but not mine, was this something they changed at some point?
I've seen other xbows with that same tooth brush. I believe it serves the same purpose as the curved arm, to hold the bolt in place.
@@KnettersPracticalOutdoors Thanks for the response, after doing a little more digging I found that a lot of out of other crossbow companies are selling those calling those as an aftermarket add on, comma I'm just not a huge fan because the brush sits so far back on the bolt that the end of the bolt is able to move a little bit
i got one last year and i went with a heavier bolt/arrow-i read that the factory arrows are light to get speed but not so good on kinetic energy so i got mossy oak 20in 325gr and they seem to work better for me than the killer instinct hyperlite 270grain-goin w thunderhead 125gr over the 100gr for more punch-i tried 22in bolts but they didnt fly too good for me-
Yes, I've seen were the light bolts are thought to cause the limbs to break. Almost like a dry fire condition. Thanks for adding in.
Hope it all works out.
KPO

Just got mine today and cannot slide my quiver on if my life depended on it?? What am I doing wrong??
I've put wax on them to help, but I've always been able to get it on and off.

I explain it better in this video - ua-cam.com/video/jOhomUDhpzQ/v-deo.html
Just got this and I got it assembled and cocked it and ready to shoot. But I could not push the safety to fire. Any suggestion
Is it loaded? Some won't come off safety unless loaded. Otherwise try recocking from the point it's at. Maybe it didn't engage totally. But be careful with whatever you try and don't let it dry fire. KPO.
Thanks for the review God bless!
Thank you
Is this and the fiery 400 basically the same. I have the 400 an love it
Not sure
What bolts are you shooting will lite hyperx 18 inch 100 grain bolts be fine?
I used the bolts that came with it. They say that some xbows with lighter bolts are at a near dry fire condition. So some say it's a good idea to use a little heavier bolts.
I heard Ronnie Camaro got his fingers caught up in his crossbow. Is this true? How will this affect his burgeoning crawler empire?✌🏻

They do cock hard. You can buy an add on cocking crank or back off on the screws at the inner end of each limb. Don't go too far though. May want to watch some vids on this.
How are those killer instinct xbows holding up? I ordered one last week and then started watching other videos on them, lots of broken limbs after about 40 shots it seems, any suggestions you may offer to help mine not become one of the statistics?
I did another vid on them ua-cam.com/video/2Epmr_9ddcM/v-deo.html The directions in the box aren't very good when it comes to the cable slide. I wonder if people are getting this part wrong and causing problems. My second and third time through the assembly I think I'm getting it right, KPO.

I barely find information regarding targets that'll do for crossbows, i might have been looking in the wrong places but i didn't find any information as to whether or not clothes, plastic or whatever stuffed in a bag are enough
Problem is: i kinda doubt it, but i really don't want to spend like 70 bucks or more on something i might be able to build myself for a lot less 😩
I just started with the bow, 2 days ago in fact, and due to lack of target i couldn't use the crossbow, i have to stick with the bow for now

I got one a wk ago and use a field point to discharge mine after hunting
Composite rail? :(
Yes, the whole body is a composite.
