  • I was fortunate to spend time with the talented Owen Thomas at his woodland workshop in the county of Herefordshire in the West of England
    Owen is a full time professional green woodworker who’s speciality is spoon carving and bowl turning
    In this video Owen kindly teaches his entire process for carving a traditional Dolphin spoon which originates from neighbouring Wales

    Wow, I just stumbled upon this vid. as a fairly new learner and it answered about 90% of some serious issues I"m having, all by explanation and demonstration! Thanks so much Zed and Owen, can't say just how much I appreciated this! Man, that boy can certainly carve....phew!

    Another Excellent video, as well as the one on the Cawl spoon. Owen mentioned several nice tips like widest part of the spoon should be the deepest and others. These are two videos I will watch again as they are very clear and concise teaching tools. Ordered a Cawl spoon from Owen to be a visual guide to aspire to in my carving.
    Thank you Owen and Zed, and for the templates as well.
    Cheers,

      So nice of you to support Owens work by purchasing one of his spoons and indeed yes I learnt lots by filming Owen, he's learnt from some of the best teachers in the UK so is a body of knowledge. As always Michael I appreciate your kind words and for watching ~Peace~

    Thank Zed and Owen. I can see i need some more practicing with my twca cam. I have only used my ordinary spoon knife on dolphin spoons so far. Twca cam is not an easy tool to master. Keep up the fantastic work Zed.

    Love the carving videos. Dose anyone ever use a kukri instead of a hatchet?

    • @Zedoutdoors
      @Zedoutdoors  5 років тому

      Thank you kindly Tom, at a push you could use a Kukri but it may get dangerous using that for the finer axe type cuts ~Peace~

    Great video, thanks for sharing.
    Please can you say what tools you used? I need to kit myself out as there are so many knives and axes to choose,

    • @Zedoutdoors
      @Zedoutdoors  5 років тому

      Hi John we did mention the names of the tools in the video, if you are starting out then the tools you choose all depends on your budget. As a general advise I would get a Mora 106 straight carving knife, Ben Orford spoon knife and a Robin Wood carving axe ...all these three are great tools for a budget ~Peace~

      Zed Outdoors ok great thanks!! And if I want to get tools of mid to premium quality? Living and training in the forest is my life. It gives me tremendous peace especially when working away from home and missing my family. I want to buy this weekend so will be grateful for advice again.
