This was a ridiculously helpful and well taught video and lesson Jason! Thank you very much, it is super appreciated and I have a feeling you just saved me hours and hours of my life in future editing time! Keep up the good work!
Thanks so much!! Yeah it really saves so much time editing!! :)
Great tutorial, well presented. Thanks
Glad it was helpful! Thanks :)
Great tutorial, thanks a lot! I have a srt subtitle that I've imported as it was professionally translated. How can I search that text ?
Clear, concise, many thanks!
Thanks - you're welcome! :) :)
Great tutorial, thank you so much!
You're very welcome! Thanks! :) :)
Great video, very and concise with lots of good information and tips. New subscribers, this was very helpful because I do a lot of takes/restarts when filming.
Awesome, thank you! Glad the video helped :) :)
This is exactly what I needed. Thank you!
Yay! So glad it was helpful - thanks :) :)
Very useful. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks :) :)
This is absolutely fantastic, thank you Jason!
Quick question though.
Can you use F9 vs dragging and dropping for any text highlighted?
This is amazing! Definitely will use this from now on.
Yay! :) :)
Thank you so much!
You're welcome! Thanks :) :)
Jason Roberts you about the coolest clearest classiest bro out here. Thank you so much for such a clear video
Wow!!!! That's so kind of you to say so! - Thanks :) :)
Very helpful. Is it possible to use text based editing for multicam clips?
Thank you so much for this, I am now going to be up all night editing clips :)
Haha - no worries! Glad to help :)
Beautiful thank you.
Thank you too! :) :)
Very good, thank you.
You're welcome :) :)
Very good explanation. I kept bringing in the deleted sections pushing f9. Was making me nuts. Now I need to figure out how to get the red playhead in the timeline to follow the text in the transcription. It would make snapping to the pieces I need to edit super fast.
Thanks - glad the video helped - this is such a timesaver!! :)
Love the way you explained it all. my only question was, when you did the multiple clips were they new clips or were they multiple clips you had already gone trough and then saved them?
Such a great, simple walkthrough showing all the necessary facts about the text based editing feature - *really* considering splashing out on the speed editor / licence combo just for the future savings in time it will give me - having just managed to finish and publish my first proper youtube video (after having «thought about it» for over two years) the one major time drain fro me in editing was keeping track of where and what I was saying, and seeing the video as a whole, quickly getting the flow of things was impossible, forcing me to watch and rewatch sections again and again to get a feeling for the flow. The text editing feature would make that whole process *soooo* much quicker.
I’m guessing the next feature they’ll include (or, they *should* include) will be the «rearrange the text»-editing mode, being able to restructure and move parts around and *then* committing it to the timeline will be such a killer feature :)
Hey thanks so much for the thanks :) Yeah «rearrange the text»-editing mode would be so cool :)
@@JasonRobertsVideo Well deserved, the video was super clean and to the point :) I’ve just started publishing «proper» vids on youtube now and using Davinci Resolve since I now have got a powerful enough laptop to run it, so I’ve been binging through your quick tip videos on different features to get my editing speed up and running, love those short, to-the-point videos on the basics of the main timeline features :)
That's great to hear and glad my vids are helping :)
Great intro to text-based editing, thanks - I need to watch again and then actually try it out soon. (I have Studio version).
Reading another comment below I have same issue with iPhone 13 Pro Max footage - always seems very washed-out when I bring it into DR 18.5 (my other cameras - Sony A6600 and GoPro10 look much better in DR). (No color grading yet).
Thanks, glad it was helpful! I don't have an iPhone 13 Pro Max so can't comment but if the footage is just rec 709 out of the phone it should look fine, is it's not rec 709 then you might have to do some color space transform to get it to a more pleasing image
Super helpful and very efficiently laid out - thank you! I was wondering about a workflow with multiple long form clips, like for a feature documentary with 10 multi-cam interviews that you want to intercut, is there a workflow for that or should I turn to third party apps like Descript Reduct (for Premiere). Thanks for any thoughts.
Hi, I haven't used Descript so I can't comment. Resolve 19 has some transcript improvements coming like speaker recognition and some other enhancements so maybe wait for 19 to see if it fits your needs :) :) What are you needing to do?
Hey! Can you make a video on how to install the StoryToolKitAI for DaVinci Resolve on Windows and how with this tool we can convert audio to text with Whisper in DaVinci?
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll add it to my list, sounds like it would be a fun video to make :)
This was incredibly helpful! Here I thought apps like Descript were ahead of Davinci, but I'm pleasantly surprised that's not true =)
Glad it was helpful! There are some more improvements/refinements in v19 as well :) :)
¡Gracias!
Wow - thanks so much!!!! Hope you have a great day!! :)
Would anyone mind sending me an export of any Resolve trascription? I would love to see the format and what it includes and does not include in the xml or csv or whatever file. I've got some ideas in mind that involve using the text and time stamps. Thanks!
Hello! I'm curious about this feature and I was wondering if this is part of the free version of davinci or if it's only available in davinci resolve studio? Thanks for the tutorial!
Thanks and you're welcome - I think it might only be in paid studio version.
This is good stuff. Very well done tutorial. Imagine listening to someone talking in real life but never hear the pauses of them take a breath of air. 3:31 Would you ever feel concerned for them? Then there is this youtube trend of keeping people with short attention spans attention by removing fractions of a second of natural breathing. 4:53 Can someone help me understand please? I'm genuinely curious. Otherwise there are a lot of good tips here. Thank you for that.
Thankyou :) Editing out breath is unfortunately part of the UA-cam thing to try and get better retention times when people click off because the video is taking too long. I always struggle with this because it does sound more natural keeping the breaths in.
Is this available only in the Studio Version? Because it showed me the following message: " You reached a limitation with DaVinci Resolve " . Anyways.. thanks a lot for your simple & straight to the point video! I thought the DaVinci Resolve interface is way more complicated than it actually is🤣.. But I can get used to it.
Glad you liked the vid - I think it might be in paid version only.
Hi, is the text basedd feature of Davinci faster than premiere pro? I am really disappointed with premiere nowadays
Resolve 19 is going to have improved text based editing like speaker recognition and other improvements. :) :)
Is this available in the iPad studio version yet? If so its worth me buying the iPad studio version
Not sure about the iPad version, sorry.
No worries, Thank you for responding.@@JasonRobertsVideo
How can i add my text edits to the timeline when the whole clip is already in the timeline?
You could remove the whole clip, transcribe, then re add if that's what you need??
I want to buy DR Studio, but still wanna make sure if this option can delete filler words or not? please inform me...
it can remove silences and it works ok most of the time but not 100% every time. It is still faster and hopefully we will get some more control options in the future.
@@JasonRobertsVideo so no filler words removal ?
Don't think so no
Whoa is this a free tool in devinci resolve?
It's built into DaVinci Resolve Studio - it's getting better with v19 :) :)
I was getting excited about this one, until I realised it is part of the studio version, I’ve not made that jump, yet. Here’s a possible topic to cover; As a new Davinci user on a budget all my footage has been shot on GoPro or iPhone, rather than higher end cameras. Just to make things more interesting, all footage was recorded while cycling, how do you handle balancing the sound across the project and manage the colour balancing when the cameras have there own custom colour space.
Hi Graham, thanks for the video idea, don't have a phone bike mount at the moment but that would be an interesting experiment :)
so, I can not move text around in DaVinci and it also moves the video like premiere does?
Sorry I don't understand.
It is about changing the order of the content. But is working in the beta version 19 pretty well.
Cool hopefully the beta will go to a full release soon :) :)
I tried to use this function for an edit i shot on 2 cams and it was driving me crazy.
No reasonable way to go. Why the hell didn´t they make it possible to control the position of the timeline cursor by clicking on the text...? (rocket science??)
Tried the multicam mode (which i dont like it by the way), and it also did not work because da vinci was not able to handle the clips. one cam was showing black, only showing video the last minute.
da vinci is so stupid sometimes...have you tried the text based editing in premiere? much better...
Sorry to hear you're having so much difficulty - I'm sure the text-based editing will continue to get better and better over time. All the best, Jason.
See, in my professional world it doesn’t work that way. The slower I edit, at 65 bucks an hour, the more money I make. What’s the hurry?
Could you edit faster, increase you hourly rate to compensate, delight your clients by delivering faster, and at the same time be able to take on more projects in a year which will also increase you income?
Could I? Maybe. Do I want to? Not really. And sometimes editing isn’t about how fast you can push buttons, sometimes it’s about being thoughtful and thinking about it before you take those next few steps. Put it this way, I’ve been editing for a lot a lot years, and I’ve never had an unhappy client yet. @@JasonRobertsVideo
@@2424rocketi really havnt seen this take before. Nice way to look at it. I'll be starting to take more time think now. ❤
