    This was the first game I saw Newcastle play when I was 7 years old with my dad. Left the stadium crying my eyes out and this old man comes up to me and hands me his NUFC beanie. Still have it to this day and I will never forget amongst the chaos and disappointment this single act of kindness. Stay good everyone

      First game I remember was England losing to West Germany in Italia 90. Was 6 and in tears, I remember my dad saying we'll beat them next time. Took 10 years but Big Al scoring the winner in 2000 was worth it.

      @@goonerizm probably because I couldn’t comprehend the betrayal of my first ever NUFC match! Still one of the most frustrating games to watch live as a Newcastle fan, but hilarious in retrospect. Dyer wasn’t passing to Bowyer all game. Constantly. It was infuriating. The refereeing was shocking in general apart from the two main incidents. Still, Steve Taylor’s red card after being shot by that sniper was v.harsh.

      kieran completely agree, I much prefer the championship these days, you already know what the top 6 will be come May in the prem, the last 4 title races have been boring, the worst Everton team in over 15 years finished 8th last season, money on transfer fees is out of control, social media has played it's part as well. United vs Arsenal games are no longer special, football has changed, and while you have to evolve and some of the change has been good, a lot of it has ruined the game I feel.

      Being a Liverpool fan, as much as I do not appreciate Souness as a manager (he practically caused the downfall of Liverpool), this was not his or Kieron Dyer's fault. This was all Lee Bowyer and if you are a volatile aggressive person, no man management can possibly control it. I think Graeme did well in getting them to make a statement immediately after the game which seems like a no-brainer but was a great piece of damage control that most other managers would not have had the foresight, sense or ability to get done

      @portcullis5622 6 років тому +11

      I seem to remember that when Souness was the manager at Southampton, he sent on a substitute (in a Premier League match against Leeds) that wasn't actually a Southampton player, just some random bloke (Ali Dia) that happened to turn up after pretending to be George Weah's cousin and playing in the lower divisions of The French and German leagues! He was so bad that Souness had to take him off after 40 mnutes, and it transpired that he had failed a trial with Blyth Spartans. Pure Sunday morning pub league stuff!

    We like to criticise VAR, but it would definitely have changed this match.

    One of the best away days I've ever had! I remember just seeing a big scuffle and thinking "oh fuck, what has Lee Hendrie done now!?" Can't believe Souness trying to argue that the referee was partly to blame 🤣

    Newcastle's defending has been consistent over the years. They have a very special style... very special.
