Lee Bowyer Kieron Dyer fight (full Match of the Day clip - Saturday 2nd April 2005)
This is a video recording of the original Match of the Day clip from the day when Newcastle lost 3-0 to Aston Villa, a match infamous for the fight between Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer after the third goal.
Yes i know it's bad quality - it's converted from VHS to DVD, it's the best i can do with no effort :)
The Newcastle-Villa match starts at 2:07
The fight is at 12:03
I love rewatching this clip - there are so many good parts, and it gives context to the boiling point that was reached on the pitch.
Newcastle had four decent penalty appeals, and all of Villa's goals are a result of shambolic defending.
Villa's second goal features a remarkable piece of acting from young Toon defender Steven Taylor (at 9:51), who tries to persuade the referee that the ball didn't hit his arm. Alas, his gambit failed.
And then Villa get another penalty for not much - the stadium must've been seething.
The commentator saying "a thoroughly miserable afternoon for Newcastle is completed"... little did he know!
Bowyer asks for a pass from Dyer, and again, and again, and then loses his rag. Dyer ain't taking that shit, but doesn't realise that Bowyer's mental - all hell breaks loose.
Shearer mouthing off at the referee 12:55
And then the reaction afterwards - the hastily convened press conference, starring Doris who knows that Sounness can't be kept waiting for his cup of tea (13:55), and then Gary, Alan and Mark discussing the incident.
Gary's voice breaking when he says "somebody at some stage has got to stand up for this sort of behaviour in football"
an all-time classic "wtf" day, recorded here for full posterity.

That press conference was definitely the manager dragging the two boys out there and going "you fucked up and you're going to apologize for it."
Get in there bowyer.... Dyer is a pussy
15:53 very important!
Now the jabbed support this modern dead football
Sus ref
Watched this live on TV when it happened and haven't seen it since then.. Rolls back the years this. April 2024 now.
was dyer trying to straighten Bowyers nose? Just being helpful.
We like to criticise VAR, but it would definitely have changed this match.
They both were not sorry. When they both apologized, they touched the side of their head.. Body language...
I totally understand where both players and manager are disappointed by there actions and don't get me wrong the way the two players were fighting on the pitch is a big no no understand frustration and angry with each other but to fight when there are crowds of people watching that is totally unacceptable behaviour and these playes need to have some respect for there team mates and there coaches and there fans and both need consequences both for there behaviour and actions because young kids and adults need to learn that this sort of behaviour is totally unacceptable and won't be tolerated at all but see it way to often especially in the premier league tbh
Shows how old this is when the opening credits show EIGHT teams that are no longer in the prem and haven't been for a number of years
it happens , no big deal , getting beat 3 nowt , tempers up , much ado about nothing
Who needs amateurs and clout-chasers such as AverageFan TV when you had honest fan cams and sheer drama like this 20 whole years ago?!!
Back when presenters used to dress well. Not like the scruffy casual wear they show up in today.
VAR would have overridden that 2nd pen, and possibly given Newcastle one. All these people moaning about it... looking back at this... Jesus.
12.15
it's 2024 and time for a rematch 🥊
Needs 1 more year for that spicy but rounded anniversary ^ ^
It's the cup of tea delivery i'll always remember 🤗
Footballers "fighting" is just pathetic. They should still to pretending they've been fouled and rolling on the floor at the slightest touch. Embarrassing
Newcastle fans paid to watch a game of football which ended up with a boxing match which they lost that too
12:16 to stop people watching too much BBC shite.
Newcastle was unlucky during the game . They were denied a couple of penalties. Boyer and dyer played very good . Boyer was a headcase but this match and this referee tested his limits
Remember when all footballers weren't all ponces? Good memory if you do.
VAR should have looked at that handball by Mellberg.
A fight . Football handbags
What a pair of wusses
Clever...History records it 3-0 with 8 men....Doesn't look too bad on the accounts then
Comedy gold 🤣
I lived in Newcastle for four years and this was the only match I saw at St James' Park.
Joke is you can't even buy that kind of passion nowadays 🤣🤣
Steven Taylor forever grateful that this match will never be known as the Steven Taylor goalkeeper game.
I remember this game from years ago!
Lee Bowyer always was a nasty little thug
really professional, LOL!! The madness...
19 yrs later and I still find the commentary from Gary Lineker hilarious… 🤣🤣🤣
Bowyer was a thug on and off the field.
As a Villa fan, we rode our luck that day. Newcastle could've had at least 2 penalties of their own and our 2nd one was never a penalty. Foul happened outside the box. The game will always be remembered for that fight though 🙂
I love how the two are acting like scolded children at the press conference 😅
I remember all the players. These days I hardly know any of them.
Where´s Zlatan, Roy Keane and Vinny Jones to stop them? Damn
18:06 Come on, what you gonna do about it?... Well, this is what we're gonna do about it..... 😂😂😂
Craig Leviene of hearts knocked out his team mate with one punch seen it in scotland
I realise that this was only TV highlights but from what I saw as an independent viewer the best player for Villa was the one in BLACK
Seems strange to see three clean shaven men on tv, they all seem to have beards these days 😊
I think the weird , circular pitch design hypnotized them...
thought it was wavey interference from an old tv signal at first...
Both players seemed to want to end their post match statements with 'but he's a proper c***t'
Bowyer was basically a thick and even less talented version of Joey Barton.
Can't be the only one who at 15:05 thought he was gonna blame Paul Pogba.
Typical Sounness trying to deflect problems on to the ref. He really was a crap manager.
This has to be the absolute worst refereeing I've seen in my entire life.
And people complain about VAR
