I had a solid 22K Gold Omega Seamaster AUTOMATIC with a SPIEDEL band. It was a gift to my late DAD in 1967. I inherited it. Wore it at my wedding and other special occasions. Only flaw in my watch? The "crystal" wasn't scratch resistant! It buffed out nicely but it was an annoyance to have to make periodical trips to the jeweler. It was, sadly STOLEN in a break in I suffered several decades ago. I REALLY miss that watch! It ran perfectly even after YEARS of inactivity in a safe deposit box. Does OMEGA still make these and can they be acquired in the full GOLD CASE version today? Thanks! PS: REALLY enjoy your link/website! CAN'T believe such a young man is SO informed on these retro-mechanical watches. Really, really appreciate your knowledge and reports!#####
Love the VC Overseas. Too bad that it's that expensive. On another note, could we have your opinion on the recent "scandal" regarding Rolex AD's and what it might mean for the future of not only Rolex but for other brands?
Dude you might wanna have a look at the Casio a1000 series they have that retro casio look to them but they're made of stainless steel, and there are some different variations. A star by itself is a totally innocent logo. All sorts of countries, cities, regions and companies use stars in their flags, coats of arms or logos. The USA, the self-declared most anti-communist country in the world, has 50 (!) stars in its flag. New Zealand, a democratic country that could not be further away from totalitarianism, even has red stars on its flag forming the Southern Cross constellation. So to associate the logo of a profit-oriented luxury goods manufacturer from one of the most capitalist countries on earth and that was founded over 50 years before the Soviet Union, is pretty silly. Don't you think?
Never been a fan of the nautilus. I dream to own a Royal oak day. But for now, after lots of thinking, finally pulling the trigger on Prx quartz next week. The collecting journey begins.
@@RA-lc5ed I love it, can dress it up or down, a perfect balance between dress and sports watch. Has a luxurious feel and decent water resistance as well....
@@MrCoachab Excellent, thanks for your response! Is the clasp solid? There are not too many reviews on this watch but some criticise the clasp for being slightly flimsy?
@@RA-lc5ed personally I don’t understand what they are talking about, maybe they’re talking about when the clasp is off wrist IDK, but it is quite solid on wrist, the watch isn’t going no where on wrist that’s for sure.... I’ve also seen reviewers say the little balls that lock the clasp are plastic when they’re really ceramic... this is my 2nd Tudor watch and the clasps feel about the same... they lock into place and you don’t have to break your finger or fingernails to unlock the clasp....
Another issue is that the dial reading should be correct which is easy when we know the location of the time in the dial such as the 12 3 6 9 and the other numbers, the crown towards the right to be assumed as 3 or the new Seiko the crown is at 4
I agree with you Teddy. I wanted the Panda ceramic Daytona. Yes I know, it’s the biggest hype watch in the history or hype watches. But I didn’t care, it’s that one watch that I wanted. I bought it last month. I wear it every day, and in 20 years time it will pass down to my son who is currently 3 years old. And in the meanwhile every photo that he and I take together will have me wearing that watch. One day he will have this watch and every memory he has of his childhood will include this watch. Hype watch? Don’t care. It’s gorgeous. And it will be his birthright
Amazing video. Why did you miss out on Omega Constellation, Piaget Polo and GP Laureato infinity options. Alternative to PP cannot be a Tissot or Tudor just cause it’s got integrated bracelet
Tissot are dropping an automatic PRX with 80-hour power reserve this summer (at least in the UK)! Has a waffle dial instead of the smooth quartz dial too.
For me, there are two options that are more close to the Patek Phillipe Nautilus: One is the Piaget Polo, and the other is the Victorinox INOX Mechanical model 241835. Besides, I think the Tissot PRX looks more to the Vacheron Constantine Overseas than the Patek Phillipe Nautilus.
Actual alternative for nautilus is Piaget Polo S. Simular shape, very same looking bracelet, same blue striped dial, same brushed bezel. If you are not very close its so easy to mistake them.
Thankfully I purchased my VC Overseas a few weeks ago as the blue dial is now application only and the black dial is about to follow suit. Get one while you still can is my advice.
I've been waiting for the Tudor Royal to show up in stores here. I am on several lists to view them when they come in, nothing yet. Are they available anywhere? Nice ideas for options BTW Teddy, thanks.
Don't forget the Frederique Constant Highlife. Interesting, original design that is entirely Swiss made with in-house movements. You can get a perpetual calendar for under $9,000 with the often-offered discounts at ADs
Can't afford Patek, go for Vacheron. Jk. IMO, Tissot is the best entry level watch brand. Maurice Lacroix does beautiful finishing as well and their dials look great. Good suggestions in this video.
May I suggest another alternative that came out most recently, it's the Series 8 Automatic collection from CITIZEN. It won't be available to purchase until Fall 2021, but have great specs and prices just from $1000 to $2000.
in JP (not sure other boutiques around the world), VC has stopped a pre-order since middle Feb 2021. Waiting list for Overseas blue-dial is crazy here.
I think the last is better then any of the others. VC's finnishing (😆) is better than anyone else. It is though there is already a patina on the watch.
Maurice Lacroix Pontos Day/Date (‘19,’20 and ‘21 years) smoky grey sunburst dial with rose gold hands and appliqués gets studied looks without the AP comparisons.
Hi, Teddy. I hope you are well. Talking about the Overseas, I have seen the prices of the blue dial steal one increasing drastically lately. (I also bought my Seiko SRPE57 after seeing the budget video you ended up buying it from Kohl's in I believe? As soon as I saw the shots in that video, I knew exactly what my first Automatic Watch would be... Wish the Bracelet wasn't such a POS, but eh... Live and learn)
EDIT:
And I also really appreciate what you said right off the bat here... As somebody who's yet to purchase a higher-end "Luxury" Watch...as I'm just getting into all of this as MUCH more than "just an accessory" or "JUST a way to tell time" etc... Who has fallen in love with the Grand Seiko "Snowflake" (SBGA211), but started to stumble upon (NON-Grand) Seikos which are quite similar, at least as far as design/finishing goes (SJE073, and even the SARX033/055) to a pretty far extent... I've been a bit torn.
But your Video on the Spring Drive Movement is really what sold me on a GS Spring Drive...specifically the SBGA211. Unfortunately, as somebody who took a pretty hard hit basically all of 2020 still affecting me to this day, and as someone who is still quite new to the wide world of watches... Something I have a legitimate passion for/willing to be a sponge to soak up as much knowledge as possible... I'm going to take your advice.
And really, really hope that I'll still be able to find an AD who has a Brand New one available either around me or Online by the time I hit that $5800+blah blah blah mark... I'm going to assume it'll land me somewhere around $6k or so... And obviously I'd like to spend that without issue (And ESPECIALLY without the financing options many places have nowadays 😣. I'll definitely put it on a Card, but only once I have the money to pay it off in full that same day). Comfortably.
The "Fear of Missing Out" can be pretty damn powerful, and I do NOT want to have to end up going Grey Market for more than Retail 🤦♂️... I would much rather find a great AD near me and start that relationship with the SBGA211 purchase 🤷♂️.
The Glashutte Original Seventies Panorama Date is very similar to the Nautilus. It is a gorgeous watch.
All of these are beautiful!
But I still don't know why I'm supposed to look for a Nautilus... 😂
On another note, could we have your opinion on the recent "scandal" regarding Rolex AD's and what it might mean for the future of not only Rolex but for other brands?
i only wish it wasn't 42mm but more like 38 :(
It's a downright bargain compared to the grey market prices of the Nautilus and the Royal Oak though, with a dial that is arguably better than both!
Check out the 2nd generation VC Overseas. It's also awesome, and a great value on the pre-owned market.
IWC Ingenieur 3239 is pretty nice. I think it was also designed by Genta at its conception as well.
okay that's pretty cool and all but we need a casio f91 hommage
Yeah it's my grail
Check out SKMEI watches on eBay 😉
Dude you might wanna have a look at the Casio a1000 series they have that retro casio look to them but they're made of stainless steel, and there are some different variations.
I got the A1000M-1BEF and I'm super happy it feals solid when you hold it in your hands but it's still light and thin enough to not be intrusive on the wrist.
Definetly check it out if you haven't!
I also love casios.
The 6 affordable nautilus alternatives that I definitely can’t afford
Now, you need alternatives for those.
6 affordable alternatives for the 6 affordable nautilus alternatives
Vostok neptune.
Those would be awesome options
This would be my list:
Tissot Prx / Tissot Gentleman
Ball Fireman victory
Tudor Royal
Maurice Lacroix Aikon
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak
Zenith Defy Clasic
Rolex Dayjust 41
Cartier Santos
Vacheron Constatine overseas steel
We have so many bad memories about the red star in the Eastern Block that I personally can not look on the Zenith.
Guess you won't like the Red Army watches then.
The Tudor Royal is low-key a much more interesting watch than anything from the new Rolex line-up.
it's a love it or hate it piece. personally, i think it's a home run
Just bought it and it's getting more compliments than my Datejust!
Never been a fan of the nautilus. I dream to own a Royal oak day. But for now, after lots of thinking, finally pulling the trigger on Prx quartz next week. The collecting journey begins.
The seiko snkk52 is a favourite of mine.
Got the Tudor Royal blue dial about 3 weeks ago such a quality piece at a decent price
How do you find it so far? Thinking of getting one myself. Regards
@@MrCoachab Good to know - thanks!
Love the Defy Classic.
He’s very humble, I appreciate that!
Got my black dial tissot prx today for 261€ ( rougly 311$ ). I love it, absolute beaty!
The overseas is in the same playing field as the Patek, but that Zenith looks really sharp, I would gladly go for it if a could.
That gold VC Overseas... oh my. I'm far from the kind of guy that would have that or the Wardrobe to go with it but that thing is unbelievable
the best alternative by far is the VC Overseas with the coveted Geneva Seal... nothing else even comes close to the PP.
I'm deciding between a Formex, and a Monta Nobel, and a Zelos Nova dress/sport watch.
My Green Essence 39 legit came in the mail yesterday. It is absolutely stunning. If you can pick one up, you won’t be disappointed.
I really like and want the aikon. Love that watch.
Wempe Ironwalker, nice design, great movement, solid build for about $3k. A terrific watch and should be in this group
Teddys UA-cam content is my holy grail go to watch information / guide / instruction manual.
Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally needed to see that PRX on the wrist!
WRIST SHOTS, T-MONEY
Amazing video. Why did you miss out on Omega Constellation, Piaget Polo and GP Laureato infinity options. Alternative to PP cannot be a Tissot or Tudor just cause it’s got integrated bracelet
Doesnt the nautilus have integrated bracelet? Im confused
Tissot are dropping an automatic PRX with 80-hour power reserve this summer (at least in the UK)! Has a waffle dial instead of the smooth quartz dial too.
Wearing my PRX 80 right now. Highly recommended
Breitling Chronomat automatic 36 is an awesome choice for that smaller wrist size too,
Thankfully I purchased my VC Overseas a few weeks ago as the blue dial is now application only and the black dial is about to follow suit. Get one while you still can is my advice.
The Edox Delfin seems underated. And should be mentioned in the list
Love the Zenith and the Vacheron but I can only afford the Tissot!
I’d go for the Vasc/Constantine if I could afford it but I’ll have to stick with the tudor
Can't afford Patek, go for Vacheron. Jk.
IMO, Tissot is the best entry level watch brand. Maurice Lacroix does beautiful finishing as well and their dials look great. Good suggestions in this video.
Love the jacket!
Vc is something which should be mentioned like. Some alternative for VC to consider then Patek should come.
VC is something at an upper crest.
May I suggest another alternative that came out most recently, it's the Series 8 Automatic collection from CITIZEN. It won't be available to purchase until Fall 2021, but have great specs and prices just from $1000 to $2000.
Yeah I seen these, looking killer
Nice suggestion!
Frederique Constant Highlife is also an alternative worth considering
I think I'll be wearing my Casio Edifice ECB10 tonight...
Teddy, dude, why did you have to put me onto that 39mm Formex?? Why did you have to show me?? It's so cool.
That tudor royal is really good loking!
FORMEX essence in green is just SICK!
Vacheron is stunning. I'll take two please.
Would add the Omega Constellation here. Esp now with the new larger size. Looks a bit different but classic Genta
I bought the kickstarter project Dumoreau. Very cool watch.
The Wempe Iron Walker is a great piece that would have fitted into this video nicely.
Luuurve that Formex, but for this style of watch, I'll be going with the soon to be released Direnzo DRZ-04, so much to like and love there .........
I know it is not exactly affordable but the A Lange & Söhne Odysseus is another great option if you want an integrated bracelet.
in JP (not sure other boutiques around the world), VC has stopped a pre-order since middle Feb 2021. Waiting list for Overseas blue-dial is crazy here.
Nice choices there. But I think I'm partial to the Omega Constellation 39mm.
waiting for the prx mechanical, hopefully nodate option :)
VC is my pick always been a fan of the overseas model love it on the strap
I think the last is better then any of the others. VC's finnishing (😆) is better than anyone else. It is though there is already a patina on the watch.
Maurice Lacroix Pontos Day/Date (‘19,’20 and ‘21 years) smoky grey sunburst dial with rose gold hands and appliqués gets studied looks without the AP comparisons.
I wish this list included the Baume & Mercier Riviera
Hi, Teddy. I hope you are well. Talking about the Overseas, I have seen the prices of the blue dial steal one increasing drastically lately. Do you think this is a trend because of the crazy prices of Nautilus and Royal Oak? I have one and now I’m afraid to wear it now because of it. Never thought of selling it, but at these prices it became more of an asset than a watch. Any thoughts on this trend? Thank you.
