Ponygirl AJ Sayaka was desperate to uncover the truths of Hope's Peak Academy and seek his father and why he isn't in Hope's Peak Academy. She even said sorry for what she had done and she even saved Makoto after framing him.
This is exactly why Ishimaru is the most tragic character in DanganRonpa, and this video sums it up perfectly. Coming from a broken family ruined by his grandfather, working his ass off day after day after day, never giving up as he fought to prove that anybody could do great things - utter refuasal to portray himself as anything other than a determined everyman, and yet his intense academic commitment took a toll on his life. Never, never *once* did Ishimaru have a friend until Hope's Peak. Until he bonded perfectly with both the weakest and most damaged students around, Chihiro and Mondo, only to not only have his memories of that life ripped away from him, but to have one best friend kill another, and then _have them die as well_. And he *fought* to protect Mondo, never, _never_ believing him capable of murder even *after he died*. It fucking broke the man. And then, a few days later, after that crazy emotional rollercoaster, he splinters, cracks - and then resurges with energy. Passion, determination - *fueled* by the memories of the people that meant everything to him in life and in death, he goes out of his way to do everything he can one again - but no. After what felt like mere moments, he was cruelly shut down in the most twisted, doubly-fucked betrayal in the game. RIP Ishimaru He was good, son real good maybe even the best.
There's a reason why Danganronpa has so many fans. It's because not only the premise is messed up, but the characters themselves also have messed up lives and her thrown into a messed up world. Most, if not all of the DR characters have had pretty bad lives that end up making them the way they are- whether it be bad circumstances, bad luck, illnesses, the Academy's doing, or even just coincidence. And it may seem even generic to make all of your characters have messed up lives. But Danganronpa plays it a different way. DR knows how to get you attached to characters, and get you completely engrossed in the characters. It even takes it a step further and kills off a lot of favorites, does sick and twisted things to the characters, and essentially breaks them. That's one of the things that makes Danganronpa so unique. It makes you pity and feel bad for every single character in the main cast besides the antagonist. Every single character is developed to be the way they are through their pasts. And most, if not all of them, typically don't even mention their messed up past as well, just doing what they do best to live.
Amethyst Lynx Well said. Although personally nobody has ever been able to make me feel even an ounce of pity for Ms. "Ludenberg", but I feel she's the single exception to that rule. Every other character is great though, even in DanganRonpa 2 and Another Episode - although I do have a minor complaint in just how stupid fast a certain pair of characters were killed off. ...Other than that though, yeah. Taka is such an unfortunate character, if im being very honest, his story should have had a better end. Since he was the Ultimate Moral Compass: people thought he was just 'getting in the way' or 'annoying to put up with' But thats the reason he's so tragic. All he wanted was a friend, so when Mondo and him went into the sauna, they created a bond through competition, moreover; not giving up easy. So Taka finally realized he got a friendship-like bond with Mondo. Only for it to soon be cracked, this means that After Mondo killed Chihiro and got executed, Taka was heartbroken. He still cared about Mondo all the same though, because he's most likely the only one who grew close to Taka. Putting him in a depressing state of mind, Taka couldn't overcome Mondo's death, moreover he wouldn't. But when Taka was introduced to Alter ego, and 'Chihiro' forgave Mondo and gave encouragement to Taka, he realized it wasnt over, his friendship never ended: so Taka didnt move on. He embraced his emotions, and accepted there was still hope. Mondo was never truly dead, he just wasnt here physically. So Taka had that mindset up until his demise, brought by Celestia and Hifumi. On one hand, it was a bitter end. On the other, he never gave up hope and kept believing. Thats what makes Taka the most tragic character in Danganronpa.

Dude. This game is sooooo sad. I loved all of the characters so much. Every time we lost one I cried until near the end. At about the start of chapter 4 I stopped being sad and the death made me angry instead. My sadness evolved into a blind fury towards the puppet master and the universe for killing so many awesome people.
I never really was attached to Ishimaru, but this brought tears to my eyes. Danganronpa always made me emotional, bu this was on a whole other level. You have achieved greatness.
i love the part where mondo and chihiro come and then go , representing chapter 2 and you can see the tears as he is rolling and then makoto and yasuhiro come then alter ego then he turns to white crazy taka , then hifumi and celete come and go and you can see the blood on his head and he is also back to normal, he returned to his senses once he went to the after life so that he can see chihiro and mondo. art.
It's extremely surprising how you can make a perfect sad story matching the character with the help of nobody-knows-how-much-years old song and easy animation... One who made it is genius. *can't stop sobbing*

Yasuhiro SHOULD NOT have survived in my opinion. he’s basically a comic relief character and almost never contributed to the story. like chihiro or Taka would have been better to survive
The first time I watched this, I didn't feel anything. The second time I watched this, my heart sank when Chihiro and Mondo disappeared and utterly shattered upon seeing the silhouettes and the ending.
As soon as Mondo died (rip in butter... I mean pepperonis) I was like, "Well at least Taka has plot armor now." And then the most manipulating, useless, prissy Black Butler cosplayer of a character (Togami was helpful...sometimes) convinces Walrus Face to murder him (I also blame Yamada, since he killed Taka because of something like Alter Ego (meant to inspire hope in the remaining students, but got ruined because Yamada got jealous of a guy who just lost his only friend).
You're forgetting how Celes manipulated him, she basically said that Ishimaru raped her and threatened her with nasty pictures, Hifumi easilly was shocked by this and wanted revenge. (Considering Hifumi considered Celes his master or even best friend) Either way this was fucked up for both Hifumi and Ishimaru

She's also the one who gave the key to a locker where she hid Alter Ego - and that played a vital part in the later game. She could have just not done it and the consequences would have been grave. As for Hifumi, yep, useless walrus. Though, I still pity him.
Don’t hate on Hifumi. The guy had good intentions in the end and didn’t kill Taka because of competition. Hifumi, believe it or not, was a genuine kind of guy, even if he was a bit perverted. He killed because he was easily manipulated by Celes. Sadly, that was what led to his demise.

taka deserves the whole world and more. his backstory is just super sad,he never was able to make any friends and his backstory was getting so dark that the creators had to stop writing his backstory. i felt bad because for the beginning everyone just brushed him of by thinking he’s just this “smart ass” and “teachers pet”. so when him and mondo go into the sauna to have the “Battle” that was the first time he got to talk to someone about himself. then after that he finally made his first ever friend but not long after he ended up losing him. i felt so bad because he just lost his first ever friend!🥺 i got so upset when i found this out but apparently after mondo’s execution he wouldn’t leave his room,wouldn’t eat,just wouldn’t do anything. so when hifumi was trying to kill taka i personally think that taka knew and i also think he died so easily because he was so exhausted and done with life 🥺🥺🥺 taka is best boi

This is the most I've cried since I was a little kid. I only recently got into Danganronpa and I already love the characters so much. I feel sad when Oowada and Fujisaki disappear, but I LOSE IT when the shadows of Celes and Yamada appear and disappear, with blood on Ishimaru's head.

Absolutely :D Though, I'd stick with Celeste over Ishimaru - Taka lost his appeal after Mondo's death, he became broken and useless. Celeste turned out to be way stronger, never losing her face.

Dude. This game is sooooo sad. I loved all of the characters so much. Every time we lost one I cried until near the end. At about the start of chapter 4 I stopped being sad and the death made me angry instead. My sadness evolved into a blind fury towards the puppet master and the universe for killing so many awesome people.

As soon as Mondo died (rip in butter... I mean pepperonis) I was like, "Well at least Taka has plot armor now." And then the most manipulating, useless, prissy Black Butler cosplayer of a character (Togami was helpful...sometimes) convinces Walrus Face to murder him (I also blame Yamada, since he killed Taka because of something like Alter Ego (meant to inspire hope in the remaining students, but got ruined because Yamada got jealous of a guy who just lost his only friend).
You're forgetting how Celes manipulated him, she basically said that Ishimaru raped her and threatened her with nasty pictures, Hifumi easilly was shocked by this and wanted revenge. (Considering Hifumi considered Celes his master or even best friend) Either way this was fucked up for both Hifumi and Ishimaru

Well, Celeste's one of the most striking characters in DR1 and possibly in the DR series, so I love her just for that - a manipulative psychopath that has a dream.
She's also the one who gave the key to a locker where she hid Alter Ego - and that played a vital part in the later game. She could have just not done it and the consequences would have been grave.
As for Hifumi, yep, useless walrus. Though, I still pity him.
Don’t hate on Hifumi. The guy had good intentions in the end and didn’t kill Taka because of competition. Hifumi, believe it or not, was a genuine kind of guy, even if he was a bit perverted. He killed because he was easily manipulated by Celes. Sadly, that was what led to his demise.

taka deserves the whole world and more. his backstory is just super sad,he never was able to make any friends and his backstory was getting so dark that the creators had to stop writing his backstory. i felt bad because for the beginning everyone just brushed him of by thinking he’s just this “smart ass” and “teachers pet”. so when him and mondo go into the sauna to have the “Battle” that was the first time he got to talk to someone about himself. then after that he finally made his first ever friend but not long after he ended up losing him. i felt so bad because he just lost his first ever friend!🥺 i got so upset when i found this out but apparently after mondo’s execution he wouldn’t leave his room,wouldn’t eat,just wouldn’t do anything. so when hifumi was trying to kill taka i personally think that taka knew and i also think he died so easily because he was so exhausted and done with life 🥺🥺🥺 taka is best boi

This is the most I've cried since I was a little kid. I only recently got into Danganronpa and I already love the characters so much.
I feel sad when Oowada and Fujisaki disappear, but I LOSE IT when the shadows of Celes and Yamada appear and disappear, with blood on Ishimaru's head.
