This run is super cool. I love speedruns that require the runner to actually know the game and not just their run. It's often that I see runners getting destabilized when their routing is disturbed because they have no idea how to do things normally. Seeing a run that require you to adapt on the fly is really nice.
I think it's a lot more interesting to see how complicated and exact a route can get, with people pushing each other to execute highly specific inputs. But this type of run is certainly less common, so it doesn't hurt to have it around.
+Louie Salmon - Both sides have their pros and cons, and both are very interesting to watch, in different ways. As a fighting game player, I most certainly have a ton of respect for the insane input control these runners have, but as Laezar said, it's also pretty cool to see someone be able to react and adapt due to knowledge of the game as well as the run.
Yoshi's Island is sort of a dead category now, as far as I can tell, but one thing I liked when it was really competitive was that every runner would come in with their own styles - which meant that when mistakes happened, they could still rally and get good times. Like the poster said above, I think there's something nice about both styles - really tight sequencing and people being adaptable. I wouldn't mind seeing "adaptable" speed runs more though - and I wonder if maybe someone could invent some sort of category to make it more frequent.
This runner, commentary couch and even announcer were all a delight to watch and listen too. Fantastic commentary and seemingly kind and wholesome people, I love it
Couch guy on the left is probably the ideal couch commentator. Doesn't interject when it's unnecessary, has charisma and can speak without being awkward or shy and most importantly, knows the game well and can explain long things really well when the runner is too busy to explain
@432prohis speedrun of Silent Hill 3 was legendary. If you haven’t watched it, watch it all the way til the end for a wholesome unexpected surprise lol
Survival horror games, particularly RE and SH, are notoriously difficult to break. This game is a lot less rigid with how you have to progress than other titles, but still a very tight game.
I really love how the announcer does a great job at reading the donations!! And her voice is really soothing to listen. I don't know who she is, but cheers to her for being an amazing part of this amazing run!!
This was so good! Wish I caught it live. Commentary was both helpful and funny, and the runner's adaptations made it seem very fluid and not mechanical. THANKS!!
Carci is probably one of the greatest speedrunners, both technically and personality-wise. So easy to watch and enjoy. Thanks again for this amazing run Carci!
I think holistically this is my favourite run, commentary is great, chemistry between everyone is awesome. I still come back to watch this in the background every once in a while
Old comment I know, but also wanna point out that most box drops are random, so having to improvise what weapons you have ammo for and whatnot is all important, and this had an uncharacteristically high amount of shotgun ammo to the point where handgun ammo was dry. There was enough unexpected rng to mess up lesser runners, so it's even more impressive how simple he makes it look after the Mia fight (which goes so incredibly south most runs would've ended in a reset or death right there)
Personally I loved the fact that it was a stressful run. We got to see him route on the fly, deal with unexpected dangers, and STILL come out on top. Plus it looked like the game actually scared him once or twice!
I underestimated just how hard that fight with Mia was going to be until I just started playing on Madhouse. Absolutely insane how many bullets she can take to the face.
I keep coming back to this run every couple months just because of how entertaining it was. Easily top 3 all-time in my book along with HeyZuesHeresToast's Bloodborne run from this same AGDQ and Bryonato's Titanfall 2 run from SGDQ 2019
Ive rewatched this speed run so many times. Everything was great in it. Seat edging gameplay, great runner, amazing couch, and even the announcer was interesting and had a little personality of her own.
Here’s a Louisiana fun fact: Louisiana has more swamplands than anywhere else in the world combined with the biggest swamp being Honey Island. And apparently, according to local legends, a monster lives there but I need some confirmation about that.
I love watching speedruns of horror games because it's the only way I'll ever see the whole game. Especially of RE7 this game scares the absolute crap out of me to actually play myself and this is such a great run. Carcinogen is amazing to be able to not only smash this game on the hardest difficulty but also to provide commentary of his strats while he figures it out on the fly like that.
I’ve never really been into watching people play games but this dudes really nice because he knows lots of interesting details about the game. Great video.
carci is one of the best speedrunners, he truly understands the games and knows how to work in them rather that just learning how to progress he learns the games ins and outs
Carcinogen speedrunning with that posture and squint looks like an IT technician who has been troubleshooting some obscure proprietary SCADA software for 6 hours straight.
i just completed the game and started a new game on madhouse and reached the Mia fight and died 5 times... when he said it could be the hardest fight during the run i rejoiced so hard cause i thought i was bad :D
Yeah, I saw his run before I played the game. When I finally beat it and tried it on New Game Madhouse, I see what he meant when you can die fast. According to a Steam snapshot, It seems I died 12 times during my Madhouse run. Took me 6h 42m. Learning various strategies he said in the video (like guard-canceling the heals and reload) really did help out. I can also see what he meant at how OP the NG+ items are as having unlimited ammo is fun.

aprilcake's voice is really so amazing
It was weird when no one except the runner clapped or made any discernible sign of recognition for the $350 donation.
so happy :)
This was such an amazing and fun run, both the runner and the couch were so active and they were on point with the commentary
This is the most glitchless speedrun I've ever seen.
Idk if u can glitch RE games that much
Survival horror games, particularly RE and SH, are notoriously difficult to break. This game is a lot less rigid with how you have to progress than other titles, but still a very tight game.
