as a TL owner I would like to add a couple of information : 1. DO NOT reconnect the bluetooth module. Yes this car have bluetooth but it's only use for calling and it also will not turn off properly resulting in the car drainning your battery when you turn it off. 2. The tire monitor system will just fail during winter time. 3. Doing a transmission fluid change for this car is an absolute chore. 4. The fuel cap sensor is not accurate, it will sometime ask you tighten the fuel cap eventhough you just finish fueling Other than that I absolutely love this car, from how it's look and how it drive.
‘04 tl 6spd owner here, had it for almost a year and it’s probably the best first car I’ve bought, could’ve gotten a better price on it but I got mine at 98,000 miles with not a single crack on the dash, planning to modify it to a stage 2 or 3 exhaust, coils and maybe a tune w/ a j35 or j37 intake manifold and call it good 👍🏾 hope to make it a type s replica since it’s pretty much almost there hehe
Got my 08' with 113,000 miles on the odometer and the only thing that it needed was tires. Dash cracked at 175,000, replaced the factory wheels with18" aftermarket.
Always liked this car growing up even stock it’s nice, just bought my tl and I think some led lights and lowered 2” it’ll be cool, lucked out I got a 04 manual for 2k
My 04 went 265k miles then i totaled it. My 07 Type S has 246k but in need of maintenance - motor mounts, steering rack, replacing seals cuz of oil leak. Hopefully i can get it repaired asap cuz i LOVE this car.
Yeaaaa they’ve been getting a lot popular nowadays, I bought my TL about 2 yrs ago for $3k. Nowadays in the condition I bought my car folk are sellin em for $5k but there are still a lot out there never stop searching!
Just a couple of things to update misinformation. Ua6 is base models, ua7 is type s. All TL’s came with leather and sunroofs, and the transmission problems were mainly in the 05-06 autos. They were resolved in the 07-08. Also it wasn’t a selling point for the hp, they measured hp differently at that time and when they got the correct measurement, they updated the base models.
Interesting because I bought a 2004 when I was 21 and I didn’t know anything about these cars and it was 2008 when I bought it and no info on the trans failure then but I had no issues with the trans luckily but now knowing this and I’m looking at a 2008 type s with low miles and manual someone is selling one and I’m thinking about buying it.
I feel like more research should be made before making videos like these just to appeal to the algo, because some common issues were missed that should have been mentioned to help a fellow car guy out who wants to buy one of these. 1. you absolutely have to make sure the timing belt has been swapped out before buying this car if you opt for the automatic 2. valve cover gaskets are notorious for leaking after a certain amount of miles 3. if you eventually hear a tick coming from the engine but notice no difference in performance, don't freak out because all you have to is adjust valves. the valve cover gaskets and the valve adjustment may sound complicated but trust me, a simple youtube search will help you out big time. hope this info helps you all out
Thank you man but you gotta understand that I do quite a bit of research before making these, think ab if you had to tell everyone ab a car that you don’t know much ab, you’d make some mistakes or miss some things too. I appreciate the help for other ppl tho
07 TL Type S auto owner here, in the later model years (07, 08) they replaced the automatic transmission with the beefier one from the RL I believe? Anyways I got about 260k on mine and it runs great just keep up with maintenance
im save up for the tl type s auto cause not much here for manuel im driving the 2018 tlx spec a 2.4 is which is nice. My dad have 2008 tl manuel back then i loved and like the sound of the tl its timless look and sounds so good. It so hard to find manuel for this car 😢.
Need to correct you on the horsepower between base and type s. HP wasn't lowered on later base models, it was just rated differently and is no longer rated and advertised as 270s, but around 250s. All base has the same j32 engine.
I've driven a regular TL and now I have a 08 type s, and I can tell you the difference is pretty noticeable - the speed and it's more nimble. But I haven't driven the is350, so I can't give you a comparison.
My favorite game for cars which is only racing it probably nfs but I have a love for gta5 because the physics atleast most the time are realistic to how a car would react specifically love the way rwd cars act in that game
Remember to do maintenance on that auto transmission. Mine had to be rebuilt around 260k miles. Im assuming it hadn't been rebuilt before then which is pretty good as far as most cars are concerned. (I bought the car with over 200k on it and it now has 300k). Out of all my cars this has required the least number of repairs😁

Pretty sure the CL last year was 2003. Many years ago I had a 2003 CL Type-S 6 speed manual. Sold it around 75k miles. Was a true drivers fwd car. Wasn't so good as a daily with kids. But should've kept it. I don't say that and don't buy fwd cars today
Absolutely love ur videos dude keep up the great work!! Can u do a the good the bad and the ugly on the infinite G37 if u haven’t already plz I’m thinking bout getting one
A bit of a disclaimer since I haven’t owned one, but from what I’ve heard, maintenance costs shouldn’t be terrible as long as you do the work on it yourself or take it to an independent mechanic or Honda dealer instead of an Acura dealer, prices will generally be much better and closer to Honda (V6 Accord) maintenance costs since they share a lot of parts and are very mechanically similar. As long as you do your own research and understand that things like the timing belt and power steering fluid and ball joints will need to be changed/maintained, it shouldn’t be bad. Also, if you get an auto, go for a 2007-2008 or a 2013-2014, the auto transmissions are way more reliable in these years and manual trans TL’s are hard to find (at least around me) TL;DR: As long as you expect it to be a little more expensive to maintain (shouldn’t be unreasonably so) than a V6 Accord and you’re on top of maintenance, the TL should be a solid car. Just make sure you know what maintenance needs to be done and you should be golden. I wouldn’t say it’s an S-tier first car, but especially if you’ve driven a good amount before, I’d say it’s a viable and solid option as long as you’re on top of maintaining it. Also if you want a 3rd gen auto, go 07-08, the trans is much more reliable than the one in the 04-06 model years
I have an 04 Tl 6 speed manual which I just bought 2 weeks ago. The guy I bought it from had the heads ported, polished and grooved with no other engine changes and it’s unbelievable how fast the car is. My sons is350 doesn’t stand a chance.

Motor mounts. Balljoints. Compliance bushings. Gps not working. Seats falling apart. Door inserts coming unglued. Exterior door handle caps falling off. Door switches. HFL. They have all suffered a variety of these problems. If not all of them.
