Beautiful pickup! The 3.2 and 3.5 3rd Gen TL are a classic. Our company offer J-Series Performance Parts and our J32a3 made 320whp/265wtq with all our parts. We then boosted it and it's currently making 560whp. If we did the same to a J35 gains would have been in the 330whp NA, which is awesome for a 3.5l engine. Bolts ons go a long way with these engines.. HalferLand Performance
I bought a beat up 06 Acura TL base. Ive restored the outside (fenders, shark grill, driver door, and front hood... Cost me 175$ at a junk yard) the entire front suspension system (Detroit axle parts) costs me a little over $200. Now my coilovers were 995$ plus tax. But between my 3.2l engine and 5AT trans the TL will drive all day. The engine and transmission are great. Car has 112k (I think once the owner let the interior go, meaning they took out the extra speakers and batteries) they blew the ignition fuse... Probably would of charged me more if I fixed it on the spot. Some parts arent cheap for the TL (replacement dashboard) but once its pieced together and all one color. Wow
Additional tidbits: Automatics- change your pressure switch sensors 04-06 auto has a transmission filter, change that too, only do AT fluid drain do not ever flush it. Interior lights for buttons tend to burn out fast Rear dash tend to fade as well Aspec 04-06 wheels > types s waffles 😤

Hey, I literally use my HFL all the time for phone calls. And I use SiriusXM radio. I just picked a dash out of a car in the junkyard that was flawless for 30$. I also picked apart a car that a local person is parting out and got the factory sub that looks like it was never used, the console side trim pieces in great shape. The carpet piece in the trunk under where the speakers are, oem shift knob, oem all weather mats, oem trunk tray, etc. Going back for the seats as they were in superb shape. I've only had my 3rd Gen TL for a couple months. Before this I had an 03 3.2CL Type-S that i loved but it was an auto and had the trans replaced by acura once, and was showing signs of going out, so I sold it and made money while I could.

I brought my Acura at 153k last year nov, this year its about to hit 159k this month. Car is amazing and reliable only if you keep up with the maintenance. For me I replaced the ball joint, sway bar link, control arm, suspension, brakes, brake hose, a couple fuel system flush to get rid of the check engine light and it is amazing. I have a 2006, automatic, never had any trouble. I did have the code which indicates a misfire at 140k, but that's a false that is well known. (Just update the ECU at a dealer). A second solution is to change the spark plugs, which i did. And I had to change the battery a month ago (it was the original!). And now there's clinging sound at the back. I from experience that it is the shock upper plate. But again, its the original so... Usually, I agree that you should avoid the first generation of any model, from any manufacturer. But in this case, if you know your stuff, you should know that the first model of the TL has been overengineered to compete with Mercedes/BMW and Audi. So it doesn't apply at all.

I had an 07 type s , things that went bad . Axles were bad , leaking , minor oil leak , transmission went , all motor mounts were blown , engine Mount broke , alternator went . Coolant hose broke and got into my engine , i did ignition switch , pressure switches , new belts . Coil overs all that sexy stuff haha . Got rid of it tho unfortunately worst decision I’ve made this car truly is a great. , might get another in the future . So fellas if you’re reading this , unplug your Bluetooth module !! It’ll save you all the headaches it gave me haha stranded 3-4 times bc of that bs I didn’t know about
I bought a pre-owned type S back in 2013, in terms of issues, had to change power steering rack twice, ball joints on both sides, timing belt, water pump, fuel pump, serpentine belt and valve cover seal. Thats about it I think. Family wanted me to sell it but I just couldnt , too much sentimental value lol so i'll keep on driving it until im ready for next car.
I had a 2005 Acura TL I brought it with a bad trans at for 700 then my engine went bad due to misfires could never fix the issue car still got me to work everyday then the day after I got the new engine I was on the highway hitting about 120 when I finally got off the highway the trans had went bad so I replaced it again then the new engine I had started having misfires I never really had the money to replace a lot of the coils and spark plugs to prevent it from not happening but sadly the engine went bad and I blew a gasket this was my first car I purchased wit my own money but I’m looking to get a new car soon and I just might want the Acura TL Type s
CHECK the SPARK PLUGS. (Tightness) I had one shoot clean out of the head and pull the threads with it. It started out as a *ticking* sound. That sound isn’t possibly just valves. Almost lost a second one too but recognize the familiar ticking the second time. Plug was fingertip loose.
I didn't read all the comments but seems like you and commenters missed one thing: Common rear wheel arch rusting issue. When inspecting a car make sure to check the rear wheel arches from the INSIDE if nothing is visible on the outside. Could be that it started to rust from the inside and will pop out in a year or so. It is especially important to check if a car spent most of its life in "salt belt" region
I have an 05 auto with 475,000 clicks and I do all of the work myself . It's easy . She's a beauty . I want to swap it to a manual because a type s is impossible to find now
I got a '05 TL not to long ago, my only complaint is the terrible gas mileage tbh. Went to the mechanic thinking something was causing it but he said nope its an tl bud
Ok, I had to pause and comment right away after you said stay away from '04-'06. I have an '05, only owner, and honestly it's still the best care I've ever had. 280k miles, no transmission issues. The only thing I have issues with right now are shocks possibly struts and power steering leak. Now back to the video.
I have an 05 that just hit 192,000miles and I need shock and struts but my steering is making a clicking noise and when parking it will squeel and make a whistle type of noise. It’s still driving but I’ve been I need of help to find a cheaper way of repair because I love my baby.
@@DylanandJazi try to find a local Acura/ Honda shop to get your repairs done. It'll be cheaper than the dealership and more reliable than some Joe schmoe. I love my baby too but I don't drive it as much anymore. I have an RDX as well.
And about engine mounts: Passenger side and front mounts are the most common. The passenger side one is super easy to replace. Literally can be done in less than an hour. The front one... Ugh... Big PITA. Well... The rear one also hard to replace. Just too little space for wiggle around
Another thing that commonly goes wrong with these vehicles is the entertainment system, if you think your radio, sounds a little quiet, that’s because the amplifier has gone out.
Great video, I had a 04 and got 366,000 miles on it . Best car I ever had, now I have a 2007 TL type S and unfortunately the dashboard just started cracking .
I’m buying a 2004 with only 96k miles. I’m a salesman so I’m buying it for invoice + shop fees. It’ll be around $3500 which is a steal in todays market. Lol we are selling it for 8.6k retail
Rear main leaks are pretty notorious for these cars once they go over 120k+ miles So before you buy one I would suggest you look under the car for any leaks as well.

I have a 04 tl auto there 50/50 on the trans being bad . There still a very good upgrade from the 99 to 03models which trans went out at 60000 all the time. The main issues with these trans are failure to service trans oil on time or using any thing other Honda dw1 fluid. My tl has 250000 miles still going strong do your research on how to properly maintain these trans and never buy one with dirty fluid cause this means the damage has been done already. Change fluid every thirty thousand miles or even 20 and change serviceable filter everyone leaves out and 04 to 06can be great too
So I didn’t know about centrifugal super chargers when I bought mine. I had a 04 6mt. When I test drove it I heard the supercharger and got confused the lady didn’t even know it was there. I bought an 06 Acura TL automatic. I spent too much money on it because I don’t know much about cars. I was desperate and I needed a car for work. It had 129,000 miles. 3 months later transmission died. Year later got a rebuild transmission. Plus other major things were fixed cost little bit over 7,000$. If you keep up on the transmission fluid, you will be fine! I have a friend almost 300k on original transmission 2005
BUT THE MOST COMMOM problem I had was the battery dying on me all the lights would turn on but car would not turn and start . After unplugging the Bluetooth module never died again . Golden . So fellas if you’re reading this , unplug your Bluetooth module !! It’ll save you all the headaches it gave me haha stranded 3-4 times bc of that bs I didn’t know about
I bought my timing belt kit for $130 and changed it all myself. Not too expensive at all.
My 04 6speed has 300,000 km still runs thank god
I bought a pre-owned type S back in 2013, in terms of issues, had to change power steering rack twice, ball joints on both sides, timing belt, water pump, fuel pump, serpentine belt and valve cover seal. Thats about it I think. Family wanted me to sell it but I just couldnt , too much sentimental value lol so i'll keep on driving it until im ready for next car.
U can change the radio to android radio works with Apple too. It looks like a tesla radio
I own a 07 tl type S carbon Bronze and I love it! timing belt & water pump done and its sitting at 120k miles.
BTW the Aspec Kit makes the car look 10x better.
How much did you pay to get the timing belt and water pump replaced?
(Tightness)
I had one shoot clean out of the head and pull the threads with it. It started out as a *ticking* sound. That sound isn’t possibly just valves. Almost lost a second one too but recognize the familiar ticking the second time. Plug was fingertip loose.
I didn't read all the comments but seems like you and commenters missed one thing:
Common rear wheel arch rusting issue.
While I love my Type-S, I rushed into buying it and payed the price. I had to pay thousands to get a bunch of stuff fixed
Same thing going on with me. Got it last Friday . Had it in the shop 5 times and payed over 1,000 in maintenance already
@@HpcZclan damn bro. What did you have to get fixed so far
@@HpcZclan $1000 is not expensive for having your car in the shop 5 times
Spent about a grand on maintenance on my TL S too, but she's good now, totally worth it 👌
@@christopherlee1695 facts my b7 audi 1 trip to the shop was already over a thousand
ah good old memories, axel popped once while i was turning.
And about engine mounts:
Passenger side and front mounts are the most common.
TLs are known for dash cracks. Easy fix get a dash cover, no need to worry bout screen covers
I have an 2008 tl at 220 mile. Still running smooth
you already sold it?
Is that the Cash Cab?
Power steering o rings go out a lot and cause a loud noise while steering.
Half the time u gotta replace the whole pump 😂
Rear main leaks are pretty notorious for these cars once they go over 120k+ miles
So before you buy one I would suggest you look under the car for any leaks as well.
Yes leaks and under carriage that’s a big one to check with any car!
My Type-S just started leaking recently😭. It's at 133k
@@DhruvDrives sucks bro, it’s a pricey repair if you don’t know anybody lol. I had an 05 that was leaking as well but never actually got around to fixing it ha
@@tubbin_2830 it's a pretty minor leak, most likely from oil pump. I just add a little oil every once in a while. I'll get it resealed at next Timing Belt and Water Pump replacement in 2 years
My son has a 2003 I think and we are currently working thru an issue. We disconnected the bluetooth module. I got the battery charged. Gonna start her up tomorrow.
One of the sexiest TL-S i've ever seen.
Almost bought one, but I wanted reclining rear seats
So i got a TSX with the same engine as the TL-S, the 3.5L J series v6.
Surprisingly hard to find these little fuckers, but I've had it for less than a year, and I absolutely love it.
Keep it clean, love your Acura
i have my 05 over 200k miles 6speed and nothing other than oil changes etc etc normal things to change at 200k and the AC went out but fixed that other than that shit has been a tank if you can find them in a STICK then i say buy one well worth the money
Nice looking set up!! I have 08 type s
I wonder where you got those front lip and side skirts lip also steering wheel.
Look so nice please share it thank you
i had a tl 06 A spec. dumped it for a E55 amg benz, now i miss it sorely. but i love the power of german v8 469hp and 516tr. but im inthe market again for a tl 6 speed.
Change fluid every thirty thousand miles or even 20 and change serviceable filter everyone leaves out and 04 to 06can be great too
Still my fav tl ever and car . Had to move on to a Dodge Ram for work . But kept my baby in my parents garage . Did not wanna sell it.
You sure you don’t have a oil leak somewhere bro . I have a 06 Acura rl same engine with 170 miles and doesn’t burn oil one bit I was surprise
So I didn’t know about centrifugal super chargers when I bought mine. I had a 04 6mt. When I test drove it I heard the supercharger and got confused the lady didn’t even know it was there. When I was researching superchargers I learned about them, looked, and omg there one was! They get placed low unlike other superchargers
Smiles per gallon for sure, but I also drive a 05 yukon with 33's so i average 12 mpg haha. Wife has 04 6 speed manual and we love it. looking to swap my 03 4cylinder accord for type S. I have replaced her power steering pump, 2 motor mounts and belt, valve cover all easy to do.
You forgot to mention the most common problem on TL's the rear main seal leak
In my opinion, is TypeS Manual, Base 2004-2006 manual, 2007-2008 Types auto, 2007-2008 auto, and 2004 and 2006 auto
Idk I feel like the 05 6 speed n the type s manual run the same.. On paper they arent that far off, 0-60 ,they are literally close
Love the tl but the only thing I hate is that the turning radius is so bad
all the auto transmissions from 04 and 08 are good and honda fixed the issue.. it was the 2nd generation tl cl and rl
just bought a 2004 base auto , the worst of the bunch but it was less than 3k and it drives so good i'm extremly happy with the car. i might turn it into a manual someday as I miss my previous e46 i had when i lived in europe but this is a great car as is
I also just bought a 2004 base auto, 130k kilometres on it. I paid 4,400 Canadian with safety im hoping I made a good deal
@@southshoredanny3935 i suppose you did, that's low milage if real
Oops already bought one 2007 tl type s🔥🔥🥶
I got a 05 auto no problems on my end other than the water pump but depends on the previous owner’s most of the time 🤷🏽♂️ but dope video man keep it up 💪🏽💯
04 a spec running great 220000 miles
Beautiful car man looks amazing 🙂👍
I still have my 2004 TL with Aspec kit just kit 200k running strong as long you keep the regular maintenance change timing belt water pump , and ball joints she's keep running 🙂👍👍
how much did you pay for timing belt
can you do a video on the lockbox you have installed?
you should get the waffles rebuilt to some 3pc with big boy barrels that'd go so hard
TAIL LIGHTS!!! Where did you get those TAIL LIGHTS?!
the navigation disks are known to go out
Its usaully the disk reader
Type S Manual is faster cause it also weights less. About 70lbs
Another common problem is the evap purge solenoid
I changed the entire evap canister on mine
There's a duck under the center console that goes from the heater box to those vents in the back. It does not flow over ther center console through the arm rest out the vents🤦🏾♂️
Replace your screen with one of those Android Tesla looking screen that’s the one thing I envy on 3rd gen vs my 4th gen
Those so look slick !
Wasn’t there a recall on those?
arospace 303 is the bomb period use it also for 10 yrs on my dash seats my 06 manual TL with 90 000 miles looks bran New !!!! Arospace 303 is the best best best period
U have a 08 type s as well and I only get 11 or 12 mpg in city and I feel like somethings wrong wit my car 🤷🏽♂️
You should try to get a tl meet going. I'd be down to cruise by in my type s.
I can’t find none of the used ones without ripped leather seats in the interior did u change ur chairs??
i enjoyed ur video.stright to the point with a little humor. i have 2006 tl & great tip on the transnission reset. thanks.
Love the car. My 04 tl would never pair properly to my phone. Ended up disconnecting my bluetooth too.
Where did you get the carbon fiber piece for under your windshield?!
I’m going to keep it because I spent a lot of money on it. Since I have a rebuild transmission brand new mounts and axels will the car last me a while or should I expect it to fail. I’m still going to get another car but keeping this. It drives beautiful
Man I got the same year and it’s been kicking my ass too. I had a major leak of my engine and transmission. My 4 gear is nonexistent. My power steering just broke. What the worst thing is, I’m currently getting 14mpg 🥲🥲🥲
Thanks for the video it helps me a lot when I will buy my Acura TL
My dash is terrible. At least 40 cracks and it's crumbling. I put a cover on it 7 years ago when I bought it
My dash is cracked BAD it’s an 04 base 6spd so i guess i got a good one. Ordering a dash cover soon that makes it look oem but sticks on
I have an 06 with 250k I'm on the 3rd trans n now it keeps going in limp mode I have change everything nothing works I'm about to slam it into a brick wall
The 07 or 08 TL’s still did not allow you to stream music from your phone? I thought that my 05 was the last model before that feature started
Does anyone know where I can buy this body kit or just bumpers in general? I have a tl I just bought that needs a bumper
Dealer ASpec Kit but are rarely in stock so might have to overpay to get from a resaler, call some dealers near you sometimes they actually have them in stock if you’re lucky .... also check endlessrpm.com
i like how im watching this after i already own 2 TL'S😭
I really do love the Acura brand. I have an 05 TL.
Why would u not.make a video on reset trans and say it's on UA-cam I'm a fan but yooo any tricks for.the oil drain pan rounded off I'm sure I know it's great to see it in action
great vid! what kind of in take do you have?
is a 2005 tl with 55k miles a reliable work car in 2024 its automatic
I jus got a 04 tl automatic $2,400 134k miles any suggestions
Gives me fast and furious vibes I wanted a evo but having second thought
same
My car burns no oil, change every 3k mi., Everything you have mentioned, l have changed, 20 mi, m/g isn't ba
Where did you get those headlights? They are sickkk
Got alot issues with my 07 type s first I've changed oil twice from 77k to know way over due since snow n cold got 86k oil drain plug I've spent along time almost rounded off plug theres no video because theres no room for hammer on smaller nut 6pt. I've tried a a autozone extractor going to try a spiral also do u have 02 sensor video bank 2 is running my 1'3 bad 14 mpg
Is this even English🤮
Where do u get the trim pieces mine are pealing also
I wanna buy a 2008 acura tl for 9k with 100k miles on it. I'm checking it out soon, but before I make/think about making any moves on it I wanna know if it's worth it. It's an automatic btw because I can't find a manual.
