Caught the biggest fish of my life there in the mid eighties, 60lb +. I'll never forget that November night!

I didn’t weigh my biggest but conservatively guesstimated at 30lbs. I couldn’t imagine at 60 pounder!
@@69bajaoutdoors In the mid eighties the fishing at the rip was great. I remember fishing all night at the rip and in the morning fishing all the beaches from the hook to Island Beach State Park.

That’s awesome. I’ve only been in New Jersey for a couple years now. I’ve heard some great stories of the rip and the beaches too. I need to do a lot more homework to get them dialed in. Also, living over an hour away from the rip, I don’t get to do it often.
@@69bajaoutdoors I live in Staten Island and back in the day I fished the rip almost every night in October to November. Very grouchy person at work...even more when I got skunked.

We did really well prior to sunrise! I packed my fly rod but the winds were a lot stronger than predicted.

They are starting to show up in Raritan Bay. A lot of shorts at the moment but it is still early. But to answer your question, it should be provided the weather stays warm.
On The Water magazine puts out an annual striper migration map. The big girls arrived the first week of April last year. This year was a pretty mild winter so yes, it should be on fire very soon!!!!

There were a lot more prior to sunrise. The lot was half full at 4:00am. I didn’t see too many that took fish home. The ones I did see going home seemed to be in the slot.

Yes! My apologies, your original comment makes total sense now. 😬We did see them. There were a few that were fairly close. Kept us hopeful that they would push the bass to shore.
