The Sinophobia is a special case. It's because of the Chinese invasion of the South China Sea. It's NOT because of the virus, although the virus worsened it. There has been increasing distrust towards China and Chinese citizens in the country starting around 2012 when Chinese warships started showing up in the Spratlys, then blossomed into full-on anger when China built a military base in one of the islands in 2016 and Beijing declared that they owned the entire sea (not just the islands).

Xiao Chua is wrong to think that it was because of racism that he was sent that message. And he's now calling that person a racist? Has he forgotten about the issue (or the big problem) that started a few years ago when China, despite the protests and the International law of the seas, used their might to bully, and claim and build structures in Philippine territory.

If you are being called "n" in the Philippines - to me, from a Filipino point of view - it is like a "friendship" calling you hey man. Filipinos tend to mimic from what they saw in the movies and in the music videos without knowing what it's meant for westerners. Don't get us wrong when we sometimes call you "n" because in the Philippines we also have a "Negrito" tribe from the North, and they are a national treasure nowadays because they becoming fewer and fewer and the government is trying to preserve their culture. By the way, Filipinos are originally brown or dark brown.

It is so awesome to see you guys understand each cultures. You guys are open to learning about both culture and customs respectively. Your experience and knowledge seems like you have better understanding of both where you are from and philippines 🇵🇭 instead of getting offended. Your guys seeing and experiencing what is acceptable to a culture i think makes you guys an ambassador to spread your knowledge and experience of cultures to other people.

Basketball is huge in the Philippines , they look up to Lebron, Kobe and Michael. English is spoken in the Philippines but remember it may be their 3rd language. Many of filipinos learn English in school but never get to practice speaking it. My Filipina girlfriend does speak good English but she has said some offensive words to me accidentally. That sort of thing I will assume happens in every country. Let me just say no country in the world is perfect, including the Philippines . I have respect for people who show respect to others. Filipinos are the most polite, courteous, helpful, kind people and for us in the west most of us do not know that. Basketball is very very huge in the Philippines, and being called Lebron , Kobe or Jordan is a huge complement. It is helpful to read history and cultural books that discusses life in the Philippines before drawing any conclusions.

Racial discrimination is not a thing in the Philippines, black vs white. We have black ancestry called ati/ negrito/aeta and we are fully aware and accepted it as part of us. You foreigners coming to our country should be be open-minded. You don't impose or even try to change people. Its only you who can control your self or reaction.

Mt. Pinatubo I remember you've been there and they looked at you like a very big version of them, their Kuya.

We say a lot in the philippines that we don't mean or not aware its offensive and sometimes we are praising a person not knowing its the other way around.

I do agree with both of you that it is more of ignorance than racism when you are in that situation in the Philippines. Here in the US of A it is a totally different ball game and I guess you know what I mean. Very good discussion and very good reaction! I fully respect the fact that you understand what is going on because of your wide experience in foreign travel. Congratulations on a great video!

Filipinos are mixed and we love everybody! Hopefully one day we will understand and respect everybody. We are all human beings and only one race matters... the human race!

I experienced racism before when I was a kid, I'm a filipino-chinese mestizo, slightly similar situation of Prof. Xiao. My peers used to tease us we are from Macau. Go back to where you came from. Now being a grown man, people are now conscious on what they say about me. I agree that you can lessen racism by sharing information and respect to all. Not only in the media but also in schools.

I don't see racism ending until people recognize the value of diversity and inclusiveness. The vast number of Americans have never traveled outside of the area they were born in. Ignorance is never bliss.

reason, I love your vlogs.. you are the type of people who Listen to understand. Not like the others who listen to reply.. but the racial thing towards chinese - is more towards the government, + invasion of West Philippine sea and this virus. Some towards the people who looks down at us. Really, respect and consideration goes a long way. I'm sure you've come across this, Filipinos are very friendly until you look down at us, then we turn hard. We become toxic as hell as well. But we for the most part, give you that benefit of doubt. Or if you like, you are innocent until proven guilty.

The Filipinos accept & embrace any race! We were one in Asia who open the door for the Jewish people during WW11, the Vietnamese during the conflict there (70s) and even now for the Rohingya Conflict in Myanmar. We are very friendly & happy people! It just happen that some, maybe due to their lack of education, they don’t have any idea how to approach foreigners. We do it (culture thing) as if like calling you in your ‘nickname’ (w/c exists in all the Filipinos, we all have nicknames), in a friendly gesture... unless of course they call you such in such with an angry voice & looks like the person is ready to eat (😅) you! Peace guys & stay safe! 🇵🇭❤️🙏🏼
