Would you ever be able to tell Max's story? Time does heal. I have a semi feral Chihuahua that came to me at 18mos and was considered untouchable. It took him 6 months just to come out of his crate while I was in the room. 6 years on and he continues to make baby steps. I'm still not allowed to pick him up. (After a nail trim, he's very skittish for about a week.) He has decided, just this spring, that it's okay to enter and leave the house while I'm standing in the doorway. Max will continue to heal and grow as long as he's in your loving care. Take care!!

Great video both. My husband and I did the same as you and decided to retire early and move to Portugal as life is too short ( covid brought this to the forefront). We also looked into France as the first choice but totally put off after spending time there and the hoops you had to jump through to get in after Brexit. We did a two week scouting trip to Portugal and decided it was for us. We moved out to Portugal end of July last year, bought a house in Obidos early August and moved in 4 weeks later, it was such a painless experience to buy a house. We have not looked back, it is a fantastic life, so laid back and such a beautiful country with such welcoming people. Best decision we have made.

@@geillis8248 We entered via the D7 visa which you have to prove that you have a certain monthly income to live on each month. This seems to be more important than any lump sump you have in the bank. We applied in June 2021 during Covid where we had to present our documents to the Portuguese consulate in Manchester, we were told it would take 6 weeks to receive our passports back with the 90 day visa stamped in. Once our passports came back we were also given a date with the border agency in Portugal for 3 months time where you then apply for the D7 visa. Within this 3 months we moved over to Portugal, managed to find a house to buy within 2 weeks and very luckily moved in one month later. We did use the services of an immigration firm in Lisbon who helped prepare for the D7 interview and also accompanied us there and helped translate during the interview. The visa was granted for 2 years and last month our renewal was up and now extended for a further 3 years. Hope this information helps.

In late July, we will be taking the ferry to Northern Spain and then taking 4 days to drive to our place in The Algarve. We have a couple of nights in CB. I'd be happy to bring you lots of tea bags and sweets (and anything else you would like) as a gift from me for all the pleasure and enjoyment you give me every week. You work so hard but you make it look so easy on camera!!

We also moved to central Portugal for early retirement at age 50, for exactly the same reasons. No mortgage, very reasonable health care costs, beautiful weather, wonderful people. There's no way we could do it in the US, especially California. We'd be toiling away another 18 years to eek out a retirement. There are a good number of things that are expensive here but if you have housing and healthcare covered, the rest is manageable.

Just wanted to say, I always enjoy watching you two develop your land and buildings.
And also, Ange, from the minute I saw you after your operation and you were not in constant pain anymore, there was a lightness to your features, a grayness had left your skin tone, and you definitely looked younger, no matter what Nick says. Lol! So very glad to see you both doing so well and enjoying your lives in Portugal 🇵🇹 😀

We loved watching you! Wish we lived nearby. After the Q&A, we feel we know you better. Admire you so much! If everyone in Portugal were as nice as you I would move there. The events in the US with the Trump coup and the division make us fear for our Democracy. Europeans seem more educated and together perhaps because of your experiences of war and your education and historical experiences. Thank you so much for sharing your life and we wish you good health and happiness !

This was great! Thank you. I found your channel through Bee and Theo & really enjoy it - both of youseem kind, hardworking and joyful. Plus the way you exchange labor for lessons is brilliant! Watching Theo's skills grow is a great thing to see & I feel as though you saved their dream after the contractor left such a mess! Andrea seeing you heal is a testament to your determination and hard work but also to the medical care. As seniors we moved to the desert in Southern California (3.5 hours southof Vegas) & specialists are 45 miles away in Palm Springs. As we age, that is an important element in decision making! Luckily our Medicare is closer to your health care than most US options. So glad 😊 to have met you both!

Great! Video. Nothing I do not agree on… especially Cornwall. All you said is very correct.
I think you have done a fantastic choice. The fact that you have building experience is your biggest asset ! Andrea and her gardening knowledge and farming backgrounds…
We moved here to our present home with the saying if we do not do it now we never will ! What with Brexit, Covid etc … we are glad we did !
You are a pleasure to watch and I have watched the building side of things quite useful! I envy how soo early you plant things in the ground from seed… Only just put my babies in the cold frame and shed … weekend coming up so pizza for you both enjoy ! Keep smiling guys as you are both looking very happy with your achievements ! So you should be! See you next week!

Very much enjoyed your chats about your endeavors and great tips on moving to Portugal.
I’ve been planning to move a married couple over and help them search for a home, but the wife’s husband is in hospice, now. She is still wanting to move to Portugal. I was in construction most of my life and can help her with reconstruction of a home. I’m hoping to buy a Quinta, nearby and reconstruct an ancient ruin. I was around construction dust for many years and suffer some of your symptoms. I also had double pneumonia when I was 5 years. I even grew up in my family Judo Dojo. We have an uncanny similarity!
I grew up in a huge community of Portuguese friends in my California hometown. I grew up on a farm. My family goes very far back in generations of farming. My Sicilian grandfather helped his childhood friend build the historic Fresno Underground Gardens. I’ve always loved my grandfather’s huge garden and as a child always dreamed of having my own farm. I’m planning to build a modern version of the Fresno Underground Gardens in Central Portugal, with a vertical growing wall and an indoor aquaculture pond. I’m hoping to buy just the right type of landscape that can support the earthen excavation of a south-facing hillside and an ancient ruin, just above, that I can connect a ventilation duct from the greenhouse, for heating and cooling. I have been in green technology construction and can build a geothermal system for heating and cooling the greenhouse and ruin. It might sound complicated but it’s all very straightforward and not all that great of a task. I’ve worked on commercial solar projects, throughout my career and want to build a large solar thermal water heater for a greenhouse radiant heating system and also for the ruin’s in-floor heating. I also have designed a commercial solar dehydrator for drying all types of fruit, nuts and veggies. I’m also toying around with building a solar smoker oven that I can process the greenhouse pond fish. Please forgive for carrying on, but I can relate to you Nick and have learned a lot from your videos..
Thanks for your series of videos and congratulations on the 10K milestone achievement!
    Cheers!
    Giovanni

I have been following many of you "tubers" in Central Portugal. Is this an unusual phenomena? I am interested in retiring in Italy with my dual citizenship but you all have made Portugal so very tempting! I am interested in DIY construction but would not attempt a project alone and at my age. Currently, I have a few properties in the U.S. I must put in order before finding another place to retire.

Thanks, Nick and Ange, this was sooo nice. And i really enjoyed your taking us around to different spots on your property. Your place is is so lovely, esp that view of where granite and woodland meet. Love your outlook of and priorities in life, and it's great that Dad Melvin is thinking about possibly relocating. Srsly, Ange, you do look younger & happier no longer in constant pain. I think Silver is the new black 😎. L'd OL at your settling in "posh" CP 😄.
I don't think of different Yt channels as competitors at all. I've just been enjoying everyone's journeys and been delighted as you've come to connect with one another and become friends despite the vastness of CP. Yes, DestinoPortugal and Penzance to Portugal are from Cornwall and are now in Coimbra district like Indigo Escape and Our off grid Quinta. Tho you may not have met yet, i think you're fairly close to FarmerForFun/the Marsh family, minutes from Fundão city limits.
Thank you, again. You're a joy to hang out with.

Very informative, thank you. All you guys in Central Portugal are inspiring me to jump ship and do the same. Life is too short not to. I lived in Spain for a long time before coming back to the UK. I am really up for a new adventure now. Great video as always, all the best!

Hi Nick and Ang, Great Video was a good help to know these things! We are looking into buying property over in central Portugal. We live in Wiltshire and will be over at end of June for 2 weeks looking at property. Did I hear you right in saying that you have worked down the Falklands ? I happend to have been involved in the Falklands war as the ship i was working on at the time was taken over by the mod. My mother was and my husband are from St Helena Island in the SAO and alot of the saints as they like to be called work and live on the Falklands.
We will be travelling round quite a bit whilst we are there ! may even get to bump into you guys, I will have to bring some sweets and tea bags over with me ! any particular ones you like ? Cant wait to get back to the sunshine.. Jackie and Cyril Wade :)

Hi guyz! Great vid! Stay safe and well. Speaking about lung disease, are filter masks hard to come by? I ordered a bunch of N95' with a valve from Amazon Canada for Covid and playing in the garage. I see some people cutting stone, and cleaning out really derelict old homes, etc. Exposures to dust mold, dried mouse poop without wearing a mask can't be good. 🙂❤👍👍👍👍

Right? i outgrew childhood asthma only to get it again my mid 40s after exposure to hidden black mold in apt i lived in. So i get all 😬 everytime i notice our favorite CP youtubers unmasked in dust, smoke, mold, mite or bird or rodent poop -- any of those can damage lung function 🥺.

We have a house to rent in this area, Figueiro dos Vinhos. From 300 a month. Modern and comfortable in the historic district.

Love you both, as they say a change is good as a rest. You both have done the right thing and will have quality of life. I'm seriously contemplating retiring to portugal, I've done some research and learning Portuguese. I will be renting out my house in the midlands, just to bring a little extra income.
Can I employ you to do work if I buy something that requires a small updating job. I'm looking at rugged but not a derilict property, more traditional I've seen your work and it's amazing. I will bring a million teabags and a suitcase of sweets.🙂❤
