If you select the cluttered viewfinder option on the Z50, the exact focal length of the zoom is indicated in tiny numbers at the top left of the screen. I wish this also showed up on the rear monitor, as well as in the viewfinder when the minimum information option was selected.
This lens is in my B&H wishlist for use on the Z fc--and I'm really quite excited at the prospect of owning it. The 16-50 lens I purchased with the camera is a fine performer, but meh for two reasons: 1. The middle focal range, which allows for solid shots, but not quite the thrilling, wider-angle ones. 2. The lack of weather sealing. For these reasons, I'm actually planning to use these three lens for greater versatility in less-than-ideal conditions: the Z FX 24-200, Z FX 40mm f/2, and this lens. Sweet, light, weather-resistant, relatively economical...a very nice three-lens kit.
I have and love this lens... I use it for various subjects... mostly for a wide angle with people! I use it on a z30... Just really many other options for the APS from any brand.
you need to update your comments on displaying focal distance. On my Z50 I have the visual bar graph showing zoom amount as WELL as a digital read out in the upper left showing a digital number of focal length as it changes.
You're not the first to comment this about the z50, unfortunately I haven't found that same setting for the z30. How were you able to find the digital focal length in the settings? Love to hear what you think!
Hmmm yeah I can't seem to find it for the z30 for some reason, I'll keep looking into it. But thanks for letting me know! I'll definitely keep it in mind when making my full review Edit: I looked it up and apparently it's available in a firmware update! Definitely will be talking about this in my review. Thank you again for bringing this to my attention
Can I please ask a silly question? I am interested in this DX Lens, but if I put it on my Zfc Camera, does it not operate as a true wide-angle 12mm zooming to 28mm - as it is DX Lens? i.e. there is no need to consider that the 12mm actually looks like 18mm, as I am not going to put this DX Lens on a full frame Camera?
It's not silly since these crop factors confuse a lot of people. I wish we'd be using field of view instead of mm, because it would be the same for all sensor formats. In short, you'll get the same field of view from a 12mm DX lens as you would from an 18mm FX lens. The scene and it's limits would be exactly the same.

I'm going for the exact same setup for lens for my Z50 and this lens is currently in my cart!

A lot more useful than my 10-20 on the FTZ. I will recommend to my friend who is building out his Z50 Kit. I have moved on to the Z6 and 24-70 2.8.
This is a real deal on landscape photography. Thanks for sharing 🙏
I have this lens and plan on using it on the new ZF. I hope the new pixel shift will give me more MP on the crop mode

looks pretty decent! cheers, nice video
Thank you!
i so wish we had something like this for e-mount apsc cameras.
Have you considered the 16mm f1.4 DX lens from Sigma?
I've considered it for video mainly. But I low key have haha

Maybe this is great for B&W landscape and Vlog cam.
