Ordered an RG351P for myself after watching your videos, it should arrive this week, can‘t wait! Question: as a newbie who watches your videos, I understand that the costum firmwares as 351Elec are still better. Should I install 351Elec on my device when I receive it? Or do you recommend EmuElec 4.0 more (if that is compatible with RG351P)? What do other people use on their devices? Do you still recommend 351Elec, or you prefer ArkOS and if so, why?
EmuELEC 4.0 doesn't work on the RG351P, because of the rumble issue I show in this video. It will probably be ported over at some point, but I think that 351ELEC is a better choice anyway -- it's basically EmuELEC tailor-made for the RG351 devices. ArkOS is also excellent, but I would say that 351ELEC is more tailored for new users, since it has preconfigured settings already. That being said, a new version of 351ELEC (2.0) should be out in the next couple weeks, so if you switch over to 351ELEC now you'll have to re-flash an SD card since this is a major update (usually you don't have to reflash to update). So I would say maybe just play with the stock firmware for a bit, and maybe mess around with the other firmwares, with the understanding that you'll have to re-flash again soon when 351ELEC 2.0 comes out. Hope that helps!
Might have to try this on my RK2020, I’ve been using ArkOS because it was drag n drop & less hassle, but since they’ve made this the same way I’ll have to check it out

I have an rg351v and I am lost. I do what it does in the video and when I install the Sd, the console does not start and begins to vibrate. The SD is .32 GB and was previously formatted in FAT32. I unzipped the image and then installed it on the SD with the same program. I don't know where the error is !!
There is no "they" the hardware comes with no os. This video is an example of one of many that work with this device. Steam works for all the operating systems a user could want to install with this system.
Does this update work on the RG513MP? I installed it onto a fresh memory card and put it into the slot. When I boot up it just vibrates with a black screen.
1st time I installed emuelec on my super the keypad shortcuts worked fine to get the in-game menu to appear ie to bring up retroarch. went for a larger sd card and etched the sd card., added more games but now the only way to exit a game is to literally power it off. Cant bring up any menus. I am running the 4.1 test. Maybe I changed a setting and didn't realise it...Any clues?
Figured it out. Had to go into retroarch and re do the key mappings and set up the hotkeys. Never touched that setting before so not sure how that happened.
How do I get the Drastic menus readable on my RG351M? Are there other settings I can mess with? Is it normal I cannot use any Retroarch hotkeys in Drastic as well?
Unfortunately DraStic is closed source, so the developers cannot get in and fix the font size on the RG351M. Because it's a standalone emulator, it doesn't run with RA, which is why the hotkeys don't work. You can go into the "configure controls" section and set new hotkeys if you'd like, but as you already mentioned, it's a pain because the text is so small.
It's always been that way. The EmuELEC versions that you see (for example, the stock firmware) have been modified to cut off the vibration during bootup. I'm going to try and fix it myself, if I'm successful I'll make another video.
Using EmuELEC 4.0 For SNES , playing street fighter 2 , I have 50 fps. Is that something expected or I may have some configuration parameters that make the device slower ?
Cool and the fat32 storage is a big plus over my emuelec 3.9 build although ................ I didn`t spot Mame 2016 ( aka Mame 0.74 ) in the Arcade and Mame system settings and that`s the one that I like to use ! ......... is it possible to put it back in this build ?

Hey Russ, I have a interesting question you could possibly make a video about. Like most here, I have a decent sized Rom collection, and I have trimmed it down to games I like and want by making folders of games I enjoy or want to play. Only problem is I can never figure out what to play first. What do you do to solve this issue
If you've got it loaded up on any firmware that has EmulationStation (EmuELEC, 351ELEC, ArkOS, RetroArena), after you've scraped your media, you can set up your screensaver to play random videos of each of your games. So I will often just let the screensaver play and once a game catches my attention, I press START to boot the game up :)
Some ways to pick a game: - google for "random number generator": If you have 30 games in a folder let the generator pick a number between 1-30 - watch/read top10 lists, like top10 RPGs (of console X) or top10 Shoot Em Ups - UA-cam Videos like "All SNES games". This channel has some videos: ua-cam.com/users/AllGamesPlayervideos This way I found some games I never knew existed. The bad point about this is you can end up adding more and more games to your collection instead of playing them
I did a noob move with my powkiddy 20. I tried to remap buttons to play psx Diablo because none of the buttons worked. Then I messed up the mapping and couldn’t reset it then I just ended up resetting the system and now it’s a different screen and only pc ports show. The memory card shows it’s used up 56 gigs still. I just started to back up what’s on the card Help me please. I’m not great at this stuff btw. Let me know if there’s a better way to contact you?
Finally was able to get away from the kids and zero in on the video.. The last 2 min of the video explain that it has a rumble issue on the rgp351 , needs a kernel change...

4.0 needs to be a fresh install as it uses a new partition layout. you can back up most of your settings either wth the inbuilt backup or just copy the key files over. for example retroarch configs are all in .config/retroarch so just copy that somewhere safe, then put it back once 4.0 is installed
Yes they fixed some scripting errors with DraStic and so people are now reporting that it works well. I didn't have any issues other than the mapping thing.

Ya lo he intentando con la opción de elegir en modo de visualización detallada pero no funciona. Al principio sí que salían las carátulas de los juegos . Creo que fue culpa de guardar los metadatos apague la consola x pro mientras la configuración de metadatos estaba guardando la configuración del sistema la apague porque pensaba que la consola se había quedado bloqueada y desde entonces las carátulas ya no salen en pantalla. También hice un recovery system pero tampoco me funciona las imágenes de las carátulas están grabadas y guardadas en la micro SD lo he visto en la Red del ordenador. No se si se habrán borrado las rutas del directorio de los archivos de las carátulas de los juegos alguien me puede ayudar. I think the only custom firmware that is still in active development for the RK2020 is ArkOS, that's what I would recommend. github.com/christianhaitian/arkos/wiki

I didn't see it in the Emuelec wiki. Is there a list of file types for each emulator that accepts them, as well? Again, if there is a clear cut site/link that answers these, just point me to that! Don't want to waste your time, etc
Hi, I don't really have a great place to collect questions. I think YT is as good a place as any, I try to go through all my comments each day (but can't always get to them). I just checked with EE 4.0 on my RGB20 and it connected no problem, but I'm not sure if that's because I had already set up my WiFi using a supported device (the OGS). Sometimes I get that same error, and I have found that toggling the WiFi on/off can sometimes help. Cheats are implemented through RetroArch, I did a video on cheats a week or two ago, which should apply to EE 4.0 as well -- check it out!
I've heard someone say that Yoshi's Island on SNES doesn't run full speed on any OS on this system, is that true? I find this hard to believe based on some of the performance I see here
I'm perfectly fine with my RG351P with all my roms up to PSX... Then I use my Vita for all my Vita Games and my massive PSP collection on a 400gb Micro SD... Until something comes out that runs all my Dreamcast and Saturn stuff, I'm set... I have a light blue Retroid Pocket 2 as well, but it's such a pain to work with... I hope a custom firmware eventually comes out for that handheld...
The original games will have to be decompiled first, like what was done for the Sonic games, or their source code needs to be released and freely available. I have a video coming out tomorrow about the Sonic ports, they're great!
I know, but you can't deny that the gameplay is running smoothly. I get the numbers thing, and I noticed that myself, but it was a joy to play compared to other DC games.
In EmuELEC 4.0, it is the third function key on the bottom (the one on the right, closest to the screen), press that and it will bring up the PPSSPP menu, and you can close games from there.

Confused about why this plays Dreamcast so poorly, psp as well. Maybe it's the emulator itself but I'm really underwhelmed with the performance of this device. I have old phones that outpace this in psp and dreamcast emulating.

I have installed for a PowKiddy RGB10, EmuELEC 4.0 , and for SNES comparing with 3.6 is noticeable the performance improvement of the SNES emulator.

They should include steam in this through box86. That would be a game changer, getting access to thousands of high quality indie games.

As some handhelds have preloaded Roms if you flash that SD card will you lose all the Roms? Or can you flash and keep the Roms?
For updating the unit it says in emuelec ""do not uncompress"" so that means just putting the files unzipped in the update folder????
no it means you should uncompress it even though it says "do not uncompress"

You press the "+" button instead of SELECT and up/down for volume and left/right for brightness, but yes it works out of the box.

For rg351p its better to use 351ELEC it have all things what emuelec have + hundreds of updates/optimalizations done only for this specific console

Yeah, at 15 fps, loll... I never believe them... They'll tell you something can run dreamcast or psp and it runs them at barely half frame rate

I struggled with Starfox on batocera, it didn't have the snes2010 core which runs it best

In EmuELEC 4.0, it is the third function key on the bottom (the one on the right, closest to the screen), press that and it will bring up the PPSSPP menu, and you can close games from there.
@@RetroGameCorps I didn't think I could, since I have the emuelec in a tv box, and it won't let me exit from the buttons that are configured to exit the games

Confused about why this plays Dreamcast so poorly, psp as well. Maybe it's the emulator itself but I'm really underwhelmed with the performance of this device. I have old phones that outpace this in psp and dreamcast emulating.
What are "Ports retail files" and how I can get them?
It will depend on the game. For example, with Quake you will need the pak0.pak file from the retail copy for the game.

It's really a matter of choice. For the RG351 devices I think the dedicated firmwares (351ELEC and ArkOS) are better streamlined for this platform.
can you add kodi in emuelec?

Yes, PSP performance is still best on PSP/Vita. We'll get there, but it's going to take some time for the hardware to catch up.
