    I don't think I have seen a better video on a review of a boat. It was well narrated and the music easy to listen to and understand you at the same time! The impeccable condition of your rig shows your compassion to take the utmost care of what you have invested in too. It proves to be a very capable boat to do what you want to within it's limits as all boats have limits. I'm sure Carolina skiff will be proud of this video. Good job!

    I found your video while looking for an honest review for the 162 JLS, because I'm in the process of considering a purchase. I have to say, this is the absolute best and most in-depth review I've ever seen of literally any boat.....ever! Thanks for all the info, because you've greatly helped me to make my decision.👍👍👍👍

    You keep your boat immaculate. I do have a tip for you that few would take the time to do. Your trailer is dunked in saltwater then sits all day in the parking lot. My tip is take a hand pump sprayer full of freshwater and give the back of the trailer a quick wash down. This keeps it from sitting all day in saltwater.

    Approaching my 1 year anniversary with my CS 178 JLS and aside from a little rust on my rear tie downs and the same springs on my bimini tabs, I couldn't be happier with mine. My 1st boat, so I still shy away from anything near or offshore. Strictly inshore creeks and the St John's / Intercoastal for me. Will concur, had mine in less than a foot many times with no issues.

    In my opinion this is the driest 16' boat available today. I used to build yachts and I can say this is high quality built with no short cuts! Also that Suzuki is a better choice than Yamaha because it has a timing chain and not a timing belt, which requires maintenance. The fuel economy is also better! You made a smart choice on this boat!

    I am considering buying a 162 JLS to trail to and from Florida for our winter stays and to fish inshore Pine Island Sound. I am concerned about how well the deck drains. Does it drain overboard or into the bilge. I don't see any scuppers on your boat, only a deck drain. I would not have considered the 162 JLS if it wasn't for your excellent videos. Keep them coming.

    • @NorthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @NorthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  Рік тому

      Hi John,
      Thank you for watching and your comments.
      The deck drains into the bilge.
      I actually prefer not to have a scupper drained deck on boats under 20'. Most boats under 20' with scuppers keep a wet deck when at rest because the scuppers are under the water line. I do not care to stand in 3" of water all day while I fish. This was exactly the case in my last small center console with a "self bailing deck and scuppers". There are some that say draining to the bilge is not safe. If I remember correctly even the smaller Boston Whalers decks drain to the bilge. I would challenge anyone to present an argument that Boston Whalers are not safe vessels. That is just my 2 cents....lol.
      Please don't hesitate to check back if you have any other questions.

      @@NorthFloridaSaltwaterFishing Thanks.
      That makes sense. I owned a 15" Key West CC that had scuppers. It was self-bailing when running, but the water backed up into the boat when it was sitting still. It had scupper plugs to prevent that. My Sportsman Masters 247 bay boat does not have any problems like that.

    I also agree with intro too long as I almost left site, anyway
    I have been researching them both for a while as inventory is limited on both currently
    I have been with a local guide near Savannah Ga 3 times this year with Minn 24 v 70 and it has lost GPS and went in circles each trip also with 24 v we don’t get finished without physically using manual anchor bc
    24 v batteries giv3 up , I believe I will plan on stepping up to A 36 volt system with boat being 22 bay V6 power / fairly heavy

    • @NorthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @NorthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  2 роки тому +1

      Hi,
      Yes the list to port is common to this boat. I believe it's due to the location of the fuel tank. The trim tabs are great. They correct the list and give you the ability to control the attitude of your hull in different sea and wind conditions. You will love them. I do not remember the model right off hand but as soon as I get home I will follow up.

    Awesome review! You got me looking at boats like this, but I’m debating it against a Mako Pro Skiff. Have you had it in skinny water? I like the idea of the hybrid hull so I can go near offshore and still fish in the shallows if I want to. Do you have any thoughts?

    • @NorthFloridaSaltwaterFishing

      I have fished both offshore and inshore creeks. I have had it in less than a foot of water. Fishes great, however, you need about 2 feet of water to hit WOT as it does squat briefly before popping up on plane. If you ease out to 2' of water before letting her eat you will be fine.

      This is a 40 mph boat top speed. It cruises comfortably at 20 - 30 while providing excellent fuel efficiency. Obviously sea conditions dictate how hard the boat can be run. This is the largest boat I can own due to HOA restrictions where I live. If rules and money were no object ($30,000 vs $300,000) then yes I would have a larger boat so I could reach out to the stream (60 miles) offshore. That being said, this boat allows me to fish inshore, the jetties, troll the beach for Kings and can reach the near shore reefs. I am very happy with this boat and 100% would buy it again. I will be posting my 1 year review soon. Thank you for watching and for your comment.

    I may have missed it. Given the right conditions, how far would you feel comfortable making an offshore run?

    • @NorthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @NorthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  2 роки тому +3

      Hi,
      How far someone takes a vessel of any size offshore is always going to be determined by the competency and comfort level of the Captain, weather conditions and the vessel itself.
      I have had this boat more than 10 miles offshore out of St Augustine. I have as much free board as most larger Bay boats and coupled with the bow design of the JLS it makes for a very capable boat.
      Just remember to check not only what the weather is doing when you launch but what is expected to do later in the day. Pay attention to shifts in wind direction and strength and moniter the weather band on your VHF. Be sure you have all required safety equipment. Make a float plan and leave the information with a responsible person.
      I hope this was helpful. If you have any other questions please feel free to shoot me another message. I will do my best to find an answer for you.
