      Just in time for 2001 when we had them. >_<
      Technically, most early 2000s rigs could run most stuff, they were just handicapped by vendor pre-installs, terrible drivers or poor optimisation of board and configuration.
      I do enjoy this content. Around 2000 when I learnt this stuff, I was lucky to be with a genius in my shop who could answer any questions.
      A lot of hardware problems can be fixed by bios reconfiguration. I don't see much of these solutions on this channel. Just hardware replacement. In twenty years I have seen an enormous amount of hardware replacement because people don't understand how to configure components or compensate via software.
      It makes money. But it is bad IT.

      @robertocalderon6972 2 місяці тому +1

      @@NSGrendelyou sir are correct, throwing money to replace new parts is some bad troubleshooting. It's the equivalent of going target practicing and shooting a target at 20 ft with an RPG. I tell my nephew that the same principal applies to mechanics, throwing in a whole new engine obviously solves the problem of the old one messing up, but didn't fix shit because the old one still ain't running.

    • @NSGrendel
      @NSGrendel 2 місяці тому

      @@robertocalderon6972 Moreover - you don't learn the fault - so you don't learn to diagnose it.
      Thing is with electronics, it's frequently cheaper to replace than to spend the engineer time (at least on the first few instances). And with the high rate of change for new platforms and hardware - is it worth an engineer learning how to do those sort of fixes nowadays?
      I'd argue possibly not.

    • @robertocalderon6972
      @robertocalderon6972 2 місяці тому

      @@NSGrendel that's the problem with the younger generations, they don't want to learn, and only care about money and instant gratification. In IT, you are not much of an engineer if you don't bother to learn how to fix components, use a meter, or even ohm's law for that matter. A person that "builds" a PC in order to run their silly games is not an engineer. Same with someone who mostly just replaces parts, they are techs not engineers.

    • @NSGrendel
      @NSGrendel 2 місяці тому

      @@robertocalderon6972 I would argue it is not a generational issue but an natural extension of the wasteful and rapacious face of militarised capitalism that Dwight warned everyone about.
      What is the value of loyalty, honour, diligence or respect when measured against the worth of the dollar?
      Capitalism is still a belief system, not an objective method of optimal distribution.

    I have a similar PC from Minisforum (also has the 780M). Most important spec if you're after gaming is "TDP," as these things are extremely power-limited (that is, the CPU performs way better when the GPU isn't under load and vice versa).
    Mine has a 70W ceiling and still caps out in intensive scenes, so I'd be curious to see it go head-to-head with the A8's 45W cap but newer, more efficient architecture.

    as a fellow massAss (western, MA) Pc lover with not as quite racoon like hands. I do like a lot of geekom models, i bought 2 of their models for family members who PC were insanely old like them.....and space was a huge issue. My mom wants her toothbrush back, and I like the Steve and LvL1 tech in background....also since it supports FSR2/3 it can upscale some title for slightly better FPS. All in All Geekom made a great model with this, and while 900USD isn't cheap the build quality and performance are great.

Used it to replace a midtower i3-4170 i built for my cousin over a decade ago, he is now 65 years old and moved into a much much smaller Apartment. So being able to mount to back of his monitor saved a ton of space. Other one I bought for a friends GF who wanted to play the simple games terreria, mine craft, overwatch, nothing demanding and she also has a tiny bedroom so for her it work we got her Ryzen 9 7940HS model the newer ones weren't out at the time. Im 45 and been building PCs since I was 12, but somehow own a pizzeria. But everyone at my pizzeria we PC game. So for people who have very limited space or just don't need a ton of power these are great, every new generation these and the build quality get better and better.

    The closest competing mini-PC in the market is Minisforum, where you can get the UM890 Pro with 32 GB of 5600 MT/s memory and a 1 TB NVMe SSD, and it is using the Ryzen 9 8945HS for $650 instead, which, to be honest, I'd rather go with since their APU tends to use liquid metal on it instead of thermal paste, which from my experience using the UM690S and the EM780 is very cool on the temps when under a heavy load.

    • @SalemTechsperts
      @SalemTechsperts  2 місяці тому +1

      Everyone loves liquid metal until it needs to be replaced lol but that is certainly a competitor.
      The size difference and power consumption is the biggest difference between the 2 and that would be the decider whether to spend the extra on the GEEKOM.
      The Minisforum UM890 Pro is 130 x 127 x 60.6mm
      The Geekom AX8 Pro is 112.4 x 112.4 x 37mm
      Quite a size difference, so it would depend on priorities.

    • @EcksGamer
      @EcksGamer 2 місяці тому +1

      @@SalemTechsperts If size is what matters, there is the EM780, which is 80×80×43mm but it uses a Ryzen 7 7840U but has 32GB 6400MT/s memory instead and a SD card slot.
      The system is so tiny as well; it can be tucked away in the corner and not really notice it being there and the system does have USB4 the only drawback with that system is that the NVME is a 2230, but i replaced it for a 2TB and partitioned it 3 ways, having 500gb for Windows, 500gb for Bazzite and 1TB for games and i use the SD card slot for all other things which i have a 1.5TB SD card in the unit.
      The other benefit is that the system is powered by the USB4 port, so if I were to use an eGPU with it, I could use that to power the PC as well as the GPU and then be able to play more demanding games if I were to choose to.
      Lastly, as someone part of the mini-PC community, I have spoken to a lot of people that use the Minisforum PCs with liquid metal in them, and none of them ever needed to replace it, and they've been using theirs for years in which they just needed to grab their air duster to blow out whatever dust is inside of the system, and that was it.

    • @ObservationofLimits
      @ObservationofLimits 2 місяці тому +1

      @@EcksGamer yea. Liquid metal rarely has to be replaced. There's nothing to dry out. Your biggest issue would be if it somehow oxidizes (which clamped between two surfaces, it shouldn't oxidize anywhere but the exposed edges).
      That's one of the great upsides to LM. It's basically forever in most environments.
      Although PTM is probably taking the cake for combined marks now.

      @@ObservationofLimits LM can affect copper too, but much much slower rate. Steve(GN) already made a comparsion video about the different coldplates reaction to the LM and Linus already showed, that LM can corrode copper coldplates too. They applied LM to one of their test laptop and dont touched it for years. There was some damage to the coldplate after the cleanup.

    personally I purchased one of the cheaper models and use it to run dedicated gaming servers for games like minecraft and satisfactoy. A nice cheaper mini pc, doesnt use more power than it needs which is nice for those looking to run servers. Just a heads up the cheaper ones are great for that.

    Right now, it just BARELY doesn't make sense for me to get this. I'm moving to an infrastructure with self-hosted cloud gaming while my main machines are planned to be a Mac Studio for video editing and a Mac Mini as a media box in the bedroom and a Proxmox server in the living room. The Proxmox machine will be the NAS, Jellyfin host, and in charge of virtualizing a VM for self-hosted cloud gaming. Our new-ish Framework laptop will be running Linux (Fedora as of this writing). Some of this is probably a very bad idea, but I don't care. It's going to work for us.
    However, I can justify recommending these to everyone asking for recommendations for good pre-builts.

    Do you fix portable hard drives? One day mine just stopped responding. I can still plug it in like normal And the light turns on when I plug it in but It can’t connect to any of the data in it. I sent it to one place and they said it would cost thousands of dollars to even attempt anything. They were more concerned about wanting me to replace the sturdy casing because it had the tiniest little dent on the surface (which it had a year or two before it stopped connecting) then the actual recovery of my data, which caused me to cancel service with them and have them return it.

    mr greatest technician thats ever lived, i have a quick question
    basically, ive had this issue with my computer where under stress both my monitors would stop recieving anything, as if the pc is off
    the only way to get back the video input to my monitors was to just restart my entire computer
    recently i found that one of the gpu-psu cables was loose, due to them being put in in the wrong order, leaving something in the way of the far right cable (on a 3070)
    now, my question is, would that loose cable (now properly on the pins) be able to cause this issue or should i be looking elsewhere?

    The greatest technique that ever lived. I gotta say that looks pretty d*** good. I am not very modern, but my windows are the XP. How many years than years because they shut it down? Looking On my cellphone enter videos, but been looking for for something like that that came out on the back of the t. V. That's many, can I get put on my 55 inch TV now without work on the T. V. And ever does? I am definitely interested in one of those I don't do much gaming. I do really do a lot of online downloads of documentaries and repair as specs of antique, electronic or antique disabled. Anything antique to repair? I do a lot of antique repair of any. Each thing and I need a lot. Sometimes I need it done. Load the specs, and therefore I need a big t. V to see this backs easier and need something with a good lot of memory n. FI can do all this, then I am definitely interested. Could you tell me where I could find one
