    When a mold is so iconic and reusable it was in service for nearly an entire decade.
    I mean sure it's probably nowhere near the amount of movie Bumblebee molds, but damn.

    I'm surprised the most reused mold in TF isn't any of the Movie Bee figures. (Admittedly, those are very niche guilty pleasures of mine to collect.) This mold is so good that when they tried to make their attempt at the "best" mainline Starscream 15 years later, they just made him bigger. Man, I am so excited to get SS86 Starscream

    As a random bit of trivia, Classics 2006 Starscream’s jet mode deco is based off the prototype test colours of a fighter jet (can’t recall the specific model) but it’s cool that they found a colour-scheme that sorta resembled the classic Seeker deco and applied it.

    Oh! Maybe you could do a companion video talking about the hardest molds to reuse. Molds that were only ever used once, for one character. Or times a new character was created just so they could reuse a mold.

    I got Generations Thundercracker for a character display, and that was my first time touching the mold after years and years of missing out on Classics Starscream. I can see why this mold got so many reuses, it's a solid Deluxe and the Seeker design is so classic.

    There were some really cool K.O. versions of this mould as well. CHMS made the cooler ones. An All black and gold one, different brighter coloured rainmakers, complete chrome and gold versions, even a bright pink and white one! Sorry I missed out on that. I've got 2 silver , orange and white versions of Ramjet, and a clear plastic green version of Acid storm, the powder blue, lime green and bright yellow seekers, a set of the 3 main seekers with different stripes and slightly different paint apps. Sooo many. I loved this mould. enough to have 24 of them. It's a shame they weren't "ultra class" though, to be in scale with that Universe Powerglide. I wish they made the coneheads with that leader sized Combiner Wars seeker mould. That would have been cool. The Earthrise ones are awesome, but still too small in voyager scale.(missed it by that much!) Jets should be bigger, and to me Decepticons should be huge compared to the Autobots. What the Autobots lack in their size, they make up for in their numbers and ingenuity.

      Nah, they literally reused the Earthrise mold for Studio Series and we did get G2 Ramjet. Most of the Siege mold Seekers are randos, while the Earthrise mold was given the full Conehead Treatment.

    • @Toastman30K
      @Toastman30K 2 роки тому +1

      my best guess is reception, people did *not* like the earthrise starscream mold, because it felt outdated with how much it takes from the classics seeker mold, without improving its flaws, like the conehead backpack, or the visible gaps in his legs, lack of waist swivel, etc, since many starscream toys in third party circles dealt with these issues in inventive ways, it left people salty
      then the siege mold, well its probably the best figure for a tetrajet out at the moment, even if its mostly shell wings, but because of that, the figure is extremely posable, I even use the figures as an Art reference sometimes, its great

    I disagree with you about Nacelle. Super obscure characters is exactly what a collector/fan club should be doing. Especially at a time when hasbro was putting comic only characters like drift and straxus in their toylines. And Especially after the 2007 seeker debacle they had to find a use for the mold that hasbro themselves would never touch.
    I just wish we'd gotten the other 2 conehead-winged catalogue Seekers. To finish the trio.

    What you were saying about the use of repaints to cut costs in every toyline, is what makes Studio Series so amazing to me. as ignoring some of the outliers like Thundercracker, TLK chars, and the Bumblebees, the sheer amount of times they make an extremely accurate vehicle and robot mode, even when the actual toy is bad, the fact that single one-off molds has been so succesful they're even brancing out to concepts and the mini shockwave, shows the amount of dedication the fans + designers have

    Funny thing is the Earthrise Seeker mold being very influenced by that Classics Seeker mold. Like when it was first shown, everyone was all "Oh, it's just the Classics mold made bigger!" And there are a lot of similarities with how everything transforms. So far the mold has been used 8 times (Starscream, Thundercracker, Skywarp, Ramjet, Thrust, Dirge, Sandstorm, G2 Ramjet), and I'm betting it'll be used for many more characters in the future.

    BotCon Dirge did not get remolded wings because it wasn't in the budget after they remolded characters like Thrust that year. It was explained in the biography that Dirge had been nearly destroyed in an earlier story and had to be rebuilt. So this was his new body after the rebuild.

    Man, I bought in hard to this mold. It was one of my absolute favorites of the time and I only just recently sold my remaining Seekers to replace them with the Earthrise ones. I only collected the main 6 (and 1 G2 Ramjet due to childhood memories), but I had the first Henkei ones thinking I'd never get the botcon ones. Then I got a good deal on Thundercracker and Thrust, payed about market for Dirge, and had all the Hasbro ones. Then I took the financial hit in selling the Henkei and botcon ones after the retail Thundercracker, Thrust, and Dirge were announced, collected them, and that's the set of 6 I kept until Earthrise

    That "Rainmaker" set was actually intended to be the "Decepticon welcoming committee" from episode 1, they just called it Rainmakers because FunPub was FunPub. So that was supposed to be Sunstorm... they just miscolored him (they miscolored all three of them, technically)

  • @jasonregimbal-kung6154
    @jasonregimbal-kung6154 2 роки тому

    I loved this mold. I collected it and I still have them. The KO people really pushed this beyond even the official list. I was so happy when they made a full Rainmakers set since they were featured on the show. They even made glow in the dark Rainmakers, but they were clear and I couldn't bring myself to buy them since I figured I's probably break them. I did get the KO all clear Seeker and it broke badly on me. When KO Toys went down I bought a three pack on sale to have spare parts.
    Speaking of unofficial, I was really glad to get the 3P coronation gear. I even used the Leader-1 head to get a custom done, although those wings broke on me. Twice! One thing I appreciate about the classics set is that they use screws in most areas. Really makes dismantling them doable. I got a KO Starscream with an official Hasbro Dirge and made a pretty passable attempt at L-1 before sending another off to get painted.
    I actually liked Nacelle. I thought it was a clever use of their old custom parts.
    One more thing I appreciate about classics Seekers is that they scale with CW Arealbots. Maybe the planes are actually all over the place in real life, but it was nice to have Seekers that were the same size as Arealbots for a time. Now the Arealbots are too small again. Oh, well.

    I think the mold that came closest to being as overused as the classics seeker is the female combiner body that was originally used to make Moonracer and Nova Star...then Greenlight and Lancer, Chromia, Nightbird, Scyllia, some characters that weren't even female...and I'm sure a few that I don't even know about...

    31? Solid! Beware of the rubber nose cone for those designs that have it. The metal pin area that holds it to the solid plastic can give way. Any mix of rubber held by a metal pin to solid plastic runs such a risk due to a combination of plasticizer seepage, pressure and expansion/contraction of metal over time.

    I think you should just do them order. Don't try to review Beast Wars and Beast Machines at the same time. Finish Wars then start Machines because that's what makes the most sence.
    Also... I thought Bumblebee was the most over used mold. I mean there are versions of the same mold where all they changed was slightly different stripes on the vehicle mode. And I'm talking like one of the original 2007 movie molds that seems to get re-released every time a new movie comes out. Plus the Nightwatch versions where they invert the black and yellow. Then there's usually alternate head sculpts with or without his battle mask. Then there's the version that came with Longarm which isn't even a character in the movie it's based on the towtruck that was in the first movie when he lost his legs. Then there's the what I like to call Fan Wank version which is meant to look like a Nascar with all the brand logos but they're all references to other Transformers stuff. They made a Sideswipe like that too and I have both of them. I'm pretty sure there are over 30 versions of that Bumblebee mold.
    Oh and MP10 Optimus Prime seems to get reused at least once every year since it originally came out so I wouldn't be surprised if that became the most reused mold if it isn't already.
    At least the seeker molds can get released as different characters. It's not just 30 variations of Starscream's color pallet like Bumblebee is.

    This is such a good mold; easy to customize and swap parts out on. Earthrise seekers... suck.

    I remember there were also the CHMS Knock off versions of the mould. Some of the more notable ones were two different Sunstorms, the real Rainmakers, a generic Purple Seeker, full on Chromed Seekers, and “Black Death” Starscream.

    Bitstream, Hotlink and Sunstorm weren't Rainmakers, they were the "Welcoming Committee" from episode 1

    I will be honest the classics universe starscream I never had until I got skywarp and thundercracker then starscream its to me a simple transformation the only problem i have is lack of ball joints unable to refix that of breaks that means buy another one just by the toy, skywarp as a two pack is hilarious as starscream's coronation why make skywarp a 2 pack with someone you don't want not the best idea unless it's relevant. My middle school friend has a 3 pack with (hot rod) rodimus, cyclonus and nightstick with a comic. And in cybertron they had dirt boss and hotshot that's my thoughts on 2 pack thundercracker may not be g1 toy painted but I can take it I grew up a thundercracker who was completely grey and small blue not bothered by it paint spoken. The transclear plastic starscream could be a good idea but not to easy starscream

    So, if I can ask, how does mould degredation work? I don’t quite understand

      Though the molds they use to make this figures, made out of metal, are really sturdy and are meant to last, they degrade with use (as everything else does), particularly with the heat of the molten plastic. One use once in a while may do nothing to it, what really does a number to the mold, however, is it's continuous use, and given how these figures have to be produced in very large numbers to supply demand, they get a lot of continuous use, so degradation it's inevitable, as metals deform with heat.
