It's really hot and not really for extended cold weather. Temps above 80 it's really warm and temps below 45 it gets cold. Winter it's cold (40-30 degrees) so I supplement with an extra layer and put ski bibs on with Thinsulate. Summer it's hot coming home from the bay with mid 60s to high of 105. When I take off this jacket my under shirt is soaked. More of a 2 season jacket/pant that does well in rain. The hook/loop on the upper part of the jacket around the neck catches your helmet strap and frays the strap when not riding with it closed. It does fit very tight. I'd say to size up 2 sizes to feel mobile and comfortable. I ride from the far east bay and ride into, Monterrey, SF, Sacramento, Napa and central Cali and it is about right for 60% of my rides for weather. I 'd buy again and like it. It has some good storage features specifically the front jacket vertical pockets work well.
@@chadmckinney3356 well mid 80s is fine, we mostly get around 95F maximums during the peak of summer but only a mesh jacket would feel ok in those temps... i think this will be fine for road trips outside of the city.
I just received my v3 jacket and pants after using the v2 for almost four years. First impressions are not great. The fit is tighter, which isn't necessarily bad, but arm movement is a bit restricted. Two things that are really annoying about the jacket are the left handed zipper and that the collar holding loop was moved from the collar (where it belongs) to the shoulder. Any time I move my left arm the collar comes unhooked. This will be very inconvenient when riding in hot weather where I'll want that front collar held back to let more air flow. Also, the pocket for a back protector pad is smaller than before so my d30 pad barely fits and has a slight bend in it since the pocket isn't long enough. I feel like they violated the law of "if it ain't broke don't fix it" with a few of these changes. The v3 looks better than the v2, but maybe doesn't function quite as well.
@@MelchizedekKohen Personally, I wouldn't go a size up from what I bought. The pants would likely be too long and the knee pads would sit too low. The jacket fits pretty well, there's just less material in front of the shoulders which restricts movement in the arms
I got my V3 today after wearing the V2 for two years, it took some investigation but I found the super secret hiding spots for the pads, I'm really hoping these thin pads can protect, but my brain took about 10 seconds to figure out why my hands weren't working the zipper right, I think I'll be gluing the collar flap to the hook, terrible placement, if I didn't think it would go to a landfill I'd return it, hopefully V4 will be better
Jerry channel, did you decide to keep the jacket? I just got it and I noticed that the loop that holds the collar does not stay on? If you did not keep the jacket what other options did you look at and if you kept it how is it going? First impressions, I tried it on in the store and the Medium fit a bit tight in the chest so I went up to large and it was better. I have not rode in it yet so still keeping my options open.
I will wear motocross jersey instead of the winter liner as it’s hot for my country weather, but it would be a wind-flow heat reduction when riding. It looks great and it worth the price just wears it with care would do a couple of years or 5-10 trips occasions
I am looking to replace my original Andes jacket I've had for 8 years now. I absolutely love it, but it has lost some of its water resistance. Same goes for the Andes pants I still use. This Andes v3 looks like a good replacement, price functionality. I guess with a separate goretex liner you'd be able to treat that liner to make it waterproof again.
ALPINESTARS ANDES DRYSTAR SPECIAL EDITION for 150 or Alpinestars Andes v3 for 210? I want something for warm winter days, up to cold summer days (so mainly fall and autumn. I have a Revit Eclips mesh for summer, and I don't ride in sub zero in the winter)
I have this jacket paid $325.00 with added back armor....I don't nesscessarily call that entry level. I have a 100.00 coat seems better vented with harder stiffer armor also a touring jacket.
Bought this jackit today added the back protector and thought Shure I will add my shoulder and elbow armer in when I get home. To then discover it has some in it super thin! and it's not removable? So my question to every one is is this armer any good I have never heard of it it's so soft and thin dose not give me grate confidence in the safety of the jackit and was thinking of bringing it back to the shop to change it out for different make.
Yes, although at those temperatures you may want to also consider a heated base layer. Once you get on the highway, temps usually drop 10-20 more degrees than what is posted and you'll need something to help generate heat at that point.
Does anyone know how long this jacket has been out? Is it new? Also, tried it on and I usually wear a Medium. I had to bump up to a large. Maybe I put on muscle.
Oh man, that guy has got to be so hot underneath all that gear. I own the Andes V2 Jacket and Pants, and it's very hot if you're in room temperature, and standing there for a while. Spurgeon, you gotta talk faster like Anthony so he can get out of that gear. 🤣 Great review!
Those studio lights to make it a bit hotter but I appreciate the concern. Hope nobody sees me sweating and thinks that is how it's going to be with the wind rolling through on a ride ha.
Hello, please advise. What size are you wearing in the video? I have 184cm and 91kg, chest 109cm, waist 96cm, hip 107cm, thigh 63cm, inseam 83cm, outer arm 65cm. I'm worried that my XL size will be large. Thank you for your response.
At the moment, we unfortunately don't plan on shooting a review on that vest as it doesn't have too many features to talk about. However, if you have questions feel free to ask and I will try to grab some answers for you.
I've tried this jacket at the store in the other day. The protection felt ridiculous unsafe, it just has a removable very thin rubber layer to absorb impact...almost nothing there honestly! Felt like a regular jacket in terms of protection. The design is beautiful, and the back pocket is useful. Really wanted the jacket but I didn't buy it as I felt no safety.
just add better armour or pull it from your hot weather jacket. Thats what I have done. I have moved to this type of gear for early fall and have the matching pants in the same colour as jacket. It is a good jacket and for those who are older like me I rather be warm than cold and I am sport touring not adventure riding, great for me for early spring and late fall
Armor tech has come a long way. The thin rubber that you see remains soft usually, allowing for comfort and movement. It tenses up on impact. Giving you best of both worlds
I bought this jacket today as I’m really slim build but the jacket fit really well on me in a large. I too was a bit sceptical about about the level 1 armour as it doesn’t feel like there’s anything there, however I know armour has com on in leaps and bounds over the last few years. I just hope my back armour fits in too. I can’t wait to try it in our UK winter and I plan to do a review on it on my channel if anyone fancies taking a look.
This is the armor in the jacket with the elbow being closer to the top so you get some upper forearm coverage, but not fully covering. www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/alpinestars-nucleon-flex-plus-elbow-armor
Dude yeah, 220 with 34" sounded off to me too. When I think about it, though, it's not necessarily. At 6'1" myself, I've always had a tall and skinny body type, 32-33" waist at 165 lbs. I got up to 220 lbs for a few years and my waist went to about a 35. (Back to normal now.) My guess is he's in that camp I was in: A taller guy who's built pretty skinny, but has grown a gut.

great idea putting the helmet on the guy, it's distracting to look at human mannequins :)
Apologies, I will tone down my distractingly good looks in the future.
Right
Hi Spurge, I live in a hot country (29C or above), in terms of ventilation, which pants are better? the Andes V2 or V3?
Thanks
have the same question
They're both about the same, but v3 might be slightly better since there are button tabs to hold the vents open
Version 3, I have them, they are excellent plus you can pull the cold weather liner
Would this be a good winter jacket? Anywhere from 20 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit?

Bret Tkacs just reviewed this for real, in the actual rain, he said it's great, except both his forearms are damp.
Thats probably a deal breaker lol
I think he wore it for a weekend.
Should I buy the back protection ? What do you think of it ?

I think two years? I got a Medium last year but feel I should have sized up. Alpinestars usually has a more "euro" fit
