Great review. Just bought this jacket having used my Alpinestars Bogota for years. Thanks especially for explaining how to access the armour pockets. That information wasn't supplied with the jacket so I'd assumed it couldn't be replaced/ upgraded.

After wearing these literally everyday for 9 months out of the year, for two years in a row, I'm impressed. This is my 3-seasons commuter jacket which I wear with the matching Andes V3 pants everyday in D.C. traffic an hour each way, 70+ miles, in all weather conditions to include rain and snow (not ice!). The Drystar liner is not bonded so if the storm is hard enough the water will come through the outer layer. How scary is that? not at all. That happened to me only one time in a torrential downpour, and it took 45 minutes to get through the outer layer. After that it never happened again. To be clear, that's about 200 trips, around 400 hours at something like 12,000 miles, and I've always stayed warm and dry. This is my go to jacket for sure and there is no wear at all. I wear the jacket with liner and stay warm down to about 40 degrees. Below that I wear a heated shirt underneath. I could probably easily go colder but why choose to be uncomfortable, and with heated shirt I've been good at 17 degrees in the rain. Also, I recommend adding the CE2 back and chest armor but leave the CE1 shoulder and elbows. I tried CE2 shoulder and elbows and changed them back. They're much thicker and horribly stiff and uncomfortable.
Edit: I'm now on my second year with this jacket and I've wore a Tech 5 airbag all season with this jacket and I highly recommend that over a back protector. I left the chest armor in.

This is not good for hot weather. In the summer months I use mesh jackets. I stop wearing anything Drystar after 70 degrees

To be honest there's no such thing as a 4-season jacket. The closest thing are bonded gortex jackets which cost $700 to $1000. For that much money I can just buy three jackets for three different seasons which works better anyways. I ride everyday regardless of rain. In the summer if I think it will rain I bring a water proof shell the throw over my T-GP Plus mesh air jacket

I finally pulled the trigger on ordring the Andes v3 jacket and pants. I went with XL size for both of them, so I can add an extra layer during the winter riding months here in Oregon. Next up is, I have to see if I can get put on a list to buy a pair of Tech 7 Enduro Drystar boots when they become available in my my size. Heck, I might just go for a pair of Toucans instead.... Gore-Tex is goood... :)

Hi, I'm an ebike rider. Usually bike riders don't need this level of protection. I've wiped out on a pedal bike with no pads at all and walked away. But my ebike is upgraded to go 40 mph and I feel like, at that speed, I can justify an entry level motorcycle suit. The PNW is wet, and our road are mostly unimproved. I'm also getting armored undershirts for the summer.

I wasn't too sure between the Andes v3 and the new Halo. The Halo is a lot more expensive and doesn't have a insulated liner but it's good when it's warm.
The Andes cost little money but doesn't offer great ventilation when it's hot outside, it has a insulated liner. For hot days I could just wear my Icon Mesh AF and switch over to the Andes v3 when the temperature drops...
    Why spend more really.
The Halo is pretty cool with all it's tricks but what a jump in price, it's almost at the same price as a Rev'It sand 4 H2O.

    • @sportbiketrackgear

This jacket can be used as an all season jacket. It has direct to skin ventilation which will work to cool you down in the summer and plenty of insulation for colder rides. IMO the only season this will struggle in is the hot summer. The ventilation in the jacket will help but it will not be as cool as a mesh summer jacket. - Van

Hi Brian. I’m a big RS TAICHI fan and was all set to purchase the RS Taichi Drymaster Frontier All Season Jacket RSJ709 (wish you had a video reviewing this jacket!) and RS Taichi Matrix Over Pants RSY547. Then I saw the new Alpinestars Andes V3 Drystar Waterproof jacket & pants. Now I’m torn. I live in the Bay Area, California, so our temps year round can vary drastically. What is your take on the choice between these two options? I’d really like an all-season set but I do have other gear I can wear deep into the summer. Thanks in advance!

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  3 роки тому

I hate to say this but I have not seen the Taichi jacket and pants you are referring to in this comment which makes it hard to have a real opinion. That said I really like what Alpinestars has done with the Andes V3. This jacket will be pretty solid at most temps but as expected will lean towards the warmer side when the temps are very hot and the best bet is a mesh jacket. - Van

The pockets are large enough to replace them. Personally I would leave them as I believe they will get the job done if you have a fall. Depending on how the jacket fits you may need to size up to allow for use of the airbag. You need about 4cm of additional space to allow for the airbag to deploy. The jacket does not need to be baggy, just enough space to allow the airbag to do it's thing. - Van

Why mention level 2 protection TWICE but neither times deny or confirm compatibility? Are you high? Just say yes or no.
Other than that, a very detailed and great video about this jacket

Can you wear this when it's 90+ or is that basically torture?

IMO over 90 in a waterproof jacket is never amazing. This one does have some direct to skin venting that will really help but it will still not vent like a nice mesh jacket will. - Van

This product is overpriced junk. I have previously had a tech road goretex.jackt and trousers which were were very heavy quality.products. this Andes V3 is cheap light nasty overpriced junk.

The Tech Road was much more expensive than the Andes V3 so it should have been better. I disagree with your statement 100%, this is a nice jacket that is priced fairly for todays market. - Van
