      Scarlet Rose I never understood the whole, "Muscles are a male power fantasy and aren't sexy at all" thing.
      Last time I checked Chris Hemsworth was voted the hottest man of the year and look at the muscles on that guy, even I can appreciate his sexiness and I'm a straight man.

      LiamFVJ I think the claim has something to do with men wanting to look that way, but the same could be said for women. People want to look appealing to whom they are attracted to, that's just how it goes for animals that reproduce sexually. The funny thing is women are usually considered the beautiful gender, while high expectations are put on men. You see a lot of "love your body" campaigns for women, but very few for men.

      1, seeing someone's abdominal muscles does not mean they are underweight, in fact it usually means that person is in good shape.
      2, an 8% to 6% fat is healthy for a man
      3, who the fuck are you to determine what people can and cannot find attractive?

      @DeepFriedOreoOffline 8 років тому +7

      +BronyGamer The word 'slut' comes from a long evolutionary line of terms coined BY women to create appearances about other women they feel threatened by. "That other women is able to flirt with guys and not feel embarrassed, or get nervous!? I bet she has so much sex! She's such a slut!" Men do this too, I am not trying to isolating women here, rather trying to explain the though process behind why they all deny this fact, in similar situation.

      @linksoni213 8 років тому +1

      DeepFried Oreo Very informative, but that doesn´t changes what i said :P, though what you say is true, itps also true that just because a person is confident to flirt to other people, that doesn´t make them a slut (also aplies with fuys) but when they go to the extrems they become real sluts, like starfire who literaly will ask for sex because she is slightly bored

    Humm that first comic also seems oblivious to the fact that the Teen Titans comic came before the cartoon. I mean the message seems to be that DC is stupid for changing Starfire in the comic, while they didn't, they changed it in the cartoon! If anything DC was nice enough to the fandom to not change the character into a version more similar to the cartoon, while they could have, given the show's popularity.
    Anyway the Power Girl and Wonder Woman comic is pretty funny.

      dagnytheartist If the reader estimate from that first comic is accurate at all, it's because graphic novels are on the decline. Aside from landmarks like The Watchmen and comic series/arcs that got their own movie or TV adaptations, almost no comics are bought or read nowadays. It's simply an art form on the downward spiral in popularity. There's a shitload to explore, especially if you're opening into an expanded universe such as the DCU, people who read them are often considered "childish", and superheroes are fading out of popularity because movie giants like Marvel are flooding the media with tons of repetitive, generic, and sub-par movies. I mean, I really getting into comics and I couldn't give a shit about most releases as of late. Unless it's something big like Civil War or unique like Deadpool, media about men in tights with logos on their chests is tiresome and uninteresting.
      Oh, and also on Starfire, I like how the author pretended she didn't exist until Teen Titans and then she was transformed.

      Eeeeeh, Red Hood and the Outlaws was shit as well and very much how it is described in the comic TJ discusses. That's not what she was like in the pre New52 comics, although she wasn't like in the TT show. Of course, changes in a reboot are normal, but turning her into a character that has sex to shut up someone who bores her while she exhibits no enjoyment or emotional investment and while she lacks any of the warmth and emotion of her previous incarnations is shit. Doesn't help that the art portrays her as wank-fodder as well, even more so than previously. So TJ's wrong here.
      TT:Go is still shit, of course.

      The Batman It was obviously intended to make male readers as uncomfortable as possible and nothing more. That artist knew exactly what HE was doing and it wasn't creating a sexualized version of Batman that would appeal to women.
      Unless we are to believe the general female community want a sugary sweet, doe eyed, puffy lipped Batman. Screw molding off his brooding badboy persona, no women are interested in that sort of thing.
      EDIT: Found out the artist is a straight male. Reaffirms my belief his only agenda was to make male viewers uncomfortable. That plus the fact Batman is a character that rarely shows skin and tends to be depicted as rather lean by superhero standards thus is a laughably poor choice to prove the "scantily cland men in comics are normally a male power fantasy" theory. Obviously chosen because he's pop culture with no account on how he fits the point the artist was trying to prove.

    That "power fantasy" thing drives me up a wall. First, it's such an obvious refusal to admit that there are cases when men are sexualized. Second, it implies that it's impossible to feel badass and powerful when playing as women - and it is very possible, just boot up any Metroid (but for Other M i guess).

    Feminists, real feminists, I wanna believe are working into important, political inequallities or outrageous sexism towards both genders.
    Let's be truthful, we talking about femonazis here or softcore, couch potatoes feminists who are also geeks and wanna bring their fevorite political views in every other portion of their lifes.
    It is important to remember that we are talking about comics here, and the fact that some wild and brave steps towards male, female equallity have been taken through comics and taught to young males of the past trhough them.
    Now, talking about sexism in comics towards women, only, would be the stupidest thing. Comics have ton of sexist ideas in their core, for both sexes. Someone could even come out and say that comics are more sexist towards male characters, been that once upon a time, in the dawn of superhero comics there were mostly male superheroes, jumping around, saying incredibly stupid stuff, having incredibly false bodystructure, wearing the absolutely ballsiest and tight clothes man had never create in real! That's what superhero comics are. Of course, they did evolve through time, but thei didn't forgot their insticts, and thats good in a way.
    Oh, and talking about the male power fantasy, that's even more bullcrap! If you actually believe that there are no men out there who don't won't to dream of being this absolutely grotesque mass of bulging veins and raging steroids, then you are a fucking sexist and should shut the fuck up before thinking a bit. Also, who the fuck are you to say that no woman didn't have the equivalent female power fantasy, of being tall, busty and her face almost painted like a doll? You are a fucking ignorant oppressor who attacks civillians, that's all you are!
    The best thing about this tumblr feminists is that many of them are gay, lesbians, males, lgbt people who fight for their right to be different, but they hate variety! Yeah, seriously, you people who think the same way many of the writers of these comic strips think are actually, actively, fight against variety. You are attacking freedom of thought, speach and choice just because somebody attacked yours in the past or, even worse, cause you don't like things which don't play nice with your all so unique, free and amazing labeling system! WAKE UP! You are growing up to be your parents or your opressors, doing the same thing that has been done to you to others, thinking that that's the right way, no, that that is the ONLY way!
    At the end of the day, I don't care if you think you are doing what it's right. I don't care if you think that this way, your way, the world will become a utopia. I don't care for your pain, your suffering, your credentials and your justified rage. And I especially don't care if you, personally, don't believe all this, but you will uphold it and aid it just because you think that your political group needs support, even when it's saying something you don't agree with or think it's wrong. You are making a better world for you and you are fucking everybody else. YOU-DON'T-CARE, for people who don't support you or are not like you, so why should I? You making the world a worse place with your acts of hate and you should know better, because you have lived the worse.

      I don't think that's the point. What the comic was trying to say to me was "super heroins are hot and thats sexist, but superheroes are not because I personally like big eyes and that isn't sexist" basically, which it's bullshit. Personal taste is one thing and impossible beauty standards are another.
      If a man doesn't like big boobs doesn't mean that superheroine are any less sexist, or if I don't like six packs doesn't mean batman isn't sexist either. Feminists have to understand that if there's sexism it's in both ways, not just with females. And even, since those fictional characters are capable of impossible things, I don't see why they shouldn't have an impossible beauty and costume.

    • @Hammerhead547
      @Hammerhead547 10 років тому +13

      The problem is that some people conflate being "desirable" with being attractive and for a person to be desirable they generally have to have more to their beingthan looks which is why feminists hate superheroes.
      They look at Starfire and Batman and they don't see strong self empowered characters with distinct elements to their personalities who use their abilities for the betterment of others, they see reflections of everything they can't be (attractive, likeable, decent, just, fair, reasonable) and will never be (valuable to society) and they get fantastically jealous.because they know people see those characters as role models and see them as miserable anti-social harridans.

      That's a rather bold conclusion, and a rather strong implied accusation.
      Standard human behavior accounts for it (confirmation bias, wanting to ban things SJWs dislike, bias to female "problems" and male "aggression", and so forth).
      In addition it's my impression that SJWs tend to be more concerned about being perceived as moral, good people... than actually advancing morality and reflecting on it. Rather standard human behavior again. Pro-life and pro-choice are both good examples of that (most on either extreme can't seem to make an argument that doesn't start with the conclusion).
      It seems that even today, the best way to show your tribe that you're a good person, is to shoot someone from a different tribe.

    1st Comic: Not about "Girls wearing less clothing = Misogyny" It's about how Starfire is literally a boring slut in the New 52. In the old comics she was fun, in the new comics she is boring. Have you read the New 52? It's fucking boring! The first one wasn't about Feminism, it was about Misrepresentation of a beloved character in comics through the means of making her a very boring vapid sex object. In the old comics her sexuality was fun and it had a lot of mystery and play behind it. In the new ones it isn't fun, it's dull and stupid and it makes me feel weird.
    2nd Comic: Again, not the point! This comes from a continuing comic series called Shortpacked! in it, Amber is an insecure and very odd person. No one takes her seriously because she's no Insecure. Later in the comic she grew confidence and was pretty damn cool after that. It's it a male power fantasy to draw beefy, muscle bound HULKS! Not hunks. They are not the same thing. Superman is a Hulk, Batman is a Hulk, that Yaoi you showed? Hunks. Plus, Yaoi is made for women! That is why they look beautiful, the same way that Hentai is made for Men, that's what the girls look like the mans ideal sex objects. That is the point of porn! Porn is meant to have ones inner most sexual desires met, it isn't a power fantasy, but a sexual one. Don't confuse the two. Yaoi = Hunky man, Women's sexual desires met. Superheros = Power fantasy, men wanting to be giant muscle bound hulks. You're confusing the two TJ.
    4th Comic: That was the joke, pointing away from the obviousness of Power Girls costume just to show cleavage. The joke was, because it's so obvious why this costume is a bad design, let me point out in another way why these don't work. Wonder Woman? They fixed her. Moving on.
    5th Comic: ... I have no discourse over what you said. That was actually right.
    Maybe on the Tumblr pages these comics where on, they had some message that made them seem like this wan't the intended purpose. Feminists are weird, but these comics weren't about Feminism, they where about representation. Plus, NO ONE IS TRYING TO TAKE PORN AWAY FROM US GUYS! WE ARE NOT CAVEMEN! WE HAVE TECHNOLOGY! Guys, we're always gonna have our Power Fantasies and Sexual Fantasies and all that nonsense, but when that's marketed for a more broader audience, that's when we need to make it for a more broader audience. Porn is Fantastic! Football and WWE and UFC are amazing! And some women like those things too! And that's good! But stuff like Movies and Books and TV shows and Comics really can't be marketed to a broad audience when it's so obvious that its for a small niche of people. That's what these comics are trying to get across. Great job TJ, ya made me defend the Feminists, AND I FUCKING HATE FEMINISTS!

    • @hemanownsyou
      @hemanownsyou 10 років тому +65

      Here's a little newsflash: the "male power fantasy" isn't actually all that different from the sexual fantasies of women. A lot of what women find sexually attractive in men can be found in he "male power fantasies." Also, not everyone is attracted to the same damn thing. Just because some women like the YAOI guys, doesn't mean that none of them like the bigger, muscular guy.
      Also, part of the male fantasy is being attractive and desirable to women. It's not only about being physically strong. Sure, maybe in plenty of these comics many of the male designs are exaggerated to the point of unattractiveness, but the idea is still there.
      Oh, and no one is trying to take porn away? That is a load of crap. There are plenty of feminists who try to appeal to policy makers to ban porn. Not all of them are okay with it. Many even like to equate guys who watch porn as creep and even rapists. So saying NO ONE is trying to take it away is a fucking lie.

    • @JakeBolt
      @JakeBolt 10 років тому +2

      You're not getting it. It can be strewed both ways too ya know. Not all women find the muscle bound macho man attractive, and while some like that, it's not a black and white deal. Also, saying comics are just for men is insulting to people like Gail Simone. Also, they can't do that thanks to something called, oh I dunno, on the tip of my tongue, it's an obscure thing you probably never heard of it, oh yeah THE FIRST AMENDMENT! Plus, are you a fucking lawyer? What's with the Semantics shit? "Saying NO ONE", shut up. No need to be specific because you know what I meant, asshole. Also, what's with the capitalization of Yaoi? You just need to capitalize the first letter.

    • @hemanownsyou
      @hemanownsyou 10 років тому +33

      I understand it perfectly fine. It's you who aren't getting it. You basically said that women don't find big, muscular guys attractive. I told you that there are some that do. Learn to read. That's not true at all. Quit spouting off bullshit. You also know what else? Not all of us guys like women to look like Power Girl or Wonder Woman. We have different tastes, too, genius. Also, where the fuck did I say that comics was just for men? I didn't say or imply that at all, so watch the pathetic assumptions.
      The fact that you had to complain about the way I typed yaoi shows me that you have a weak argument.

    • @JakeBolt
      @JakeBolt 10 років тому +1

      Where did I say "Women don't find big muscular guys attractive."? I never said that. I said Porn was used to fulfill sexual desires, whatever those may be. Also, lets get into a discussion about gay men portrayed in comics shall we? How insensitive and over femmy some of them men look and act in those comics. Name me 5 comics that wrote a gay male character in a believable way. Comicbooks, not webcomics, and they have to identify as male, no Trans. Furthermore, the point of the joke was that instead of focusing on the blatantly obvious, they focused on the not so blatantly obvious. Also, yes you did imply it. You said, and I quote "Also, part of the male fantasy is being attractive and desirable to women. It's not only about being physically strong. Sure, maybe in plenty of these comics many of the male designs are exaggerated to the point of unattractiveness, but the idea is still there.", implying that all comics are is some male power fantasy, when that's not true. Also, unattractiveness is not a word, you say "To the point of being Unattractive.". Learn to spell and use proper grammar. Also, only a crybaby would try to use something that doesn't belong in an argument and say "That proves you have nothing to argue about, so I win". Also, asshole, who made you ruler of women? Who says you can dictate what women like and don't like?

      Oh no you didn't. You did not just use "male power fantasy" in earnest. Look, the term falls flat on it's face with it's monolithic tone right out of the gate and only really serves the feminist agenda of trying to establish double standards. How so? Take for example how feminists claim that Barbie inflicts terrible psychological damage upon young girls that contribute to them having terrible self-esteem issues later down the line. Point said feminists to He-Man and even insinuate how him being ripped as all fuck might do the exact same to similar shit to young boys? Oh well that doesn't count because He-Man is a "male power fantasy," so really boys have no room to complain. Fuck that shit. No really, fuck that shit and fuck anyone who actually uses the phrase "male power fantasy."

    I think some women have to stop forcing themselves to like comics meant for men in the first place. I'm not saying women don't like super heroes but that not every comic has to appeal to women. And that's where manga come in, it has a good variety of different plots, genres, characters and stuff that are aimed at either female, male or both. And different age groups. You're just gonna have to do some digging. It's not all Naruto and Dragon Ball. And not just for teens and children. If you still want western comics then I'm sure there's some out there but there might be less compared to the classic super hero comics. In worst case people can always make their own comics and try to get it published. Someone might wanna read about feminist, fully covered female heroes. Who knows.

    • @karif7369

      But I like comics and it had absolutely nothing to do with any male, past or present. =(
      Heck, I went to college to DRAW comics. Soooo yeah.
      I also generally disagree with most of the unrealistic costumes from both sides of the spectrum, male and female. Personally, I feel that the objectification of both genders is rather stupid in comics; I'd like to see more realistic women AND men. Though there are plenty of occasions when the in-your-face over-sexual portrayals is annoying, and I do agree that a lot of it could easily be shifted into a slightly more reasonable light.
      Example: that new spiderwoman cover isn't just overly-sexual, but an utterly stupid, unrealistic pose. Unless you WANT to face-plant when you jump. There was an equally sexy (but not in that "LOOK AT MY ASS" way), "fixed" version of nearly the same pose made by a professional artist critiquing the pose, if you google it you'll see what I mean.
      Also, in Manga, I prefer Hellsing. Just sayin'.

If I as a 6-year-old figured that these are just people's fantasies and nothing to aim at, then WHY ARE ADULT WOMEN NOT SEEING IT? Getting angry about the drawer's fantasies and good stories with characters that are unreal is retardation. If feminists want better female protagonists they should make them, not us. We do what we want and they can go publish their indie games and -comics, as those are THEIR stories with THEIR characters.

      I said it's annoying, mostly because I've had artistic training, not because I'm female or a feminist (I'm actually not a feminist by the modern definition of the term). Her pose is so bone-breaking that I flinch when I see it. Rub your chest against the floor and then look straight up from that position, see how far you get. You might need to dislocate a few bones in your spine to do it. Then, LEAP, as high as you can go, from that position with your butt in the air, on your knees, and your chest on the floor with the broken neck. Also, record it, because I want to see it too, because that'll be some funny shit.
      You must have been one smart cookie as a six year old. Most of the ones I knew were trying their darnedest to jump off the highest rock to fly like Superman, or run faster than the Flash, etc.

    When it comes to sexy women's costumes, let's face reality - the reproductive strategy of the female is to attract and keep a male (this requires sexiness) and the reproductive strategy of the male is to squirt his seed wherever it might be accepted. Frankly, if it weren't for STDs, I don't think we would ever have come up with ideas like marriage. While this can be rewarding for both parties, for the most part marriage is everything that is contrary to the basic drives of males, and everything that fits the basic drives of females.
    This won for a simple reason - sexual selection. Those males that did not accept the needs of the female were refused mating privileges, and those that did were accepted. We evolved to be semi-monogamous.

    • @spleenlucky862
      @spleenlucky862 9 років тому +2

      Actually it's the other way around. In nature the males are the one wearing lots of colours, big horns, more fur etc to seduce the females. Females are the one being picky because it takes a lot of energy and time to create and protect the baby so they have to find the best male so that it is not a waste. Males have to attract as much females as they can and work very hard at it. For some reasons, the roles have been reversed in the human species, men are very dull and women are colourful and get noticed. Weird.

      Spleen Lucky "For some reasons, the roles have been reversed in the human species, men are very dull and women are colourful and get noticed. Weird." It's not weird. Women aren't naturally colourful or sparkly, they just wear makeup, fancy clothes and use cosmetic products. That's entirely artificial. You can't compare it to a tropical bird's plumage or a lion's lustrous mane; women don't naturally have mascara or foundation on their faces the way a male bird of paradise naturally has dazzling feathers. If women didn't wear makeup or fancy clothes, they would look just as "dull" as men apparently do.

      Yes, but marriage is not required for that. A man who WANTS to take care of his children can do it several different ways, but marriage is a way for a woman to try to ensure that the man will do this whether he is highly inclined to or not.

    I thought they had a good argument with wonder women and her breast plates being a liability. The argument about batman wasn't valid as batman uses his cape for many tactical purposes such as a shield, fire protection and the ability to glide.
    In most cases a super hero costume is designed to fit that super hero's needs, tight suits are actually a tactical advantage which allows better movement and control during a fight.
    Sure it's fantasy but they're not just based on nonsense, they start from a logical perspective.

And let's be honest fighting in a tight suit is useless if your heavy ass cape is impeding your movement. DC made the character, they really didn't need to make her that way. The alien race could be outgoing without needing to be like this.

      He has said this OVER and OVER, and the reasoning behind this is very obvious: it is what he is around most of the time and what he sees, and he can't specify which group he is targeting in every single video he does; it is repetitive and redundant because if you know and research TJ, you would know this. It is not his responsibility to notify people constantly who he targets, it's the viewers responsibility to do the research. Feminism is an ideology, atheism isn't, and two of the main traits of ideologies is that membership is voluntary and that one must subscribe to a number of beliefs.
      It is okay to generalize feminists, for they have agreed to share the same general beliefs. Sure, you can argue that there are various kinds of feminism. But if there's more than one kind of feminism and it is down to subjective interpretation, then why treat it as if it holds any objective meaning at all?
      In other words: Either all feminists belong in the same box, or the ideology is bullshit.
      This is true for all ideologies, by the way.

      Livthru And even a huge dong can not be very sexy, you need to remember that some women see a penis as a funny little thing that can be made fun of (not the size but what it looks like). For us this was not about whether women have it more dificult or not, but rather about how there are a million things they can do to make themselves sexually appealing to us (in a physical way), but only one way we can be physically appealing to them.

Starfire's sexuality was always a big part of her character but it was never supposed to be the only notable thing about the character. I think the comic book world is a "man dominated fantasy", means, most content creators are men,
    Back in the day when batman was created, these men were treated like shit for being geeks, nerds, no life man-children jerkoffs who would spend 8+ hours of their day drawing dolls and heroes like immature dorks who were told a million times to "get a life".
    Now that batman is popular, now that batgirl, wonder woman, power girl, starfire and everyone else is popular, NOW theyre "artists", now theyre awesome and now feminists want to change everything because they want in on the popular thing ?? NO, back then these people would struggle to get a girlfriend because they were not the "male" model they wanted, if this was born as a male dominated fantasy and it continues to be so, suck it up, the creators of these comics had to suck it up when they were told they were dorks.
    Again, feminists just poison everything, they'll find something bad in everything and I've been wanting to get on their side to the point where they can say "we are equal" but no, they'll continue with their shit because the modern feminist is nothing but a whinny bitch

      I'll agree on a lot of points, but as more and more female audiences turn to comics as a source of entertainment, naturally they will want to see more female characters they can relate to and more comics that cater to them. This in and of itself is not an unreasonable demand/request, but the solution is definitely not to wage war on boobs and classic male-centered comics in general.
      A much better solution would be for them to actually create new comics, create new characters, new stories, new things, the way they like, to cater to whatever audience they want to. It would give them what they want, speak to a whole new audience, and create more options for future generations of comic book lovers.
      It's actually quite shameful that instead of choosing to create, people would choose to destroy and attempt to censor what has already been established.

Of course, I couldn't get any costumes because my father wouldn't allow me to go outside in something that revealing, plus I live in fucking Ohio! Bitch, at least let the costume have sleeves! Honestly, not a huge comic guy and got into DC from the animated universe. Starfire in TT was one of my favorite heroes because of how relatable she is and because many of us strive for the same personal transformation she goes through in life. Insecurity is something that I think we all have to deal with when we're teens. But having a fictional character to relate to like Starfire is pretty cool. Seeing how she deals with her own insecurities, and how she grows more and more comfortable with her own idiosyncrasies, was really refreshing in a hero. And for her to become this very unabashedly confident, comfortable, and completely sincere hero later in her life is something that I think should be fully supported. She couldn't care less what other people think about how she dresses or how she expresses herself. She fully loves her friends as if they were her own family. She is completely accepting of herself and her friends. She doesn't hide who she is, and that's admirable in a hero.

    io9 of the Gawker Media pretty much made one huge manifesto against 'COMICS BEING SEXIST' and they let loose the Jezebel radical feminist hounds onto that page.
    They pretty much set up as much strawman as possible, but the funniest one is this:
    "Comics has always denounced/pushed away women". Which is kind of funny, because so many stuck up people (many of whom women) have looked down on comics as a hobby for geeks and losers. And now that feminism has properly permeated and infected the mainstream, they want to wrest the hobby and the craft of comics away from the 'geeks/nerds' who has helped the artform thrive by calling them losers and sexists while they start hogging up the media as a bastion of social justice.
    These people are fucking DANGEROUS to artistic craft. They already redesigned most girls so they are de-sexualized, basically are making comickers put in feminist friendly stories and making sure that artists are terrified of doing anything that could potentially offend a feminist.
    This is the future we will have if these demagogues and whiners have their way. Instead of any kind of a healthy and respectful approach, they intend to demonize all fans, push out anyone who doesn't walk lock in step with them and go for a bridge burning methodology. This is feminism as it stands today. And I can't fucking believe so many people are buying into their poisonous world view.

    • @Shippoyasha

      ruy1981 Say what you will about these SJWs, but they are crafty. They know that the way to make big companies capitulate is to make sure they cry about it loud enough that the mass media will crucify them in the public arena and make a huge PR nightmare for anyone who dare oppose them.
      What worse is that they often tap into the mainstream's contempt for enthusiast hobbies such as videogames, comicbooks and others and they tap into the whole 'hardcore fans are losers' stereotype. All this so they can push out the core fans so they inhabit the new space as the 'enlightened' new age fandom.
      This is some scary as fuck cult shit we're looking at.

      I just wish TJ looked into this enough to understand that it's mainly the NEW Starfire that people have a problem with. It's not just feminists, it's lots of people who feel she's a hollow shell of her former self. She's always been super sexy, but at least she used to be more of her own person. What TJ described is cool. But she's only, like, half of that, now.

      Well, yeah, unfortunately it is the sheer sex appeal that feminists are focusing on, but that one panel that satirizes how she acts, now, isn't a gross exaggeration. There's just something about her that's so weird and cold and hard to connect with. She almost feels robotic, sometimes. She's forward, but there's no real fun to it, no OOMPH, no meaning. She's just made to cater to teenage boys who don't know how to talk to girls yet and dream of some hot babe just falling into their lap like Starfire does and doing whatever they want her to.

  • @timpind.8237
    @timpind.8237 7 років тому +5

    Eh, I personally prefer the teen-titans Starfire. She's a bit cooler that way, honestly. Not that there's anything wrong with the comic-book version of Starfire, but for some reason, she just seems more enjoyable that way. Again, I'm not a feminist, but I do prefer less-humanlike characters.

  • @kgamer121
    @kgamer121 10 років тому +5

    One point I continuously see these feminists saying is that the amount of comics geared towards women should increase. Who's job is it to make these comics for women? People who make comic books can make whatever the heck they want, so if the majority of comic book artists are men, they will probably keep drawing what they want. So my point is, if women want female oriented comics more with depictions of men and women that are drawn to their tastes, maybe they should stop bitching about it and actually get up and take a chance in the free market, write their own comics, and try to advertise it to women. Women also have the freedom to draw whatever comics they want, so maybe instead of trying to police other people's fantasy comics, they should get off their asses and start making their own.

    • @kgamer121
      @kgamer121 10 років тому

      ***** Yep. Perhaps there's a reason as to why men tend to prefer comics and women tend to prefer romance novels or movies.
      Speaking of romance novels/movies, men could make the same argument about women's fantasy media of choice, and how the man is misrepresented in those. Men are usually portrayed in romance movies/novels as these chivalrous knights in shining armor who are self sacrificing to please women, whilst the women are basically allowed to be self entitled absorbers in 99% of these chick flicks. Men could say "Hey, look at the standards that are placed on men in these novels!" or "Hey, that's reinforcing gender roles and double standards!". We could make the same argument about women's romance novels.

    Feminist Idea of Comic Fan: "That makes me feel uncomfortable"
    REAL comic fan: "Obviously the writer is taking a tongue in cheek approach at emulating the feminine/power rations in japanese comics, DC is well known for its swipes at Japanese Mangas and their love of overly feminine males with massive super powers. Also, are you trying to make a point? I mean, if that was to make me feel uncomfortable, you might as well get Tentacles in there, since I read Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, as well as many more raunchy Manga and Fan Comics that push the boundaries of what Television could never do... Also if you want to make a point, try drawing him in the ACTUAL DC female style instead of anime, the most that annoys me is your lack of understanding of the medium."

  • @Rex1234ify
    @Rex1234ify 10 років тому +6

    The comic with Batman is wrong on so many levels. The writer took what she likes in a man and pretended its the same for every woman. Also there are characters like Spidey and Flash that fits her description(sort of). Even for men, certain ways women are drawn in comics aren't that sexualizing to them, because they may not like their body type, but not all men are the same and not all female comic characters are drawn the same. Bottom line, both men and women are drawn with exaggerated physiques, and in revealing and/or impossibly tight suits. In these drawings they showcase what sexualize the particular sex, like for men, the chest, abs, arms, and groin, and for women, the breast, but, legs, and hourglass figure.
