Phil is such an awesome guy! He came to the music shop I work at and schooled me on these and gave me a bunch of knowledge on synthesizers. Great approach and such a patient down to earth guy.
I remember that the ability to do bell tones was a revelation, compared with synths like the Mini Moog. Not quite a sampler, but still an expansion of what was possible.
I’m currently using my second dx100, and a sonicware liven xfm, and in the past I have also owned a dx21. And I can tell you programming fm is not nearly as hard as most people believe.
as usual...thanks...nice, a bit different... but already got mx49 with that special Greek software enabling 16 diff sounds to go off all at once, as layers...
Really hope we will get to see full size versions of these. Take that concept of the multitouch sliders and nice screen on that Reface and put it in a four octave keyboard with full-size keys and it would be perfect! Increase the polyphony to 20 voices (this is only 8 I believe) and double the operators and it would be a huge hit in the synth market to go alongside a lot of the newer analog synths. Synthwave And retro synths are popular again. We have new Prophets, new Oberheims, new Moogs, new Wavetable synths, new sample based synths...yet no new full-size DX. Be a perfect time for one.
I like this gentleman approach. This review should take longer. Very useful and inspirational,...

Superb presentation! I've watched a bunch of videos on this synth, and I think it's the first time I've seen the multi-touch demonstrated.
I trust this man completely
I wish they made full sized versions

The host plays with soul.
I like it when he's lost in space at 03:10 🙂

One question about the DX reface, I remember reading that the DX7 mark II had what they called bi-timbrality, does that apply to this new DX reface?

Why can't they make this keyboards the normal size?
You can connect them to other Yamaha keyboards to get a full size
