Let’s just assume it needs EVERYTHING ! I would , and do the points and condensers and the carb and coils w/wires and of course the lower unit seals ! Everything ! Which I’m sure your going to do but showing others your process in which you arrive at the decision ! Funny thing is I just did a 1967 Evinrude 18 hp Fastwin electric start conversion ! I wanted a key switch but the customer wanted push buttons ( start and kill ) guess who won ! Lol
kodibass very nice compression numbers for being dry ! We have had really bad luck with the Chinese carb kits , the seat is metric and the needles tend to stick ! Sierra not to bad but I spend a little extra and get the BRP stuff .
Great video..Brought my crusty 69' skitwin back to life just as you are except I had a brain fart on the spark and thought it should spark like an electronic ignition model thought I had no spark and actually did but jumping a smaller gap.Kinda wasted money on new plug wires as a result before figuring this out.Wish the flywheel came off that easy on the skitwin. It was a struggle.Just sold the Skitwin. Was fun to learn on.
There goes my supper outboard man to the rescue of 18 hp E rude all salty and full of critters and I like inside out boards and I think that they are the best videos on UA-cam and I like Kobe Bass and I like His songs.and I like when he puts a smile on my face the Ajax can't wash off 😁🎸👍
Hey Kodiak great video, I have a 71 18 hp evinrude it's a nice outboard but I want to put a starter on it, what were the part numbers for the starter and solenoid thanks
Good info video - kudos for that. That said, too much dead air time, could be a lot shorter. I hope you see this as a positive comment as that is the intent.
A little sanding on the INSIDE of that corroded flywheel would be good idea too. I have had more than I can count that either had no fire or weak spark til it was cleaned.
@@kodibassInsideoutboards much appreciated, iv looked for the starter using the number 320012 but I'm only getting the mount bracket for a starter. If possible could u please help me find the correct one. ✌️ 👍 🏴
Hey Kodi. Long time viewer here. Excited for this build been wanting electric start for a while. My recoil does same as that one lol. Now I know what to do. I have a 1972 20hp Johnson. I may be wrong, but their essentially the same motor correct? The only difference I see is my coils are under the flywheel. Must be a rude thing. I can only seem to get mine going with a can of starter spray needle is clean and not pitted. Ideas? Also my mag plate does not wanna go wide open it is binding up somewhere. Ideas? Oh yeah it’s my Bday today thanks for dropping this vid. 😀😀😀
+MW, Happy Birthday! Yes your jonny is the same 22ci motor, If you are using start fluid, Check to make sure your choke flap is closing all the way shut, If so I would guess you need a good carb rebuild with New compression washers As to your , If your mah plate is not rotating fully, It could be at several points, But often I find the tiller sprockets are of a tooth, Thus not turning the riser post that attaches to the mag bell crank arm. kodi.
kodi thanks for the fast response it’s not any of the shift linkage I disconnected it from the mag plate and holding onto the mag plate itself trying to turn it still binds. Could it be the plug wires , kill switch wires or anything else?
I’ve got a 1977 Volvo (Crescent) 14hp outboard. It needs a lot of work but think spares are rare. Is it worth restoring? It needs a tiller too. Or do I get a Johnson/Evinrude? Great project and video
+RT5 watch my 2 videos here, Very oddly constructed 14 HP rare outboard need more than just TLC For sure ... kodi If you r wanting a motor to use, & not to display, I would get something newer & with good parts availability , In the above videos I go over your motor 1 section @ a time, kodi
Kodi thank you for adding this to your play list. Really enjoyed part 1. My question is, This you said is a '70's something 18hp. Are the parts for the starter, and brackets the same for the '61 fastwin? if not could you give those part numbers. My engine is running, just arthritis, and back problems is making it hard for me to pull start. Thanks. Eric.
I've got the bracket on my 18hp but I've been putting off installing the starter and solenoid because I'm worried about the added weight. How much weight do you think electric start adds ?
Your lighting and quality of videos are attrocious. Take a look at Michaels Outboard Marina videos and you will see the difference. You will get a lot more viewers and also take off your dark gloves and clothing or at least get a better designated work area for videoing. Talk plainer and get rid of the goofiness and show your tester settings better.
will check his vids 4 sure. U do understand U R watching a 4 year old vid I Hope things on my newer vids have gotten a tad better, Thank U for your constructive points, wish more would do/say as u have done every lil Bit Helps. thank you! & I mean that! kb
@@kodibassInsideoutboards Wasn’t trying to be mean. I enjoyed because i have the exact same motor in my storage unit and i do have the parts to redo it. i will follow your instructions as best as i can. I did not ever see part 2. i will have to look harder and go back thru it.
Mr. Kodi shore do like watching .Looking forward to all kinds of video's and I like outboards too.

Hi Kodi, good start on part one. I like your flywheel puller. I have one like it so will start using it with bolts. Good use of it for sure👍
+TWS, Yep I have several but this one is small & way easy 2 use. kodi

One of my fav's 👍
A little sanding on the INSIDE of that corroded flywheel would be good idea too. I have had more than I can count that either had no fire or weak spark til it was cleaned.
So we did everything but add electric start in this video. 📹
Fabulous. Now can you add a battery charging system as well?
Hey man, new to chanel, and it's exactly what I'm looking for. I got a evenrude sporster 25hp. Would the starter be the same model number.
Might not B the same model# but it will fit & work. kodi

Help! 1964 18 spitting gas out the carburetor Venturi causing mixture flooding. Is that a reed valve problem? Thanks if u can respond!
+JB first I would check your float needle & seat for dirt ,pitting, corrosion etc. If that is all good very well could be a bad reed valve. kodi
Do you work on Johnson 1964 60hp?

+TS27,, Starter, solenoid, cables, approx 10 lbs, The Battery to power it is the the weight, average 20+ lbs, kodi
Will these part numbers work on a Evinrude 15hp?
+CB, No the OMC 15 HP IS Totally different, The 15 hp electric starter is much smaller, & bolts on directly to the
block, & uses no solenoid . kodi
C'mon man.... One Part, Multiple Numbers... ie "part numbers"
+WR very comon in the OMC World. kodi
@@kodibassInsideoutboards no, actually I meant "part numbers" vs "parts numbers"
