I used to live in Mangagoy, Mindanao, East coast. My GF daughter's godfather was shot and unalived going home at night. Recently she sent me a picture of her uncle unalived, right in the head. Her sister's husband was unalived with a knife in a bar, case of wrong identity. She would tell not to go out at night and avoid some main streets. Another GF from Bilarin, her uncle was macheted on the neck. He's unalived. Guys we are tourist and guest here. Please just do tourist things like when foreigners visit our country. Stay safe. Welcome to the Philippines.
@@jamesharding1234 definitely I used to walk around Iloilo City, Dumaguete, and tons of other cities at night. I wouldn't do it in Manilla, Cebu City, or on Mindanao though.
Even we filipinos stay cautious when going to lvl 3 warning places or a red zone. It is a red zone and the warning is there for a reason. Always respect the people and the culture. Keep safe all.
Money or no money, Elliot should have left the area to save his life. Elliot Eastman didn't take the warning seriously. He's living in the red zone of the Southern Philippines. Many got kidnapped years ago. The southern part of the Philippines is a hotbed for insurgency. Foreigners should be a little cautious staying in this part of the Philippines. I'm a Pilipina, but I will never go to that part of my country. Their mindset is different than of those living in the North side of the Philippines. I'm sure not all of them are insurgents, but a lot of these groups lives in the south.
@hazegear3643 for you it's safe but for others it's not. A lot of insurgents and a lot of Abu Sayeff sympathizers. So as a foreigner never ever go there. Even if a Muslim says it's ok it's not okay for a foreigner to be in a place like that lol. He was dumb to stay in that place and now look at him. Hopefully he's ok and let this be A LESSON FOR ALLLLLLL FOREIGNERS. IF YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO B3 IN A PLACE THEN take your ass home and don't ever go back
I read somewhere the wife was not home and I thought not like a Muslim girl married would be gone without husband in middle of night. This whole case sounds fishy to me.

It doesn't matter if he had money or not, if his life was in danger he should have fled the place and ask for help from the authorities. There is a Marine and Army detachment in that area or the police. He could've seeked help/shelter from them if he thought the threat was real. As a Filipino christian, I wouldn't be caught in that part of the world where these Muslim gangs and rebels are near... I can't believe that he did not do anything to get out.
Been to that area once on my scooter. My filipina wife showed concern from the start. We were on a back road and I heard a gun shot. About wrecked my scooter. Just before this happened we were told not to go down that road. Ofcourse I go and do things just because I always was a rebel. This gun shot was my tire blowing. I pulled over and the girls in the field picking veggies came over. Shortly after, I seen a guy walking over followed by a few others. I about freaked out when I noticed rifles slung over his back. The other three guys joined him. All had weapons. I couldn't believe when they took my tire off and took off with it. When they came back my tire was fixed. Long story short.... they wouldn't except any money from me. I never went there again. My wife told me maybe a month after this incident that her father put the word out to leave me alone. She wouldn't answer some of my questions but I'm told her father was pretty respected on that mountain, and I have my own thoughts on that. A Canadian got kidnapped in that area. I asked my wife if her father knew where he might be. Her answer was.... Ofcourse
Wow. Luckily she was looking out for you. I've heard maybe Filipinos talk about the safety of various parts of Mindanao. 100% there are some places a white man should not go.
Yeah Philo people especially men are big on respect and it goes a long way. My bet would be yes he put word out and it was lucky he did. Crazy story I'm glad your ok. Best wishes. 👍
- According to the PNP (Philippine National Police) in a press conference, the (US) FBI is no longer involved and has gone home, so to speak. The reason, investigation and evidence indicate this is a "local matter" and does not appear to be the work of terrorists or other militant groups. On local crimes the FBI does not have jurisdiction (as our host reminded). The only way the FBI could be involved is if the Philippine Govt. invited its participation. The PNP did not extend that invitation. (Again, because this is a purely local matter.) - The PNP has two persons of interest. They have an eyewitness who saw one of the perps (who was uncovered during the abduction) earlier working/repairing the boat used in the abduction. They have a composite of the guy, that's been distributed to all PNP departments. - The PNP believe all facts and evidence points to this being a personal matter, not the work of any organized group. On the record they have said "this is not a kidnap case." - The PNP theory they like, the perp is the Muslim wife's ex boyfriend. He wanted to get back with her, Eastman was in the way (and now no longer is). The police in another news conference implied they know who committed the crime. - PNP officials believe Eastman has been "terminated." (The best evidence of this: it has been over a week since Eastman was taken. In that time no one has come forward to claim responsibility, no ransom demands have been made, and Eastman's family members have not been contacted.) - The rewards were posted for someone to snitch on the location of the two persons of interest. - Because this is a personal local crime, Philippine Army and PNP SWAT members have ceased searching for him. The matter is now solely in the hands of local PNP LEOs. Bottom Line: IMO as to where this will now go: The Muslim community did not like Eastman (as Eastman said many times in his videos). Eastman was an outsider, a foreigner, and a young man who disrespected the Muslim faith and the predominantly Muslim population in the community. Because of these circumstances there's a strong likelihood the Muslim community will rally around the (Muslim?) perpetrators, not Eastman. They are going to protect one of their own, not the SHIRTLESS, rude, crude outsider. IOW, justice for Eastman is not on that Muslim community's radar. - Moreover, would someone in the community violate his/her Muslim faith to snitch on a Muslim community member, for money? I don't see that happening, especially when the victim is someone like Eastman, who in their eyes was disrespectful, evil, and a sinner. P.S. The PNP and local politicians figure into the equation. The local PNP LEOs live among the Muslim community and I'm sure many of them are Muslim. I can't see them being too concerned about solving this case, because then their fellow community members will turn on them, for looking like they took Eastman's side, not theirs. The symbolic rewards have been announced. The entire matter has been reduced to a simmer. I can see the "Eastman case" fading into obscurity.

Your welcome. Stay tuned as there should be new info coming out soon. Like I said in the video, if he is assumed alive by law enforcement they will move quickly.
Three thoughts for expats. 1) When gang or terrorist activity meets a corrupt police force, you can't live safely in this area. Guayaquil, Ecuador, parts of Venezuela are examples. 2) Eliott's relationship with his wife was quick and exploitive. Quick courtship and marriage followed by giving a lot of money to her family. You can smoke out exploitive relationships if you go slow, get to know the family, learn their language and watch them over time. Never allow yourself to be a cash cow for their needs. And 3) Like the video commentator said, you've got to be ready to get out of Dodge if you smell trouble coming. Unaccountable police provide perfect cover for bullies, exploiters and terrorists. Pull up stakes and get out if your spidey sense is telling you that you are going to be a target.
I’m an American who has been living in Thailand for the best part of 20-years. Been to the Philippines several times and I was always told Mindanao is a no go area due to a large Islamist group living there. Thailand in the early 2000s had the same problem in Yala and Pattani near the Malaysia border with bombings. As an expat it is very important not to go into an area blindly, but I hope everything will work out for him in the end.
As you are familiar with the area and the politics surrounding an expat lifestyle, you are definitely the go-to source for news regarding this case. Am I alone in thinking that we shouldn't have much faith in local police and investigators? Resources are thin and law enforcement in that area can only do so much, if they want to do anything at all. Hell, they could even be in on it. It's good to hear the FBI is involved but I was unaware that they can only do what the Philippines allows them to do. This young man ignored the obvious danger he was in and paid the price.
I'm not into their politics at all tbh. I just know there is danger everywhere in the world. that area I'm particular isnt safe for foreigners. Per the US state department and other countries' warning apparatuses. I personally wouldn't live there. Lots of warnings for him in particular. Now that this has the amount of exposure on social media I doubt any expense will be spared in finding justice. Elections in alot of countries are happening too. This would be a big win for any candidate running. That can't hurt.... Tldr: I have faith in the government's of the USA and Philippines to handle this matter well. For sure. No outcome will be good for this young man I fear but justice can be had.
@@expatlifestyle2000Mindanao is a big island. I live on the Davao side of the island. I will not go to Cotobato, Zomboanga and some of those west parts of the island. Mindanao is a beautiful place and for the most part its better than living in the US. Back in the US people were breaking in my house. I had to have a security system and cameras. And I lived in a small town near Utah in Arizona. Only 8500 population. Oh and guns. There were way more gun violence in the US than here. But like was said. You have to be careful and keep a low profile no matter where you live. I feel safer here than Manila for sure. I avoid Manila at all cost. Of course thats just me.
When I went to Aliwagwag to propose to my fiancé, we had to take a security entourage because the area of new Cateel on the east side of Davao is definitely not friendly to foreigners that are traveling alone. Knowing local dialects is severely helpful and having a camera, but you're SOL until you get away from the rural barangays because there is NO cell reception, and they'll be curious of you, but highly suspicious. Even more so if you're an American that gets married to a Muslim, and lives in the Muslim hot zones in the nation, which is more of a comparison of "fuck around and find out".
It looks like his body washed ashore according to another UA-cam channel and a video posted on X. My opinion is that the kidnapping went bad when they shot him the leg, the victim died on the boat and they threw him overboard. Sad story. My condolences to his family in the USA. This should be a lesson to Americans, don’t venture into the no go zones. Those people don’t like their own countrymen, let alone Americans or other foreigners.
I'm leaning towards your assignment. That body hasn't been confirmed and there had been alot of killing I'm that area this week. The fact it looked white doesn't mean much as, from my experience, a water logged corpse changes colors alot.
Most unfortunate that Elliott lived deeply in the province in Mindanao. I wish that when he and the wife were aware of the threats, they would have relocated to Davao city. Prayers and blessings for this young man Elliott 👨 safe return.
i heard he was doing 5 6 - loaning to people with 20% interest. the locals have been doing him well by warning him of the plan. to move out immediately would have been the best option. loyalty runs high among the muslim tribes thus they would have never turn any relative out correct. doing it would also have bad consequences for them. however warning him ahead showed that they cared enough for him as it is.
@alfredopampanga9356 if his money is in someone else's hands he is most certainly broke. From my research he was fighting with the idea of leaving but also wanted to stay. The duality of man.

Even in the 80's, we were warned to stay away from Mindanao.
I had buddies in the 80s and 90s. They all said stay north. Different times though much safer overall.
(Again, because this is a purely local matter.)
- The PNP has two persons of interest.
On the record they have said "this is not a kidnap case."
- The PNP theory they like, the perp is the Muslim wife's ex boyfriend. He wanted to get back with her, Eastman was in the way (and now no longer is). The police in another news conference implied they know who committed the crime.
- PNP officials believe Eastman has been "terminated." (The best evidence of this: it has been over a week since Eastman was taken. In that time no one has come forward to claim responsibility, no ransom demands have been made, and Eastman's family members have not been contacted.)
- The rewards were posted for someone to snitch on the location of the two persons of interest.

Amazing advice and insight.
I’m an American who has been living in Thailand for the best part of 20-years. Been to the Philippines several times and I was always told Mindanao is a no go area due to a large Islamist group living there.

As an expat it is very important not to go into an area blindly, but I hope everything will work out for him in the end.
The Muslims are even more dangerous and active in Thailand. The government keeps it quiet though

Thanks blue. We are 100% in the same thoughts.
The guy was living right in the heart of the NO GO zone. WTH!
If you watch some of his earlier videos he talked about how scared he was and how it wasn’t as bad as it had been when he first visited. He said he couldn’t even sleep at night then. His wife was very young and in school. She just turned 18 on September 30. I think that is one reason he couldn’t leave. But in a video in September, he was going to extend his visa. He wasn’t sure whether he would do it for one month or two months. He said he wanted to go back to the United States and be with his grand parents. Very sad. His wife has two UA-cam channels with almost no traffic. I’m sure you don’t allow links, but two of the videos were worth watching.
Thanks for the heads up. I didn't see the wife's channels. Very sad indeed.
@@expatlifestyle2000www.youtube.com/@KarishaJala
thanks i was struggling to find it.
@@expatlifestyle2000 in the one with 18 short videos, the second to the oldest is chilling in retrospect, although I’m sure innocent. Then there’s another one where she’s telling her husband that an ex boyfriend is trying to pick her up on his motorcycle.
If he survives, I would like to hear his story on the Kidnapped Abroad show
Now I have a new show to watch....
I have lived in the Philippines for over 8 years now, over two in Zamboanga Del Norte. This man did everything that he could have done wrong. Prayers are with his family. When there was no ransom demand I'm sure almost every expat who live here know it probably was personal, even the condition of the body shows it was personal.
Im sure the locals know who was involved. The first thing I learned here was "there are no secrets I the Philippines
Thanks for the comment. Could be he died from the gunshot and then there was no way to ransom too. I'm sure we will find out in time. Like you said, there are no secrets.
@@expatlifestyle2000 He may well have died from the gunshot. If your femoral artery is compromised you have about 6 mins max before you bleed out unless someone can administer aid and stop the flow. Facial injuries might be post mortem as bodies tend to always float face down and may be damaged by contact with coral and rocks as well as scavenged. Unsure whether we will ever know all because that part of the Philippines is the Wild West and the government will try to bury this news as far as possible as Marcos is focusing on trying to improve the Philippines as a tourist destination. Locals are unlikely to talk for their own safety and anyway, to a Muslim he was 'kaffir' and his actions 'haram'.
Total ignorance got this guy in trouble. Born and raised in Mindanao, I had a few relatives unalived by these groups and such. The beautiful landscape will make youbwanna stay, but beware at all times. Even in cdo, a white man got killed with his gf with a large knife to his chest. Number 2 from what i heard instead of this guy like other foreign influencers are givers to their surroundings. But apparently this guy instead became a loan shark in town. Which is the quickest way to make enemies around. Wrong place and wrong attitude you can have in a new place, specially in a sensitive culture area.
Your last sentence is so wise. Throughout my videos I try to explain to foreigners the importance of assimilation and having great behavior.
Update for anyone w/ interest: The mayor of the city where he was abducted, has issued a reward of 50,000 php (Approx $1000usd) for anyone disclosing the current location of the speedboat used in the escape.
I put that info in the video. Big amount of money, very surprising.
This dude knew they was coming for his ass.😅😅😅he was stupid to stay there. Im here in the Philippines and i was once in mindanao and i never had any problems there. I lived in cagayan de oro and i was told that never go to certain areas and i didnt. FK that!!!
I've been loving in Malaybalay for a long time now. In between davao and CDO. No problems but I follow every warning I've been given about where I should and shouldn't go. Don't be afraid to come back to the island buddy.
Too many UA-camrs visit these places and report that everything is safe.
They're only interested in money made from subscribers and views.
Unfortunately, Elliot Eastman saw their videos and decided to live there.
Such videos should have warning labels that reflect danger/warning from the US, Canada, UK and other countries.
Vloggers should be more responsible with their content.
I've made sure I've talked about my little towns safety profile. Shame is everything appears safe until it isn't safe....
Curiosity killed the cat, just like a person who brings a knife to a gunfight, thinking they can play this game of life. He likely walked right into a trap, possibly set by his wife. Eager to uncover the truth, he sat on a ticking time bomb, wanting to know if it would explode, only to find out it blew up in his face. Trust me, nothing happens by chance in that small community; everyone knows everyone else's business 💯
I agree that alot of people have to know what has happened in that neighborhood.
This wasn't an abduction but a staged event for his money handling operations. He was very boisterous about his money and seemed to have a steady stream of capital. He flaunted it often.
I have been going to the Philippines since 2007. Anyone with common sense wouldnt live that far south in the Philippines (if they did a little research). But unfortunately you will always get those that think they know better 😅
I take chances in my travel all the time but living in that area is more risk than I would ever want to take.
Davao is ok.
As a Filipino, do not go to these places, where there is a lot of Islam extremist. Even Filipinos' knew that these areas are very dangerous. Do a research first before going.
I like alot of places on Mindanao but i would never go to that sector.
He should of move out when feels his in danger why still stay there ? there are many places he could of bring his wife ( if he doesn’t leave her behind) anywhere in Philippines then he would of still alive now ! I heard they found a body wash in the sea and bloated , and they say it’s a white male .
Talking about money in social media is a bad idea !
Hope those criminals get caught and pay for what they did to Eastman !!! He may rest in peace ‘til then .
Truly sad hope he gets justice.
Bro should've take the threat seriously and let it sink in. Everyone knows Mindanao is a NO GO ZONE especially for tourists.
Agreed. Perhaps it was the invincible feeling of youth.
Okay but what’s the update?
He's the only one to blame for what ever happens not his wife or her family.
Unless they were involved somehow, obviously.
He was kidnapped not for the ransom, but instead there was a love triangle with the ex husband or ex boyfriend of his newly wed wife and he knew it all along. Oh well one more ignorant expat less no big deal to me as there is plenty more to go.
There is literally no such thing as a Filipino ex-husband in the Philippines. Peace ✌️
Locals from luzon wouldn't even dare go there.
Several of my friends from luzon and the visayas have said the same.
Stupid is What Stupid Does" (Forrest Gump) I feel Sorry for him. But if you know or even think something is harmful or dangerous and you do it anyway, Then you suffer the consequences of your actions.
For foreigners who want to have Filipina wives. Just take into consideration the locations of these ladies you might want to connect. I am from Mindanao and certainly know which areas are not safe to go to. I am a Christian, and though I know not all Muslims are bad, there are still Muslim areas I won't feel safe enough to go to.. and Mindanao has lots of these areas than Luzon and Visayas. Speaking from experience, one of my past co worker had a brother with a Muslim girlfriend and went with her to her city to meet her parents. Once there the young man had contacted his brother that Muslim men were staring at him with angry look. Sure enough as he went home, he was pulled out of the bus and was beheaded. Sad...
OMG that is awful. Thank you for providing safety information to my viewers.
I like the reporting. Maybe this is your new niche ?
I'll keep doing many different types of videos I think. Not trying to relive the memories of my law enforcement days either.
I seen a facebook post showing his body being recovered from the seashore. Body was very badly bloated and decomposed. Skull was at least partially bashed in. So not yet confirmed. But it looked it was definitely a Caucasian man. Odds are that Elliot did unfortunately meet his demise. May God rest his soul in everlasting peace. 🙏🏼
I wouldnt be 100% sure the body is white though. Ive seen water logged bodies, both salt and fresh water, the colors change in unexpected ways. One was the wildest shade of purple.
Two things you can’t fix… young and stupid… he’s was both !
I thought young and stupid were both the same thing.
He is not smart enough to think, he already knew that his life is endanger he should run for his life.
Women and youth lead to men making poor choices. 😄
@@expatlifestyle2000 Never a truer sentence spoken😆
He is dead. Found body. Floated up on beach today. His head was blunt force he is gone
Ok DNA expert.
I saw a post about a body washed up ashore but haven't been able to find out who it is.
@@Ego-Kills omg use common sense. I live in mindanao northern, foreigners just don't hang out or live in southern part. So a white man washed up to shore in his boxers only. What's the odds it's a different American in his 20s wearing only boxers ?
@@emerysaulnier5502 the chances of it being different 20s american in his boxers is almost zero. There's not an abundance of you g American men living or touring southern parts of mindanao. Only wearing his boxers. Bloated from being in water 3 or 4 days.
It's believed that the body found in Parang, Maguindanao is one of the victims of a clan war that took place on Bongo Island October 18th. Bongo Island is just off the coast of Parang. Some of those fighting were firing from boats and several of the bodies of those killed from the gunfight were lost at sea.
A white male corpse washed up off the coast of Mindanao, hard to identify the individual. The body had on mickey mouse swimming trunks which I never saw in any of his videos, but who knows if they redressed him. I wonder what your take is on that? The body was bloated, had a hole in the back of the head, front facial skeleton and a hole on the right ankle/foot area. Other than mentioned, the skin was preserved on most of the body.
The body is speculation. In fact we don't even know if the man washed up was white. A bodies color does odd things when water logged. Ide say wait out confirmation one way or another.
There was actually alot of violent incidents in that area this last week....could be a person from some of the tribal warfare.
This kidnappers don’t use machete they use high power guns
It takes an ex police officer to do this great of an investigation. Nice job Nate. You know, we all feel bad for this guy but in the same sense if you know there is a threat why didn’t he move some place safer with his wife? This situation definitely begs a question or two.
Thanks Ryan. I'm thinking we shouldn't underestimate the ignorance of youth.

No. Havnt seen anything about it.
He was a really stupid young man or a little autistic...Like he didn't process the danger! He was aware of it but couldn't really understand it. I haven't watched enough of his videos but what I saw on this channel, he sounds off......Sounds like he was taken advantage of, because of his mental disability.
No expats I've met are normative mentally from my experience. He was a little off but IMO in a naive young guy way. I do not miss the ignorance of my youth.
This happened in a mushlims part not a safe zone just an information
He’s dumb. He had enough funds he just lent a bunch. He could have taken a scooter in the middle of the night days esrlier to drive fast enough far enough out of the range of this. But he didn’t he’s dumb
Youth often goes hand in hand with aweful decision-making. Speaking from personal experience.
Well put. I live safety in the chocolate hills. Bohol is definitely safe and I mix with the locals have a few beers, dress simple don't carry cash its great 3 years here now
Bohol is great. I'm about due for a trip back there. I just get so comfortable in my little slice of heaven in Mindanao.

Nobody said they were wearing police uniforms. They said they were police. They were wearing all black at midnight.
I'm sorry, but no one seems to be saying what I'm thinking, this guy moved to the most dangerous place in the Philippines. He set up an illegal money loaning business in the middle of a Muslim area, married a Muslim woman, converted to Islam. Started a UA-cam channel, shared an idiotic amount of personal information with anyone who could access UA-cam. Is that all? This guy committed suicide, plain and simple. Do I wish he was alive? Yes. Am I surprised he is dead? No. He was obviously not the brightest bulb and too young to have any wisdom built up, but every step he made was the wrong one. Every step. You loan someone money, that someone decides they don't want to pay you, what are you going to do? Threaten a Muslim Filipino in their province? How could you enforce repayment? Where were his friends and parents? How the heck did he get here? How was he getting his money? Disability? Mental disability? That would be my guess. Sad, but predictable, he was warned by many, and for whatever reason he stayed.
A body already washed up on a beach (before this video was posted). I wonder if that’s the same one.
Could be, but no official sources have confirmed it.
@@expatlifestyle2000the body was of a male bigger than an average Filipino male, with hairy armpits unlike most Filipino males, was found in Parang Pier which is just across the sea from the tip of Zamboanga Del Norte, all the kidnappers had to do was sail around the head and if they dump his body in open water, the tide will take it to where it was found. Also, don’t look too much on kidnap for ransom, dig in to his love life as a possible crime of jealousy by an ex, or a criminal enterprise unhappy with his loan sharking ways.
Wouldn't it take about 5 seconds to see if this body has a gunshot wound to his leg?
Yes but it wasn't clear from the publicly available videos. Also some other confirmations need to be made by law enforcement to ensure it's not a cover up.
What about the Caucasian that washed up, it wasn't him?
Not confirmed yet. Just likely speculation.
