As you live in the Philippines I am sure you are used to trash of the local variety and rubbish variety. Interesting a small amount of international ones would catch your attention. Bit of a character fault with you i would say.

That pretty much covers everybody on the scale. For me, I avoid the vloggers, even if they come across as a nice cool guy on video. I don't want to be in, on, or the subject of the Reality TV fantasy.

Good advice. They snitch here. On top of south east Asian regional culture in a catholic environment it’s defined as honourable. So learn the ropes, watch who you piss off from the rich to the poor. Learn how not to make them lose face especially if you are wyte. Keep your cool even if you learn about a death in fam. Although they resent a physically fit wyte expat they grudgingly respect. So it’s better to present fit. Just be low profile.

They create their Dumaguete cities for their superior race and don't mix with the locals. They come to the Philippines with their colonial mind set to exploit. They come to collect the very young Filipina as that is what they are entitled to, coming from a "superior" country. They fool themselves that they are doing something good for the poor. Give then your wealth without asking for anything in return....how about that?? The Philippines allows it but in a lot countries the local men would not put up with it. The middle east has a lot of pride and neve allow something like this to happen. The Filipinos are too nice to allow it! These men are older than the Filipina's grandfather and not pleasant on the eyes and she has to look at that face in bed because of poverty. The Philippines people should have higher standards for themselves! The rejects of America that are old as f' are coming to the country to grab young Filipino women. It is sick and exploitation!! It is sad the leaders of the nation don't think so!

Great points Nate,I cringe at some of the boofhead drongo's you see getting into trouble overseas, they really do give the rest of us a bad reputation. I make myself presentable just to go to the grocery store or appointments, and will keep doing that overseas, cant see myself dressing scruffily when in a host country, goes back to respect the local people and myself. I hope to make a some good filipino friends, and maybe "good people" expat friends, I am not a drinker at all, or womanizer , and would not appreciate any expat who tried to lead me down that dead end road, would sooner do something constructive in helping the local people/animals. You mentioned that you have Investments can you do a video about how to invest and you mentioned about you can easily make a thousand a month investing could you do you have a video to talk about that I'm retired and I would love to be able to do something like that once I get to the Philippines I haven't moved there yet but I'm planning to move there within the next 8 months or so I'm already retired

This was a great talk, subject to understand perspective. When it comes to living in the Philippines, we have to assimilate to a certain point. Never give up Your better values.

I've only had one bad expat experience and that was Amsterdam in 2001 where a group of drunk Scottish dudes bowled over some older ladies coming out of a bar at 9 AM. I helped some of them up and the drunk guys didn't like that. I fought a lot growing up but I'm not stupid enough to fight in a foreign country unless I absolutely have to. Otherwise I have experienced a lot of Europeans complaining about Americans but I've never seen evidence for their complaints. I think the "ugly American" stereotype is more a myth than anything. Those same people will complain how we smile and talk too much. And ugly American if I remember correctly was coined by an American during the Spanish Civil War for guy's like Hemingway gong over there and not fighting but instead drinking and writing.

I am only the complainer sometimes. I mostly complain when it comes to airport related issues. Complaining makes sense when it is constructive and offers solutions to problems.

I commented this somewhere else next thing you know some other vlogger is vlogging about it and trying it. Go to your local hospital cafeteria for lunch. It’s simple as that. Maybe you meet a nice nurse or a doctor. A nice professional woman whom knows responsibility.

Hey Dave, I live in Ecuador as a US expat. Other expats are the most amazing and awful part of the experience. Once the honeymoon wears off, many people end up in complaintville. The smart ones grow out of it and come to appreciate the country they're in.

Don't bring a lot of money with you when you go to a massage or other service. Not only in Cambodia but other countries will have the same problem

I have not experienced most of these issues and I've lived in SE Asia for two years. Never been to the Philippines though.

I fall into many of those categories (now)... I retired and moved from the US and am now in Davao. In the US, I was easygoing and very tolerant of almost anything. After 1 year here, I (sadly) have changed. I'm angry, and basically intolerant all the time. If I watched your video before I came here, I would have thought I was a good fit. That said, I'm now married to a lovely young Filipina with a baby on the way so I'm here to stay... I need to adapt! We visited Malaybalay recently and loved it. It's just too far from her parents (Davao Oriental). I'm jealous of your wonderful cool temps there.

in southamerica is exactly the same ...nothing new ..you pay rescue or you get a couple of friends and go for them ..police not always there and can be corrupt too
