    I did this on my mom to fix her tiger stripe highlights she got done at a salon and it WORKED SO WELL. It’ looks so blended and natural. I can’t thank you enough for this video!

      Hey! I was thinking of doing this on my highlights, but I'm not sure what color should I get. Did you use a dye the same color as your mums roots (her natural hair color) or lighter?

    • @Kathers96
      @Kathers96 Рік тому

      @@silvia_2005_ hope I’m not too late, I tried to match her roots so I got a natural warm dark blonde color AND I got a warm blondeish color and tried to blend them. I put the darker of the two only on her root then the blonde next to it then brushed both down the rest of the hair with the comb. When it grew out it looked so natural.

    Love your videos... I been a hairstylist for 20 years. I've tried many balayage techniques. Last week I did your hand blending balayage technique where you lightly push the bleach up the hair shaft with your hand. Amazing results, I am now obsessed with this technique & even more so with the end result. This is by far the best & fastest balayage technique I've seen this far... Thank you for the education. I will keep watching your videos. ❤️

    Question . When you did the shadow root or root stretch i notice that you used a small tooth comb . When i have used that kind of comb i feel the color saturates the hair too much and brings the color done too much because the smaller bristles grab the color . A lot of people use a wide tooth comb . Any other tips you can add to that ? Because i do have a lot of clients who want a root stretch with their natural root so it’s less maintenance .

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  4 роки тому +9

      Yes I realise lots of people use white teeth combs but, I feel That generally a wide tooth comb creates an even distribution of colour and therefore I prefer to take finer sections and use a smaller tooth comb to control the amount of product that moving down the hair. if you’re going to use the wide teeth comb then you need to be combing a lot of hair through and I feel like my end results can be a bit more unreliable so if you follow the technique from my root stretch video You will see that a fine tooth comb works perfectly and creates nice even distribution of colour. hope that helps 😁👍🏻

    Thank you, lovely video! I have a question : is the dark color used permanent, alkaline demi or acidic demi? One of the hairdressers I follow on instagram uses a similar slicing & smudge technique to create her balayage looks, and claims it is much faster than other techniques, and therefore cheaper for the client. She recommends alkaline demis on roots, I suppose because is doesn't fade as fast as acidic, and is still easier lifer than permanent for the next round.

    Hi great vid. I work with a brand that tells us to pre colour to the undercoat of the level your working with. So the level 8 stripey highlights were yellow orange and you used a level 6 over that which looked lovely, did you put any warmth in to add some pigment as a level 6 undercoat is red/orange ? Also wondered what sort of longevity the colour will have. Thanks love the correction .

    Amazing knowledge!
    Shame that at school they didn't tell me about it especially how to choose color for the root.
    Can I ask if this method ( to choose color between natural and highlighted hair) works for every highlighted hair? Let's say I make nice highlights and just want to blur the line etc so I use the same method....sorry but little bit confused with it and what to do if I need to use permanent for gray hair I apply permanent for the root and after go little bit down with the comb wait and apply toner?

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  4 роки тому +1

      Fantastic yes so put your foils in then in between your foils do your root stretch to blur away any highlights between the foils if you do have white hairs present then just use your permanent root colour that you are using to cover the white hairs with it would be too complicated to do anything else 👍🏻

    • @gwgw5360
      @gwgw5360 4 роки тому

      @@TheLifeOfHair I'm not sure if I got it .... why do I have to apply root stretch between foils? For better contrast?

    Hey James, sorry for such a late comment, lol, but just found this video, and I was wondering, at the end you said you used a level 9 shade for her ends, but you had said they had lifted to a level 8.. I know that level 9 toners can't lift level 8 hair, but do they still do SOME neutralizing or glossing?

    • @lilatolouian
      @lilatolouian 3 роки тому +1

      I ask because I have lifted my hair to level 8's before, and i just automatically go for a toner that is on level, or a shade darker because I don't want to waste any of my level 9 shades, but now I'm thinking maybe I should try higher levels to tone? So that I don't get that muddy look? (I prefer only using shades EQ although for root smudges/stretches, I've used igora vibrance)

      Hi thank you for your question yes level nine toner will tone a level eight but not to the same degree of tonal change as if you used it on the correct level. think of it as not as powerful when you have a lighter chain and therefore you will not get the tonal effect that you would expect from a colour that you were tone on level Hope that makes sense and the best James

    Beautiful result. At the end you said you globally applied a level 9, was that on all roots and mids and ends, basically everywhere all over the head? Just to clarify it for me as I don't understand why you would apply a level 9 over level 6 roots? I'm only doing hair 3 years so hence the question. Thank you.

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  5 років тому +6

      Ruth O'Regan Yes I applied it globally I will have no affect on the level six but as to avoid missing any I would rather apply to all the hair and risk the chance of missing some. Hope that answers your question 😁👍🏻

      The Life Of Hair ok thank you so much I get it and I also should have asked if the level 9 was a demi or a permanent? Thank you

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  5 років тому +4

      Ruth O'Regan I always use Demi, specially over previously bleached hair because when you bleach the hair and hair becomes alkaline and Demi permanent colours tend to be more acidic giving you a better finish and more shine because acid closes the cuticles 😁👍🏻

    James, I am based in London and have the awful tiger striped highlights you demonstrated in this video. Desperate to get rid of them and ideally move back to balayage from full head highlights. Unfortunately I can’t travel to Brighton to book in with you, but wondering if you can recommend someone in central London who would be a safe pair of hands? Have had two years of bad colour and correction; can’t face any more disasters! Thanks in advance

    How would you achieve “chunky highlights” without the stripe?

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  4 роки тому +3

      With a root shadow and a root tap you can do chunky highlights providing you blend them out at the root do a root tap with the natural colour then stretch it into a colour that is one shade lighter than the natural and then you’ll have chunky to pieces through the Midlands and ends and a much more blended route area. Hope that explains your question 😁👍🏻

      Thank you Cat, and my style is a very deliberate choice 99% of my clothes are black and I only have a small selection of clothes I buy good quality items that last and if I get bleach on them I die them black so I can get to most wear out of them i believe clothes should be utilitarian, sustainable and not get in the way of my day 😁✌🏻
