  • Fast Foiling Hair Tutorial | To Blend Long Regrowths | Babylights | Foliage
    In this weeks episode we are looking at a high speed foiling technique to blend the way long regrowths, So that when you return to work after this period of lockdown you have a fast and effective technique that takes no time at all to blend the way those clients who have let the hair grow for the entire lockdown period, Lots of highlight clients will have had absolutely no choice but to leave their hair and they now might be in the frame of mind that they don’t want to such high maintenance colour as they had before so this is a great technique for you to introduce something a bit softer but still blend away those natural roots.

    I tried this technique in August 20th on my client She has a Bob style. It turned out sooooo pretty, soft and blended. It took me 20 minutes and I charge for a partial highlights. On my note I put JHL. James highlights. Thank you for sharing your knowledge 🙏

    That leave open foil I should do more to save time. It gives more oxygen as well. I think we get stuck in our habits that cost time and this one is a biggy I already fold under and have since hair school 9 years ago at 45. I haven’t worked with many experienced stylists so these techniques are refreshing to watch so thank you so much for that.

      Yes Josie it definitely saves you time passing unfolding always takes way more time than you would ever imagine it saves me about 10 minutes every set of foils not folding. So pleased that my videos have been helpful to you Josee

    I am taking notice of how the music in the background is so peaceful for a change. You can focus on the work High techno music is jarring and competes with the speaker

      Wonderful yes I have change the background music that I put in my videos I much prefer it hey I don’t know why I was put in such stupid music in my videos I guess I was caught in the trap of doing what everybody else does I’ve been watching this brilliant videographer on UA-cam for awhile now and they really liked music he was using so I thought well must give the girl in my videos and I much prefer it I have to say I’m glad that people have noticed and commented

    32 years on and you never stop learning, so many qualify and think they have learnt everything there is to know. Also in all this time I am now starting with back, hip and hand problems so anything that is easier and quicker is good for me and the salon 😁

      I hope your family and loved ones are all okay, this pandemic is scary especially for older loved ones and those with health issues. How is the pandemic in the uk now? Don’t forget to get some sunshine while you guys are in summer so get out in the sun as it boosts the immune system and is good for us in moderation of course. It’s best to take vit d supps in the uk too though esp in winter etc as I read the sun isn’t as strong in Northern Europe and any other northern or southern countries that are further away from the equator.

    Hi James👋 so I know in cooking the shiny side of foil is to deflect heat (I think) and the matte side is suppose to absorb heat (I think) (I’m no chef), so based on this I think that the matte side is suppose to be where the hair sits so that the lightener heats up to get its best result... I think... I think of your lessons daily when at work in the salon! Would love to have more of a chat about the Wedge or Bowl cut. I’m probably calling it the wrong cut, but I think you know what I’m speaking of. Have a great day!

      The Life Of Hair
      I am going to look now for video on foil. If you haven’t done it yet maybe this a reminder BUT I wanted tell you the story of highlighting a text book is to highlight the “and” not the whole paragraph or page was a BOOM yes yes moment for me.. and if you keep going over and over the same chapter highlighting a diff word each time eventually there is more highlight SO what do you suggest or do you not agree since possible low lights or due to regrowth that wouldn’t exactly be accurate to use a book example at that point?

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  3 роки тому

      It is possible and previously highlighted hair but what I would say is if you’re going to do it on previously highlighted hair it does need to have quite a long route on it or you need to put a root stretch in between the packets to achieve this affect. I have a video on how to turn I highlight client into a Balyage client check it out it’s more akin to somebody that is already got highlights

    I have always used the mat side. Was taught that way so never questioned it. I'll be interested in the video though, I suspect that you would say that the shiny side provides better lift, possibly because of the lack of texture making it easier to evenly saturate the hair. Just a guess though 😅

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  4 роки тому +3

    • @Wondorawoman

      I take the hair am.s sit it on the flat side then paint/ saturate. That way the shiny side reflects the light to produce heat with or without a heating lamp.

  • @leeroyaf

    🤔Umm, well I’ve always used matt side (shiny side out). For no other reason than that’s how I was taught. I always thought matt side was “stickier”🤷🏼‍♂️. Totally agree about returning from lockdown & having those clients that are simply not that profitable & informing them on an alternative way. Also along those lines, really interested in what think about price increases to balance out the purchase cost of PPE, hand sanitiser, etc. Or should we, the salon/stylist absorb the cost? Great video again mate. Oh, btw where’s your other bracelet? The solid silver one. I have one very similar. 👍🏼✂️x

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  4 роки тому +3

      I’m going to make a video about the foil thing, And I think that the client should absorb the cost of the PPE as it is in their interest to protect them should they want their hair doing I know lots of Hairdressing salons he run on pretty tight profit margins and if we do not stand together and unite on the fact that the PPE asked to be added to the cost of our services some small salon businesses will go out of business plus why should you not included in the cost I don’t know any business on the planet that doesn’t include all the costs in their pricing we are not doing this because we are a charity we are doing this because we are providing a service 😁👍🏻 Oh yeah I just took my other bracelet off because it sounded particularly jangly to me while I was filming so I just put it next to me then someone commented just like you that they missed hearing my bracelet Jangling anyway don’t worry I’ve still got it.

    Once again amazing informative and super helpful videos!! I do have a questions I make sure to evenly saturate the hair in the foil, however I seem to get those fold marks. Is it too tight or not enough product???

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  3 роки тому

      Hi wonderful thank you for your question so yes it Could be a combination of both of those things really I never thought my phone was too tightly and I always put lots of products in there if you sold your foil to tight then that can cause bleeding because there is nowhere for the bleach to go apart from out the top 👍🏻

    Thank you for this video! I'm so glad you brought the time problem in discussion. I am convinced my customers will be asking to cover their grey/ dark roots with a base and then, for the ends, do some highlights and lowlights!!!! And I am very aware that I am charging far too little for that time I spend. I have been to terrified to tell them it's just taking too much time and I am charging only 60 per cent probably. As you said now, maybe their gonna accept it easier after the lockdown, because they have no choice. I definitely do not want to offend my ladies, by saying" I don't have that much time for you" .
    I don't know if other hairdresser can relate to this, but most of my customers think they are " the customer", the rest of the people being..."the rest of the people".

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  4 роки тому +1

      AB I would go as far as to say That 70% if not 80% of the hairdressing industry under charges for what they are really worth this is the time to make those changes and flaw back all the years you’ve been undercharging. And of course you don’t have to say it in the manner that I would to my ladies because I had a very different report to a lot of hairdressers with my client and I will be that honest with him but you know how to best treat your clients/guests in the salon and one thing I will say to you is that it won’t always be met with positivity But think of this if you charged 60% more than you were previously you could do 60% less clients and earn exactly the same money for AB do yourself and the biggest favour ever done yourself in your life and make your time worth it 😁✌🏻

    Thank you so much for your videos! I've seen a lot of hairstylists leave a section uncoloured then a coloured section when weaving the hair to bleach, if I'm going for an ombre look is this necessary to do, or is it better to just bleach all the sections instead of alternating?

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  4 роки тому +1

      You are very welcome, if you’re going for an hombre luck then I would suggest that you do all of the sections the reason that you would breach a bit and leave a bit on the beach a bit and leave a bit is to create more of a contrast look more akin to a Balyage.

    Thank you James. I'll defo have a go at this. Any thing to speed me up.
    I'm mobile. So usually it's just me and one client at a time. But honestly some clients faf around moving their head as your dolly was. Answering their phone, seeing to their kid. So yes Any thing that gets me in and out faster it all good to me. The regrowths are going to phenomenal.
    Here's a question?????
    Will you all be charging a % more on top due to regrowth???? I was discussing this with a few hairdressing friends, so we're for some against.
    What's your opinion???
    Cause we will be covering what would have been a 2 or 3 time visit with product. Would like to hear others opinion on it?.
    Last thing. What lightener were you using?

    • @gabrose2717

      I'm mobile too and will be making a small increase, most people will understand, especially when you explain it's to continue providing the best possible service and help offset additional costs in ppe, products and time
