    James!!
    I pick up SO many GREAT tips from you!
    I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to educate us Hairdressers.
    I’ve been at it 46 plus years…
    I’m retired now, just do very close client/friends now.
    My motto in retirement is “When it’s not fun anymore, I’m done. So Behave!” 🤣

    I am old school beautician. Been in the business for more than 30 years. Always was comfortable with my cutting skills and perming skills, even though I do not do too many of them anymore. But different color techniques are little scary for me. But I have learned so much watching you. You make it so much easier for me with foils. I really made it alot harder than it should be. You are a fantastic teacher!

    Thanks so much. That first one you mentioned on taking too deep of a weave hit the mark! Won't make that mistake again 😭. Also, not having wide enough foils causing dark corners when you fold in the edges. Brilliant 😊

      @@TheLifeOfHair I did a balayage, w/foils around the hairline, which I always struggle w/slipping, but this time I made sure to only weave off the top & broke my sections up to make sure not to pull hair into the foils & I had no slipping, & no bleeds at the corners, yay :) i'm still in school, & your tips have been very helpful. Brilliant thank you so much for those great tips! I’ve just started back hairdressing after 7 years off and foiling has always been a challenge, especially re tiger strips or bleeding to my disappointment I’ve had this happen at times! It’s most upsetting when this happens on clients! I shall practice this under foil placement I’m used to folding on the outside not underneath but I see how this would help foils stay in place! See I’m 47 in my day we only did cap highlights so it’s challenging trying to learn all these new modern techniques..........thank goodness for UA-cam! 😀

  • @3218lb
    @3218lb 4 роки тому +1

    Hi James, beautifully executed and explained video.
    Could you do a similar one for root retouch of highlights. When working on smaller area of hair it’s much harder for the bleach to hold on to the foil.
    Looking forward to seeing more from you and thank you very much for sharing your knowledge.

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  4 роки тому +1

      Yes I’m sure at some point I could get round to that but I would say that I use exactly the same premise when I’m working with small areas of hair I don’t change a thing I can talk to you about some more specific details in a video but if you follow what you saw in this video and just use it on smaller area of hair you will get fantastic results

    Thanks James - really helpful.
    Another important aspect I would love you to touch upon is health and safety within the salon environment. I hope that hairdressers don’t put this to one side. This is a big subject of high importance, one they should have touched upon in their initial training. A subject that I would imagine taking a few sessions. From hazardous substances, hygiene, electrical risks slips trips and falls, burns and cuts, fire risks and even psychosocial factors. It would be great to hear it from you rather than just reading it from a book. Take care.

    what type of powder lightener do you use as the mixture looks quite thick? Is it clay? I find mine liquifies with processing time ( not sure if it is the heat of the scalp) causing my foils to slip

  • @chantelle9988
    @chantelle9988 3 роки тому +3

    Very nice! Question--why is there not a concern about hot roots with lightener in foil so close to roots but there would be if doing a whole head bleach?

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  3 роки тому +2

      There is no concern with hot roots because we are not dealing with the product drying out when we do our processing techniques we need to be aware that the bleach that is closer to the scalp will develop faster but when we have it in foil this is no longer an issue because the product stays moist for a longer period of time. 😁👍🏻

    I have a question? What is the proper way to keep the color from grabbing on your hair while shampooing out color, if you have done both root touchup and foils

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  2 роки тому

      Good question Lisa thank you very much I recently included that in my last video where I do a cosmic colour correction if you wanna go and check that out then you can see it first hand but my best advice is that you just rinse it fast as fast as you can keep in the Tap as close to the head as humanly possible that helps all the best James

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  3 роки тому +1

      Yes Susan could make a video about that next time I do it and it’s not something I do very often these days my best advice to you is make sure that you quickly and thoroughly rinse in between each of the files without removing the foils before moving on to taking the foils out make sure you rinse each foil as you go making sure that is there is no excessive amount of root colour near the foil when you remove it and shampoo quickly basically it’s about moving fast

      Hi Gloria, so I can Assure you if you follow the steps in this video and make sure that you have plenty of Lightner or product in the foil to keep the fall in place he will be golden no more slipped foils 😁✌🏻

      What lightener are you using? cuz the one I’ve been using lately swells a lot & am afraid to get to close to top of foil & apply product heavy cuz have had bleeds

    How do you avoid hot roots?

      Hot roots in what context Naomi when you’re tinting ?

  • @jameslipke354
    @jameslipke354 2 роки тому +1

    As far as working the lightener up to the root, doesn't it really depend on the pro line you use? Some brands of lightener expand while it processes, and other brands do not. Doesn't it also depend whether or not the lightener you use is specified for on or off the scalp application?
    At least from what I remember from Cosmetology School.
    Thanks so much James!

      Hi April thanks for your comment, I actually think it’s less about What beach are using and More down to the mixing ratio I find that if you mix 30 g of powder to 45 g of peroxide it creates a great consistency that you can easily work through the hair especially if you’re taking nice find sections and paint right up to the flip without it over Leaking out of the packet all the best James

      @@TheLifeOfHair We are always adviced to use 1:2 or 1:3 ratio with the lightener we use! So it expands alot and gets super thick after 10mins

    • @TheLifeOfHair
      @TheLifeOfHair  3 роки тому

      I always recommend mix in the product on a slightly thicker consistency as well the sin of the product to the more likely it is to bleed I feel

    Warning - - warning, rant coming..🤣 THE BIGGEST thing that bugs me is when the stylist won’t take the colour right up to the roots/lip of the foils.🤦‍♀ Honestly, I’d rather them bleed than walk out of yet another salon with the look of around 1/2 to 1cm regrowth look after paying so much money. It doesn’t matter how many times I ever so politely ask, but they just seem incapable of moving that brush head up far enough and close enough. I feel like grabbing the brush and doing it myself. If I finally find a stylist who does it right - she/he moves on and I’m back to square one.😡 I am a stickler for detail and it drives me nuts when I see the detail being missed. It shouldn’t be this hard.
    I don’t go to the salon that often, and when I do, as the paying customer, I don’t want it to be an awkward and unpleasant experience by having to convince the stylist to do the foils as I like them🤷‍♀! They seem to take some offence at me daring to ask for what I am paying for!!!!!! I am paying for what I want, not what they want.

      Maybe your lightener consistency is too liquidy? What ratio do you mix your lightener at? Also do you start foiling from top of head to bottom or bottom to top?
