A small cut-scene from my play-through as the Dark Urge. I have romanced Astarion and trying to make some good choices.
I have included also a couple of other choices just for your curiosity. I didn't include all the choices cause the conversation was just repeated. Ask if you're curious about them though. - Ігри
I see a lot of people asking me these questions so I'll sum it up:
This happens in Act 2. It can happen early or late, it depends on your progress and choices. As the dark urge, your butler will visit you to give you a quest to kill the moonmaiden. After a few days, if you haven't killed her (being unconscious or kidnapped doesn't count as killed), your butler will visit you again to tell you to kill your love interest.
My camp outfit is called teal slimfit outfit
Astarion's camp outfit is called Comfortable Ashmeadow Outfit
I went all the way through act 2 and this didn't happen... What, exactly, is the dark urge? What butler? I'm so confused.
@@spoopy551 dark urge is an origin character. Like when you go to choose a character or create your own. You can choose to play as the dark urge. This is basically the canon main story line that Larian created for the players. The dark urge is a fully customizable character with the only difference it has a set background story.

@@abimullen9142 not necessarily. This is before the hug scene. If you get it after the hug scene you have one more dialogue option the day after when you talk to Astarion and he says "thank you for not killing me"

One of the only characters that fights for you. Truly fights for you. Even when you try to kill him, even if you decide to indulge in mindflayer power and it changes you, even if you try and break up with him to protect him. He still fights for you. Protect this man at all costs.

@@TheCr0oked1 Consider that he used to be a magistrate. He used to pass judgment on people, but paid for it with his life and I think he learned from that. He tried to be just, and he was killed for it. Then 200 years of torture and servitude reinforced his lack of trust for people. When you pass the tabernacle, he also tells you that he prayed to all the gods and none of them listened. No heroes cared enough to come to his aid. Even Wyll, who claims to be a hero would have killed him for being what he is, even tho it wasn't his fault. If you choose to care about Astarion, he chooses to care about you in kind, and I think that's a beautiful thing. In fact, you're the only thing he's cared about in 200 years. If that doesn't hit you in the feels, then you might be colder than Astarion XD.
You guys can justify all you want it hardly matters that he gets better, if you kill people for no reason convince nere to slaughter all his slaves sure you can be sympathetic but its still evil
You have to gain gain approval to change him doing some not so morally grey stuff along the way

I think he’s actually talking to the urge itself here. You had him are already beyond the point of being friends at this point in the relationship. He literally views you and the urge as completely separate people.

I just leave Gale in his portal at game start he can blow up in there without hurting anyone. He is a pompous windbag whose reaction to someone at end game burning up is to make some 'funny' quip. If I could have yeeted him into the harbour I would have. He also imperils the entire party with his bomb and doesn't tell anyone for ages, and never stops droning on about his goddess and how clever he is yadda yadda yadda. Yeah right so clever his immediate reaction to the crown is 'I can use that' not 'I see another disaster in my future if I go that route'.

This is so precious. Astarion has experience with having his body used violently without consent, and his deep concern and want to help you with empathy is really present here.
I feel like Astarion is the peak way to play an evil character in a party. He may be down to do bad things but he’s still a great friend.
I love him more in my good playthroughs. Evil is nice but good has an excellent redemption arc
@gina-hp2jo yes you're not far off although normally elves also live in forests so they're described as aloof because they prefer the peaceful nature over city drama lol. Elves who have grown up in cities tend to be closer to human standards, I assume Astarion is a city elf since he used to be a magistrate. It doesn't mean he doesn't have any of his ancestral traits though so why not.
Btw if you want some fun little facts about elves, they are almost always bisexual as they follow into their god's image, Corellon Larethian. Also a female elf is pregnant for 24 months, kids reach maturity at the age of 100. They age like humans do in terms of appearance but they reach emotional maturity at 100, after which they actually pick their own names. So assuming Astarion had reached maturity before he died, he actually picked his own name.
@gina-hp2jo I have actually made an analysis on his age and scars on reddit. In short: Larian wrote on his grave that he is 39 years old but a lot of the dates are actually wrong. His death date for example is after Cazador became a true vampire which is obviously a mistake. The current date on his grave is also wrong. There is a theory that they forgot to change the dates when they changed him from a half elf to elf or maybe they just didn't pay enough attention to detail. One of the numbers on the grave could also be interpreted as a "1" instead of a "2" which would actually make him 139 years old. His name "Astarion" is also an elven adult name, by no means could it be a child's name. There is also no way he could become a magistrate in a human city when humans would basically view him as a teenager.
@gina-hp2jo the language they use is canon for dnd. It's the common alphabet and they exist in the books. So for example it would be weird if they wrote it in plain english when english isn't a thing in dnd. There is common, elven, infernal, dwarven alphabet and so on, so they have to use one of those. Ofc they don't use that everywhere cause then it would be a nightmare for players to read all the books and scrolls they find xD
You can find the languages in books yes. I don't remember which ones have it exactly but I believe it's either Player's Handbook or Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide or maybe the Dungeon Master's Guide. Other adventures may also include them. If you're interested to just see the alphabet, you could just google dnd common alphabet and you'll get it.
If you're interested in dnd lore other than the books and you're more of a listener like me then I recommend checking MrRhexx channel on YT. I like the way he narrates the lore.

Probably the most appropriate romance for Dark Urge, brings out the better qualities of Astarion, he supports you when dealing with messed up desires and understands them in a way the others can't

well that's because at this point there's nothing more. We've had the honk scene earlier but it's clear there's nothing more other than banging. If you develop the relationship then you get a confession scene later. Right now my character has feelings it seems but Astarion hasn't confessed to anything - yet.
@@WitchHekate I had the dark urge scene after the confession scene at Moonrise and the dialogue is exactly the same (he refers to you as friends) except for the very last option you showed. After he asks you to let him know when you need to be tied up, he says, "Just as the lick of poison is removed from my words of love, yours become a sentence of death. A tragic pair, eh?" then a line about smut-peddler's having a field day writing erotic verses about you both after you're dead. Amazing dialogue, tbh.
@@grymmoire omg really? I'm doing this then for my current playthrough (yes I'm romancing astarion again). Does he say this before or after you talk to the drow Araj in moonrise towers? As of the friends part, maybe the devs had to generalize it a bit in case you hadn't reached the confession part yet like me.
@@WitchHekate I had the confession scene before meeting Araj, then the dark urge scene after that. You have to go to Moonrise towers first to trigger it though, otherwise the durge scene seems to override the confession scene.
Bruh I think I went through like every dialogue option with Astarion- I literally could not help it he has so many sides and you never know when that one choice is gonna hit you with something HELLA sweet- oooor something incredibly painful. My heart.
Right? He's the only companion I do this for. Sometimes he says a thing and I'm standing there with my mouth open

@@lujuria9920 I think it's whoever you have lowest approval with lmao, I reloaded and got the scene later in act two and the option to throw wyll under the bus changed to halsin. i actually did pass the check and, disappointingly ,all that changed was the butler said 'well if wyll is your favourite person, it should be EXTRA easy for you to kill astarion', and the scene proceeded as normal

Why are Asterion and Karlach's stories and dialog so freaking good man. Now I need to do a Dark Urge/Asterion double redemption playthrough.
"you will let me know next time you need tied up" & "i'd rather be the only dark power inside you" just killed me, i unfortunately picked different options so i didn't get them in my playthrough, but those lines alone are nearly enough to tempt me to reload & do it all over 🤣

Elves don't sleep, he definitely should have heard all that at the beginning
they meditate though so he was probably in a slumber
from my understanding they CAN sleep they just have a more efficient way of recharging so they dont NEED sleep. so basically Astarion decided to take a little nap and the dark urge decided to shoot its shot lol
"im much closer to gale!" is so funny. they're fully willing to kill one of the other companions to keep their lover alive😂😂
I tried, he didn't fall for it. Scel just says something like "if that's true then you shouldn't have any difficulty killing this one" dammit fine you got me!

You really should. I'm only playing durge from now on. Especially if you want to romance Astarion there's unique dialogue about how much you're alike because of your background as durge. I will upload it soon but there are huge spoilers so fair warning.
@@WitchHekate does the game acknowledge it when you’re completely honest about everything? Telling them about your memory loss and your urges, them seeing you talk about it to Ethel and withers , watching you react to doing the urges- do the companions remember? I want to be honest from the start but I don’t see how it would make sense if they see and hear everything and are still like “why didn’t you tell me?” Despite them already knowing.
its the way i was avoiding durge bc one i didnt see the customization button and two, because i thought i would only be able to do evil options. i honestly feel like the story becomes smt we can attach more ourselves more too by having our character be complex, by NOT giving in to the urges. that first kill as durge that we couldn’t control made me feel so bad tho haha
True but you can instead kill a less important npc if you wish...

But the bad feeling is still there! It's terrible AND I LOVE IT
this teared up a bit. 2 plays and Astarion just blows me off because I do good things for good people, and have to manipulate the bad people to get anywhere. But he is the only one who can come close to knowing what the dark urge is like, and the way he just takes care of it like it's nothing is just disarmingly wholesome.
you can do good things and still romance him, you just have to be nice about his vampirism. he doesnt really care that much about your good deeds. he usually just removes -1 approval point which is like him being mildly annoyed. what he really cares about is you being understanding about his condition. he gives you bulks of +5s and +10 points just for being chill about it, not threatening him, saying that you trust him, defending him when the other companions come to confront him, saying that you'll protect him if he protects you and in general just indulging his silly little hypothetical questions at camp like " who would you drink blood from" or "how would you like to be murdered if you become an illithid."

I've done 3 playthroughs as of now (just coming to the last couple of fights in 3, thinking of doing D/Urge on the next). My first playthrough was with Astarion. He's actually spoilt me for anyone else.
I start new playthroughs thinking OK I'll give someone else a go this time, but when it comes to the point of choice I simply can't.
He's just such a well written character and if you go the good route he gets such a brilliant, well written, redemption arc. Even his ascension arc is well written, he's just less himself afterwards. But the game is set up to favour the redemption arc - same way it does for Shadowheart not killing her target.
None of the other characters come up to that standard with the closest indeed being Shadowheart as she also starts out being on an neutral evil route (albeit with a kinder take on things). She can come across as gentler and its less obvious but its still there, in Act 1 she has little time for you playing hero or doing nice things for folks and can make some cutting remarks about such behaviour. In my playthrough she didn't kill her target and is supposed to be on the good path, but later in another place she lets 2 people die (I didn't interfere and let her make her own choice entirely on both occasions). So I'm not sure her redemption arc is much better than Astarions when pitch comes to toss, but almost everyone likes Shadowheart and thinks she is a good person. .
Astarion isn't gentle except to tav sometimes (and except when he wants something lol), he can be vicious and cutting, but in his case its learned behaviour from 200 years of misery and torture and nearly all of it is a prickly shell of self defence and coping mechanisms.
Doesn't matter what he did or didn't do prior to becoming a spawn, whatever it was he has paid full price for it many times over.
If he suddenly turned into some angelic creature mid way through Act 3 I'd know for sure I was being played, but he doesn't. He is still the same sarcastic, sardonic and amusing person who is my lover and who can be gentle and astonishingly caring sometimes. Compared to the rest of them being all serious (and slightly boring) most of the time, I really prefer him and he's always in my party. By the end of it all hes still not 'good', but hes trying and sometimes he totally succeeds (Karlach wants to smooch him which tells you all you need to know really rofl), not sure what else you can ask of someone in such a short space of time, after all you've only been with him for a few weeks at the most.
Remembering the durge first imagined Astarion as a "pretty corpse" when they first met makes 1:34 so much more fucked up. Hearing that exact phrase repeated, but in such desire context, it no longer feels like a shocking intrusive thought; it's an obsession constantly festering in their mind.

This is the only one I've actively tried to romance him on and I'm failing miserably. He's calling me "friend" and I haven't got a singular "darling"
@@Sophie_Anne_21 yeah I played chaotic neutral but too many times at the beginning wld be too nice to NPC's for astarion, even if you're doing the same thing, you have to make sure atleast occasionally you're an arse or cause drama in dialogue, he also likes sneaky and funny sex stuff like interrupting the dudes in the barn, sucking goblins toes for a ring, the torture thing etc.

Do it. When I started my first durge playthrough I was thinking why I didn't do this earlier. This seems to be the canon story.
@@WitchHekate I didn't do it earlier bc I didn't know much about the game, but also bc I had heard that people who played durge were doing it in a "heartless sociopath" way lmao, just coldblooded murder. I didn't know durge could be a conflicted and complex character, with regrets and doubts and all that! So for my next playthrough, I will not only try to fix Astarion, but dark urge Tav as well lolol

We're playing a COOP session with 4 players and one is Durge whom haven't romanced anyone. We just set free Nightsong and pushed unto Moonrise, when long-resting after a fight our Durge got a cutscene of them waking up and seeing Withers on the other side of the campfire but then the cutscene just abruptly ends after 3 sec and I wonder if that's this is "our" version of that since he didn't romance anyone so Withers is then the logical target if the butler wanted someone else. I just wanted to see if that's plausible or if we just got a bugged scene.
I don't really know but it could be. I had the same question the other day: what happens if you haven't romanced anyone? I would have guessed you get a random companion to kill though. Since I assume you don't have anyone else in your party then the game couldn't give him any other companion to kill.
“How many lives have you taken? Dozens? I must’ve brought Cazador thousands.” Astarion I appreciate the support but something tells me Durge’s kill count is *much* higher than that
I am really struggling with deciding wether I should or shouldn't play (evil) dark urge on my first play through. It seems like the most fun play through when romancing Astarion but I have also heard that it's best not to play dark urge on the very first play through...
Truth is that durge is the better playthrough, but you might appreciate it more if you've experienced a tav playthrough first. Do what feels natural to you. There are so many things that I missed in my first playthrough and I felt like I kinda screwed up. Second time around as durge I knew better what I wanted to do. My choices were more consistent with what I actually intended to do. Another reason is lore. If you're not a dnd player there might be a lot of new info for you to learn, it can be overwhelming. As the dark urge when some things are revealed to you, it might be better to have an idea about dnd lore.

Don't think the game restrains you (or that you should restrain yourself) from doing Dark Urge on a good centric or evil centric playthrough. There are constant opportunities to resist the urges just like in this video, as well as give into them fully. Some of the best moments in the game are tied directly to overcoming the Dark Urge or standing against it during your journey, this video being only the tip of the iceberg in that regard.

The outfit is called "Comfortable Ashmeadow Outfit" it's common loot. I believe you have to be a bit lucky to get it since some loot is random, just try to loot everything, especially wardrobes, and it will drop at some point I'm sure. I don't remember where I found it exactly sorry.

dumb question how does ur tieflings body appear so smooth , like no bones portruding or whatever
It's because of the clothes she's wearing in the camp. This specific outfit changes the whole upper body (bigger boobs and slimmer waist). If you remove it she still has a tiefling body. On the downside, you clearly notice the lines where the body changes and now it started to bother me. It's called "teal slimfit outfit" and you can find it almost anywhere. It's common garbage. I believe the dye I put is some dark red or muddy red dye. It looks pretty with a lot other dyes too.

It's true I was a bit taken aback when I first saw all the bones and nails but I love tieflings so much, I love the horns and the tail. Of course in any future honk scenes you'll have where tav takes her clothes off you'll see them again.

When I started playing this game, and didn’t know his backstory, I thought Astarion was just an ass. However, as the game progresses and you learn of his past, is just heartbreaking. I think is the best written romance in the game (followed perhaps by Shadowheart’s) . Which is why helping him do that horrible ritual later in the game is the most terrible thing that can be done to him. Here’s a man desperately trying to defeat the darkness that has enslaved him for centuries. Letting him become that same darkness is plain evil.

You get it with whomever you romanced as a dark urge. Maybe if you haven't romanced anyone then you get a random companion? Idk
Are you using a mod to get all the different clothing options? If so, which one?
No mods, just vanilla game. I just gather the clothes I find from loot and use dyes or buy them from vendors. My outfit is actually common junk you can find anywhere but it's unique in the aspect that it actually changes your whole upper body. Bigger boobs, slimmer waist and no bones for tieflings.
@@WitchHekate huh! I never realized that the generic clothes you can find aren't just all the same. Unless it's not something you see until Act II? I'm almost through Act I, but want to make sure I do everything before I continue, since it seems like you can't backtrack.
@@thevalchemist no you can find them in act 1 since you first get off the nautiloid. They also look different depending on if you have male or female character so the only way to see what they look like is to try them on you. These are the cosmetic camp clothes btw not your armour

weird, when I select the option 2 'madness will take me and I'll try to kill you against my will' astarion doesn't say that line at 4:45, but he says that he can now put alfira's death into perspective. the same thing he says when picking option 1.
This also happened to me in my latest playthrough. Maybe they changed it after patch 3? I know they moved the scene at least.
You may have needed to mention your urges earlier in the game. I cut off Gale's hand, and said something in the next dialog with him afterwards. He definitely knew what happened to Alfira in my playthrough, mentioned something about being on the same page about killing pretty much anyone we felt like ...as long as they're not in camp. When discussing what we'd do when we got to moonrise. At least that's how it came across to me.
How far into the game is this? Im at the end of Act 2 in my Durge Run (2nd playthrough) and havent gotten it yet
I got it early in act 2 right after I reached last light inn. Some people seem to get it in late act 2 so it depends. Has the butler asked you to kill Isobel? It happens after he asks you and you don't go through with it.
@@WitchHekateI got the quest to kill Isobel but didn't realize I had to actually go talk to Isobel again. Good thing I saved before starting the final fight.

I'm still at my first Playthrough but idk how u people can be at 3 or 4 😅 how fast are you playing the game? Fights take time or is there a way to just play mostly the story and skip fights?
In my first I started with a balanced difficulty but I changed it to explorer in the finale of act 2. Honestly since I don't care about challenging myself in battle and am more interested in the story, there's absolutely no reason not to play on explorer difficulty. This speeds up the game by a lot! I have 5 playthroughs (2 finished, 3 ongoing) and you don't really need to finish each one to start another. I just play based on my mood. If I want some act 1 stuff I'll go to my last one. If I'm feeling evil today then I play my 3rd playthrough and so on. The fact I am a veteran dnd player might have helped a bit too. I didn't really waste any time trying to understand how things work, I just navigate easily through the game.
Also if you've completed 1 play through then you know where everything is, where the dialogue and your choices lead so you don't waste time exploring, you just go straight where you want to go.

I also started on mid difficulty until end of act 2, then i switched to story mode because I couldn't win the last battle. I LOVE this game and today I will start my 2 run :D
I think one of these lines is cut out now - “Whatever it is that’s controlling you, we can fight it. I know that better than anyone.” I just did this scene and it’s not in there 😢

You need to be in act 2, and you get the opportunity to kill an important character, if you manage to save that character, this scene will trigger
Late Act 2, when you have refused to kill someone else you were told to kill.
I actually got it early in act 2 after I reached the last light inn
My durge tried to kill Karlach this way but I really wanted this scene with Astarion 😢

honestly it's just common garbage. I can't say exactly where I found them but I know I've seen them many times when I loot. Try looting specifically wardrobes I'm sure you'll find them. You can have them since very early in the game from Act 1 :)

Also I have been resisting the urge to completely restart said tief's game 70+hours in so she could romance Astarion....
it's called "teal slimfit outfit" or "spring slimfit outfit" it's common loot you can find in the world. I don't remember where you can find it exactly but there is a spring one in last light inn, in the entrance hall there is a wardrobe to your right as soon as you enter, loot it. The bad thing is that the graphics kinda break on the arms so it's a bit annoying. I've only noticed it in tieflings too.
Why would you restart your game? You can romance Astarion no matter if you give in or not to your urges. The outcome is different in the very end of course.

Okay I need to know why in some clips I see of this game the hair is flowy and in others its stiff - where is this setting/change happening and how can I obtain it
I don't think there is a setting unless maybe they use mods? I think generally hair tends to be stiff in game. Maybe it depends on the cutscene and the hairstyle? Ponytails and such might have some flow but the "leave-down" hair are more stiff.

You need to play as the Dark Urge character. This seems to be act 2.
This is dark urge playthrough and you get it if you're trying to play a redemption arc by not killing a specific person. I'm not gonna reveal more for potential spoilers. It's in Act 2.

That's way earlier. You get this in Act 2. I got it immediately like in my second long rest or something but some people get it later in act 2 too.
When he says you could have told him about it, does he says this even when you do tell him? Like from day one, you can tell him about your lost memories, the urges, he can see you talking to withers about your urges, he can see you talk to Ethel about it too, he can see you do the urges and how you react to it etc. does the game acknowledge all that and hes just referencing you trying to kill him in this moment?
I believe he's referencing you trying to kill him or that the butler appeared and told you to kill him. I am pretty sure I was very truthful with my durge from the beginning. I didn't hide who killed Alfira or anything about the urge or memory loss.

I want to be truthful about everything because if you’re starting on a long journey , I think the nice and responsible thing to do is to tell the others about anything important ASAP . That way if they don’t like it, they still have time to make other plans . I just wasn’t sure wat to do cuz I’ve heard that even if you tell them, they act like they never knew about the urges and I like stories to make sense. Lol
I’m also tempted to just not say anything at all. As a bit of revenge. Because everyone else is so tight-lipped about their secrets so why should Tav tell them their own secret? Lol 😂

Can someone please tell me when this scene triggers? Do I need to have already gotten the hug/confession scene from him and saved Isobel?
After you arrive at shadow cursed lands and possibly Last light inn, your butler will visit you and tell you to kill Isobel. If you don't kill her, a long rest or 2 later, will appear again to tell you to kill your love interest. It doesn't matter if you've got his confession scene or not. This video is before confession. If you do it after, you'll get one more dialogue option in the morning after you tried to kill him.

@@user-lt7xb3so3h so yes technically you have started his romance already. Right now it's just a fling though. In order for you to get his second romance (confession scene) you will need to have high enough approval with him and do his quest in act 2 about translating his scars. This is what will lock your romance.
You don't necessarily need to save her from Marcus. He doesn't want her dead, just unconscious. So even if she gets kidnapped she's still considered alive. And yes you can also meet her and save her from Marcus. Your butler will give you (maybe) the time to change your mind. So as long as Isobel is alive, he will visit you at some point to give you the option to redeem yourself by killing your love interest. Some times it happens in one long rest, sometimes it's 2 long rests after and possibly it could take a few, but not more than that.
Disclaimer: you wont get the quest to kill Isobel immediately. Don't worry if you have progressed a lot in act 2 and you still didn't meet your butler. It triggers depending on your choices. For example in an evil playthrough it's more likely you get it after a while and in good playthroughs you might get it immediately after going to last light. Just remember to long rest a lot so you don't miss camp interactions.

Omgggggg So I’m super new to Baldur’s gate 3 and if anyone here know soul eater….I literally got flashbacks of that demon that was always taunting Soul. Is that thing the dark urge? What is the dark urge anyways??.
the dark urge is an origin character like your companions but he/she is only available to you as a main character (you don't recruit the dark urge, you can only play as one). DUrge is fully customizable (class, race, appearance, etc) but it has a set background story and a quest line in game you can follow. As opposed to the custom character you can create if you don't want to play an origin character, the custom character does not have their own quest line or background so you have more freedom in role playing as you want and choose your own background.

It is a very common outfit which you can find in loot or buy from certain vendors. It's called "teal slimfit outfit". This outfit changes the shape of your upper body. Normally tieflings have bones protruding out of them but this outfit kinda "magically" changes your body to be more smooth, bigger boobs and slimmer waist. It looks very dull when you see it but it's actually really nice for female bodies.

Act 2. After your butler visits you and tells you to kill the moonmaiden, you need to not do that.
How to get this part?
Play as dark urge. Get into act 2 and your butler will give you a target to kill. Don't kill the target and he will tell you to kill your love interest.

Astarion isn't a vampire-vampire but a vampire spawn. It explains why he can walk under the sun and why his bites do not create more vampires.
The vampire spawn doesn't explain walking under the sun, it's the tadpole that protects him from it
not sure on the dnd lore for vampires, but elves are not supposed to sleep, so hopefully this gets fixed at some point

Can't relate, as soon as my demon butler told me what had to be done, I murdered the moon maiden. My urge is plenty sated so I never had to be forced to kill my partner. Scelaritus never did any of this for me
