    You left out that before Maya, Alias had Alias Wavefront Power Animator, which was already used for big productions, in the age of Silicon Graphics computers

      poweranimator was by alias, and wavefront was another company with the software called advanced visualizer. they merged to become alias wavefront and make maya.
      (and pixar is using their own software called marionette and renderman.. they sure also have other softwares like maya and blender in house, but i believe it would be very wrong to say toystory was made with maya)

      Considering how you can do everything in Houdini with the Maya Bifrost system, I don't think so at all. Plugins like Krakatoa, PhoenixFD, FumeFX, RealFlow, Bifrost, all make Houdini redundant for me. Hell, if you want the full benefit of Houdini's proceduralism functionality inside of Maya, there's a plugin for that called Houdini Engine. I see zero incentive to switch outside of stability issues, but working everything in Maya outweighs that I feel.

      You are just doing operations that happen in the background...for a primitive and some other steps, it is non destructive yes, but unnecessary complicated. It has it's place in the vfx but not widely adopted by the majority of artist, it has steep learning curve that is potentially and may get you in line or waste your time knowing you can't Master it...houdini is absurdly dangerous xP

    Everyone knows Maya's reputation now for animation and rigging now but back when it was released it was light years ahead of what everyone else was doing with characters rigging and animation. The other major moment in it's history was it's first release on Windows because now you didn't have to buy the absurdly expensive SGI machines to run it. Though the price of the license was still really steep.

    7th fact it also means love. and many other language like Bengali and Hindi (Bangladesh, india) use the word as these language originated from Sanskrit language.
