My first 2000 miles with the 2020 280-mile Electric Kia Soul EV // Jonny Smith

- The new Kia Soul - which was recently crowned with the World Car Award in the Urban category - is on test for the next 6 months in the CarPervert household. Sadly it arrived just a fortnight before lockdown, so in this part 1 there is a 200-mile round trip being made for the first time. This was an excuse for Jonny to visit his friend Simon, who is building his old V8 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS lowrider project. Besides dozens of vintage and classic wedding cars, Simon and his family also coincidentally run a 2018 Kia Soul EV.
Having experienced the car being unveiled in LA (2018) and driven it at launch (2019) Jonny already knew the 280-mile 64kWh BEV was going to be a decent all-rounder. In this first real world review installment both Jonny and his wife Chops dissect what they like (and what they don't) about the Victorian hat/Stormtrooper helmet on wheels. Spoiler alert: Boot is smaller than its peers, passenger seat doesn't adjust enough, but it is deceivingly fast and agile, with one of the best audio systems out there. And then there's the glorious 64kWh lithium-ion battery pack which is the envy of Volkswagen, Renault, Peugeot, Citroen, Seat and perhaps even Tesla.

Got mine in January to replace a Leaf 40 and have never regretted it. My range anxiety has disappeared and to drive it’s a generation leap on the Leaf. I’m in Dublin and the car comes without the SUV pack which I prefer also. I’m usually getting around 480kms on a full charge even if I do check out the acceleration occasionally! Only thing I’m missing is the app which is only coming in now. Tell Chops to indicate when overtaking as that cancels LKA. Love the video and am looking forward to the next one. Your original appraisal vid of the car on FC pointed me to the car.....
I did say 'maybe use the indicator?' when she said that ;)
@@TimInertiatic Oops, missed that!
@@johndunne7376 I said it, not Johnny!
John, do you mind me asking which dealer & net cost after grants? Our eGolf is almost 3 years old (with 100,800km on the clock) and we were thinking about the ID3-would love to have a look at a demo SoulEV.
@@S7tronic Kia @ Liffey Valley have/had several demo's before lock down as i was in looking at them. Dont expect much from the sales staff though
Quality review Mrs Smith , and your hubby's contribution was ok too !
Have you seen the movie mr. And mrs. Smith?
More opinions from Chops please. Opinions from non-"car people" are always illuminating!
Their opinions always matter more, understandably but still...
It's always interesting to hear what is expected from people in the mainstream market. Enthusiasts tend to lose track of that, I know I have at times... but you don't tick these people off, they hold all the money. So it's interesting to get a perspective of what the mainstream market wants in a car (or any machine for that matter), because sometimes.... you don't have to too much to please them.
Lamb or mutton?
That look at 8:14 though!
The bits with both of them ad some nice little humor. I enjoy it
Excellent to see Mrs CP....the looks and eye rolling at dear Jonny are priceless- more Mrs CP please....love the Soul and its Stormtrooper look...
It's good to come back and look at these type of videos after a couple of years. Our search for an EV has been a bit rubbish but I have finally narrowed it down to a fight between the 38.3kwh Ioniq and a 64kWh Soul. We only need longer range two or three times a year which swings it towards the Ioniq but when we do go on the longer journeys we really need to be able to go 140 miles non-stop at any time of year which puts the Soul marginally in the lead as there will never be any range anxiety at a time when it would be stressful to have it.
I'm reminded of how GREAT Jonny is at reviewing cars. More please. And with Ms. Car Pervert.
So, it's either Mrs and Mrs Smith the movie, or Mr and Mrs Smith in the Kia Soul. I am not in the market for an EV yet, but this video was very good. I loved Mrs Smith's comments about Tesla, Jonny's about taking a driving test and lane assist, and both of you about being old-school drivers etc. A great review of what seems to be a very good EV. A certain other channel (cough'fullychareged'cough) is really missing Jonny big time. I've subscribed :)
Mrs "Pervert" should be in all of your posts Jonny, very entertaining. Oh and the cars nice too :)
Great review. I especially love the cadence of the video. The clips of you on your own broken up by the scenes with the Mrs really does break up the monotony that most long reviews suffer from. Kudos.
Bringing Mrs CP in is real next level stuff. It reinforces the openness and honesty and widens the appeal. Well done guys.
You just do better car reviews than most people.
Mine is sat at the dealership ready to be collected on Friday. Can’t wait
Dammit now I want one!!! This looks genuinely really great.
I took delivery of 2020 Kia Soul Ev Limited in Canada, on June 1 2020, and love it ! Currently just hit 4000 km, amazing efficiency and fun to drive!
It's dark indeed, but I wholeheartedly agree with M. Smith that I'd love to get a crashed one with ok motor & battery pack... and retrofit à 1970's Renault 4f 🤪
I have been driving kia e soul for 10 months 35.000km and am fully satisfied. I live in denmark and i have electric adjustment of both front seats as well as 3 steps heating and cooling.
Loving the B-roll footage around Hull, Jonny! Catching some beautiful spots around the city
In Canada we can, and I did, get the smaller battery. Heated windshield, no skylight, no HUD, cloth seats. I love this car and I get 300 km on a charge (252 rated) Watch out Jonny, your wife is going to take your channel. she is terrific.
Comprehensively upstaged by Mrs P there, mate. I’d watch your back. Might get displaced as lead presenter on the channel.
That aside, really great review, thank you! 👍🏽
Brilliant vid, thanks you. I test drove one yesterday and I am convinced to buy.
Regarding KIA's Quality and service it has been great. I have a 2014 Soul +. and live here in Yuma, AZ.. During the summer we reach temperatures of 110 degrees +. Never have I had any cooling problems. My car has had three cross country trips .West coast to East coast and back. (round trip average 7000 miles) and at speeds up to 85 miles per hour. Great long trip car. I now have over 75,000 miles which have been completely trouble free. I have replaced 1 battery and a one set of tires, every thing else is original. Your review was great! Keep up the good reporting.
Where did you charge?
I work for Kia and thisncar has sold extremly well, drives really nice aswell good choice Johnny.
Love it, Mr & Mrs CarPervert and their Soul. Sounds like a TV program from the 70's. Great review, thanks to both of you.👍
Great review Jonny - and Totally agree with you :)
Love your channel!
Driving straight through Tallington Crossing without waiting for umpteen trains? That's such a rare sight, it's no wonder you documented it, for posterity no doubt!
Pretty sure it rains every time after you wash your car because you’re in the UK.
Picked up a 2018 soul ev a month or so ago and have have got to say it's amazing. It really has surprised me how good it is after having owned 3 previous ev's. Obviously the updated model has the increase on range but previous models come in way under £15k. If you can work with 120 miles of true every day range it's a less than half price option with half the range to the new e soul
wonderful review Jonny! Great to see Mrs CP 'assisting' with the reviews as well!
Is it just me, or does Johnny need to use his wipers a little more often? 🤔🤣😋
Nah, I was testing the fresh RainX!
@@TheLateBrakeShow Apparently the test failed then!
@@TheLateBrakeShow Are the wipers not automatic? Or turned off maybe?

Your review helped us decide. We have one now. It's great, as you say.
Watching this makes me wish I hadn't bought the eGolf last year. Id love one of these!!!
Great review. Great appearance from the Mrs. Great videography. Great video all round.
Great review! We're getting ours next month and can't await it. We test drove it and it was amazing. As an old VW TDI driver I was blown away by the power and silence. And to be honest: On long trips some breaks are cool to slow down life. And I'm amazed by the cockpit design. I really don't get why decades of making things more practical and easier to use for a driver are thrown away just because the engine is electric! Why? To tap with cold fingers on a tablet and search for the heating button to react?!? No thanks, I want physical buttons I can push and get the response without looking if I touched the right spot on a tablet...
Thanks very much ... appropriate detail and useful over all impression. The Mr and Mrs stuff works really well and had me smiling along.
Your Mrs is brilliant ! Love the play bickering
We picked ours up pre lockdown on 19th March also in Neptune Blue. We have now done over 1,100 miles and really enjoying the experience. Love the adaptive cruise control and equally queuing for the recycling in Richmond where there are signs to turn off your idling engines on every lamppost. No problem with the Soul. As you say it has great performance and our average comes at just over 4 Miles per KWH. A mix of urban London and motorway driving. We are still cracking the software which is a new concept from a previous dumb diesel Citroen C3
Johnny talking = brilliant. Johnny talking about EVs = double brilliant!
His wife talking = triple brilliant!
Fantastic vid Jonny and Mrs Smith - refreshing opinions and great insights. Braw!
Thanks Jonny very informative I’ve waited a year for my eNiro but I’m hoping to get it soon, but the new Soul looks great
Wow, I saw the Shotwell tower and was like... HUH!
Well, thanks for visiting Hull, Jonny. Pleasure having you here!
Ah, that's press footage. Still, cool! Made Hull look really sweet.
I thought I recognised the tidal barrier there
Yeah same here thought the background looked familiar, great shots on Humber Street.
ive always liked the styling of the Soul, reminds me of the Nissan cube
Now the Nissan Cube is a car that deserves an EV-swap...

My wife leaves used tissues in the car too. My wife is always running late too and tear arses off the drive. Watching this reminds me of me and my wife so much. I’m more chilled like you Jonny. Love to take my time getting in and out the car. Much less likely to have an accident this way. Stay safe kids!
When are they bringing out the track version? The Kia "R-Soul"...
They should call it "SouR"
that made me laugh opin
When they bring out their latest car for the iPhone generation the R-Swipe!
Brilliant 😁
All the R-Souls have been bought pre order by the Pri-RS-Soul drivers who are looking for a new trendy whip
Fantastic video, well considered and objective, love the contribution from your wife.
When I first saw these as a petrol version, i didn't get the style at all but as an EV I find it works stylistically
With more than a year and 20,000 km (less than a "normal" year due to COVID), including all four seasons (Canadian winter included), on my pretty blue 2020 e-Soul I have decided this is my favourite car ever. I've had quite a few cars since a fifteen year old me towed my first one home in the early seventies, and loved them all, but this is the best one so far. I can't imagine ever buying another gas or diesel vehicle. Although I never use the lane keeping feature mentioned for local driving, I regularly make a 550 km journey to see family on what Johnny would call motorways, and for those trips the adaptive speed control along with the lane keeping assist make it easy to arrive relaxed and not needing to call my chiropractor. I love that by holding the left regen paddle I can boost the regen braking and come to a full stop. Since getting accustomed to that, I rarely use the mechanical brakes. My summer range has averaged 480 km, with it dropping to around 300 in our cold winter. Even with the dramatic winter season drop in range, I recently finished planning a 4,500 km road trip to our west coast next winter, which appears to be quite doable. It's a shame about that odd looking SUV package you have to take over there, but I would love to have those roof rack rails!! It's true the purchase price was a bit hard to swallow, but I figure our overall ownership cost is about 25% less than if we had purchased the equivalent gas version given we normally drive about 35,000 km/yr. Total "Fuel" cost so far = C$320 (£182) and regular service, which included installing our snow tires = C$80 (£45)! Great review as always, and very worthwhile to have the additional second opinion of the other better half of the car pervert household.
Great video Jonny! I've always quite liked the Soul in all it's generations...it's just got some spunk and quirkiness to it. Your video has quite sold me on the Soul EV as well...only issue to me is cost...
I just find all EVs so ridiculously expensive, at least here in Canada. I get they have a price premium and the technology is relatively new...but that being said, EV's aren't really THAT new on the market and yet their prices seem to remain really high. A base Kia Soul petrol here has an MRSP of $21,000 CAD (plus tax, plus fees, etc with the way our car prices work).....the Soul EV is $42,000! Double the price for the same car!
Don't get me wrong, I would love to consider one as a DD (especially as the Soul EV has a very good range), but so many people just can't because it's out of their price range :(
The same cost issue applies to other EVs as well, at least here in Canada, if you want something with a comparable range to a petrol car.
In BC I got $13k in rebates, that plus the gas and maintenance savings sold me on the higher price tag.
The issue really is the ICE are polluting for free with no penalty applied to the price, while EV’s get tiny help from the Feds ...that’s all. Look at Norway and you will understand where the crux of the issue is .... I love my 2018 Soul EV. Best car I have driven yet, especially if it’s for city duties ... I am seriously looking into the new larger battery version to replace my second car or replace both my current cars going to one car household.
I have a very specific need in any car, as my wife is disabled and I need to get a wheelchair in, oh and the wife too. I have tried her's, which has suspension, so needs the wheels taking off to fit in any car. The wheelchair fits in lovely standing up, which is the safest way to insert it and avoid scratching the interior. My only problem is the insurance level (Ioniq 14 v Soul 24}, so I am probably going to get an 2022 Ioniq, even though the chair will have to lay flat. I don't need the range and there is a 39kwh Soul available now, but I need to test drive both.
This will be my first EV and I am having my 80's home elecrics assessed first. to make sure I can have a 7.5kw charger. If I vcan't then it will have to be a hybrid car.
more interesting that the film footage of the kia soul was from my home town Hull
By the looks of it, the charge port is the same as the Kona E, and here in Canada we have an occasional problems with heavy snow/ freezing rain because the port isn’t sealed well enough. It freezes the inside of the port and you have trouble opening it ,unless you blow heat on it or have a heated garage. Great review.
LEGO earrings! wonderful lady. More dual reviews please. I need these to convince my lady to go electric. :o)
Cheers Jonny and Chops, great review. I like the look, I like the fact some people won't like the look, bland it is not. Have a smashing day y'all. :)
I think the real interesting thing out of this episode is your wife needs to take over some car reviews 🤣
I agree, her honesty is brilliant!
Got mine back in January, love it.
Comfortable, roomy, and well thought out instrument panel.
If I've any criticism it's that the media center doesn't have options to filter or search for records. I've got rather a long list of music on my iPhone and it takes a while to scroll through it.
Currently 5000km driven, 10.000 less than it would have done without the lockdown.
On eco mode when not exceeding 100kmh I do get the listed 450ish km range. Which surprises me a lot as most cars only get about 2/3 of the stated range at most.
Now this is an EV I can see myself getting into. I'll wait a couple years for a used one though :)
The block of color looks perfect and that yellow is stunning
Heated steering wheel.
Australia: you wot?
My thoughts exactly and I live in the Arctic part of Norway. I may be using that feature 2-3 times each winter and that was in my Evalia.

Hi Jonny, Only done 352 miles since the 3rd week in March. After having two PHEV's I needed a EV before 2am six feet under, so loving it. Still finding my way round the gadgets.
If Mrs. Carpervert would use the indicator before over taking someone, lka would not try to correct her... 😎🤨
I was thinking "she can't have used her indicator then".....🥴
That's an interesting comment and something I look forward to hearing the answer to :)
Thank you Jonny. Fab review. We got ours, (blue) in October and totally love it. Of course it's been a really cold winter (in Scotland), and with covid we haven't been able to use it as much as we'd like to, but it does everything so much better than our previous car, (BMW 330e), including the ride. It would be hard to pick out a favourite feature, it's such a good all-rounder. Really comfortable, efficient, despite living in a (very) hilly place. Beautiful to drive. Wonderful sound on the system. Just wonderful. If anyone out there is wondering, try one. We can totally recommend it. Thank you again.
I've just gotten over my first 2000 miles with my VW e-Golf 2020. I'll never get an ICE ever again. No way
Hi Johnny love your videos and would really appreciate an hour long group test with a handful of EVs pls.
Keep em coming and all the best to you and Mrs Pervert for the new year.
I wonder how long it will take before there are new electric cars for sub €15000 with 300+km range. Love the review!
@@djp3637 In real world conditions it's more like 150-200ish km of range though
EVs are like pioneer plasma TVs of 2000 or so, expensive, heavy and chewed the power. Give it time and EVs will be like going to Also for an led tv.
Got my Soul in April 2020 as a replacement for the Nissan e-NV 200 Evalia and just love it. The only thing I dislike is the charging port. I so not looking forward to the winter since I live up in North of Norway. had a bit struggle with opening it. Also the antenna for the DAB radio could be better.
The comfort in the Soul is just amazing. The app for the car is unbelievably good. Compared with the Nissan Leaf app that was so bad I could not believe it has been around for almost 10 years.Best buy ever.
At £34k that's still a bit too pricey for the average joe. I think when VW finally get it together with the ID.3 the prices might start to come down. Good review though and I'm more impressed with this than the Tesla blandmobile.
Some good car finance deals on those plus loads of saving across the board, from fuel to insurance and servicing
You're right, I too like the idea of electric, but not at 35k.Hopefully in a year or so competition might offer say 25k range ,then I'm in !
Unfortunately the ID3 will not have the range of the Soul or e-Niro in its launch, and the longer range VW will most likely cost way over 40k for similar spec. In addition VW are still playing catch up, and I still question if I could trust them.
weirdly it also seems to be 34k € in Germany (so like £30k)- and we get 12 color schemes (that all kind of suck and look about the same)
Agee there’s huge expectation on the ID3 - even if I don’t get one, I want it to tip the balance for EV adoption. Tesla is amazing but there’s still no sub £30k Tesla runaround (a Tesla “Golf”). We need VW and other mainstream manufs can bring ‘normal’ and ‘ordinary’ to the conversation.
I loved hearing what Chops had to say as well. That is also what works so well for Ben Sullins whenever he have his wife on
I’d quite like an electric car and the range on this means it’s a viable option but the price has made my eyes bleed 😯
Toss a coin. A. You go to the gas station and pay through the nose each week. Or - B. Pay a fraction of that on your lecky bill each quarter !? I will never ever, ever go back to an ICE vehicle again, ever. Also, the cost is really all about the size of the battery.
Victor Seal I’m on board with the benefits, it’s the price of entry that’s too high. £35k/£650pcm is just too much in my view. New tech though so in time the price will come down, at least I hope so.
@@jasonk7072 Please bear in mind that you'll also save money on maintenance, not only fuel. Of course these prices are artificially high, because they prefer to sell you an ICE car.
Keep looking for your opportunity. It's coming. Battery prices are dropping 15-20% every year, and of course the more nice EVs are sold this year, the more nice used EVs will eventually become available. So far, those price drops have gone mainly into longer range, but I do think there is a range, where once there are enough chargers, and enough fast chargers, and if the car can charge fast enough, that you start running into the law of diminishing returns. 500 mile range is obviously better than 300, but if you don't take that many trips over 300 miles, and you can charge at 250kw, how much better is it?
In Norway we have the Soul with 39kWh battery. It makes more sense for our family who seldom go for long drives.
I really feel like a lot of people look at Tesla design the wrong way. In my opinion, it's deliberately designed to look as "normal" as possible to sell. If the Model S came out with the design language of the cybertruck nobody would have bought it.
Human beings overall are very conservative and we need our changes to happen gradually and car manufacturers histories are littered with examples of out there designs that nobody bought.
The way the model s and cybertruck are two extremes though and so not a great analogy. Looks are subjective I guess. Tesla’s look ok but I think they could’ve done much more and got away with much more in the design language.
Tesla design is lazy
Excellent video,. It was just like a TV piece from fifth gear really good quality and I enjoyed every second of it, very interesting. Thanks. 👍
Had me until the price was announced 😔
I thought the same too. It's quite off putting especially for a cheap looking build quality vehicle.
I thought that too. Especially as they're basically designed as a second car, rather than the main family car.
Mrs S. appreciates cars without having to be obsessed with them, which is great. You're lucky she chose you.
Small hint for the future: There's royalty-free music.
All lined up end of May then picked up 3rd June, first day Marsh Kia in Exeter opened (my local Kia Dealer in Poole area very poor p/ex so worth the drive down west). I had a Leaf mk1 several years ago and went back on business lease after two years - generally pleased. Now have a Volvo XC90 T8 hybrid and very please and pulls big caravan no issues, but it was time to swap in my wifes Panda 4x4 and wanted to go back electric so decided on the Soul, and what a decision, absolutely brilliant, not quite as quick as the Volvo T8 (0-60 5.5 secs a real beast) but around 7 secs to 60 is no issue. I don't drive like a lunatic but to overtake is so safe and clean. I have seen 284 mile on the range clock after full charge on my 7kW podpoint, not yet emptied 'the tank' but so far seems to be exceeding Kia's words. Clicked on the eco++ button a few days ago and it showed 293 miles on the clock !! getting better by the week
My dad got one of these. I get the impression he really likes it a lot. He never drives the old petrol car anymore if he can possibly avoid it.
I've got a KIA - not EV - that will be next purchase - find the Lane Keep and adaptive cruise - give a great level of confidence in really poor weather in the UK - drove to Manchester at night in pouring winter rain - through the narrow roadworks on the M6. Great to know that a computer that could 'see' better than me was keeping us safe.
Thank you, a very interesting report which is making me seriously consider buying the Soul EV. An especial "thank you" to Chops! We need to hear more from her to keep things balanced. Thanks again.
I have the 2016 version - it's a fantastic ride, absolutely Brilliant. I had range anxiety when I first bought but honestly it does 99% of your trips no problem and you can charge at home
Great review of a car I didn’t understand. Thanks JS, good to see the car world’s best EV reviewer back in the groove.
As always Jonny a great review. I think one of these used in about 5 years will be a great buy!
Well the video production is second to none, as good as if not better than any other. I would never purchase a car I would have to be put on a waiting list for. Its all about negotiating the right price. Not ready for an EV yet but thanks for the video, nearly turned it off when realised it was an EV. Think Mrs S will become the channel star in the future, beware.
Nice review. and a very well put together video. Thank you. 👍👍
I drive an 11 year old kia Soul and it is the most reliable car that I have had.
Nice review! We bought likely around the same time -- we're on day 91 of owning ours in Canada -- great car, only have put about 1200km on it during the pandemic - about 3.8 miles/kW average so can do better, but we absolutely love it. With warmer weather we saw range up to 310 miles, which is incredible and makes me happy we chose a Soul.
I've had the same 2020 Soul in blue since May 2019 in British Columbia, Canada. Interesting differences: no built-in roof rails or charging port light (I'd love to have both), but mine has no plastic cladding on the sides, like you were saying you'd prefer, and seat cooling, which is pretty lux on a hot day! The real-world range is excellent. We drove with luggage, family and dog at highway speeds with AC on up and over the Rocky Mountains, which took a lot of juice, but made it 250km with over 50km still in the tank before we stopped and charged, so pretty decent.
Great video Johnny, a lot of work went into that, it was really nice to see Mrs CP on the channel.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, and everyone else's comments. . We've just ordered one. Looking like we've made the right choice for price range and needs.
I had a test drive in the Soul Yesterday and i was blown away with how good it was to drive, how good it looks in the metal and how well put together it feels. When i say good, probably probably in a quirky way in that it stands out from the bland crowd. I was expecting a lot of body roll that really was not there and it always felt planted and when you put your foot down it shifts. I watched this to help get a better idea about its EV usability as it would be my first EV. There are a lot of new EV's on the market now and now i am wondering how this stands?
Much appreciated review. Here in the US introduction of the Soul EV has been delayed until (likely) the first quarter of 2021. Here in the Pacific Northwest around the Puget Sound and Seattle Souls are very popular and the range of the Soul's demographic appeal is extraordinary. I see "twenty something" hipsters from Seattle, young families, and downsizing seniors tooling around in them. And at less than 14' in length Souls enjoy another benefit here in the Puget Sound area; a significant discount on our steep ferry fares that connect communities throughout the Puget Sound.
I like the little discussion with your Mrs. It's 4 years since our family gone electric but my wife still doesn't have the clue how to rapid charge😮🤣
Great review as always. Been missing you on Fully charged but glad your channel is getting bigger and better. Well done
Nice honest review.
If you do ever want to review a sound system, you can always download some royalty free music from the UA-cam library and whack it on a USB to play in car.
In Canada, we were able to get this one in September 2019. Lower range model 258 km range (per KIA), charge it at 90% to make the battery last longer so I got 245 km usable range (right now). Plenty of range to drive around the city for a week or for long drives. Still spins the tires when you take off. Adaptive cruise control is just amazing. You can "take your hands off the wheel" and just let it drive, detect the lines and keeps me in there. The charge port plugs are annoying as they are not integrated of the doors and you need to always pull it out. Rapid charging degrades the battery so for me is Level 2 all the time (at home). The battery actually sticks out from the bottom (1-2") which is annoying in some situations (looking from the side). Went for Snow White Pearl. Not missing HUD at all, HUD is not the future. Love the remote UVO Intelligence control from the app (awfully slow) to pre-heat/pre-cool the car. Auto regen works, just set it and forget it. (need to hold it for few seconds to set it). In the sport mode you are faster than anybody on the street. Inside is a comfy interior, in the trunk, well I fit in there my borzoi fine so. (Trunk is deep). Lane keep assist is excellent. Revers camera is clear, totally clear. It notifies you of children, passing cars, it can apply the brake if it suddenly sees a car. Ford C-max was super quiet compared to Kia Soul on the highway. The car is quiet in the city sub 100 km/hr, it's just the speeds over 120fpm when it gets noisy. Mine does not have premium audio and is completely fine. The rotary gear selector is nice. Cabby holes are annoying with the shiny glossy surfaces which go always covered with fingerprints. Voice control is excellent even for addresses. Worth $42,595.00. Certainly. Worth buying this car over a gasoline car. No. You do the math, it is still expensive; if you are looking for a car to get you from point A to point B comfortably.
I own a 2016 Kia Soul EV and it's by far the best car I've ever had , can't really go on long distant trios but , it's soooooooo good
Should be picking mine (White/red roof) up from the dealer in about a week's time. Can't wait!
Looking forward to seeing more videos once you've lived with it for a while longer.
In terms of looks, it is one of thise cars that you love or hate. My Mrs can't stand the Soul but I really like it. One thing we do agree on though is the price. Its just way too expensive. But you can say that about pretty much all EVs
Great review!
You're a very lucky man, Jonny! A lovely family and a car collection to envy.
In addition to the loan cars on test, you've got the Flux Capacitor, Dodge Charger, Beetle, Impala, Allegro and the wife's Jimny and Figaro. Plus motorbikes!
Probably some others which we haven't seen yet.
Another great video Jonny, and see your Mrs. and hearing her comments is always entertaining. I work at a Ford dealer here in Ontario Canada and get annoyed that Ford doesn't have something like this on the market yet. We had a full electric Focus for a few years but the range was tiny. I guess with their VW collaboration we'll get one eventually. Right now I'm driving an Escape (Kuga) Hybrid for a demo, and am enjoying the reduced fuel cost with it. We will be getting the plug-in version soon and I am anxious to give one of those a go. So far I'm averaging better than 5L/100 km with the AWD Escape, and it's improving as the warmer weather is here.
Also decided to sign up as a Patreon today since I enjoy all of your content so much, including the stuff you do with Richard. Cheers from the Great White North.
We got ours about a month ago, ride & handling are great for a car of its type, supple ride and reasonable handling. Rolls around corners, but we’re not going round a race track.
Good amount of shove when the foot buries the accelerator.
It’s well able to do a 200miles round trip, although expensive to buy, start saving money on the off when “refuelling”.
