The Soul is built for a group of people who like the box shape. It is convenient to get in and out of. It has usable space inside. It fits in the space that you think it will. Those round things just are deceiving as to where there will fit in to a garage or parking space. Some of us like the Soul. Please don't take that away from us. Box shape is great. I hate SUVs and limousines who waste so much cargo and headroom space in the back. Maybe switching to BEV in a couple of years, the E-Soul is currently on my shortlist. 4x4 would be great.
I think it has a tonne of personality and I love that it doesn't look like anything else. Plus, the styling makes for a very efficient interior package.

I love my Soul. Got it in 2020 and it still makes me smile every time I get in it. Great quirky looks. And lots of people complaining the boot is too small. We've had a couple of family holidays in it and the boot is plenty big enough for luggage for two adults and 2 teenagers. The back seats fold with a split so various loading options depending on how much space you need. Great interior head room and leg room. As a family we are all about 6ft and no problems for anyone on long journeys. Intuitive cockpit. Heated front seats and the heated steering wheel is a godsend on cold mornings. I certainly wouldn't go back to an ICE car and don't expect I'll be getting rid of my Soul for a looong time. Highly recommend!
I have had an E-Soul 64kwh for 1.5 years now. No doubt about range and electric charging capacity. Sufficient (leg) room for passengers and myself. (I'm not the smallest 😇) And with a little planning, the boot can hold a lot of luggage and there's plenty of storage space for smaller items under the boot floor. I am a happy Soul owner.
My wife got one of these in March this year (after a 6 month lead time). We LOVE it. In the colder months we were getting about 3.8 miles per kilowatt hr , in the warmer months we’ve be averaging 4.2! In summer we went to Orkney with it, and due to the smaller boot we had to slap the roof box on it, and it handled it like a trooper, only dropping the average mpKWh about 4.0. My only complaint, and I think this is a must for Uk EV’s (especially up here in Scotland) , Kia dropped the Heat Pump for the Maxx model (it was on the original First Edition) Apart from that, it’s a great car

I had a Soul Sport for 2 years and I absolutely chose it for the way it looks - it was great to drive and fantastically well equipped but overpowered for my needs. I would dearly like a new Soul EV and the update on the design will be interesting to see. I hope they don’t mess it up like VW did IMO with the later body shape updates on their iconic original New Beetle. To me it’s funky, quirky and has personality in spades. So many cars out there have a bland homogenised design but the Soul is proud to be different and stand out from the crowd. Love it!
Only reason I didn’t buy one is my local dealer didn’t have any but they did have an eNiro in 4+ trim, which I bought instead. Both great cars, the Soul has more…soul.
The Kia Soul has always been a Marmite car. Personally I love the individuality of the design. I had a diesel Kia Soul (Tempest) about 10 years ago and it was simply brilliant for my daily commute and travelling around workplace locations. Visibility was excellent, comfort very good, economy very good perhaps the only fly in the ointment was boot space however, it was still more than sufficient for ‘normal’ use. I went to see the Kia Soul EV at a dealer in west Cumbria and the salesman said to my wife and I, "why bother with one of them" and showed us the Niro and said "I wouldn’t bother buying EV, get a hybrid". I bought neither and walked out disgusted and disappointed. A few months later I went to Kia in north Cumbria and ordered the new hybrid Sportage - yet the be even built I might add 😡 The west Cumbria dealership is a joke and deserve to go bust the way they treat its customers.
There is no doubt the Soul is a brilliant EV, but the Postman Pat's van styling won't appeal to everyone, although I don't mind it personally. If you don't need the size and bulk of the Niro EV, then this is a good alternative..... There is also the fact that the South Koreans are producing what seems to be the most efficient EV's around...
Having been an owner of one since Jan 2021 I agree with all you say. I bought this car because of the range. I regularly get the 280 with the way I drive and charging at home, overnight with Octopus Go it is very very cheap to run. Looks divide opinion but at least it is different.
I have to say that I don't find them ugly at all. It's only fault in my view is that the boot space is laughably small. Another 15cms of overhang and suddenly it would have been perfect. Trouble is, it would then crush the Niro.
I owned a 16 plate diesel in the Mixx trim (black with red roof) and it looked fantastic. I regret getting rid of it, it had all the kit you could ask for, was economical and extremely comfy, even on the big 18” wheels. Amazing stereo system. Wish I still had it! Very underrated car and it looks like nothing else on the road. It’s very eye catching if you get it in the right colour!
Love my Soul, you can always find it in the car park.. The Niro is better all round but is just safe and bland. Oh and with seats down the Soul has more space then the Niro because of it's boxy back end
Yeah as a diesel soul owner - love the styling always a well designed model - best looking car Kia have on offer ! would definitely buy one ( if I had £ 35 K )😎
This will be my first ever EV, I'm getting this as a fleet vehicle for my new job. I was sceptical at first but the specs on offer with this version makes me reassured that it will at least get me from A to B without any worry of running out of charge, looks comfortable as well.
Swapping from a 5l sports coupe I was surprised how much fun the Soul Maxx is out and about on the roads. Would love to have the choice of colours available in the US, lime green would have been the one to pick.
I believe that car makers are going to make huge profits in the long run with EVs due to the bigger margins. The long-term service cost for these cars is minimal compared to conventional cars. While they continue to charge the same price as ICE cars for EVs.
I didn’t think it looked like a shoe until you said it… Is the Hyundai Kona a better car of the 2? From the stats it appears to be the same car, but with a better range (I have just swapped company cars with a colleague for a month, my petrol octavia estate for his Kona electric) and the Kona can do 310 miles on a full charge? Would I rather a car that looks like a shoe or a frog?
I've had 2 of them. You think its ugly but the front end is beautiful! Best cars Ive ever owned and Ive had BMW/Merc/Jag/Volvo/and all the cheaper stuff.
The shape is excellent. Thinking of buying it in a couple of years. Most cars waste so much space in the back, except for station wagons and vans. But they are often not available as BEVs with a usable range.

The leaf was a much better fit for me. But with the delay from ordering to delivery i have been reconsidering it. The EV4 could likely kill this and the Niro EV particularly if it has 800v architecture like the EV6 and Ioniq 5.

Please don't buy a hybrid. They are going to depreciate at a horrendous rate the nearer we get to 2030. We are on our 5th BEV over the last 14 years & drive all over the place.
Why would you buy a hybrid? Gird your loins and get the EV. You will not be disappointed! Fantastic car. I would never go back to ICE and a hybrid is a pointless in-between....
I have a diesel soul 10 years trouble free and after 10 years it sill has the same range as when new unlikely a eV will and it will do another 10 years now that's green motoring
Nicola is a great presenter, very entertaining. However I think she’s got the wrong end of the stick when it comes to the look of the soul. I think it’s a great looking car. The only reason I’d choose the Niro over the Soul would be if I wanted a little more room. My first choice would be to an AWD Ioniq 5, but that’s a lot more expensive than a Soul.
It's so annoying. Any changes you make revert when you turn it off, it beeps CONSTANTLY, the "helpful" steering tries to unite you with hedges, the CC brakes randomly near parked cars, I hate driving one of these for work. And fully charged it reads at 194 mile range, assuming you don't need Aircon or sound or lights...
Boot is too small. BTW, stuck on the M25 on the way to Longcross for testing?? Do you come off the M25 at Woking/Chertsey and go via Lyne, or head down the M3 to Lightwater and partly double back via Sunningdale?

Please don't buy a hybrid. They are going to depreciate at a horrendous rate the nearer we get to 2030. We are on our 5th BEV over the last 14 years & drive all over the place.
Why would you buy a hybrid? Gird your loins and get the EV. You will not be disappointed! Fantastic car. I would never go back to ICE and a hybrid is a pointless in-between....
@@beccymay701 I couldn't have said it better myself, hybrids are indeed pointless!
Ugly ? Do people really think this car looks ugly ? I personally think it looks great to be honest !
In a world where all cars look the same, I love the boxy, booty look of my little Soul.
White with black accents and it's got its storm trooper look going on
I have a diesel soul 10 years trouble free and after 10 years it sill has the same range as when new unlikely a eV will and it will do another 10 years now that's green motoring
No, she really hasn't
It's so annoying. Any changes you make revert when you turn it off, it beeps CONSTANTLY, the "helpful" steering tries to unite you with hedges, the CC brakes randomly near parked cars, I hate driving one of these for work. And fully charged it reads at 194 mile range, assuming you don't need Aircon or sound or lights...
It’s beautiful in my opinion
Boot is too small. BTW, stuck on the M25 on the way to Longcross for testing?? Do you come off the M25 at Woking/Chertsey and go via Lyne, or head down the M3 to Lightwater and partly double back via Sunningdale?
It's nowhere near as ugly as the old Nissan Juke, and that (mysteriously!) Sold like hot cakes!
I like the look of it!
Remember that it can change lanes all by it self.
I happen to think it’s a really cute car!
Love the car
They need to bring it back to the US just for a year so I can get one lol
Erm, hate to break it to you Nicola but Kia have suspended order take for the Soul EV…
