Not only popular in the UK, but also the best selling car in the Netherlands in 2020 and 2021. More than half of sales have been the BEV. It also has become really popular as a taxi, which always surprised me, because I thought the space in the back wouldn't be good enough for that (I never use taxis myself), but this video showed me how wrong I was about that.
That would depend on the licensing authority leg room regulations, most in UK require 8in. (200mm) minimum between the back of the front seats and the front edge of the rear squab, with front seats fully back.

What I love about Jonny Smith is he gives everything a chance, and is happy to try and find joy in every car, but without the blinkered and plain overly fluffy cloud nonsense of people like A Goy.
I have no bias at all for JS’s reviews, they are simply the best and most detailed on UA-cam.. I do of course carry a lot of bias in favour of the car having one of the first e-Niro off the boat here in France. I ordered mine on 31/12/18....got it on 15/3/19....then the waiting lists began as subsequent orders in 2019 took the rest of that year to arrive with owners. I was underwhelmed by the looks of the car when I bought it but have grown to like its sort of stubborn, bulldog chewing a wasp look. And of course any ‘character’ you assign to a car depends on the memories you make with it. We’ve done some epic trips to Germany, Switzerland, the UK and within France in ours and we like it more each time. I like the front end of the new one, the slight increase in size and the EV6-esque interior. Last week my dealer in Niort phoned me asking if I wanted a test drive...I knew they only had the hybrid, they won’t get the EV until September, so I did a ‘non merci’...Would I swap mine in for the new one JS asks?...the ability to add a tow bar for bikes and a trailer is appealing, as is the slightly increased space and the V2L feature. Our early example has hopeless infotainment, doesn’t even have UVO but we use Apple car play which finds the chargers for us just fine. Not sure the charging speed is 150 kW though JS, other reviews I have seen say it’s 75 Kw, the same as ours but they may have been pre-production models. More important is the charging curve, ours will only sustain 75Kw for a short time on an Ionity charger. Looking forward to having a test drive here....or should I wait for the ‘EV4’...an as yet mythical beast from the land of 800v...so they say.

There are a few reviews of this car out there but Jonny’s is easily the best because his approach isn’t simply to regurg the press info pack. He actually reviews with a considered opinion. In many ways Jonny is like KIA where he’s showing the rest of the pack how to do this!
I really like this redesign over the old one. One little thing that I appreciate is moving the charge port to the center - I just like the symmetry a lot more.
I prefer the older one 50% because of the "frumpy" looks. I love the blend in lack of design flare. 50% because of the lack of touch sensitive buttons. Love it even more now if this new model might lower the old model prices.
New One looks much more futuristic, especially inside. And its even cheaper then the old one. Even the Comfort start model has pretty good extra stuff like heatpump, steering wheel heater and frunk
I absolutely agree with Lee Smith. I own a 2022 e-Niro. I deliberately chose it for all the practical family car reasons AND because it was not flashy-looking. Touch buttons are over-rated and pose safety problems by demanding eyes off-road when driving. I chose heat pump and all the top features including driver's seat electric presets, because my wife and I are in our 70s with incipient mobility issues. I like the internal refinements of the new Niro EV, and in particular would have liked the car-to-device power. But will not be upgrading from e-Niro because it has all the important features, including slightly smaller size that fits our small 100-years-old reinforced concrete garage. This withstood the 1942 Wellington New Zealand earthquake, so there is no way I would rebuild it! The car has enough space around it within the garage for reaching the charger, or (moving forward) to open rear hatch and unload. It's all good, and I am surprised that in NZ other EVs have joined Tesla in outselling the e-Niro. They don't know what they are missing...
In about two years of studying electric vehicles this is how my opinions have swung: first car I really fancied was the e-Niro, then I discovered the original Ioniq 28kW which had great range with all the bells and whistles for a bit less so it was a toss up between them. Just on UA-cam research, couldn't get out to see them... Lockdown. Recently we had a little car fair locally and I got to sit in a Kona; a Citroën eC4, I think; a Cupra Born; a couple of Volvo and MG5 and MG ZS Ev. I was sooo impressed with the comfort of the ZS I can't tell you. It's got a decent boot, which is our main concern and the top of the range has a panoramic sun roof, with electric cover and dual opening. It has most of the other bells and whistles as you've shown on this except flappy paddles and heated steering wheel. That top of the range is the same price as the bottom of the range Niro ev. Any reason it shouldn't remain my favourite? The usual great review Jonny, your thoroughness always impresses, many thanks. 👍
Thanks Jonny, fully agree that the Niro is an extremely well judged package, no significant weak points, very high residuals. Also very comfortable and relaxing to drive, has the NVH of a much more expensive conventional vehicle. What's not to like?
Just got one on Friday last and had an enjoyable 650km round trip over the weekend. Lovely drive to the west coast, very refined. Had dinner at 6pm while recharging on 50kwh public charger. Dinner finished, returned to the car with ample charge to get home. Love it.
Took my 2021 Niro 4+ from Berks to Trent Bridge for the test match today.. 240 miles, 80% motorway/ dual carriageway at a genuine GPS logged 70 mph.. Air con on for most of the journey home... Had 9% left in the battery when we got home.. That equates to around 264 miles of range.. Oh, two largish adults on board.... I'm happy with that... Just wondering what to do when it's three years old :)
Had six Kia models over the course of a few years. They never broke and the service from the dealer (Henry, Ferndown) was excellent. If I had the money I'd have one of these.
I like Jonny's presentation style a lot. He has the knack of holding your interest all the way through the video, with no pointless distractions, like throwing parcel shelves to one side, or pushing sticks up false exhausts..... Just a proper, clearly presented review, giving you the information you want and need.... The Niro EV. The eNiro evolved and made a bit better.....
We have an older eNiro. We've done 25k miles in 18 months and not had the slightest issue with the car. On a long journey it's super comfy and easy to drive. On a commute it's lovely. Performance is a lot of fun too. The new one looks like a good evolution to it. One comment on Kia design though. It looks like they lose interest when they get to the back end

i always know that i get your honest opinion when watching these reviews, thank you for that! i only have one small complaint after watching a lot of late brake show vids, and that is that the music bits and the talkie bits would be more level. as of now, i feel like i have to turn down the volume when the music comes and up the volume when you start speaking. the content is great and the video quality and editing is constantly improving aswell, which makes me glad. love
Great review , Always fair and to the point.I had an Ioniq5 on order for over 5 months and cancelled it as the dealership couldn't give me a build time.Sadly at the moment most of these new Ev lead times will be just as long.Loads of promises but none forthcoming.

Like it a lot! The frump looks of the old Niro have actually grown on me, but this is definitely sharper looking - and so glad they've lifted interior design cues from the EV6. The way the screens are integrated into the dash with that downward swoop that feels visually connected to center console looks like some sort of futuristic cockpit. A better look than the Ioniq 5 IMO.
As a family car I think the Niro is all the car you'll ever need. Have had the plugin for years, suits my needs best of all. I prefer the old car but then the non EV Niros weren't quite as challenged in the looks dept.
Jonny thanks for this video! Yes imo Hyundai/Kia/Genesis is the EV leader today in most aspects. New tech, new ideas, quality, warranty, exterior and interior design, and that I-want-this-car thing. This EV gives the best value overall. Most cars from this brand has really nice exterior and interior. The Genesis cars is on another level regarding the interior. I could sit inside and do nothing a whole day.
You mean sit inside and fiddle with the controls and knobs all day. I sat in an IONIQ 5 at Goodwood and the buttons have a lovely tactile feel. I could have sat in it all day and pressed them in and out... Is this a fetish?
@21:45 I drive a 2016 Soul EV, bought it used, in excellent condition with low miles but very low range, took it to a Kia dealership and was approved for a new battery under warranty. 0 problems- love design and space. I wish the Americas brought in the newer model, but I have my eyes on longer range offerings that continue to come out. This model Niro tops my intrigued list, cant wait to see more from Kia/Hyundai.
I currently have a the Niro hybrid (self-charging type) a 2020 model, and I think I prefer the interior of mine, I prefer the buttons, easier to find when on the move and you are certain you have pushed it properly. Yes, I have the 10" screen in mine, and it's great for nav, but irritating to manage the media. As for practicality, it is absolutely amazing, and with it being the petrol hybrid, I can get 800km off one tank of fuel. Excellent car, so glad I bought it. As for the "frumpy looks¨, I think I still prefer the old model, the new one looks like a storm trooper in white like that.

Love it! And I would absolutely consider buying one, however my current car is a Kona EV 64kwh, and to be honest I think Hyundai made it too good as I may never sell the thing!
Fab review, you have produced another masterpiece of auto journalism, well done - yes, yes and yes - I have put 20,000 miles on my 21 plate e-niro, what you have just shown is for sure my next car sorted ! - Tow pack and vehicle to load in what is essentially my existing car - fantastic - did you notice that the boot floor can be on two levels ? - that's another plus in my eyes.
I'm with you on the Soul EV being better car. Love my 2016 Soul EV. This could be my next EV. the EV6 charges faster but doesn't seem more practical and much more expensive.
Kia never ceases to amaze me on how , technologically simple ,they tend to keep their cars for everyday use, I have a 2018 ICE Kia soul, and the ergonomic interior designs, fall easily and intuitively to hand. I will take a ev Kia over a Tesla anyday.......

Wonderful review! If and when the Tesla Supercharger stations open up, that would eliminate the one major reason not to consider the Kia…if road trips are a major factor in one’s decision. I love my Model Y but getting very expensive here in the states and the wait times are one year away! I think Kia is doing a great job for all the reasons stated in this review. Thanks again.
Then other car makers should invest in charging networks as per Tesla. Not rely on Tesla to 'open up'. Why should they? Tesla.owners paid a premium for that USP. Just my 2 cents.
Error - Rapid Charge is not 100 or 150 kW . Errr The maximum rapid charge power in Niro EV is 77 kW. The battery can't be charged continuously at this power. In an average rapid charge session the average charge power will be around 64 kW. This charges the battery from 10% to 80% in around 45 minutes.
Still looks and sounds like a great EV and great value for money. Great review as always by you. I liked the Kia Soul also. Would prefer choice on interior colours
You’ll note that the maximum motor torque has been derated a massive 35% below the previous version and the acceleration time is subsequently slower. They could have softened the takeoff without doing that and as such I think there is a bigger reason behind it, such as trying to reduce the incidence of gearbox problems. I would not be surprised if the next Kona is equally hobbled.
All those reasons you gave is the reason I bought the old model. It continues to be a brilliant EV seven months on. One of these might replace it, but not for a good few years. I just hope Kia can transition to EVs successfully and start making them in decent numbers. For what it’s worth I bought mine outright to hang on to for at least 5 to 7 years. I do like the new interior, I like they’re moving away from buttons. Definitely an evolution and improvement on what was already a very good car.
a friend of ours bought the e-niro and i was very impressed with it. and something which i suspected would happen is that although its called a crossover it isnt really much taller than a regular car. my venerable v50 is about the right size that i want from a family car and actually this is only 10cm taller and 12cm shorter (a nudge wider). and surprisingly the boot is actually bigger, which the volvo is small in its class for that. there is a lot to like in a car like this. its overly practical and ticks as many boxes as you want from that point of view. maybe in the future i'll end up with one, but in the mean time it makes zero financial sense for me to change car. we do big cross european road trips so there are a few years of infrastructure building before i'd be comfortable doing that in a pure EV, but at that range it does go a long way. another cracking review, thanks Jonny and team
You need to put a correction re the charging rate, which is max 77kw. It is quite a serious point and major weakness for many people. It’s is actually THE major review point tbh!!

Two comments I'd make re your reviews: 1. I wish you were reviewing in Oz, (please show range in kms as well) 2. When you show the rear space in suv reviews please, please, please show it with the rear seats down - I'm on a farm and I often have stuff to put in the back. Love your work!
I am leasing a 2020 Niro EV (US model) and will absolutely be moving into the 2023 when my lease is up. I think it will be the best value on market when it is released here in the US, even above the recently discounted Chevy Bolt. It just does everything well with no muss or fuss.
Tesla Model Y in the UK , cheapest available is the AWD Long Range , starts at £57,990 . Cheapest Model 3 RWD starts at £48,490 !!!! Kia / Hyundai all day long.
Perfect review, just the right amount of detail and no drama👌🏻 I really like this car a lot. Super practical, think I'll try and test drive one with a view to purchasing. The efficiency of the Kia and Hyundai EVs are excellent and being front wheel drive this will be better in the snow 👍🏻

Brilliant review Jonathan as always. This will kind of give away who I am and what I do. But I have already driven it when the prototype got dropped off for our Grand REOpening. And I absolutely love it I didn’t drive it far ( about a mile or so ) but it is a very good car. Yes I work for KIA UK and very privileged and proud to do so. Tesla who ??

My wife and I ordered the older eNiro back and February but we just found out that we will be getting the new Niro EV now as a mandatory free upgrade and honestly at first we were sad because we loved the old eNiro for its simple/non-flashy looks... but now we are warming to the new Niro EV and this review has really helped! We're still not crazy about the exterior, but the interior looks great!
I leased a 2020 e-Nire as an entry vehicle until a better EV would be available at the lease end. Surprise, I am greatly satisfied with it. With my driving style and commute I have been averaging between 4.4 to 4.7 miles per kilowatt.
I had a close look at the Kia EV 4 at a recent Kia Electric Experience event. I agree the interior is better than the old e-Niro but also I think its better than the EV6. The Niro EV will be the car to beat when the lease on my current e-Niro runs out next year.
The charging times are a bit off, Jonny. It does a max 76kW charging speed, which is what put me off from wanting one. A 80% top up should not take more than 30 mins, just imagine the chaos on a bank holiday at the 2 typical Gridserve chargers, waiting 45 mins for a 'new tech' Niro EV. It's the biggest let down for me, they could have at least tried to up it to 125.
I'm thinking of getting a Niro. I've had a Ceed for 4 years, and prior to that, a Rio for 6 years. I've had 10 years of worry free motoring and rate Kia as a brand. Great review, I'll take a look.
Johnny where did you get your price information? according to KIA, the Niro EV2 starts at £34,995 that is £5,000 more than you say. All too often, EV's are way too expensive. £7,200 more expensive than the hybrid. and about £14,000 over what it should cost.
Good looking car. A bit more handsome than the original e Niro. Nice looking interior. I’m glad it’s not totally dependant on touch screen controls. The draw of the Tesla charger network is a strong one but you pay quite a premium to access it. With this sort of range, anxiety of range is going to be a very rare occurrence and it looks like public charging is gradually improving, as it must do. A mate of mine has a Kona which shares the same power train as this and it’s a very impressive car to drive. Yeah, I’d buy one of these.
Another good video, well done Johnny, I have the first eniro now done 2500 miles and very pleased with it. One good point is it has room for a full sized spare wheel under the boot floor with the foam removed, not sure the new model has this. After some town and motorway use over past 2months my last full charge shows 300miles. Cost wise the 2500 miles had been using 3 fast chargers away from home and the rest with home charger and Octopus Go tarrif 5p/kwh total cost just over £55. That wouldn't fill the tank on my previous Audi A3 and would only give about 300 miles
What a tremendous review, I like the understated looks and love the battery size /weight to range balance, I’m considering buying it, but will look at the Megan too. And in answer to your question, I would buy this car over the Tesla model Y as I wouldn’t be able to live with the Tesla styling. Really enjoyed this vid 👍
They like to advertise charging times on different power chargers and hope you assume they mean it can charge at that speed. Pretty sure your right it's 72 down from 77 but more likely to hit that speed and across a wider range of SOC.

Actually it's £20,000 cheaper than the Model Y, which just makes this a no-brainer over the Tesla. Also, the Model 3, which is £10,000 more than the Niro EV, is less practical, and so I would absolutely save the money and buy this instead. This has quite a lovely and bold design, which cannot be said for Teslas. Phenomenal car and video!
My 4+ e niro is the best EV ive owned ( ive owned and traded a few evs since 2011) I had the choice ( from Mrs P ) of the E Niro or the Tesla Model 3LR , i went for the Kia , easy to get in and out of , and looks 'normal' and non descript. One oversight on the 'old' niro was the rear camera blurring after a small puddle is driven over , was fixed by a clever 'cam wipe' which swept over the camera lens with a soft brush on the wiper arm. Did i spy the rear camera above the rear number plate ? If so , this will fog up fast on a damp road , just saying kia ! Great video as always Jonny 👍 👌
Our MY2023 NIro EV is due for delivery in September. Disappointed that the UK market cars have limited options. Wanted the lighter interior on our Cityscape Green '4' but Kia confirmed this is only available as part of the 'Grey Pack' which is only an option with the white paint.
Daveoes A very well presented and practical review. No BS or irrelevant comments from a man who understands what we are looking for. I have the old Niro PHEV and being a man from the motor trade all my working life, I just love what KIa have done with this car. I don't give a sh-- what it's 0 to sixty performance is. It's a family car, not a hot hatch and for me it handles very well no matter what I throw at it. Also as my daily mileage in no more than 20 miles, a tank of petrol lasts me months, as I make sure I plug it in every day. They say it should give 36 miles of electric power, but in reality thats nearer 32. But thats fine for me. Anyway a great review. Thank you.
Quite a BIG error in the video re charging speed. It is maximum 77kw! Which is very slow by modern standards. A key issue is the relatively dated 400v platform where the newer Kia’s are on 800v.

The design may be a bit dull, but at the end of the day, you spend more time in the drivers seat than you do looking at it. Surely it's the best value for range EV? I'd have one over the Model Y every day of the week. The only issue is availability unfortunately. Our local dealer has no idea when they're going to be available. Mind you it's a 1 year wait for a Corsa or Mokka EV! Thanks for another great review fella. 👍👍
I have a 2020 e-Niro. I can't see anything here that would get me to swap for the new version, especially with that warranty. I'll keep the 'old' one a couple of years more, then look at what's on the market, not just cars, but how charging infrastructure has improved.
We currently have an e-Niro on NHS lease. It does everything the average family needs a car to do. It's not flash - it just looks ordinary and that's fine. When the Mrs retires we'll need to hand it back. I think we've just found a replacement.

I agree with everything you have said. Really fine Presentation. To your question which one i do prefer: I would buy an electric car like the new niro ev, because it has everything i want. It loads at home with 11kw (tesla isnt faster), costs 30 grand less and takes just 16-20kwh max. for a distance of 100km. "Beat this, Elon Musk!!!
One reason why the previous version was popular was probably due to the price but I also think it is because it has simple basic features on the screen. That it has physical buttons and is easy to use
I have a 2021 E-niro ‘3’ and have been really impressed with it - especially that it has adaptive cruise etc in that spec. The thing I really enjoy though, is the performance. Compared to its rivals it has way more torque (291 lbs-ft compared to 229 in a Q4 E-tron ‘40’ for example) and I think that’s the secret to the rapid acceleration in sport mode. This new one, though, only has 188 lbs-ft of torque, so presumably it feels noticeably slower? Or am I wrong and it’s the same? Just curious.
Thanks Jonny for a great review. We were set on a Model Y LR but recent price jumps have added £3k to the price (You said £10k difference, it’s actually £20k). We thought we would check out the lower end of the market and test drive the MG ZS EV, it was good but did feel cheap in places with a daft low infotainment screen. Stumbled upon the Niro EV on YT and your review and we’ve since put our holding fee down, looking forward to test driving later this month. So in answer to your question - Tesla Y or Kia Niro + £20k saving - we took the latter. Maybe upgrade in the future but this is our first EV.
@@senoow4215 Hopefully we’ve locked in the PCP rate we were offered on the Niro EV (it’s gone up since, as has everything else). It worked out roughly £440pm (over 3 years) with a £6k deposit. The MG ZS EV worked out about £350pm to lease or £380 to buy on PCP. Tesla Y was cheaper to lease at £580 when we were looking, their PCP was much higher. OTR prices were roughly: MG ZS EV LR Trophy £34.5k Kia Niro EV ‘3’ £38k (now £39k) Tesla Y LR £55k (now £58k)
I have a 2020 Niro EV here in the USA and live in NH where we have trying and cold winters and very nice summers 70s/80s with lower humidity mostly. In summer I consistently get 300 miles range or if using AC 285 miles. Winter I use the winter mode for consistent battery conditioning and can get as little as 185 miles if the temperature is 0 to -15 degrees that is. When up around 25 degrees i get about 220 miles and if in the 35-40 degree range i get about 240 miles. Never have range anxiety and do not have but 3 DC fast chargers around me, 1 30 miles away and 2 45 miles away. I normally just charge at my house on a 240 volt charger and receive 10% per hour. I am definitely looking at upgrading to the new design probably in and about 2 years from now. Although I have checked on my ability to sell my car right now and it is receiving premium resale pricing with high demand because of the price of gas so I may look to private sell mine when the new 2023s hit our USA market in the end of 2022. We shall see. I use mine for Uber/Lyft driving and it saves me tremendously on the gas/oil changes and maintenance costs. It has very nice room and space for luggage and groceries in the back from my riders and they all cannot believe how nice of a car it is, especially being electric for the money I paid. Mine was $39,000 US dollars after $7500 EV rebate. I have the premium with all the extra trim features. One reason I want the new version is the heated rear seats along with the ability to adjust the rear seat tilt for better comfort for my riders. The newer safety features and better self drive features and true one pedal, and also really want the vehicle to load feature. I appreciate your reviews quite a lot. They are very straight forward, lean towards the practicality of life and affordability for the average person. I agree that taking or accepting corners used in some materials are greatly balanced by the features and tech the vehicle offers for the money spent. Those are features that will make the difference in every day driving by a large margin. Keep up the fantastic work you do with your reviews and information that helps many make smart, intelligent and meaningful decisions on buying a great vehicle for every dollar(pound) spent.
Just watched review and I also watched the one you did in Korea that’s what made me buy the first Kia Enero 4 Brilliant car had for 30 month’s done just over 15000 miles without a blip no issues like ID3 software has been fine and averaged just over 4 miles per KW. Just sold for nearly what I paid for it only lost £1500 in that time. Hope to pickup my New Kia EV 4 on a couple of weeks informed today landed in UK the other day. Great Car thanks for a great review take a look before looking at Teslas .
Why don't more manufacturers design a froot like that? Makes much more sense than keeping the cables under the boot floor where in reality they won't be accessible until you've taken all the other stuff out!

Would like to consider a car like this, but n Canada the wait time for gasoline cars is 8-12 months, and EVs are approaching 2 year wait. Is that similar in other parts of the world?
I’ve owned both Niro 2 and 3 HEV in the old shape, and due to build shortages (ordered a new Sportage) I’m getting a new Niro 2. And can I add, I’ve used these vehicles as PHV. Love the HEV in both

Being burned by Opel for making false promises, seeing new VW ID.x orders postponed to late 2023 and knowing the whole automotive industry is struggling with supply chain issues...
Not only popular in the UK, but also the best selling car in the Netherlands in 2020 and 2021. More than half of sales have been the BEV. It also has become really popular as a taxi, which always surprised me, because I thought the space in the back wouldn't be good enough for that (I never use taxis myself), but this video showed me how wrong I was about that.
That would depend on the licensing authority leg room regulations, most in UK require 8in. (200mm) minimum between the back of the front seats and the front edge of the rear squab, with front seats fully back.

What I love about Jonny Smith is he gives everything a chance, and is happy to try and find joy in every car, but without the blinkered and plain overly fluffy cloud nonsense of people like A Goy.
I have no bias at all for JS’s reviews, they are simply the best and most detailed on UA-cam.. I do of course carry a lot of bias in favour of the car having one of the first e-Niro off the boat here in France. I ordered mine on 31/12/18....got it on 15/3/19....then the waiting lists began as subsequent orders in 2019 took the rest of that year to arrive with owners. I was underwhelmed by the looks of the car when I bought it but have grown to like its sort of stubborn, bulldog chewing a wasp look. And of course any ‘character’ you assign to a car depends on the memories you make with it. We’ve done some epic trips to Germany, Switzerland, the UK and within France in ours and we like it more each time. I like the front end of the new one, the slight increase in size and the EV6-esque interior. Last week my dealer in Niort phoned me asking if I wanted a test drive...I knew they only had the hybrid, they won’t get the EV until September, so I did a ‘non merci’...Would I swap mine in for the new one JS asks?...the ability to add a tow bar for bikes and a trailer is appealing, as is the slightly increased space and the V2L feature. Our early example has hopeless infotainment, doesn’t even have UVO but we use Apple car play which finds the chargers for us just fine. Not sure the charging speed is 150 kW though JS, other reviews I have seen say it’s 75 Kw, the same as ours but they may have been pre-production models. More important is the charging curve, ours will only sustain 75Kw for a short time on an Ionity charger. Looking forward to having a test drive here....or should I wait for the ‘EV4’...an as yet mythical beast from the land of 800v...so they say.

I really like this redesign over the old one. One little thing that I appreciate is moving the charge port to the center - I just like the symmetry a lot more.
I like that also but some people saying if you have a front bump you break it 🤷♀️
I prefer the older one 50% because of the "frumpy" looks. I love the blend in lack of design flare. 50% because of the lack of touch sensitive buttons. Love it even more now if this new model might lower the old model prices.
New One looks much more futuristic, especially inside. And its even cheaper then the old one. Even the Comfort start model has pretty good extra stuff like heatpump, steering wheel heater and frunk
I absolutely agree with Lee Smith. I own a 2022 e-Niro. I deliberately chose it for all the practical family car reasons AND because it was not flashy-looking. Touch buttons are over-rated and pose safety problems by demanding eyes off-road when driving. I chose heat pump and all the top features including driver's seat electric presets, because my wife and I are in our 70s with incipient mobility issues. I like the internal refinements of the new Niro EV, and in particular would have liked the car-to-device power. But will not be upgrading from e-Niro because it has all the important features, including slightly smaller size that fits our small 100-years-old reinforced concrete garage. This withstood the 1942 Wellington New Zealand earthquake, so there is no way I would rebuild it! The car has enough space around it within the garage for reaching the charger, or (moving forward) to open rear hatch and unload. It's all good, and I am surprised that in NZ other EVs have joined Tesla in outselling the e-Niro. They don't know what they are missing...
In about two years of studying electric vehicles this is how my opinions have swung: first car I really fancied was the e-Niro, then I discovered the original Ioniq 28kW which had great range with all the bells and whistles for a bit less so it was a toss up between them. Just on UA-cam research, couldn't get out to see them... Lockdown.
Recently we had a little car fair locally and I got to sit in a Kona; a Citroën eC4, I think; a Cupra Born; a couple of Volvo and MG5 and MG ZS Ev. I was sooo impressed with the comfort of the ZS I can't tell you. It's got a decent boot, which is our main concern and the top of the range has a panoramic sun roof, with electric cover and dual opening. It has most of the other bells and whistles as you've shown on this except flappy paddles and heated steering wheel. That top of the range is the same price as the bottom of the range Niro ev. Any reason it shouldn't remain my favourite?

Thanks Jonny, fully agree that the Niro is an extremely well judged package, no significant weak points, very high residuals. Also very comfortable and relaxing to drive, has the NVH of a much more expensive conventional vehicle. What's not to like?
Just got one on Friday last and had an enjoyable 650km round trip over the weekend. Lovely drive to the west coast, very refined. Had dinner at 6pm while recharging on 50kwh public charger. Dinner finished, returned to the car with ample charge to get home. Love it.
Took my 2021 Niro 4+ from Berks to Trent Bridge for the test match today.. 240 miles, 80% motorway/ dual carriageway at a genuine GPS logged 70 mph.. Air con on for most of the journey home... Had 9% left in the battery when we got home.. That equates to around 264 miles of range.. Oh, two largish adults on board.... I'm happy with that... Just wondering what to do when it's three years old :)
I'm a big fan of this Niro. Kia have been coming up with some fantastic cars recently. Can see myself owning one in the near future.
Had six Kia models over the course of a few years. They never broke and the service from the dealer (Henry, Ferndown) was excellent. If I had the money I'd have one of these.
6 cars didn't have a lot of time to break if you only had them over a few years.

He has the knack of holding your interest all the way through the video, with no pointless distractions, like throwing parcel shelves to one side, or pushing sticks up false exhausts..... Just a proper, clearly presented review, giving you the information you want and need.... The Niro EV. The eNiro evolved and made a bit better.....
We have an older eNiro. We've done 25k miles in 18 months and not had the slightest issue with the car. On a long journey it's super comfy and easy to drive. On a commute it's lovely. Performance is a lot of fun too.
The new one looks like a good evolution to it.
One comment on Kia design though. It looks like they lose interest when they get to the back end

i always know that i get your honest opinion when watching these reviews, thank you for that! i only have one small complaint after watching a lot of late brake show vids, and that is that the music bits and the talkie bits would be more level. as of now, i feel like i have to turn down the volume when the music comes and up the volume when you start speaking. the content is great and the video quality and editing is constantly improving aswell, which makes me glad. love

Like it a lot! The frump looks of the old Niro have actually grown on me, but this is definitely sharper looking - and so glad they've lifted interior design cues from the EV6. The way the screens are integrated into the dash with that downward swoop that feels visually connected to center console looks like some sort of futuristic cockpit. A better look than the Ioniq 5 IMO.
As a family car I think the Niro is all the car you'll ever need. Have had the plugin for years, suits my needs best of all.
I prefer the old car but then the non EV Niros weren't quite as challenged in the looks dept.

Yes imo Hyundai/Kia/Genesis is the EV leader today in most aspects. New tech, new ideas, quality, warranty, exterior and interior design, and that I-want-this-car thing.
This EV gives the best value overall. Most cars from this brand has really nice exterior and interior.
The Genesis cars is on another level regarding the interior. I could sit inside and do nothing a whole day.
You mean sit inside and fiddle with the controls and knobs all day. I sat in an IONIQ 5 at Goodwood and the buttons have a lovely tactile feel. I could have sat in it all day and pressed them in and out... Is this a fetish?

@21:45 I drive a 2016 Soul EV, bought it used, in excellent condition with low miles but very low range, took it to a Kia dealership and was approved for a new battery under warranty. 0 problems- love design and space. I wish the Americas brought in the newer model, but I have my eyes on longer range offerings that continue to come out. This model Niro tops my intrigued list, cant wait to see more from Kia/Hyundai.
I currently have a the Niro hybrid (self-charging type) a 2020 model, and I think I prefer the interior of mine, I prefer the buttons, easier to find when on the move and you are certain you have pushed it properly. Yes, I have the 10" screen in mine, and it's great for nav, but irritating to manage the media. As for practicality, it is absolutely amazing, and with it being the petrol hybrid, I can get 800km off one tank of fuel. Excellent car, so glad I bought it. As for the "frumpy looks¨, I think I still prefer the old model, the new one looks like a storm trooper in white like that.

Love it! And I would absolutely consider buying one, however my current car is a Kona EV 64kwh, and to be honest I think Hyundai made it too good as I may never sell the thing!
Fab review, you have produced another masterpiece of auto journalism, well done - yes, yes and yes - I have put 20,000 miles on my 21 plate e-niro, what you have just shown is for sure my next car sorted ! - Tow pack and vehicle to load in what is essentially my existing car - fantastic - did you notice that the boot floor can be on two levels ? - that's another plus in my eyes.
I like that that it doesn’t have a giant intruding center display, the size on some cars are getting out of hand
I'm with you on the Soul EV being better car. Love my 2016 Soul EV. This could be my next EV. the EV6 charges faster but doesn't seem more practical and much more expensive.

Kia never ceases to amaze me on how , technologically simple ,they tend to keep their cars for everyday use, I have a 2018 ICE Kia soul, and the ergonomic interior designs, fall easily and intuitively to hand. I will take a ev Kia over a Tesla anyday.......

Wonderful review! If and when the Tesla Supercharger stations open up, that would eliminate the one major reason not to consider the Kia…if road trips are a major factor in one’s decision. I love my Model Y but getting very expensive here in the states and the wait times are one year away! I think Kia is doing a great job for all the reasons stated in this review. Thanks again.
Then other car makers should invest in charging networks as per Tesla. Not rely on Tesla to 'open up'. Why should they? Tesla.owners paid a premium for that USP. Just my 2 cents.
we have an E-Niro. Drove the Niro EV yesterday - ordered one right away. Much nicer inside, smoother and quieter. A great car made better!
Error - Rapid Charge is not 100 or 150 kW . Errr The maximum rapid charge power in Niro EV is 77 kW. The battery can't be charged continuously at this power. In an average rapid charge session the average charge power will be around 64 kW. This charges the battery from 10% to 80% in around 45 minutes.
Not according to the media literature from Kia I have in my hand.
It is 77kw. Which is rather disappointing and a serious issue for many people.
Not sure where the 150kw comes from. I haven’t seen that anywhere else.
Still looks and sounds like a great EV and great value for money. Great review as always by you. I liked the Kia Soul also. Would prefer choice on interior colours
You’ll note that the maximum motor torque has been derated a massive 35% below the previous version and the acceleration time is subsequently slower. They could have softened the takeoff without doing that and as such I think there is a bigger reason behind it, such as trying to reduce the incidence of gearbox problems. I would not be surprised if the next Kona is equally hobbled.

All those reasons you gave is the reason I bought the old model. It continues to be a brilliant EV seven months on. One of these might replace it, but not for a good few years. I just hope Kia can transition to EVs successfully and start making them in decent numbers.
For what it’s worth I bought mine outright to hang on to for at least 5 to 7 years. I do like the new interior, I like they’re moving away from buttons. Definitely an evolution and improvement on what was already a very good car.
a friend of ours bought the e-niro and i was very impressed with it. and something which i suspected would happen is that although its called a crossover it isnt really much taller than a regular car. my venerable v50 is about the right size that i want from a family car and actually this is only 10cm taller and 12cm shorter (a nudge wider). and surprisingly the boot is actually bigger, which the volvo is small in its class for that.
there is a lot to like in a car like this. its overly practical and ticks as many boxes as you want from that point of view. maybe in the future i'll end up with one, but in the mean time it makes zero financial sense for me to change car. we do big cross european road trips so there are a few years of infrastructure building before i'd be comfortable doing that in a pure EV, but at that range it does go a long way.

You need to put a correction re the charging rate, which is max 77kw. It is quite a serious point and major weakness for many people.

2. When you show the rear space in suv reviews please, please, please show it with the rear seats down - I'm on a farm and I often have stuff to put in the back.

I am leasing a 2020 Niro EV (US model) and will absolutely be moving into the 2023 when my lease is up. I think it will be the best value on market when it is released here in the US, even above the recently discounted Chevy Bolt. It just does everything well with no muss or fuss.
Tesla Model Y in the UK , cheapest available is the AWD Long Range , starts at £57,990 . Cheapest Model 3 RWD starts at £48,490 !!!! Kia / Hyundai all day long.

My wife and I ordered the older eNiro back and February but we just found out that we will be getting the new Niro EV now as a mandatory free upgrade and honestly at first we were sad because we loved the old eNiro for its simple/non-flashy looks... but now we are warming to the new Niro EV and this review has really helped!

I leased a 2020 e-Nire as an entry vehicle until a better EV would be available at the lease end.
Surprise, I am greatly satisfied with it. With my driving style and commute I have been averaging between 4.4 to 4.7 miles per kilowatt.
I had a close look at the Kia EV 4 at a recent Kia Electric Experience event. I agree the interior is better than the old e-Niro but also I think its better than the EV6. The Niro EV will be the car to beat when the lease on my current e-Niro runs out next year.
The charging times are a bit off, Jonny. It does a max 76kW charging speed, which is what put me off from wanting one. A 80% top up should not take more than 30 mins, just imagine the chaos on a bank holiday at the 2 typical Gridserve chargers, waiting 45 mins for a 'new tech' Niro EV. It's the biggest let down for me, they could have at least tried to up it to 125.
I'm thinking of getting a Niro. I've had a Ceed for 4 years, and prior to that, a Rio for 6 years. I've had 10 years of worry free motoring and rate Kia as a brand. Great review, I'll take a look.
Johnny where did you get your price information? according to KIA, the Niro EV2 starts at £34,995 that is £5,000 more than you say. All too often, EV's are way too expensive. £7,200 more expensive than the hybrid. and about £14,000 over what it should cost.

Good looking car. A bit more handsome than the original e Niro. Nice looking interior. I’m glad it’s not totally dependant on touch screen controls. The draw of the Tesla charger network is a strong one but you pay quite a premium to access it. With this sort of range, anxiety of range is going to be a very rare occurrence and it looks like public charging is gradually improving, as it must do. A mate of mine has a Kona which shares the same power train as this and it’s a very impressive car to drive. Yeah, I’d buy one of these.
Another good video, well done Johnny, I have the first eniro now done 2500 miles and very pleased with it. One good point is it has room for a full sized spare wheel under the boot floor with the foam removed, not sure the new model has this.
After some town and motorway use over past 2months my last full charge shows 300miles.
Cost wise the 2500 miles had been using 3 fast chargers away from home and the rest with home charger and Octopus Go tarrif 5p/kwh total cost just over £55. That wouldn't fill the tank on my previous Audi A3 and would only give about 300 miles

What a tremendous review, I like the understated looks and love the battery size /weight to range balance, I’m considering buying it, but will look at the Megan too. And in answer to your question, I would buy this car over the Tesla model Y as I wouldn’t be able to live with the Tesla styling. Really enjoyed this vid 👍
I think it rapid charges at 72kw (not 100-150) although the charge curve is higher for longer than the gen1 so around 43 minutes to 80%.
They like to advertise charging times on different power chargers and hope you assume they mean it can charge at that speed. Pretty sure your right it's 72 down from 77 but more likely to hit that speed and across a wider range of SOC.

Actually it's £20,000 cheaper than the Model Y, which just makes this a no-brainer over the Tesla. Also, the Model 3, which is £10,000 more than the Niro EV, is less practical, and so I would absolutely save the money and buy this instead. This has quite a lovely and bold design, which cannot be said for Teslas. Phenomenal car and video!
My 4+ e niro is the best EV ive owned ( ive owned and traded a few evs since 2011) I had the choice ( from Mrs P ) of the E Niro or the Tesla Model 3LR , i went for the Kia , easy to get in and out of , and looks 'normal' and non descript.
One oversight on the 'old' niro was the rear camera blurring after a small puddle is driven over , was fixed by a clever 'cam wipe' which swept over the camera lens with a soft brush on the wiper arm.
Did i spy the rear camera above the rear number plate ?
If so , this will fog up fast on a damp road , just saying kia !

Our MY2023 NIro EV is due for delivery in September. Disappointed that the UK market cars have limited options. Wanted the lighter interior on our Cityscape Green '4' but Kia confirmed this is only available as part of the 'Grey Pack' which is only an option with the white paint.

I have the old Niro PHEV and being a man from the motor trade all my working life, I just love what KIa have done with this car. I don't give a sh-- what it's 0 to sixty performance is. It's a family car, not a hot hatch and for me it handles very well no matter what I throw at it. Also as my daily mileage in no more than 20 miles, a tank of petrol lasts me months, as I make sure I plug it in every day. They say it should give 36 miles of electric power, but in reality thats nearer 32. But thats fine for me.

Quite a BIG error in the video re charging speed. It is maximum 77kw! Which is very slow by modern standards.
A key issue is the relatively dated 400v platform where the newer Kia’s are on 800v.
Thank you for another piece of brilliant video journalism, enjoyable, informative and bang on point - I am just 1 year 3 months and 20,000 miles into my e-niro currently (after two Nissan LEAFs) and it is exactly what you said - so in answer to all you questions its yes,yes, yes and yes from me ! - I will move up/across to this before long - Froot, Vehicle to Load and Tow Pack the major pluses for me. - thanks Andy
The design may be a bit dull, but at the end of the day, you spend more time in the drivers seat than you do looking at it. Surely it's the best value for range EV?
I'd have one over the Model Y every day of the week. The only issue is availability unfortunately.
Our local dealer has no idea when they're going to be available. Mind you it's a 1 year wait for a Corsa or Mokka EV!

I have a 2020 e-Niro. I can't see anything here that would get me to swap for the new version, especially with that warranty. I'll keep the 'old' one a couple of years more, then look at what's on the market, not just cars, but how charging infrastructure has improved.
We currently have an e-Niro on NHS lease. It does everything the average family needs a car to do. It's not flash - it just looks ordinary and that's fine. When the Mrs retires we'll need to hand it back. I think we've just found a replacement.

I agree with everything you have said. Really fine Presentation. To your question which one i do prefer: I would buy an electric car like the new niro ev, because it has everything i want. It loads at home with 11kw (tesla isnt faster), costs 30 grand less and takes just 16-20kwh max. for a distance of 100km. "Beat this, Elon Musk!!!
One reason why the previous version was popular was probably due to the price but I also think it is because it has simple basic features on the screen. That it has physical buttons and is easy to use
I have a 2021 E-niro ‘3’ and have been really impressed with it - especially that it has adaptive cruise etc in that spec. The thing I really enjoy though, is the performance. Compared to its rivals it has way more torque (291 lbs-ft compared to 229 in a Q4 E-tron ‘40’ for example) and I think that’s the secret to the rapid acceleration in sport mode. This new one, though, only has 188 lbs-ft of torque, so presumably it feels noticeably slower? Or am I wrong and it’s the same? Just curious.
Thanks Jonny for a great review. We were set on a Model Y LR but recent price jumps have added £3k to the price (You said £10k difference, it’s actually £20k). We thought we would check out the lower end of the market and test drive the MG ZS EV, it was good but did feel cheap in places with a daft low infotainment screen. Stumbled upon the Niro EV on YT and your review and we’ve since put our holding fee down, looking forward to test driving later this month.
So in answer to your question - Tesla Y or Kia Niro + £20k saving - we took the latter. Maybe upgrade in the future but this is our first EV.
Idk where u live but isn't the MG almost half the price of the thru leasing??
@@senoow4215 Hopefully we’ve locked in the PCP rate we were offered on the Niro EV (it’s gone up since, as has everything else). It worked out roughly £440pm (over 3 years) with a £6k deposit. The MG ZS EV worked out about £350pm to lease or £380 to buy on PCP. Tesla Y was cheaper to lease at £580 when we were looking, their PCP was much higher.
OTR prices were roughly:
MG ZS EV LR Trophy £34.5k
Kia Niro EV ‘3’ £38k (now £39k)
Tesla Y LR £55k (now £58k)

I have a 2020 Niro EV here in the USA and live in NH where we have trying and cold winters and very nice summers 70s/80s with lower humidity mostly. In summer I consistently get 300 miles range or if using AC 285 miles. Winter I use the winter mode for consistent battery conditioning and can get as little as 185 miles if the temperature is 0 to -15 degrees that is. When up around 25 degrees i get about 220 miles and if in the 35-40 degree range i get about 240 miles. Never have range anxiety and do not have but 3 DC fast chargers around me, 1 30 miles away and 2 45 miles away. I normally just charge at my house on a 240 volt charger and receive 10% per hour. I am definitely looking at upgrading to the new design probably in and about 2 years from now. Although I have checked on my ability to sell my car right now and it is receiving premium resale pricing with high demand because of the price of gas so I may look to private sell mine when the new 2023s hit our USA market in the end of 2022. We shall see. I use mine for Uber/Lyft driving and it saves me tremendously on the gas/oil changes and maintenance costs. It has very nice room and space for luggage and groceries in the back from my riders and they all cannot believe how nice of a car it is, especially being electric for the money I paid. Mine was $39,000 US dollars after $7500 EV rebate. I have the premium with all the extra trim features. One reason I want the new version is the heated rear seats along with the ability to adjust the rear seat tilt for better comfort for my riders. The newer safety features and better self drive features and true one pedal, and also really want the vehicle to load feature. I appreciate your reviews quite a lot. They are very straight forward, lean towards the practicality of life and affordability for the average person. I agree that taking or accepting corners used in some materials are greatly balanced by the features and tech the vehicle offers for the money spent. Those are features that will make the difference in every day driving by a large margin. Keep up the fantastic work you do with your reviews and information that helps many make smart, intelligent and meaningful decisions on buying a great vehicle for every dollar(pound) spent.
That is one of the first EVs that I think offers real world value for money/practicality. To replace my wife's C-Max it could be a real contender
Just watched review and I also watched the one you did in Korea that’s what made me buy the first Kia Enero 4 Brilliant car had for 30 month’s done just over 15000 miles without a blip no issues like ID3 software has been fine and averaged just over 4 miles per KW.
Just sold for nearly what I paid for it only lost £1500 in that time.
Hope to pickup my New Kia EV 4 on a couple of weeks informed today landed in UK the other day.

Why don't more manufacturers design a froot like that? Makes much more sense than keeping the cables under the boot floor where in reality they won't be accessible until you've taken all the other stuff out!

Would like to consider a car like this, but n Canada the wait time for gasoline cars is 8-12 months, and EVs are approaching 2 year wait. Is that similar in other parts of the world?
I’ve owned both Niro 2 and 3 HEV in the old shape, and due to build shortages (ordered a new Sportage) I’m getting a new Niro 2. And can I add, I’ve used these vehicles as PHV. Love the HEV in both
great review as always, but one important bit is missing: how many are Kia able to produce and what will the delivery shedule for them be?
Being burned by Opel for making false promises, seeing new VW ID.x orders postponed to late 2023 and knowing the whole automotive industry is struggling with supply chain issues...
Order ours in May 22, delivery in Sept 22.
