Did people know Archnemeses Protos is part of an archetype? Don't get me wrong, nemeses would play him, but then you'd be playing nemeses
don't forget nemeses corridor who's only purpose is as material for the link 1 thunder dragon colossus
The Nemeses cards are perfect for this list. Keystone was played in Adamancipator decks at one point and Corridor was super popular in the OCG to make an easy Colossus.
Almost every one of the 7 Nemeses cards is playable but they just never got a second wave of support that makes them a strategy on their own. It's laughable that this archetype that needs cards in the banish pile to do something has no way to get cards there.

The Kaijus are the ultimate example of this. They are all playable due to occasional type or attribute relevance, but they suck as an actual deck.

They're actually really powerful as an archetype, but they're pretty much just vanilla monsters with really good removal without the field spell or Interrupted Kaiju Slumber.
Like, they barely function as their own archetype without the field spell.
The reason why kaijus don’t work as deck is they have only card to make counters. That and you can only control one of them.
Ok but have you ever actually faced one? A kaiju oriented deck can be well and truly insane, their effects are ridiculous. Gamciel is a multi omni negate, dogaran is a raigeki, Radian prints tokens, thunder king is a hard blanket and a really hard hitting dude, kumongous is an insane floodgate, and jizukiru is a conditional negate and pop.
Genuinely shocked that nobody mentioned True King of All Calamities. Then again, I'd probably want to forget about it, too.

Salamangreat Almiraj sees play in hundreds of decks due to it being one of the best generic Link-1 Monsters in the game...Salamangreat is not one of these decks due to it already having Balelynx, another Link-1 Monster with a way better effect.
The only reason you would want to run Almiraj in Salamangreat is if you opened with Ash/Veiler and Parallel Exceed.

They only have 2 cards that lock you into fusions. Its still insanely easy to make in Predaplants.

Mist Valley Apex Avian always shows up in every winged beast deck that isnt its own, and its always a bad time for the opponent when it does.
It also was a staple in pendulum good stuff pre PePe format, since it was a reusable Omni for them

So, I think a good answer for this would have also been the Psy-Frame monsters. Psy-Frame as an archetype exists, but gamma was a splashable hand trap in a lot of decks, and what usually followed gamma was Omega, an absolute house of a generic level 8 synchro played in even more decks than gamma + driver
Omega is even used in decks that don't Gamma, such as Ritual Dogmatika using it as a way to return their ED monsters to send again later.
@LadyTsunade777 Oh, 112%, it got used in every deck that ran Dogmatika Punishment, or could bin monsters from the extra deck as extenders.
Even better in MR4, where it was one of the only cards that would take itself out of the EMZ, so you could make a second extra deck play without resorting to Link monsters

The saddest part about that is that if your making a dedicated PSY-Frame Deck, the other Psyframes make Gamma WORSE because you won't see it when you need it but you'll see one of the other, much worse and less applicable PSY-Frames instead lol
It happened to Metalfoes twice. First with Metalfoes fusion being a free discard + draw one and next with Electrumite being the best Pen support.
Those cards aren’t bad in the deck though.
There were a lot of cards that were not bad in their decks but better in others

I remember wanting another Selene for my Endymion deck and finding she costed one of my organs. Was pretty confused as she wasn't even amazing in that deck then I saw the Halq combo with her

This is one of my favorite aspect of Yu-gi-oh having no rotation. The ceiling for creativity feels really high. You have 20 years of card releases you can dig through to find the one card that has the perfect synergy in the deck you want to play, the card that will potentially give you an edge. And when you put it in application against an opponent who never even knew this card existed, that feeling is worth it.
Also gives them time to cook up some support for mid archetypes for fun/rogue tier decks... but if the busted support ever gets too generic, it will show up in this video or a sequel.
Let's not forget Independent Nightingale, arguably the main reason why we can't have generic effect-copying

The funny part about Battlin Boxer Veil, the only reason it's limited to 3 is that Konami has REFUSED to nerf the skill Destiny Draw even slightly, even though it was one of the best skills in the game for a long while

Make it require 1500 or less LP to use, maybe even 1000 or less
Konami just doesn't want stall to ever become relevant again, most likely because it's a terrible first time experience to go against. That's why every new, mostly irrelevant, card that could be used for stalling gets limited in some way.

Trishula, dragon of the infernity barrier is perfect for its archetype. You summon it about 2 to 4 times a turn.
Laundry Dragonmaid. No Dragonmaid deck wants the mills she provide but she can be splashed in other mill centric decks with Dragonmaid Tidying.
Shoutout to these adorable and slightly strange mangas of Laundry and Eldlich that (as I'd guess) spawned thanks to this synergy.

Almiraj is also a good one. Used in everything that needs their Normal in the GY, yet completely useless on Salamangreat.

So here's a very very very odd archetypal card that'd not a monster that sees fringe play in United Noble Knight. Sword of Sparkles, an X-saber equip card that cannot be equipped by anything in the deck, but has the function of being able to tribute a monster on field to put itself back on top of the deck. So what you do is you use Isolde, get Medraut and then use Sparkles to clear Isolde so you can use Medraut's effect to continue extending. It is... such a weird tech card but it's hilarious.
How would that work? Isoldes effect to not be able to normal or special the searched monster is for the rest of the turn and not while Isolde is on the field, so clearing her does not allow you to summon the searched Medraut, or am i getting something wrong?
@@Oearli You special Medraut off the Isolde effect, sending 4 equips. But Medraut's effect requires that he be the only monster on the field. A funny combo line is Medraut->Borz->Sacred King->Extender->Link to Isolde->Use Sacred King to bring back Medraut->Use Isolde to summon Black Laund->Use Black Laund to pop Isolde for an equip->Use Sparkles to pop Black Laund->Use Medraut again. It's very VERY Niche tech. But it is funny.

Magicians' Souls and/or Illusion of Chaos both belong to Dark Magician but are used in any Spellcaster deck or decks that want to mulligan away some spell/traps... So basically any Spellcaster deck.
Magicians souls is my favorite metalfoes card :)

Also some builds of monarch, you would summon gofu and the tokens, the tribute summon kuraz over gofu, then pop the tokens to draw 2
Batteryman Solar? I don't think it does a lot for Batteryman, but is the best normal summon in Thunder Dragon.
Vennominaga was what happened when they tried to make a boss monster for the Venom archetype, but the Venom archetype was so awful that people just built decks around her without using any of them.
Except Vennominaga isn't apart of the venom Archetype, it's related yes, but it's jpn Kanji does not contain the characters to count it among the God awful reptile archetype

@@LazurBeemz I think it's because the main reason it was played was as insurance against handtraps, that if it wasn't needed on your turn could make an extra negate on your opponent's turn.
When the handtraps that it was beating (Nib by putting up a negate in few summons before your real plays, Ash by trading 1 for 1 with it without sacrificing a play starter etc) fell out of relevance with decks like tear and kash forcing handtraps like D Shifter (can be shotgunned before the package is live, makes the bounce harder to put online) and Droll (going through the adventure line turns off your ability to search now) the package just didn't do a lot in the meta anymore- better to run targeted hate, like book or the aforementioned handtraps.
@@LazurBeemz it's simply power creep. Decks are already super resilient and consistent by themselves, if you implement the adventure engine you have to dedicate a lot of slots and you lose the effect of your normal, so you either lose consistency or hand traps to get resiliency and higher power. It's currently only used in synchron as a non-tuner engine (cause we don't have anything better lol), but for example if rise heart didn't lock you into XYZ we would play that instead

My favorite spyral card is Magician Souls
battlin boxer veil is on the list because it basically allows you to use most of the life point triggered skills for free.
I almost wish I had twitter, so that when this question comes up, I can talk about Koa'ki Meiru Supplier being whored out to Adamanicipater, but the deck it was SUPPOSED to be made for...can barely summon it. God how did Konami fuck this card up? Oh by giving it great effects, but conditions that make NO SENSE in its archetype even if you only play the rock ones (btw it also railroads the strategy)....thanks Konami...real fucking nice. I hate this card

Horrible archetype, but it makes the dragon matchup extremely tricky for some of the best decks.
I don't know if it counts but Iris Swordsoul is a very playable card in any deck
No one posted Verte Anaconda? It literally locks you out of SSing for the turn if you use it first and if you Fuse first via archetypal cards you're locked out of Linking into him.
I'd say I play pure predaplants fairly regularly, and I'm pretty sure I've used verte one single time ever. I don't even know if it's good in the version that plays branded stuff.

I felt so called out by melffy spright thing, because I actually did put more of them in my deck and called it that.
Scorpio/cobra is a funny example because part of Predaplants to begin with is just “we like making fusions happen”
Surprised Verte Anaconda didn't get mentioned once. Predaplant has cards which lock you into Fusion Monsters, a Link Monster does very little for the archetype. Verte Anaconda is not very good in Predaplant, yet in just about every other deck it was brokenly powerful allowing you to cheat out just about any fusion monster. The fact it's banned in the TCG and OCG, but not in Master Duel remains baffling.
Hot RDA abyss. Most of the resonators are level 2 at least the good ones and you'd play a few resonator chain... but other more meta decks have an easier time making a 9* RDA monster. I actually just wish the non tuner was less generic, shouldve just said Red dragon archfiend like most of the other RDA synchros say.
You'd need the lvl6 (Red Warg) that gets summoned off a lvl3 Resonator.
I use the lvl 8 Hot RDA way more, and it is still has a useful effect. Hot RDA Bane is a good lvl 9. Abyss is comparable how??

Platinum gadget deserves a mention as technically a better Union Carrier for ABC because both can't be used as link material the turned they're summoned but Carrier having a special lock on the equipped monster stops it there and Plat Gadget also has better arrows. Ignoring that in an ideal world you'd make Plat Gadget, I:P, and Carrier and using Carrier to give ABC protection
Wightprincess isnt good trickstar cores are just so small they have trouble finding any other cards to put in there without bloating their decks with spell/traps. They just havent figured out DD crow is legal yet more than anything

They aren't necessarily bad in archetype but only because they're individually strong. SP Little Night annoys me slightly because she doesn't really help S Force any, but she does let them join the coveted ranks of Time Thief archetypes that nobody plays but everyone steals from: Psy Frame Gear Gamma, IP Masquerena, Redoer and now Little Night.
This is just a reoccuring theme in yugioh. They always design dogshit archetypes that are hard-locked into tribal builds except one card, and that one card ends up being so good in everything BUT the archetype it was designed for. The flexibilty is cool but so is having a playable archetype...
The most obvious one i can think of is harpie feather duster
Harpies are weirdly a deck that doesn't need Duster really. They have Hunting Ground and chew through backrow like no one's business
Ah, yes, Catastor and Trishula! Members of their own archetypes that I play in T.G., along with Hi-Speedroid Chanbara and, with the new Synchros coming out soon, Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss! Since they're, you know, the well known "other" T.G. cards! Although, who can forget the fake T.G., known as "T.G. Hyper Librarian"!
Might as well mention hyper librarian she was a staple in synchro spam for a decade.

In the era where verte was splashed into everything, I started wondering if predaplants would actually play it, as I had no idea what predaplant monsters even do. What kind of synergy could it have with the archetype, what kind of plays would you do with its effect. I was really curious about all of that. So I asked a friend who was known for playing plant decks in general. His response?
"Yeah, of course you play it! You can make Dragoon with it!"
What's even funnier is Verte is ass in predaplants since all their play starters fusion lock you.

Sphere mode. People play it at 3 copies without ever running Ra because of how great it is at removing monsters.
While it doesn't make the cut because it's still good in its archetype, Illusion of Chaos always comes to mind because it was searchable of Prep rites and you used it to search Magicians' Souls for a special summon and a draw 2.
The fact that Illusion was at $70 and Souls was $60 due to this is laughable sad as a DM player.
Many generic links definitely count in this field. Electrumite, Verte, Selene, Union Carrier, Jasmine, Genius, Moon, Plat Gadget, Donner, Dagda, Seal, DDL, Ahashima, Elf, Romulus, Anima, Almiraj, Artemis, Simorgh, Azalea,...

Morphtronic Telefon. It May be Played in Morphtronics, but who ever plays These? Instead its an ftk beast, its infinite LP, and allows virtually unbreakable Boards. And im 100% Sure Konami forsaw it.

Afaik Drytron only used Battlelord for the short period of time between Union Carrier being banned and Mu Beta Fafnir arriving, because Union Carrier for Dawn Knight served basically the same purpose Fafnir does now, except a little worse - and without either, Drytron needed *something* to bridge that gap.

how about another DDD card? not quite in spirit with the thread, but i dont think DDD Duo-Dawn King Kali Yuga has ever been used to its full extent in its home archetype. meanwhile raidraptor and utopia (and exosister ig but that uses utopia cards so im counting that as another win for utopia) turboing this guy out on the opponents turn to blank the entire turn
I played my DDDs against a friend playing Raidraptors who pulled this on me and I was almost offended by it. Like "how dare you"
I would argue that this isn't its full potential but breaking card design. Just like Expulsion and Sanctifire.

Magician Souls while its played in Dark Magician decks mainly found its home Spyral decks thanks to Master Plan.
Look, you can pull random cards from a Dragon Link deck, and you'd have a 50% chance any one card is from a different Dragon archetype but finds so much juice there
Ra Sphere Mode/Kaijus
Since Sphere Mode uses your Normal Summon it's more likely played in-archetype, but if you're playing a Kaiju, there's approximately a 99.99999999999999999999999999999999% chance the only Kaiju-specific Spell/Trap you're using is Interrupted Kaiju Slumber.
Hot Red Dragon Archfiend King Calamity.
If you're playing it, it's because you have Crimson Dragon and are cheating it out to stop your opponent from playing the game on their turn. Granted, it's possible to make those in Red Dragon Archfiend decks, but you see it _outside_ of the archetype *WAAAAAAY* more than in.

Lol, I play D/D/D Rebel King Leonidas in an actual D/D/D-deck because it's a scale 3 that's easily accessible. That's easily one of the best cards in the entire archetype. If it wasn't for that card, I probably would never play D/D/D as a Pendulum-deck.

Ghostrick Angel of Mischief and Ghostrick Dullahan in Xyz decks that can A) make Rank 1s and 2] want to make Draco Future.
Black Metal Dragon + REDMD is another example of it for it's played in a viable deck which is Dragon Link compare to the mess that is Red-Eyes archetype.....😧😧😧😧
Because AOJ so hard synchro summon konami give AOJ summoning animation as a reward if manage summoning AOJ. Unfortunately it now have to contest speedroid Chanbara which 2 times better then AOJ.
I think a reasonable honorable mention could go to Denglong. Most of the decks that ran him didn't even want to run any of the other Yang Zing cards other than Nine Pillars for a free negate, and he gave basically any deck access to Crystal Wing through Tzolkin if the deck could afford to run any of the main deck True King monsters or most other Wyrms in general. The majority of decks that can make him certainly don't use Yang Zing cards as materials if they can get around it helping avoid running more garnets than necessary but for a potentially huge payoff nonetheless.
Edge Imp sabers
My favorite is Galaxy-Eyes Dark Matter Dragon which galaxies literally could not play because they didn't have enough (good) dragons unless you ran some felgrand blue-eyes build
You know, I am surprised that Crystron Halqifibrax wasn't even mentioned. The other Crystrons were fine, but Halq was far and away the most ridiculous card to ever be printed.
