I always wanted a Pomeranian as well, but after a while, I just realized that having a super clean home is most important for me, and I do not like fur and fluff. So I went with my other favourite- a Chinese Crested. When I went to see the Crested pup, I accidentally fell in love with a tiny chihuahua pup. I took them both…❤

Here's an easy way to potty train your puppy. I have a Chihuahua and the way I potty trained her when she was a pup, was I bought a two door dog crate that was 24 inches by 18 inches. At the same time, I also bought a solid plastic container that was 24 inches by 18 inches with high sides at Wal-Mart.
So what I did is on one side of that plastic container, using a hack saw I cut out an opening big enough for a Chihuahua to ingress and egress the plastic container easily. As that plastic container then became my new customized doggy litter box.
After I cut out the opening, I then filled the new customized doggy litter box with one inch of pine pellets that I bought at Tractor Supply Company. Pine Pellets are superior to kitty litter to work with because one, it virtually eliminates all odors, two, it is very easy to work with, three, it is good for the environment as it can be used for composting, and four, it is dirt cheap compared to the cost of kitty litter or pee pads. As I bought a 40 pound bag of the stuff at Tractor Supply Company for only $7.50 with tax and that one bag will last most of the year.
Thus, after I cut out an access door on my new customized doggy litter box, I butted the door side of it to the side of the doggy crate with the doggy crate door opened. Then I used the other doggy crate door to put the puppy's bed and toys in the doggy crate.
As the idea of it was the puppy wouldn't soil its bed and its play area inside the doggy crate and instead, it would go eliminate in the customized doggy litter box butted up to the doggy crate instead.
You know what, it worked like a charm. As the puppy would live and play inside the doggy crate and then go eliminate inside the customized doggy litter box I butted up to the doggy crate. As I kept the puppy inside the doggy crate about 75 to 80 percent of the time in the beginning. As I didn't want the puppy to make accidents happen outside of the doggy crate and at the same time, learn bad habits.
After three weeks, I began leaving the second door to the doggy crate open and then I closely monitored the puppy to ensure no puppy mistakes happened. But like a champ she would returned to her doggy crate and eliminate inside the customized doggy litter box 100 percent of them time.
Therefore, after a week of 100 percent success, I relocated the customized doggy litter box to its permanent location and I closed the door in the dog crate the customized doggy litter box had previously been butted up to permanently. As now I have a perfectly potty trained puppy who never makes puppy mistakes inside my home. As using this method, my puppy literally potty trained herself.
As for as the way I handle the management of the customized doggy litter box is any time I see dog poo inside the doggy litter box, I immediately use a litter box scoop to scoop it out and then flush it down the toilet.
Then I clean the doggy litter box out once a week and to do that I bought an Arm and Hammer Sifting Cat Litter Box for like $14.99 at Wal-Mart. However, I don't use it as a litter box but only as a cleaning aid.
So what I do, is I first make sure there is no poo remaining inside the litter box. Then when there is no poo inside the litter box, I lift up the doggy litter box and empty it contents into the Arm and Hammer sifter. Then I put the litter box back in its permanent location.
When pine pellets are used as litter material, when a puppy or a cat, depending on the situation, urinates on it, the pellets disintegrate into saw dust.
Thus, I used the Arm and Hammer sifter to sift out all the saw dust into the Arm and Hammer litter box below. When all that remains in the sifter are pine pellets, I empty the sifter back into the doggy liter box. Then I dispose of the saw dust in the Arm and Hammer litter box in the trash, as it doesn't have an odor. Then I replace the used up pine pellets in the doggy litter box with new fresh pine pellets. Usually about one to two scoops will do it.
As I have found this method of potty management to be the simplest, most odor free, and by far the cheapest method there is. As with the aid of the Arm and Hammer Sifting Litter Box, I probably spend two to three minutes of my time cleaning out my doggy litter box a week. That's hard to beat.
Not to mention that my puppy literally potty trained herself in the span of only one month with absolutely no puppy accidents whatsoever. Who else can say that?
Oh yeah, another big advantage of using a doggy litter box is you don't have too worry about if its raining or snowing or if it's too hot or too cold outside, or even worry about taking your dog out periodically to relieve itself. To me, it's a perfect solution.
And if you live in a high rise apartment, as opposed to a home, it's the only worthwhile solution, as far as I'm concerned.
Oh yeah, if you want to later train your puppy to go outside, you should save some of the sawdust you would normally be discarding in the trash in zip lock bags.
Then before you let your puppy out, go dump the contents of a zip lock bag where you preferably want your puppy to eliminate. Then go back inside and bring the puppy out to the designated spot with a leash. Do this repeatedly over the course of a week and pretty soon your dog will be doing his or her business right on cue where you want them to go like a champ.

My chi was my best friend for nearly 12 years. He died of congestive heart failure a couple weeks ago. I was devastated. Then I found out that 80 % of chias die of this heart disease around age 10 or 11. I tried all the meds to help him but it was too late. He was 8 lbs. So please get your chia checked out if he starts some weird coughing and having a lot of trouble breathing. You shd have health insurance for him bc it can be treated. if I had known about this disease I would have been prepared for it, but no one told me till it was too late. I am very lost without him. Keep yours safe.

I'm torn between my next chihuahua being a rescue since there's sooo many that needs home, and in getting one genetically tested for heart defects so the chances of congestive heart failure are lower. I also plan to give them fish oil and CoQ10 right away instead of waiting.

As an adult he only weighed 6 lbs. Last year lost my Chi/JRT mix. Now been looking for another teacup Chihuahua, so I can take him or her with me when I travel.

What a wonderful video! I’ve watched it twice and keep backing up to re-watch the parts that feature Chico! What a cutie!
We lost our little Shih Tzu Kilo recently and I’ve been researching dog breeds. I’m leaning towards Chihuahua as my Kilo was 5lbs and was a perfect wing man in my daily routine.
Your video really sealed the deal! I think what’s truly fascinating is your observation on Yappiness. That’s really been my only concern with the breed. Your probably spot on about it being a learned behavior from their parents. That said, I will absolutely find a reputable breeder locally so I can check out the parents behavior in person. I never would have thought of that!
I’ll be hard pressed to find a lil guy as cute and charming as Chico. He’s really set the barre high! Of course I know it’s more about that “special connection” than looks alone- cuteness doesn’t hurt though!

Take your puppy pads close to door that you see when they go take pee, and then go fast outside with them, works pretty well 😊 and take some word outside when they do the thing, say "peepee" or "poopoo" or some like that just when they take action, and praise like "good pee/poo" when finish.. When dog grow, they can pee if you say, when you go dogtor or other places when is good pee before 😊

When Chico wee on carpet soak some onto a puppy pad then clean carpet then put smelly pad under a clean one: that was how my 8 month rescue Tigger was potty trained and since I’m in power chair I can’t always get her outside in time. I keep her pad in bathroom as the bathroom is moderately large and out of the way.
If someone gets a barky dog try filling a water squirt bottle and give a blast when they bark, just avoid head (bad, even dangerous, for ears and eyes) I stopped Tigger’s barking at every passerby (we live in senior apartment complex) many folks going by either have a dog or think it’s funny to talk to Tigger and rile her up.

Does Chico get tired easily when he's out for walk? And does he prefer to not go out when it's cold outside? These are my questions which I would like to hear your advice. He definitely prefers to not go out when it’s cold. If it’s really cold, I won’t take him but normally he’s fine as long as he has his coat on ☺️

Just a thing that isn’t good Pls don’t remove his water bowl
They need to have fresh water at al times
    Walk him before bed time
I let mine out at night and some times there still are accidents But I don’t think taking away water is a good thing
It can give him health problems later on
Love this breed and soon your will learn one is not enough 😍

Also not feeding them for so many hours is not a good idea either. Free feeding is best with wawas, they’re notoriously at risk of going on a hypoglycaemic state. Have some glucose gel ready just in case and leave some kibbles at all times trust me x

As a Mexican why do so many people name chihuahuas Chico 💀😭
But also I’ve seen so many families with young children that live in apartments get chihuahuas. But they are absolutely NOT a good choice for people with small kids. They don’t tolerate mishandling, because you can physically harm them or if they are uncomfortable they’ll make that known.

does she just spray the wee with stain remover? You need to remove the urine first as well as you can.

I am being extremely respectful when say this to you… get yourself a picture of a Tibetan mastiff in attack mode and tack it to your mirror. Then say this is my dog! I have a Chihuahua and I have had him in Obedience classes and even start him on sort of track and field for small dogs. You can do a lot with these little guys. I suggest a back yard too! They can be high energy dogs. This takes a lot of commitment. They are not a dog to take to doggy parks. My little guy is extremely happy since I wrapped my brain around who they really are. I believe chihuahuas are the most misunderstood breed in the world. I believe chihuahuas to be more intelligent than even golden retrievers or b border collies. Their brains need to be occupied. Socializing socialization( twice said is key to a happy Chihuahua. Do not let them bond is heavily to you alone that it spoils the bonds they can form with other members of the family. After owning my own Chihuahua for years I have concluded that they are the best dogs in the world with the right people. Seldom is it with some one who doesn’t respect them. They are a dog. More so than any other breed and want to be dogs. House training is a challenge only because their whole world is getting along in a very large world. My Chihuahua has to get along with a cat my grandchildren( though they are in their early adulthood) go to work with me! And interact with people when they come to my quilt studio. My dog goes outside to the bathroom and at night I have a large cat litter box with pee pads if he needs it. When he goes outside he is never alone and I mean never!(Because of his small size). With good diet and vet care these little guys can live a long time so patiently training them pays big dividends in a very long relationship. Chihuahuas listen to human conversation very intently and being positive when you refer to them gives them confidence. My close, extended family has dogs and cats and on occasion I baby sit them. This is a great opportunity to train my Chihuahua. I say train but really you educate. I never allow my little to be teased or disrespected in my home. The best to you and your little guy and it’s fun to watch your vids on the two of you from excited I’m getting a puppy to let me drag out the cleaners once again! Love your girl!

I don't know why you'd want a Pomeranian. All that hair! Imagine keeping them cool in the summer. It's much easier to keep a Chihuahua warm. Out of curiosity : does he shed?

"if it's snowing it's probably better to not walk them"... I don't think it will work if someone live in flat 😅but I understand you, quick walk if needed in a clothes and home. And about rats- rats are super clever too, I like to take this like a compliment for them

You have a pup chihuahua, and he wees on the mat, and you don't know why. 1. He is a baby, and babies have accidents. 2. He is a dog, and all males mark their territory. That is how they do that! It's not like he did it on purpose!
