Chilly today here on the north Norfolk coast where I live but loving sitting in a warm room watching you after the cod, glad to see you wearing a buoyancy aid, stay safe and thanks for the video.
Emma Kok - Thank you very much. It all takes a bit of practice but if you are careful you can often remove the hook quickly and without harming the fish at all. 😊👍🏻🎣
Thanks John & Tom, some great info on baiting and set ups. I like the idea of just holding the rods and feeling for the bites. Best idea when the seas are really rough! Take care, all the best Graham 🎣🐟🎣🎣🐟

Brilliant Vid,,,, I gave up rock fishing about 5yrs ago but watching this has given me the bug again. Keep up the vids John, best thing on youtube.

Another cracking vid John! Keep em coming can't wait for my next visit to the coast and get some dangling done, can't come soon enough! 👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣
Good video John! Some lovely Codling there! It would have been great if you had filmed the daylight recce too as we would have had a view of the topography where you were fishing. Can’t beat a proper rough ground session mate. Originally from Boro. Grew up fishing that coastline. After 15 years in the army, for last 6 years lived just north of the tyne, similar ground. Rod in hand and proper fishing. Keep up the good work
Rock hopping. One of the best ways to fish here in Aus. We get about ten people a year washed off or fall but it doesn't seem to put us off. Good video as usual. Cod's a good feed. Ah memories of cod and chips from the Pilgrim's Hatch chippy. And now I think of it, catching a tiny cod from Yarmouth pier on a wet windy day at age seven. Keep on mate, you're champion and much appreciated by the Poms.Kindest regards to you and family.

dave oldman - Thanks Dave, aye we don’t get a proper run of them down the SW either. But there’s been a real good season of them this year in the NE. 👍🏻🎣
Absolutely awesome as always John. As I am just getting back into beach fishing after 25 years absent, there were some really good tips. I will be looking out for one of the baiting tools. However I do use a bait needle which helps but this looks ace for bigger baits. Many thanks again :)
Ian Bullock - It is our pleasure Ian. I am glad you are finding the videos helpful. The baiting tools I have always considered them a little unnecessary. But seeing how easy Tom built those big baits for cod has made me change my mind. I’m not afraid to say when I’m wrong. 😉🎣

🦀Awesome video John. 🦞How fun night fishing is. 🦐We do it in boats and sink some lights in the water under the surface to attract bait fish and then the big ones come for a feeding. 🦑What a treat doing a nighttime video. 🐙Thanks for sharing your adventure with us. 🦈Those fish look healthy too. 👍💎
- Thank you very much. This was a real challenge to film as the conditions were wild so I am glad it worked out ok. I am planning on doing some overnight sessions on the boat this summer ;)
Hi John - just found your channel. Loving the variety, information you pass on and sense of fun. Learnt a lot. Good to hear your explanation of when you take a fish for the table and when you don’t as well 👍. Looking forward to more films and inspired to prep my gear and head to the sea with the kids as soon as the weather perks up a bit. Thanks and all the best for 2020. Ben
- Thank you Ben and welcome to our channel. I am glad that you are enjoying the videos and I hope you and the kids have a great time. Yes, probably better to wait until its warmer and not howling with wind and rain. :P Any questions about any of the videos, just leave me a comment or message me on the fish locker fb page. :D
Excellent video as always John. Nice to see you both sharing this information although it is not even close to the ground I fish but still very nice to see and to learn few things.
CastaNet Fishing & Kayak Adventures - Thats what it’s all about mate. Sharing what you know so it can help others. If we all shared what we know, we would all know a lot more. 😉🎣
The Fish Locker nothing but to agree! I think angling has such a potential to create so many friendship and good time together because you want to to share your deeds, it makes it always more joyable.

@@mikeuk466 i use one when i go cod fishing in the winter up here in the north east ... they are a time saver, take alittle to get used to but defo worth the buy .. good luck
- Sometimes it is easier and less harmful for the fish, it depends where the hook is stuck. It makes sense doesn't it considering which way the hooks is shaped ;)
- No he was looking for the bait bucket but ended up putting it under his knee so it didn't blow away ;) Those tools really are a game changer, I always used to turn my nose up at them but Im not afraid to say when I was wrong. :)
@@TheFishLocker aye just teasing 😂 I noticed he chucked the rig down there too so thought bucket must be there, cant see a rig been thrown away. Proofs in the pudding I guess. Loving the videos
Hi John... I'm posting while watching so don't know if you say where you fished.... but when you told me about an area on a previous video. .. I forgot to mention I've heard that's meant to be a good mark for cod. Great video, as always. ... thanks for sharing
We never fished at night from the rocks but about 8 of us would get a local inshore man to take us out in the winter. The deal was a couple of pounds each for the boat and the owner of the boat took the catch, except pick of the catch ( two or three of the biggest) per angler. We would gather mussels as bait or sometimes feather for mackeral bait. We would go out early on the morning and return on the afternoon high tide. Brilliant memories.
Wish we had them in the South East mate, might have to do a bit of travelling myself!! Very informative as usual, I remember learning about cart a few years ago on UA-cam, never heard of it before then, looks like a good fish catcher!!
Shore Fishing Essex - Without exaggeration mate and I have seen this happen. If there are 5 guys fishing in 1 gully and only 1 is using cart. He will be the one who catches. It’s weird though because it doesn’t seem to work as well in other areas. And only on rough ground. 😉👍🏻🎣🦀
Another great video John. I would have guessed by the Cart bait you were in that neck of the woods even if it wasn't in the description. Never seen it used over here though.
The Eastbourne Fisherman - Thanks very much mate. Glad you enjoyed it, was a real challenge to film in those conditions. Loads of footage was unusable. 🤷🏻♂️🎣😊
Beautiful mate.. only last 2-3 days here in Dub is nice .. cold but nice.. hope i can go do some fishing this weekend.. If you think visiting our smaller island let us know we will think of some 2-4 days fishing camping trip to atlantic 👍
Another great video, Not just the fishing but the sound of the sea. I've bought the baiting spoons and it was great to see how you use them. Hopefully the tips on this video will help me find fish on my March fishing expedition around Eastbourne. Thanks for posting.
Hi buddy that was like home from home fishing for me all be it a bit further up the coast Arbroath area nice baitting tool handy trying to wrap it all well with minus degree frozen hands can be tuff an that's the exact rod I use on our coast as well but with the surfblaster reel always have better hook up rates on the patanosta style rigs up here not many guys use the pulleys funnily enough tho if we do see guys using pulleys up herethey tend to be from the north east of England or even further afield anyway I'm blathering on a bit here haha cheers for the video
steve shiva - Thats interesting to hear Steve. Funny isn’t it how folks from the same area have “their ways” the baiting tool really was a great bit of kit. I always used to turn my nose up at them but I’m not afraid to admit when I was wrong. 😛🎣
Great video John but have you noticed we don't call them codling anymore! How times have changed, those size baits are pretty standard on the mersey your dab baits would get a proper Mckie bollocking!!! 😅😂😉🎣👍
Quality as always .. Your sesh turned out better than mine the day ... A reel as part of a Boat rod /reel combo i bought before christmas . Line somehow got snag inside the reel . Presently untangling the line Arghhhhh . Mr .Rowe mentioned about the larger bait given off a better scent . What's both your thoughts on Bottled scent i see being used by US/Canuck Sea Anglers which they spray on there baits in there video's
colintraveller - There are a lot of bait additives on the market that some folks claim a lot of success with. My feelings are it can’t hurt can it? I’m not sure how much is just the anglers confidence or the additive. But like I’ve said. It can’t hurt. 😊👍🏻
Peter Taylor - I have to be honest. I have always thought they were a little unnecessary but seeing Tom smash these big baits out so easy has made me consider getting one. 😉🎣
i live in the middle of nowhere in the US, where the best fish is catfish and if you're lucky some trout. i would love to have a proper experience like this someday. i love getting a look into this life, thank you and please keep it up!

the kid - It’s been a good 6 - 7 years since I fished like this so it was a real pleasure to get back at it. 😊👍🏻🎣
Good vid,i remember the cold nights and ive ,still got my old beach caster, but you ain't tempted me back-i like my boat to much now. Tight lines lads.
- I like my shore fishing but LOVE my boat fishing. :D Tight lines mate. ;)
Great informative vid again mate.
- Thanks Steven, it is our pleasure. It was a really challenging video to film due to the conditions so Im glad you enjoyed it. :)
Love the vids mate
sam may - Thanks Sam. Tight lines 😊👍🏻🎣
Bet it was great visiting the old stomping ground, the cod stocks getting back to what they used to be. Had some big cod off Runswick bay in the past.
Timmy Gasman - Yes there’s some nice fish about. The seals are giving the inshore stocks a bit of a pasting though.
These beach fishing vids are brilliant
great stuff John...🤘
Joe Scardino - Thank you Joe. 😊🎣
Great video mate keep it up
gary tweedy - Thanks Gary. This was a real challenge and lots of the footage was unusable but I hope it gives folks an idea of what it’s like. 😉👍🏻🐟
The Fish Locker yeah it does I’m from
The north east I fish a lot around the north east some nice coddling you had
gary tweedy - Aye mate it was a cracking little session. Effort = Reward.
Great video there mate really enjoyed it some nice card pizza blank safety first tight Lines
- Haha. Im not quite sure what you are trying to say there mate. But tight lines. ;)
@@TheFishLocker sorry John it is my phone I have dyslexia I use the voice talk on it tell it wot you won't to say and it sea it for you but it is not to good sum time sum nice cod you got the
hardcore fisherman - Haha. I have the same problem with the subtitles on some of the videos. 😆
@@TheFishLocker I don't know why it didn't recognise my voice sometimes having dyslexia is hard work especially when making UA-cam videos but I really enjoy anywhere Tight Lines John
Them baiting tools are spot on I'll be purchasing one when I visit dawlish! Cheers mate
- They are really handy for this type of fishing. You can find them online Mike.
@@TheFishLocker yes deffo! they look it, cheers budi iv found one!
@@mikeuk466 i use one when i go cod fishing in the winter up here in the north east ... they are a time saver, take alittle to get used to but defo worth the buy .. good luck
I actually made my own out of a piece of plastic, an ice cream lid ,just cut that shape out works a treat.
I had no idea you could go through the gills to pull a hook out. Fascinating!
- Sometimes it is easier and less harmful for the fish, it depends where the hook is stuck. It makes sense doesn't it considering which way the hooks is shaped ;)
I have never fished, I enjoy your videos a lot.
I remember some of the few cod I caught down here years ago, they had whole spider crabs in them certainly gulp the big baits down
Trojs Fishing - Old bucket mouths aren’t they. Proper pigs some of them. 😊👍🏻🎣
Did I see him go to chuck the clingfilm behind the rock at 21:13 😉😂 good looking bait tho will be looking at buying one of those bait tools 👍
Great video, as always. ... thanks for sharing
chrisandvicky - Yes it is a good mark. And no I don’t say in the video. 😉
@@TheFishLocker ... errmm... I've edited my post mate 😎
chrisandvicky - 😉
cheers john u did enjoy ur trip home take care on ur way back
robert mansfield - It was ok mate. Cold but nice. 😊🎣
Cracking video that John thank you very informative
- My pleasure mate. 😊
Colmea - It sounds like a great setup. Proper old school. 😊🎣🐟
some beautiful fish there too fella...
- Thanks ;)
Always grate films top man
Neil Rutherford - Thank you Neil. Tight lines mate. 😊🎣🐟
Thanks for the video 👍👍👍
Romas fisherman - It is my pleasure Romas. 👍🏻🎣
Nice session John, makes sense to increase bait size at night,
Tight lines
Udo Van Den Brock - The water was full of colour so the I think the fact it’s dark doesn’t have too much relevance. More bait more scent.
Decent numbers of cod around this year👍
Alex Steele - Yes there was mate. Some real good catches amongst them as well. 😊🎣🐟
Another great video John. I would have guessed by the Cart bait you were in that neck of the woods even if it wasn't in the description. Never seen it used over here though.
- Its a brilliant bait on the right ground. Will outfish pretty much anything.
Fantastic as ever mate :)
Niunkin - Thank you very much mate. We may come over at some point this summer. When it’s warmer. 😉🎣
Another great video, Not just the fishing but the sound of the sea. I've bought the baiting spoons and it was great to see how you use them. Hopefully the tips on this video will help me find fish on my March fishing expedition around Eastbourne. Thanks for posting.
David B. - It is my pleasure David, I am glad the video turned out ok and I hope people find it useful. 😊👍🏻🎣
- Haha. Its funny how generous he is when he's not paying for the baits :P
@@TheFishLocker 😂😅 very true mate! 😉🎣👍
Well done lads, been thinking on a bait mate for a while now think I'll indulge in one
- Haha. The grass isn't always greener. I would absolutely love to try my hand at a big catfish. Funny old world isn't it. Best wishes Glenna and have a great day. :)
Are you from the Midwest?
