I live on El Hierro, and we are collecting all sorts of things to send to La Palma, because many people left in a hurry and had to leave so much behind. These are only small islands, but make a great team. When any one is in trouble, the others help. We hope it will soon be over, but can´t predict when, and rebuilding will take a very long time.
It's so sad. But the island is now taking over and when the center collapse the entire island will be covered in pyroclastic clouds, acid rain and rivers of lava. The 🌋 is a warning sign to all leave now. There is no time to wait.

Let´s just hope that if it does happen, there will be time to evacuate people further away. Lava has its own way of being destructive, but at least moves slowly so you have a chance to escape. What happened to Pompeii involved a lot of pyroclastic flow, which moves much faster. With the speed and temperature, Pompeii was doomed.
This eruption is more similar to the Kilauea eruptions than it is to pyroclastic eruptions like Pompeii. Shield volcanoes often emit large amounts of flowing lava, but they rarely have catastrophic explosions. Let's hope there is no massive explosion.

@@abcdef2069 I suspected as much , which means this eruption could go on for weeks if not months. I'm amazed at how much lava it's pumped out in such a small amount of time.
