  • Volcanic activity on the Spanish island of La Palma has been intensifying again, prompting authorities to step up evacuations. And with ash clouds rising up to four kilometers high, flights have been canceled for the first time since the volcano began erupting last weekend. With hundreds of homes already destroyed, the Spanish government is promising help for those affected.

    There is a lot of solidarity in the Canary Islands. I live on El Hierro, and we are collecting all sorts of things to send to La Palma, because many people left in a hurry and had to leave so much behind. These are only small islands, but make a great team. When any one is in trouble, the others help. We hope it will soon be over, but can´t predict when, and rebuilding will take a very long time.

      It's so sad. But the island is now taking over and when the center collapse the entire island will be covered in pyroclastic clouds, acid rain and rivers of lava. The 🌋 is a warning sign to all leave now. There is no time to wait.

    The sequence of events taking place in this eruption remind me of the ancient eruption of Mount Vesuvius. If the top of the volcano really explodes, I wonder if the force of destruction will be similar to that of Pompeii?

    • @elisabird6245
      @elisabird6245 3 роки тому +5

      Let´s just hope that if it does happen, there will be time to evacuate people further away. Lava has its own way of being destructive, but at least moves slowly so you have a chance to escape. What happened to Pompeii involved a lot of pyroclastic flow, which moves much faster. With the speed and temperature, Pompeii was doomed.

    • @frankmartin8471
      @frankmartin8471 3 роки тому +2

      This eruption is more similar to the Kilauea eruptions than it is to pyroclastic eruptions like Pompeii. Shield volcanoes often emit large amounts of flowing lava, but they rarely have catastrophic explosions. Let's hope there is no massive explosion.

    I’m on La Palma now near the airport. I live here. What happen with the bananas. Was . a month ago there was a Calima. Which is a very hot air coming from Sahara. This was before even a word was spoken about a volcano. So all the bananas and plants got damaged between El remo and La Bombilla. I would ride my bicycle every day from Puerto Naos to El Remo. I had a chance three days ago to go down and get my stuff. Police escort etc. I heard the explosion even on the other side of the island. Tomorrow morning I’m going to El Paso. And tazacorte. To get the things that I thought would be safe. But I want to get out of here now. They called this island Isla Bonita. It was for a reason. I know many people who lost their houses. And also so many locals were so nice. I made some videos you can check them. I do not get paid for these videos. I do not monetize videos. And I don’t care if you look at them or not. Wish me Good luck tomorrow...

    People throughout the centuries have lived on slopes of volcanoes because of the fertile land. And despite all the warnings, people still do.
    They all full well knew the risks. And then it happens and they cry.
    Tragic, but is it really such a surprise?
    The most ignorant of all are the Italians. Half a million people living on the slopes of a sleeping volcano that is due any time. Yes, Vesuvius. And they just keep building.
    When that volcano goes, La Palma will seem like a sneeze.
    All that said, it remains tragic for the people involved and I hope no one got/gets hurt.

    The LaPlama eruption along with the the Alaskan volcanic activity of the Great Sitkin, Pavlov, and the Semisopochnoi and an unusually quiet sun, is a harbinger of more colder, not warmer weather, as climate change apologists are wont to ascribe. The decrease in solar activity causes an increase in galactic cosmic rays, which, coupled with an increase in volcanic activity, will result in an increase in cloud cover which contributes to an overall net cooling, rather than a net warming of the earth. This cooling could impact ocean currents, causing them to slow, which would have a deleterious effect on climate. The Gulf Stream is slowing, which in turn negatively impacts the AMOC, which also impacts the thermohaline conveyor circulation, that directly impacts how cold or warm the northern latitudes get.
    This slowing could negatively impact another current, the North Atlantic Drift. If that current slows, or stops, Katie bar the door, because that current all by itself can initiate the dawn of a new ice age. Looking at the current climate phenomenon, I wouldn't sell my coat just yet.

As long as they do not stand in the way of the evacuations and don't bring anyone in danger they shouldn't be screamed at just for wanting to experience this phenomenon. Nobody screamed at the tourists visiting the eruption of the Icelandic volcano last summer. I feel sorry for the people living there though, my prayers are with them!
