When that's happening, watch closely and see which plug in is trying to scan when it crashes. Once you see that, you can go check and see if that particular plugin has an update available. Problem: I just update to Cat. on my mac mini and pro tools tragically stop working right after.. It's been about 3days and I can't it to open for nothing, should I delete all the Pro Tools files and re-download it or try to go back to Mojave?? Help please..
Which version of Pro Tools are you on? I would first try trashing all the prefs & restarting your computer using this free app: petegates.com/pg-pt-prefs.html
God bless your soul

My session gets stuck loading in the snare and doesn’t go any further. I get the rainbow wheel of death. Other sessions open just fine. I can even open up a back up file just fine, but it’s been heavily revised since then, and I need the current one to work for a deadline. When I try to hold shift while opening up the session It takes me to a page asking to rescan my plugins, I click it, and the. protools immediately crashes. Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated because I really need to finish this song ASAP!! Thank you in advance for you time.
Sorry to hear that man! For really stubborn Pro Tools issues, I always resort to this free app to trash all the preferences, then reboot the computer. Give that a shot! petegates.com/pg-pt-prefs.html
@@SeawellStudios hey man this REALLY saved my tail. Thank you so much for helping me out. I figured out it was trigger that was crashing the entire session and every session I have that plug-in enabled on. Thanks again man. Subbed to the channel.
@@Aguitfilms awesome man, so glad to hear it worked out for you! I really appreciate the sub!
I can't even open prtools any thoughts
When it's totally broken like that. I'll do the following;
Trash Prefs and re-boot with this free program(Mac): petegates.com/pgptprefs.html
Re-Install Pro Tools and/or see if there is a Pro Tools Update
See if there is an iLok License Manager Update
See if there is a Mac/Windows OS Update
Go through your plugins and see if there are updates available.
Good luck! Let me know if I can help!
Can u tell me why @ not work when im trying to write my email
Like a dummy I upgraded my Mac OS to Monterey and completely screwed myself. Protools will not boot up. Any suggestions?
Ah man, it happens! I've done that before and even though it takes quite a bit of work, you can downgrade your Mac OS. Here is a link describing how to do that, good luck! mackeeper.com/blog/downgrade-macos-monterey-to-big-sur/
how do i fix this i cant create any projects "Could not create a new document because The system cannot find the file specified. (2) c:\Users\*****\Documents\Pro Tools\Project Cache\Ldgf-kdLdn4SE-wswKB64a\dy4tYnBkjH-SClVFQ1tU8a.ptproject."
Hi, Do you have a solution of this kind but for Pro Tools | First??? I cannot open my existing projects despite it letting me click 'open'. When I click 'open' the screen goes blank. Please can you help? Would happily purchase some merch in return!
Hi Jonny. I'll do my best to help! Let me know what computer/operating system you're running when you get a chance.
@@SeawellStudios thank you!
I’m on a MacBook MacOS Catalina version 10.15.7
Probs worth mentioning I’ve tried to sign out / sign in / change my playback engine / try opening offline etc and all with no luck
@@JonnyMuir Ok, thanks for the further info! It looks like the latest version of Pro Tools First 2020.9 only officially supports Catalina 10.15.6 at this point. I would try this first and see if it helps: petegates.com/pg-pt-prefs.html
Trashing all prefs with that app and then restarting your computer can really help with unusual issues like that. If that doesn't fix it, I would see if you could boot your Mac in recovery mode by restarting and holding command the command and r keys right after you hear the start up sound. In recovery mode, you hopefully can re-install your OS to an older version than 10.15.7 so you can be fully compatible with Pro Tools First. Definitely do a time machine back up first though! It can be a pain to downgrade your OS but I've had to do it before to get Pro Tools up and running. Best of luck, let me know how it goes!
@@SeawellStudios thank you for your speedy reply! Just before I trash the preferences using the link, are you confident it wouldn’t delete any of my projects on my PTF dashboard that I have not yet bounced out & saved on my Mac? Thanks again- nice to know there is help out there!
Hey seawell I have a problem where I try opening protoolsand takes extremely long to load and majority of times it crashes
Hey Ben, anytime I run into an issue like that I'll use this free program to trash all the preferences: petegates.com/pg-pt-prefs.html. After that, restart you computer and relaunch Pro Tools and hopefully that will help clear up that issue for you!
@@SeawellStudios thank you so much this helpedalot also is there a method for pc
@@notar7192 You're very welcome! You can definitely do the same on Windows, sweetwater has instructions on how to do that here: www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/articles/how-do-i-trash-my-pro-tools-preferences/
Hey im on windows and if i try to launch it doesnt open what could i do?
I would try trashing the preferences and restarting your computer by following the steps here: @t. If that doesn't clear it up, make sure your windows version and the version of Pro Tools you're using are compatible and you may even want to reinstall Pro Tools.
Just bought a scarlett 2i2 and tried installing/uninstalling protools first multiple times and it keeps crashing when opening any project even brand new blank ones.
Right after crashing when I try to reopen a project that wouldn't even load the 1st time it says to find a latest version but I literally just downloaded it 4 times
Sorry to hear that! What operating system are you on?
@@SeawellStudios I have an HP envy with windows 10 and a 16GB Ram
@@ma-tv3207 can you check to see if your windows 10 is on build 1909?
@@SeawellStudios 19041
@@ma-tv3207 from what I understand Pro Tools First will only work with build 1909. Is there anyway for you to downgrade to that version?
What should i do if it crashes before pro tools even open
Does it start scanning the plug ins folder or where is it crashing exactly?
Why am I suddenly getting a can't create bounce files because "Macintosh HD" is not an audio playback volume?
I haven't run into that particular issue but hopefully one of the solutions here will fix it: www.soundonsound.com/techniques/resolving-hard-drive-problems
I am having with my protools 12 crashed ! Now wouldn’t open . Showing me this message ..>>
“ an error occurred while reading the document”
I haven't run into that particular error but if you're on a Mac, gives this free preference trasher a try: petegates.com/pg-pt-prefs.html?fbclid=IwAR0-2XPowwcb2tlA4ML7Je5Zflc8vC2KzJ0i-ADuB4-H-QDR65pcG7uNoHQ . I'd run that and then reboot. If you're still having the issue, I've read about some others that fixed it with a clean OS install. I hope one of those works for you!
🐐
"wont open" to me means the app doesn't open..your app is actually opening then crashing. What to do when the app does nothing when you try to open it?
If Pro Tools doesn't do anything when you click on it, try trashing the prefs with this free app(Mac only): petegates.com/pg-pt-prefs.html . If you're on Windows you can follow the steps here: www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/articles/how-do-i-trash-my-pro-tools-preferences/
After trashing the prefs, restart your computer and in a lot of situations that will resolve any issues you're having. If not, I'd make sure your operating system OS and your Pro Tools version are compatible. If so, maybe a fresh install of both would be helpful too. I hope one of those sorts it out for you!
Mine crashes 1 minute after I click the protools app … what could be the problem I have a Mac
Is it happening while it’s scanning the plugins folder? If so, try and see which plug-in is causing it and delete that one until you can get PT to launch successfullly.
Another option would be to trash and delete prefs, then reboot your Mac using this free program: petegates.com/pg-pt-prefs.html
How to get pro tools session to open if the session icon is gone
Try Command + O keys together if the session open dialogue window has disappeared.
Bro, you sound EXACTLY like Sean Divine.
I just looked him up, he's got a great channel going so hopefully I'm in good company :) Thanks for checking out the video!
Mines won’t even get past the loading screen
When that's happening, watch closely and see which plug in is trying to scan when it crashes. Once you see that, you can go check and see if that particular plugin has an update available. I'd also make sure you're on the latest version of iLok license manager. If you update the plug in(if there's an update available) and it still crashes, worse case just delete that plug in entirely and do a full reinstall of it. If it happens to be a plugin you don't really use, you can just delete it altogether.
