- My Espresso machine filter cleaning technique. It has worked on the same filter for the last 5 years with no issues. Just be careful because open flames and hot metal can be dangerous. Give the video a like please.
You are my life saver! I had a clogged poetafilter of a 8 year old Electrolux and tried everything for months to clear it (even asked my friend to bring me a special cleaner from Switzerland). So I ordered a new filter. But after a few months the filter was clogged again - luckily I found your video, and this time I left the filter on the stove for several minutes and repeated this for several times. After that I tried it and finally the POETAFILTER WAS CLEAN! And I could finally have espresso again! The best Xmas present ever!
Thank you so much
This totally works! I had one completely stopped up. Heating it on the stove opened it up. I think it works better to have a little water in the filter when you heat it. The water boils and turns into a light colored coffee. 🙂 Thanks for the video!
My friend, thank you for thinking outside the box. This technique should be on the home page of all Espresso Machine FAQs!
Oh man! You have no idea how much you’ve helped me. I was losing my mind over how to fix this - especially when I couldn’t really explain google on what the problem was. Amazing thank you
You have made me and everyone else who has to live with me much happier! Thank you.
Someone give this guy a trophy 🏆! This worked perfectly for me. Had just to do 2 times.
OMG!!! this really worked. thank you so much!!!!😍. i tried every other methods from other youtubers but none worked, i was going to throw away my basket and i just tried your method....Jesus Christ!! it worked....thank you!!!
This is what makes UA-cam so good.. people like you taking the time to share great tips. Thank you, worked a treat!
Jesus, this worked for me. I almost tossed out my 20 year old machine because I had no pressure . Thank you !!!
That’s brilliant, don’t have a gas hob so put my SMEG filter upside down under the grill in my small electric oven. It worked, also thank you for reminding us how very hot the filter will get.
This is the most beneficial video I’ve watched in 2018. I actually did this on my electric stove. Thanks so much.
wow!!! it worked!!!! thank you for this video! i was on the verge of buying new filters!
I'm so impressed I subscribed to your page!
YOU ARE MY MASTER! I was close to buying new filters. Even CAFIZA didn't help. But I found your video. It worked! Thanks a lot ! After burnout i gave it 30min Cafiza bath as it has very good cleaning properties. I'd suggest it for better results. And maybe repeat the cycle (burn -> cafiza) if there is still some clog.
I have an electric stove, but it worked anyways! Thanks mate.
Also, I noticed that the first cup tastes more bitter than usual (because of the remaining ashes), but you can always put milk into it, or water it to the plants.
I've been scrolling through to see if someone didn't have a gas stove 🤣👍🏻
Thank you man!!! this is the best and simplest video with real results out there. Thank you
It worked great. I can put it up to the light and see all the holes are open, at the start it was less than 10%. Thanks.
This video brought “back to life” my coffee machine and saved me from buying a new one. Thank you!!!!
This worked perfectly for me. Thank you for sharing this solution!
Genius genius... you saved my life this morning!
OMG! I thought my machine was broken! For the last week, espresso did not come out adn seemed backed up...until I tired this and it worked liek a miracle! Espresso flowed like molten lava again! Thx !!!
You are so welcome!
I just used you method. It work flawlessly and I manage to perfectly clean the filter in less then 2 minutes. Thank you !
Thanks for the video sir, i stopped working with my coffee machine over 6 month ago and didn’t know how to clean it, you are a master , cheers
It took a few shots but it worked for me too.
Thanks for the tip man!
This method worked like a dream. Thanks!!!
TYTYTY:) I ripped my machine apart thinking it was the pump! The Pump would flow initally, but then struggle and hum because it could not push through the cup. The Pump was working! OMG then my husband found this, and TYTY sweet expresso once again!
Worked like a charm..... I've tried soaking the basket in vinegar.... I've tried to poke the little holes with a pin....Nothing worked until I tried your method..... Thanks
Thanks for the video, this method worked great. One other thing that I would suggest is to use Aeropress filters (about 1c each) to line the bottom (you can wet them before insertion so they fit better). The pucks also pop out easier after you're done. (We typically use paper filters for pre-ground Illy decaf; the regular version seems less prone to clog.)
I also gotta say that when I first clicked on the link, I was really skeptical, but coincidentally we have exactly the same Breville machine that you demoed and I was surprised how much stuff came out of our filter after heat treatment.
OH WOW! It worked like magic! Thanks for helping me save those extra bucks!
Oh my god I’ve definitely come to the right video! Mine has been doing that for a few days now and it’ll break my heart if it’s broken. I’m trying this right now!
Did it work?
@@BurnoutsAndRotorblades IT DID!!! I’m so happy
Thanks man, that was awesome, it worked perfectly after 5 tries.
Great to hear!
I don’t usually comment but wow you are a life saver!
LIFESAVER!!!!!!!!!!! I´m finally having a coffee thanks to you. I swear I tried everything including 40 minutes in an ultrasonic cleaner and nothing works . It is 4 in the morning here and I have been trying to unclog that thing for hours with no results until I watched your video and magic was done. Man seriously THANKS!!!!!!!!
Glad it helped!
I was getting frustrated with my machine. Thank you it worked for me !
I came across a wonderful accidental consequence of this trying this method out on my electric stove today. I cycled back and forth heating and rinsing when I decided to add small amounts of water into the basket while heating on the stove. The pressure of the steam generated enough force to lift the screen away from the basket that I was able to completely separate it for an easy clean. Thanks for the video
I have had this happen a few times as well. I am not able to duplicate it consistently so I have not made a video explaining this as a process, even though it is probably the most effective way to clean the basket. I'm happy it worked out for you. Enjoy a cup of joe for me.
Thank you thank you! I thought I needed to buy a new machine. Maybe my pump was dying. But I tried this and can make espresso again!
Worked like a charm (on my electric stove). Thank you so much!
Pls tell me how you did it on the electric stove? Just placed it directly on the glass top?
@@desedamona Yep! Worked like a charm.
G. Rost thanks! Excited to try if it will solve my problem
Absolute genius - worked a charm. Mahoosive thanks from Bonnie Scotland :)
Amazing!!! You are a God to all Italians and espresso lover all over the world. Much respect!!!
You are amazing that you found how to unclog the filter this way!
I can't believe there are thumbs down. This worked perfectly the first time I tried. Just follow the instructions. I don't need to buy a new filter basket now.
I think they're from people who can't follow directions.
thanks for the video and those who commented. I got a new grinder which grinded my beans wayyyyyyy too fine for my filter and clogged it up. I also don't have a gas flame and used an electric glass stove based on the comments to heat up the filter. Reheated it a couple of times, but water runs through it again!!!! brilliant!
Thank you for sharing!!
@@BurnoutsAndRotorblades I'm the one who's thankful! 😂. Made a flat white this morning from the cleaned filter and it tastes better than it did before!
Kruti Patel a flat white! You wouldn’t happen to be a kiwi would you?
@@BurnoutsAndRotorblades sometimes I wish 😂. Canadian born and raised, now living in Germany. Over the years flat whites have become more and more popular thankfully🙏🏽. Who needs all that foam 🙄 I just want the right amount of properly prepared milk 😅
Great tip! The filter of my moka pot got clogged and this fixed it, thanks
you saved me man big thanks I did try though various methods and yours failed once then in the second shot it worked Cheers
IT WORKED!!!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!
Unbelievable magic! Thanks for sharing
Our pleasure!
Thank you very much for sharing. My machine is working again. 👍🏼
Thank you!
Thanks for this video. I am having exactly the same Gastroback Espressomachine and from time to time I'am facing the same problem. I tryed vinigar and with needle in the holes but it don't work. By heating up ,even over a candle, it will free the filter. Good job, thank you very much.
Genius!
My dude, thank you so much
Happy to help
The man is a genius!!
Omg my coffee tastes so good now! And so creamy!
I love you bro no homo. as a coffee person I wanna tell you that you saved my life 😅
Bhai bhai bhai, thanks!
You are the best. it works fine to Saeco xsmall metal difusser (clogged). thanks a lot
Excellent 👍
thank you so much. its worked for me
ok good sangat membantu
You. Are. Awesome.
Thanks so much it worked after a few tries
Works like a charm! Thank you!
awesome clever dude
Thank you, I will try this later. You rock
Brilliant 😀❤
I'm having this exact problem, gonna try this now.
Hahahaah, it took 40 seconds on the flame, I stabbed it with a toothbrush a few times and every hole is clear.
I've been fighting with this thing for 2 hrs, soaking in lemon juice does nothing.
Although my wifes teeth turned brown.
life saving!
After unsuccessful trying with Apple cider vinegar and repeated brushing with tooth brush, your technique worked flawless less.
I've been doing this for years.
ya Beauty! Thanks mate, made my day.
You just saved me 30 dollars!
Happy I could help!!
Seems easier than trying to find a needle smaller than the micro holes in the filter.
Never poke trough the holes!
Worked! Thanks!
Hey it worked! Thank you!
Yes! Used the BBQ to heat it up. Many thanks!
Clever!
Does the basket get charred or blackened?
It does darken a bit. you are basically hardening the metal.
🙏
Thank you!!
This is my only remaining resort and I hope it would work. How many minutes did you leave it on the stove? Also how do we know if the basket is clean, for example for mine (dual wall double cup basket, if I just run extract mode with water only, there is still a lot of water left in the basket vs with the dual wall single cup basket)?
Its all about flow. I had to repeat this several times. As for the heat, When it started smoking and changing color I'd go to the sink.
@@BurnoutsAndRotorblades Happy to report that this works for me too. Thank you very much!! I could smell and see the smoke first, then saw tiny dots bubbled up when I put more water in (not a whole lot though). If this is like a cooking pan, I guess at some point there will be a residual layer that would be hard to burn unless scrapped off manually (which is not possible for this bucket). When that happens probably the only way is to throw the bucket away. Just curious if you have had to come down to that?
Ive been trying desperately to watch this video I've tried watching in different locations and on mobile devices and it just buffers please sort it out I want to know how to clean my filter with fire I'm desperate for a coffee fix
I an seeing lot of positive comments i have tried on induction putting over the plate. Tried burning several time but no results as such still water splashes all over the place when do the brewing.
Any suggestions
I've had to repeat several times, but I also know there could be a time when it's too far gone. I had a new one standing by when I tried this so I wasn't afraid to ruin this one. But it worked surprisingly well. Maybe the advice is to be a bit more aggressive. It's technically ruined anyway, why not really puut the heat to it.
I tried exactly what you showed, and it worked like a charm. Then I got greedy, thinking that there may have been more coffee grounds to turn into ashes. So I repeated the steps again ... and now it's clogged!!! What might have happened?
I'm not sure. It is a good idea to run the coffee machine with the basket installed and with no grounds as a step in the cleaning process. This will use normal machine pressure to press out any leftover pieces. This process is something I've had to repeat for best results.
It is possible you are grinding the grounds too fine and it is filling the basket with fine particles. Try grinding the grounds a touch larger if you are having frequent clogs.
Experimental method below, USE CAUTION
If you have the type of filter basket that is pressed together, like the video thumbnail shows, you can use a modified version of this process to force the two sections apart. When I did it, I filled the filter with water and held it over the flame until it started to boil. The heat applied to the outer section of the filter basked expanded it enough that the inner portion was forced up by the boiling action of the water between and I could easily remove it and clean more thoroughly. It didn't take much to press the two pieces back together, even when cold. This method I haven't tested thoroughly to make sure of repeatable results, so use extreme caution if you decide to attempt it.
will the metal ever warp and not fit? I'm just wondering if these baskets are made to go to that temperature
I don't think they were specifically made to stand up to this. However, I have done this about a dozen times to my current filter basket and it still works as new.
It does not seem to have fixed the problem in the final scene.
What espresso machine you have in the video? Breville?
Krenare Ba yes it’s a beville
How long to keep the filter over the heat and how many sessions? Even with this method my filter is not getting clean
I did it until it started to change color and repeated a few times at most. It might just be the end of the road for yours.
I think so as well. Thank you
what is the filter have some plastics?
do not do this with plastic filters.
What if it’s completely seized to it
Hammer, crow bar, jaws of life. Not sure what I would do. . .
Unfortunately I think my filter is clogged with calcium, hard water where I am
bummer. maybe soak it in CLR or something. Also, I'd recommend installing a reverse osmosis system to use for coffee machine water. That really helps us out.
